/ • • / i have a language related question for you fine folks: i would like to learn french - mostly just the spoken part. i’ve heard your starting language plays a role in how hard it would be. i currently speak&write norwegian and english. what is the chillest way to go through with this? is it beneficial / a “must” to write on paper to learn it? i’m kinda looking for something like a audio course, that i would listen to for 1-2 hours before i go to bed. i’m open to learn it the pen and paper way, but it would steal time from my daily life. have anyone done anything like this with success? did you succeed? would love to hear your experiences with learning the french language, or any languages in general my motivation is to broaden my knowledge of languages. i really hated french/any language when i was forced to learn them at school (11. grade). but now that i have grown up i regret my earlier ignorance. i have no plans to utilize it for work or school. i’m not linus’es next employee

I am an architectural drafting student and for our last semester we have to design a mansion. My mansion is a chateau style and is called La Petite since it is on the smaller side for a mansion. We are required to have a logo for our house. I am really awful at Photoshop and don't have a lot of creativity when it comes to designing logos or even catchy names. Would someone be able to come up with a cool logo for my house? Something Frenchy! It needs to include the name "La Petite". It would also be really helpful to have a separate design for the page numbers (sorta like a box with the number in it). Thanks a lot! I can't wait to see the designs. *Even something simple like

Hi Linus and friends, I'm here since the beginning of Linus @ NCIX and it was a huge growth over the years, the quality of the content and the show were going in the good direction, until...now. It looks like we hit a point of quality content vs quantity to please YT algorithms. Maybe it's time to get new peeps coming to your channel, like french Canadians. Like, 9 000 000 people. I'm a dynamic overall tech who would be pleased to get in touch for any questions or needs about french related topics. Canada is a bilingual country and Linus is intelligent, he knows what to do. *this text is written by a french-canadian, please be patient* (:

Today I watched an interesting video on the new 'Shadow' technology. For £30 quid a month you can rent a 8 core 12gb ram 1080 virtiual pc and connect to it using a dumb client with next to no lag (supposedly) I think you guys should check it out, the concept has been around for some time with Citrix or other virtualisation software however they are specifically targeting the gaming market and promoting no lag... is this the death of the pc? https://shadow.tech/int

According to France's National Data Protection Commission (CNIL), Microsoft does not comply with the French Data Protection Act and has been given 3 months to make the necessary chances to comply. French authorities has done several investigations and found that Microsoft is failing on a number of different privacy-related aspects. In the investigation, Windows 10 was found to collect irrelevant or excessive data, lacking security, users were included in the data collection without their consent, lack of information and no option to block cookies and also transferring personal data back to the US on a "safe harbour" basis (an agreement which is not valid since October 2015). Source: CNIL Full statement: Microsoft has responded that they will work with the CNIL to solve these issues. As noted by BetaNews, Microsoft does not actually deny any of the accusations. Here is Microsoft's full statement: Source: BetaNews I am very pleased to hear this. Back when it was first discovered that Windows 10 collected a big amount of information about the user a lot of people said things along the lines of: As it turns out, we didn't hear about it back then because the investigation was still work in progress. It is now done and the French government is not happy about how Microsoft is acting. Hopefully this will lead to a positive change for users. A chance which gives users more information and control over how and what personal information Microsoft collects.

I have about 200-300 words of english that need to be translated into French and Spanish accurately. It doesn't need to be perfect but I'm looking for something better than Google translate because that generally doesn't go down to well... . It's for a presentation I have to do for school. I have to speak about a hobby/topic of my choice (computer building) for 1-2 minutes in French and SPAMish Cheers!

So recently bought a Alcatel OneTouch Idol X Black and so far it seems good except for some lag issues. I have 15 days to try this phone if I want to exchange it for another. I got this phone for free with a $30 plan for 2 year tab of $200.00 on Virgin Mobile. Location: Vancouver, BC So thoughts on this phone? Preferably those who has personal experience with this phone. Specs wise I am fine with. Its more performance and reliability and user experience i am more worried about.

Hello! As the title suggest, I am looking for a good mechanical keyboard (preferably with blue switchs) with a French (canadian) layout (see the attached file). If anyone have an Idea where I could find one, I would really appreciate if you could share it! Thanks.

