Hello all, I currently own a EVGA G2 850w PSU, at the time it was one of the better price/quality gold rated PSU's out there. I've owned this one since 2015, I'm planning to buy a cablemod Pro set for my new build However I've seen complaints about newer models, the G5's give off a harsh coil whine. So the questions that I have is: Is there a chance that I run into problems with the G2 paired up with the 3080? Are the issues in the EVGA lineup being adressed/can we expect a better fleshed out "G6?" psu-line from them? I just don't want to buy a cablemod set for this PSU, to then having to throw it away due to no EVGA replacement options being available.

This is the power supply I have: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1012719-REG/evga_120_g2_1300_xr_supernova_1300_g2_power.html/specs I'm trying to find a case with a shroud, some rgb, and temper glass paneling that can house this power supply but I'm confused about how the measuring system works. So my PSU dimensions are: 85mm x 150mm x 200mm and most cases just state can fit 160mm power supply well thats if they state anything at all. New to PC building any helpful pointers or tips to help me pick a case making my first build memorable and painless would be highly appreciated. Also for any suggestions I'd like to keep my price range around $150 to $200 and extra points for cheaper lol

Hi all, I started buying parts for my first PC build last december, with the PSU and some ram being one of the first parts. It wasn't until January/February that I actually built my system, and it has been running great ever since. The PSU was a EVGA G2 750W SuperNova. However last thursday I was casually watching some YouTube videos when one of the circuit breakers in my house suddenly flipped. Since I had in the same room as my PC also the TV, DVD player, Fiber modem etc. (on a different wall socket and power board) I tried to turn things back on one at a time to see what caused it, or if it was just a power surge or something. When I turned power back onto the PC (not even hitting the power button, but just having PSU plugged in and switch to ON) - the breaker flipped again. I removed the PSU from the PC and plugged only the PSU into a wall socket in the garage, and used a circuit bridge that came with the PSU (completes the circuit making the PSU think the power button of PC has been pushed), and again it immediately flipped the breaker. I also had an old circuit tester and measuring in Ω across the PSU power plug Ω shows 0 (as if circuit completed). So to me, it looks as if I just got an unlucky unit and its short ciruiting for whatever reason. Since it is still within 1 year of buying I am returning the unit to the reseller that I bought it from, I haven't made any contact with EVGA on this yet. But I am worried if the reseller should ship me a new PSU, and I plug it in only to find the system is no longer working due to MB, or GPU or anything else being damaged. Do you think this is likely or possible? I'm curious to know what could have caused this? Is it possible a power surge somehow damaged the PSU? It is on a power board with (supposedly) surge protection, and the PSU itself lists a bunch of protections on the specs page of EVGA website (including OVP, UVP, OCP, OPP and SCP) In my experience (which admittedly is more mechanical in nature than electrical), if something is going to fail due to faulty unit, it will usually fail in the first few hours, not 8 months down the track, but heh, I don't know much about electronics. I should note that the unit wasn't dusty (ok there is always a little) but the case I have has some good filters (Phanteks Evolv ATX TG) and it hasn't really had time to accumulate a lot of dust. Humidity and temperature should be well within reason - since its winter here we had heatpump on a fair bit which takes any humidity out of the air. Funny thing is I ran my old pc with some no-brand chinese PSU for years and years without a problem, and the highly rated EVGA unit didn't last a year

Hey Forum! I haven't been active much in the past very long time, but maybe I should get back into that. Anyways, I have a spectacular situation going on with my phone. Before you go and try your best at Google-Fu, this seems very unrelated to the popular issue with the Moto G 2nd Generation, where the battery circuitry decides to let the battery discharge far below safe voltages for no good reason. So, my phone is a Moto G2 Second Generation, with the model number XT1072. It's been a good device (but slow), until now. When I plug my phone into any USB power source, it triggers some sort of protection. I believe it's gotta be short circuit protection, because I doubt that my phone would try to draw 2.4 amps with its broken charging circuitry. This is especially apparent with a Trust powered USB hub from a few years ago, which turns off its power LED when I plug the phone in, while if I plug in a 'healthy' device, it works fine. Now I'm lucky that I don't need to use the phone as I've got a Nexus 5 to replace it with. However, I did use the Adoptable Storage mode, with plenty of stuff on my SD card on there, meaning that I'm unable to access the data on any other device. Pair this with the fact that I don't have enough battery power to get everything copied across and no way of charging the device, and you have my interesting situation. So, should I try to disassemble the phone and externally charge the battery, somehow giving it the right voltage on the input and being careful not to blow it up? Should I try to remove the battery from the phone and find myself a 4v power source, then hope that I could wire it in and that it would be happy without additional stats that the battery would report? Should I try something else? Thanks, Tedster I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, this seems the most appropriate.

