Hi First things first. I'm João, and I'm from Portugal. I own a G3258 at 4.5GHz with Windows 7 x64 combined with an oldie GTX650 Ti 1GB OC and 8GB RAM DDR3 1333MHz. So, I wanted to try Windows 10 in my build, since people say it's better than 7, but I cannot install it! I searched the net, people say to put everything stock, meaning no OC, I've already done it. Then, diactivating one core, and already did it, same result. Can't install. I saw something about the CPU microcode and Windows 10, but didn't really understand. Should I be reallyt trying to install Windows 10? Is it really worth it? If I can't OC my CPU is sh*t.

Me and a friend want to build a cheap (£450ish) dedicated minecraft server for up to 30ish people (currently 10-15) with room for lots of mods. We'd prefer new, and an ssd for loading times. since minecraft only uses 2 cores and cares most about single core performance i immediatley thought about oc'ing the g3258 to over 4.5ghz, will that be enough? i was thinking 16gb ddr3, and upgrade to 32 if needed. for the ssd, will 256gb be enough for os, minecraft? also- os, will windows or linux be better (linux is free so id prefer but idk)? if not i could buy a used 4770 and mobo for the same price as a g3258, mobo and cooler, would that be better. also what cooler, a h100 or the like or a hyper 212 evo?

Looking for a motherboard to overclock my G3258 for my mATX build on a budget price (pref ~50$-70$). I'm aiming to get it 4.0ghz+. Whats my best options? thanks in advance

Hey guys. My gaming setup just recently died out of nowhere. It might've been due to overclocking because sometimes I would use the motherboard's (ASUS Z97-A USB 3.1) EZ overclocking thing and it would oc the cpu's (G3258) BLCK to 102MHz but I'm not too sure. I would turn on the pc and the cpu_led would flash once then the DRAM_LED would flash but stay on for a longer time. I then refitted the cpu but I noticed that a few of whatever's under there looked burnt out (see picture). I then turned on the pc and now I only get a solid red CPU_LED and nothing else. I tried a different PSU (max 450W (old PSU max 480W)) but same results. along with that mobo and cpu, I have a gigabyte gtx 660 and 10gb of RAM (2x4gb + 2x1gb). I have a few other motherboards laying around and I saw the same, if not similar, components on them. I could take pics so you guys can tell me if replacing them would fix it. Also ill be able to test if my cpu is still functional Sunday because my friend will let me use his mobo to test it. He has an h87- something but i know he has a g3258 as as well.

I ordered a Gigabyte 1050 Ti for Christmas, and when I plugged it in, I found that my computer would intermittently black screen, anytime I tried to multitask gaming and browsing, or watching a stream and a video side-by-side. I get an error that the display driver has crashed and recovered, which of course disappears almost instantly. I returned the card, but I'm experiencing the SAME issues with my new card. I've updated my drivers to latest, cleared the CMOS, tried older drivers, added a new file to regedit, updated all drivers available with MSI LiveUpdate, I don't know what else there is to do. Hey everyone, I decided to finally have the guts to OC. (I stole some guts I found at the hospital) I decided to follow this guide http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/intel_pentium_g3258_oc_guide/3.htm and linus's guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBfXruwe8w4 Specs: G3258, 212 Evo, Asus H97 ME Main issue: However I do have a problem, I do not have an adaptive mode for cpu core voltage. If you look at the LTT video I posted at 7:57 he changes the cpu core voltage to adaptive so it can later dial it down. But I don't seem to have that feature even though I am literally using the same exact asus UEFI. And I'm pretty sure I updated my UEFI in the summer so it's fairly new where as linus's video is much older and he already had it so that shouldn't be the issue. I can tell you when I set the frequency to 47, the computer didn't boot and instead I got the blue screen saying it crashed. I assume I need more voltage but given that everyone says that 1.300 is already a fair amount and any more is pushing it, then I'll keep it there. Also if you have any questions or suggestions on anything, I'll gladly answer because I'm VERY new to this. Third minor issue: PS, I forgot I had this, http://imgur.com/gallery/stNbB I ran aida64 for quite a while just stressing CPU (not FPU) and temperatures were oddly low compared to one in the overclocksclub guide. They were using a noctua NH D14 a very high end cooler where as I only have a 212 evo, it seems like something is wrong if that's the case. Also sorry if this thread is all over the place

Hello, I have been watching LTT for a good few years now and am new to the forum. I am currently using my 22" Samsung Tv as my monitor which has a resolution of 1360x768 My computer has a dual core Pentium g3258 and a GTX 750ti. I have a budget of £125 which converts to 160$. I am deciding whether to upgrade my monitor or buy a new cpu which is also on the LGA1150 socket (I have been looking at i5 4460 and i5 4690k) any guidance and help would be greatly appreciated Thanks you

Hi I'm tweaking an overclock on my HTPC which is using a Pentium G3258 and I can't for the life of me get lm-sensors to see Vcore. Every other sensor I can find just acts as a front end to lm-sensors. It's reading temperature just fine... Is there something special you have to do after installing and setting up lm-sensors (sudo sensors-detect) that I'm missing, or is it a Pentium thing perhaps?