Hi! Again I need a translator(s) for the above languages since the translator who did the German and French translations before decided to stop responding (It's for a program I'm making for fun, I will not make any money out of it). So if anyone feels they want to help me out I would appreciate it! It is a one paged document with about 60 words/sentences (mostly words, with a total of about 60 words in the doc including the sentences) which I need translated. It's the only thing I need translated for this program as of this update. No new updates are currently planned. What I'm looking for is someone who can translate a few different words that I would like to get accurately translated to each of the languages (So I'd prefer if you are a native speaker, not a requirement though. As long as you speak it well). The languages are German and French. (So no Google translate please, I can do that myself...) As long as you know one, please contact me, if you want to of course. What it's intended for is a small program that I have been working on that I will hopefully release soon. (As soon as I get the translations added to the program code I can upload my new website to my host.) The reason I'm doing it is for it to be multilingual. But it is a small program that I'm not expecting anyone to use really. It's just a hobby project for personal training. The program will be released for free and I will probably not make any big money out of ads, if anyone ever visits the website at all (Probably not). It's just for my own personal training really but I wanted to do it nicely and I thought that someone here surely could help me with translation! Contact me if you know one or more of the languages and I will send you a link to the G-doc with the words to translate into your language. (Keeping in mind that it is for a program, so i.e. "Door out" in English is not appropriate as "Exit" in a program or something similar. Even though they can mean pretty much the same thing in other cases. (Not exactly, but you get my point.) I would like appropriate terms for a computer program, basically.) But again, to be clear, there will be no payment. I can, if you want to, add some credits in the program and on the website when everything is done that you have helped with the translation. You can give me your real name or if you want your username that you have on the forum displayed. That is optional though. But that is all I can do I'm afraid. Regards, Ludwig Johnson

Hello everyone from LinusTechTips, I'm working on a project, and I would appreciate some help translating it. I've made most of the translations myself with the help of some friends, but there are a few languages that I'm having trouble with. The language I'm looking forward the most is french, if any of you is able to help me, I'll leave the corresponding words/expressions I need on my program down below, so you can translate it if you can do so. I need the following translated to French : "Username Password Tab Read From/Read Write To/Write Options Logout/Log-out Visibility Return to Editor Return Change Details Change Username/Password" If you're able to translate it to other languages, let me know which languages you refer to, and I'll reply to let you know if I need those translations. Thank you in advance, Nuno

So, as it has been said, Linux is the future. Not just for gaming apparently, with Steam's OS, and AMD's Mantle, but apparently for law enforcement agencies too. Story at /. I think this is pretty epic. Note that Gendarmerie Is the Military police force, and usually patrols the country side (taken from comments on the post). I'd make a joke, but some people are sensitive to that. Windows is on the downfall. In related news: Windows' #1 OS is still XP. This is due, mostly, to China using it quite extensively (which correlates with them being the most populace nation in the world). With the coming EOL of XP, Microsoft is basically giving away the keys to the OS (the most exploitable vulnerabilities and such) when this happens on April 8th of 2014. Thereby making XP a horrible horrible choice for anyone to have, ever, for any reason. Except in a Virtual Machine (but even then...). What do you think is going to happen when this becomes reality and China is faced with changing OSes? Hint: Linux is going to become very popular very fast. Calling it now.

No worries, it's done now. Hi! What I'm looking for is someone who can translate a few different words that I would like to get accurately translated to each of the languages. The languages are German, Spanish and French. (So no Google translate please, I can do that myself...) What it's intended for is a small program I have been working on that I will hopefully release soon. (As soon as I get a website up and running and finish some smaller things in the program.) But I thought it'd be nice to include some other languages as well. The program will be released for free and I will probably not make any big money out of ads, if anyone ever visits the website at all. It's just for my own personal training really but I wanted to do it nicely and I thought that someone here surely could help me with translation! Even though they can mean pretty much the same thing in other cases. (Not exactly, but you get my point.) I would like appropriate terms for a computer program, basically.) But again, to be clear, there will be no payment. I can, if you want, add some credits either in the program or on the website when everything is done (There is really no time frame for this..) that you have helped with translation. You can give me your real name or if you want your username that you have on the forum displayed. But that is all I can do I'm afraid. If anyone wonders, it's about 40 words to translate. But those ~40 words include all of the months and days so that is something you really just have to type not look it up (maybe?) and see what is appropriate in that case. Regards, Ludwig Johnson