I know and even the rep I talked to at evga said he could not say he advises it but from what he gave me the pinout on both the BQ and G2 are the same for the cpu. So it should work? Or am I missing something?

My HP Probook 450 G2 recently had a screen failure and I opted to re-purpose it as a computer for watching youtube on connected to my TV. I first wanted to reinstall windows but have been unable to get to the boot menu through either VGA or HDMI. However, windows will show up on the second display without issue. I've torn down the laptop completely, so it's just half the shell and the motherboard, with the main display disconnected, but it still thinks the display is there and I believe the boot menu and/or bios are appearing there instead of my secondary screen. Is there any known way to make the laptop realize that the primary screen is indeed disconnected? In the device manager I see a "Digital flat panel (1024x768 60hz)" along with the generic pnp monitor that is the second display, so windows sees it to but is smart enough to recognize both (on first boot it was mirroring, and I have since set it to display only on the second monitor).

What would be a good Comparable power supply to the EVGA G2 or G1+ at 550-650w? I hear great things about the EVGAs but I wanted to do some research to find comparable PSUs so I can get the best deal during Black Friday sales. Thanks ahead of time

Hi everybody! Yesterday I've attempted to replace the battery on my rusty LG G2 (which I love a lot). After the installation, I've given the phone some time to gain some charge, but straight from the first connect to the wall, the LED began blinking red (never seen that before). Holding down the power button for 6-7 seconds (longer than usual boot), just shows blue screen, which can only be turned off by unplugging the phone. I've done some research online, and it appears to be a somewhat common issue, but the solutions vary drastically, so I need help. Here's what I've tried: 1. Holding down the power button + both volume down and up (separately), in attempts to soft reset/hard reset the phone. 2. Disassembling the phone again to see if all the connectors were connected to the logic board, including the battery connection. 3. Reconnecting the battery connector 4. Letting the phone rest and "charge" for a long time to see if the issue would go away by itself. From what I've read, at least one of these would usually solve the issue, but it didn't. What I think is happening: 1. I don't think the battery is damaged or bad (just a hunch. bough from a reputable seller; brand new, wasn't damamged, and was an original LG battery, looking identical to the original that I've pulled out from the phone). 2. I don't think the logic board or any of the connectors got damaged during the fixing process. I was extremely careful with everything and because the phone posts (shows LG screen), I'm assuming at least the screen works. My last guess is from something that I've read, but I don't have the knowledge to know if it's true. Some people pointed out that when they had the same issue, the solution was to "jump start" the battery. They said that the original charger wasn't able to provide the voltage to a completely empty battery (i.e. the current was under-volted for the battery), and they needed a battery bank to get the battery going. Can anybody testify to this claim, so I could at least had some hope that this issue could be fixed? I' will welcome all solutions if someone has experience with LG G's models. Thank you!

Keeping in the theme of every companies putting LEDs (specifically RGB) on their products, EVGA has announced two new PSUs in the forms of the G2L series. As the name suggests, this is basically the existing G2 series, but with LEDs. They come with an impressive 10 year warranty, 80+ Gold rating, 100% Japanese capacitors and everything else you'd expect from the popular G2 series. The G2 and G2L series are based off units made by SuperFlower, which I believe are the SuperFlower Leadex Gold units. If you haven't seen SuperFlower's Leadex units already, here's an image of one. Needless to say, they are very good looking. The only real issue I have with SuperFlower's leadex series is the coloured connectors on the component end. If they were black, the aesthetic of the PSU would be perfect. It's about time we had a PSU that we don't want to hide behind a PSU shroud, so the G2L series is very welcome for me. Hopefully they decide to release the LED version of the P2 series as well, then I'll have a PSU for my next build. As of now, they are only available with white LEDs, but given the amount of RGB products coming out, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring out an RGB version at some point. That would be nice, then all lighting in a build could be matched. While it's not a performance change from the existing G2 series, I think it's one of the most important PSU releases, as PSUs have pretty much all been ugly for a long time. It's time we don't have to hide away ugly PSUs. Source: http://www.evga.com/articles/01050/evga-850-750-g2l-power-supplies/

Hello, I'm currently, building a new PC. I have purchased a EVGA Supernova G2, i wanted to sleeve the PCI-E and 24Pin cables. After looking at them, i saw they have double wires and capacitors making them very difficult to sleeve. I'm planning to get some extensions for them just abit worried about using extensions. My New build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GphL6h Are they safe to use? Are there any disadvantages of them? What would be the best extensions to use with EVGA G2 850W? Im only looking for 2x 8 Pin PCI-E cables, 24pin cable and maybe a 8pin CPU power cable. Thank you in advance, Mmkay