So right now i'm using a g3258 on a 4.6 ghz overclock on my asrock b85 fatality killer paired with a gtx 680. upon inspection the 680 has been bottlenecked by my cpu in overwatch and a couple other games. i plan to upgrade to a quad core but not sure which one should i get, a 4460 or the 4690k here's some information for you to work with -i'm not very rich -i just want to not bottleneck my gpu -i do play on a 144hz monitor -i have a noctua nh-d14 cooling my cpu

I recently built my first computer ever! Thanks to all internet sources for the help. Anyways it was a cheap budget g3258 Pentium build I got because I wanted to practice overclocking since I had never done that either. Build went smooth everything running fine, I start to overclock windows wouldn't boot 4.5, 4.4, or 4.3 ghz speed so I settled for 4.2 ghz and ran voltage to 1.293 during a 10 hour test of aida64 determining that was the lowest stable voltage. Also I have a 212 hyper evo for cpu coolant, my temperatures were fine all below 60 c. However, I go into overwatch and start to play it (which was taking about 85-95% cpu usage.) Then got promptly BSOD, I tried everything thinking it was a driver, lowering settings gpu is a 650 gtx evga, checking temps, reverting driver, and so on. Come to find out resetting my bios to default was the problem, even though I also tried uping my voltage to 1.294. Anyways was just wondering where to go from here, it runs overwatch fine with stock default settings but I still want to overclock, should I go back to 4.2 and just gradually increase the volts and watch the temps. Also I thought overclocking, temps would be the limiting factor, not windows failing to boot, and whats the consensus on going above 1.3 volts, is it just bad because its excess temp and diminishing returns on speed?

Okay so I've been around the block with overclocking and PC building ect. But today I ran into a problem. I have been recently running into major pc slowdowns and games running excessively slow. Even though I overclocked my G3258 (Or so I thought) I downloaded CPU-Z, and I found out that during a stress test, it is clocked at 3.2ghz. This really pissed me off, so I decided to go into my bios and the CPU Ratio is tweaked at 4.8ghz. Now this is the part that really got me stumped. I looked at the top bios and it says my g3258 is running at 3.2ghz. But when I checked in windows, it was at 4.8ghz. I am so confused its not even funny. Here are some screenshots at what I'm dealing with. Now how is windows detecting the overclock, when my motherboard doesn't nor the CPU information programs? Hi everyone, I have a Asrock B85 Fatal1ty killer motherboard and a G3258 CPU. When I first put my rig together I was able to use the OC Tweaker utility in the bios to easily overclock the CPU by just inputting the frequency I wanted (this probably isn't the best way to do this but I'm a complete noob). I updated to Windows 10 and was no longer able to overclock, I read somewhere that the bios wouldn't allow overclocking with Windows 10 so I have reinstalled Windows 7 and flashed to the oldest version of the bios I could find and I still don't have the ability to enter the frequency I want and I have watched many tutorials on overclocking and I'm unable to overclock still. I was hoping one of you may have encountered this issue and have some advice on what needs to be done to be able to overclock. Thanks in advance.

Alright this is my first build...this will be for gaming (still saving for video card) But I am going to be spending 300-400 on this build,so I want to be sure. I have looked over all the parts and to me they all look compatible but I want to run it past the experts (you guys)just to be sure since I haven't done this before. Any recommendations on components will be considered but I just want to be sure that this will work when assembled (I'm also aware there is no os, I already own a windows 10 .iso so that's covered) Thanks

Hi all, I just over locked my pentium g3258 to 4.0GHZ and at 100% load am getting about 85 degrees Celsius. Is this safe?

I have a g3258 running on an ASrock Z97 anniversary board and I'm trying to overclock. With the optimized settings I get 4.4GHz at 1.42V, which is an insanely high voltage for this frequency, especially in comparison to the video on this topic. So i tried a manual overclock to the same frequency and it ran with pretty good stability (although i lowered the voltage to 1.32V). However, when I try to get up to 4.7GHz (as in the video) at 1.365V, i blue screen every time. I get the same result at both 1.32V and 1.42V (also tried at lower frequencies). Could this be related to the fact that I went with a relatively cheap motherboard or am I doing something wrong with setting up the overclock?

Hi everyone! So.. I need to upgrade my PC. Year ago I bought a G3258 and it's amazing! But I need to upgrade my GPU from GTX560 to something better, I want to play games such as The Witcher 3 or Rise of he Tomb Raider. I want to play games like in next 2 years max. I do not want to have everything on Ultra details, however I wanna run it that 2 years. And I'm little bit worried it, because I don't want "bottleneck" it, so Im asking you.. What video cards are good to go, with G3258?

Hello, I have been attempting to overclock the Intel Pentium G3258 with the G1 Sniper M5, but I have not been successful. While using the BIOS for my board, I set the ratio for the clock above the default of 32, and then hit the "on" button for that setting, where the default is off. It displays in the BIOS (after I hit apply) that the clock is 3.7 GHz or whatever I set it to. However, upon exit and restart, the setting turns back off and it is back to the default ratio of 32. Even after switching tabs in the BIOS, the setting switches. I have tried saving to a profile, but that does not work either. Any idea why this could be happening? The BIOS version is up to date. On my Pentium G3258, I have it comfortably hitting 5Ghz on an Asrock H81M-DG4 with Non-Z OC enabled, running at 1.45 volts. However, I recently bought an MSI Z87 G41 PC Mate motherboard to see just how far it can be pushed, but I've run into a 4.6 Ghz wall. Nothing I do will let the G3258 get past that stable. Part of the problem is the MSI OC settings in the BIOS being incredibly unintuitive compared to the Asrock, but a bigger problem is that it looks like the voltage settings in the BIOS are not getting applied in Windows. Using HWmonitor, the CPU voltage never changes regardless of what it's set to in the BIOS. Temps at 5Ghz full load are 69-70C using a CM Hyper 212 EVO with two fans, and nothing else on the mobo is above 40C in either HWmonitor or using an infrared thermometer. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

i just dont know whats goin on with my rig i tried change settings on ai tweaker tab but the changes are not applied properly(i mean oc not working at all) Tried to reflash the bios to the latest and even the old ones but the oc is not working (whatever the settings i apply it just boots normally only with stock settings) But this happened after replaced the mobo under warranty before that oc worked just fine with out any issues i had even reinstalled the os but there is no changes at all Do any one have any ideas to fix em?

Will a GTX 1050 Ti have any bottleneck with G3258 @ 4.01GHz? Should I upgrade my CPU to i3 4170?

So I'm building my first gaming rig, right now I'm picking out the parts. By Christmas I hope to have it built and I just decided to pick out my parts now so I can just plan ahead. What I'm planning to build is a budget gaming pc, therefore I had to pick a cheaper processer. Therin lies my problem. I'm stuck between 2 cpus, an amd athalon 860k, or a intel pentium g3258. I've done my research and I already know that the intel has better preformance per core giving it an edge over the athalon chip. After seeing some benchmarks, the 2 chips are very compareable to each other in preformance (the amd giving an extra 5 fps in some games).however the pentium is unlocked and has "great overclocking potential", so I decided to look into the pentium chip knowing that I could have a good upgrade path since the socket is the same as some high end i5 processers. But I've read in many articles that do to some bios updates and processer updates that the pentium line is not overclockable anymore, however all the sources saying this referenced the g4400 and the g5000 not the g3258. If the g3258 isn't able to oc I think I'll go with the 860k instead, can anybody tell me for sure that the g3258 chip is still overclockable?

I would like to know if anybody has been able to overclock on the CPU side with this MOBO and CPU. This is my own private build and I want to overclock because this processor was built to OC it seems from what I hear online. Hey guys. my brother was looking to buy a cheap gaming pc and asked me for help. I therefore looked up cheap CPU's and found the athlon x4 860k, pentium g3258, and the pentium g4400. i thought the g3258 was better from what i had seen from benchmarks because of its overclocking potential. my brother also wanted a small pc so i looked up itx motherboards, but i wasn't sure if its possible to overclock on the h81m-itx or the h97 itx motherboards. can you? if somebody knows please share it with me. thanks -Syde

Yay! It's another one of these threads! Anyway. My cousin is having issues with his computer that he build two summers ago. It has an Intel Pentium G3258, an ASRock H97 ITX motherboard, Coolmax 600 watt PSU, Windows 10 running on a Kingston 120GB SSD and a Coolermaster Seidon 120M Water Cooler. When he powers it up is doesn't display anything. It's running on Intel HD Graphics. They have made sure the monitor is working. Any suggestions? Thanks!