Full back story: Recently got a new build. Got an Asus 980 Ti Strix and Corsair RM850. The 980 ti coil whined really badly. Got a replacement and still coil whines as badly. Did more research and apparently by RM850 is garbage. And that I should have gotten the EVGA 850W G2 to begin with. As of now, I still have my old 980 Ti Strix and the new replacement unit (due date for sending back the old one still 23 days away. ). However, I only have 8 days left before I can't request a refund for my RM850. If I do decide to refund it, the EVGA G2 costs 50 euros more, so I want to make sure there's enough reason for me to refund and upgrade. So, the questions I'm asking is: 1.) Is it really that likely for PSU to cause GPU coil whine? Does upgrading to a G2 have any chance in stopping the 980 Ti's from coil whining? I have researched and have found very few (like, 1 so far) of reported cases where RM850 caused GPU to coil whine and replacing PSU helped. 2.) Even if upgrading to the G2 don't solve the GPU coil whine, is the RM850 really that bad? I mean, I ran 3D Mark 11 and have tried stressing both GPU (980 Ti SLI) and CPU (4790K) at the same time. No random shutdown or any issue whatsoever (Except some artifacting in early test, although that seems to be gone now). Perhaps it's a long term thing? That the unit will degrade over time due to it's lower quality component? Is the G2 really that far superior over the RM850? All responses are appreciated, thank you!

So if you look up the G2 series by EVGA it says on most webpages that, yes, it does indeed have eco-mode. On Newegg there are literally graphs that show eco-mode: Its even marked 1000 G2, so its not for the 850W or P2 series. The title of the NCIX page for this PSU? "EVGA SUPERNOVA 1000 G2 80 PLUS GOLD CERTIFIED 1000W FULLY MODULAR POWER SUPPLY W/ ECO MODE" But when we go to the EVGA product page, whats that? Oh, no eco-mode. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=120-G2-1000-XR Unfortunately I didn't do my full homework before I bought this PSU, blindly trusting the 3 product pages that said it did have eco-mode, which is one of the main reasons I bought this PSU to begin with. Maybe the EVGA rep will see this, I already emailed EVGA customer support to let them know that they are false advertising, but the community should know as well. If you google EVGA 1000 g2 and eco mode you don't find anything that talks about this, I guess no one has noticed yet. I'll be voiding my warranty soon by opening this unit up and changing out the fan to one of my own choice.

Corsair RM550x vs EVGA Supernova 550w G2 I cant decide which to pick. Same price of 99€ (in my local store), both have quality components, both are semi passive (G2 up to 25% load while RMx is unknown) and both have custom sleeving available. You might ask "Why even bother both are a great pick" and to your response "yes, you are right but is there ANY difference between them that make 1 slightly, just slightly better?"

So I recently bought the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 to replace my old Corsair AX750 which had terrible coil whine (probably gonna sell it or something idk). I am really happy with it, it makes no coil whine what so ever, the build quality and components are great, the cooling is passive most of the time (pretty much all the time when I'm not gaming) and it has a 10 year warranty! Now, one thing I noticed is the fan noise when the fan does spin up. It's actually quite a bit louder than on the AX750 which was pretty much inaudible all the time (not sure if it's because the fan was so quiet or if I never got it to spin at all). It's not really annoying, and when I'm gaming the fans on the graphics card are definitely louder. The only time I really notice it is after exiting the game when the graphics card cools down quite fast and goes into passive mode and the only audible fan left is the one on the PSU (which eventually stops as well). I'm asking cause I just wanted to make sure the fan on my unit is not defective or anything. Does anyone have this PSU also find the fan kinda on the loud side? Not like annoyingly loud, just loud enough to be easily audible? Maybe someone also had a Corsair PSU and can compare? Maybe it's not even a problem for most of you. I'm probably just a bit too sensitive when it comes sounds coming from the computer, which I've configured to run near-silent in idle and under light loads (semi-passively cooled GPU, very quiet CPU air cooler, most case fans off or spinning very slowly, etc).

So I just got a 850 G2 to replace my RM850. Switched on eco mode and off I went testing out the PSU. Interestingly, with 980 Ti SLI overclocked with 110% power limit. The fan never spun in a 3D Mark test and a Unigine Heaven run. That's good and all, I had to configure some things, turned system off and turned back on. The fan suddenly started spinning, it stopped a few seconds after windows booted. But omfg, the fan was LOOUUD. Louder than two 980 Ti Strix running at 43% fan speed (1300 RPM). So I switched off the system, switched eco mode off, and started system back up thinking maybe the fan just ran at full speed for whatever reason. Nope, the fan is just as loud. Is there something wrong with my unit? I would never have expected a PSU fan to be this loud. All my last 3 PSU didn't have fan noise louder than the entire system. Should I request RMA? Or is this apparently normal?
