  1. 1. Budget & Location for this build i have a max budget of US$1200 and i am located in Texas near a micro center if that helps 2. Aim primary purpose will be for School and running solid works and inventor with complex assembles ,blender, multiple containers and VMs. would would also like to be able to play space engineers, ksp, Gta V, and cyberpunk when it comes out. would prefer to play at 1080. Needs to have WiFi capability ideally i would like to prioritize science and i don't care for rgb just prefer coordination of colors 3. Monitors currently running two 1080p monitors and will eventually get a third most likely at 1440p 4. Peripherals if it can fit in the budget without sacrificing performance a 1440p monitor else no peripherals are needed and already have a copy of window 10 5. Why are you upgrading? upgrading because currently running off of a 2in1 laptop that sounds as if its going to take off when running solid works and struggles to render objects is also slow to run small coding projects and vms
  2. I want a little advice about my system. I have chosen the following parts and as you can see I haven't chosen a case neither the cooling system. The reason is that I want to make it as silent and as cool as I can. As for the budget, I'd like to spend something between 100-150 and for the cooling system I'd like to spend maximum 60% of the case's budget. Do you have any suggestions for a silent PC case and cooling system? Parts picked
  3. Hi y'all, With third-gen ryzen out, I feel like this is the perfect time to get building, but I'm in-between some part choices. I'm gonna use the computer for gaming and some light photo and video editing. my budget is less than $1200. The Parts I have so far/need help with are (Things with slashes are things I need help deciding but I'll take any criticism) : Ryzen 5 3600/Ryzen 7 3700x Noctua U14S x570/x470 AsusTuf Wifi / x570/x470 Asus Prime Pro 16gb Sniper X 3600 970 Evo Plus 500gb and maybe add an 860 Evo 1tb drive later on Gtx 1660 ti / Rtx 2060 / Rx 5700 I'm using an old mac pro case from 2005 cuz I want my pc in a mac lol 550w G3 PSU / 650w G3 PSU Please help I'm lost. and I'm using a 1080p monitor and trying to get at least 60 fps on most games, like borderlands, witcher 3. GTA 5. stuff like that. Thanks!
  4. 1. Budget & Location Nothing more then 1.5k Canadian. Canadia. 2. Aim Gaming, video editing, and digital 2D drawing. The most strenuous game I will most likely be playing BDO, I'd be fine with 75 up to 100 FPS at high setting at 1080p. 3. Monitors Current monitor is Asus vg245h, 75hz, 1080p, I'm looking to get more monitors but not any time soon. 4. Peripherals None necessary for purchase. 5. Why are you upgrading? The laptop I'm currently using has slowed down significantly and the performance of the placeholder pre-built desktop is disappointing, yes I know I could simply upgrade the pre-built I simply don't want to. 6. Additional A few questions, does 3200 ddr4 out of the box work on x470? or do I need to fiddle with the BIOS? and does anyone have or has used PSU's from PC Power & Cooling? im very interested in getting their Silencer Mk III series of PSU's for ascetics. I don't plan to OC but it is an option. Lastly this is my current build on pcpartpicker. 5. PCPartPicker Part List First time building a PC. I'd love it if you could look over my parts and see if I'm overlooking anything. Purpose: I'm going to start my Masters in Engineering next year and I wanted to beef up my computer. While gaming is appreciated, I'm looking for something powerful first and gaming second, which is why my GPU is likely to be my bottleneck. Looking to spend somewhere in the realm of $1000. CPU: I plan to overclock the Ryzen 5 2600. I also wanted a water cooler mostly for the flex so that might be slightly mismatched. ¯\(ツ)/¯ GPU: Question, which would be better, a $200 ($180 w/ Google Express) XFX AMD Radeon RX 590 Fatboy OC+ or a $210 Sapphire AMD Radeon Nitro+ RX 580. I have heard very great things about the Sapphire Nitro RX 580 but I'm not sure if the RX 590 deal from today is a better one. 6. Hi all, Looking to invest and build a a gaming PC. Nothing too fancy but I don't plan on changing / upgrading any part of it for 3-5 years?. Daily use will be limited, but on evenings I want to be gaming - 1440p preferable and not bothered about 4k. Mainly i play sim games ( HOI4, CIV, Total Wars, Train sims and also open world style GTA 5 / Red Dead Redemption) Originally i was going a 'budget' build (hence ryzen) but once the total got close to a £1000 i thought i'm happy to spend that little bit more - get the tempered glass case and admire it every time i see it. If i'm paying good money i want to see it in all its glory. ( plus a few LED's) PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($165.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte - X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($149.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($87.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB WINDFORCE OC 8G Video Card ($439.99 @ Newegg) Case: Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400 TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: be quiet! - Pure Power 10 500W 80+ Silver Certified ATX Power Supply ($106.12 @ Amazon) Wireless Network Adapter: Asus - PCE-AC56 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter ($59.97 @ Amazon) Total: $1200.03 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-10-06 15:11 EDT-0400 Prices i know aren't the best and i plan on picking them up over the next 4 months and building it early next year. This should allow me to buy on any deals ( black friday / xmas / new releases ) I have old peripherals and don't need to buy new ones until i know my setup better in my new house. (desk sizes / placing etc) Not fixed on any parts in particular so i'f you can advise any substitutions let me know below. Plan is to boot and use the Samsung M.2 as my primary with the OS and general programs, my game library isn't massive so i'll pickup a 500gb SSD card. GPU i went from 1070 then for ~£50 more up to 1070 ti then for ~£50 more up to the 1080 which i think is worth investing in to future proof? Just a few questions - I'm not planning to overclock so will stock wraith cooler be sufficient or do i need bigger? Will have at least 2 fans at the front and 1 at the back, or up to 3 at the front and 2 at back/top. Not looking to water cool. Can i use the M.2 stick as a boot / will i be getting the best performance from it? Or am i wasting money and a SSD be no loss? I know the wireless adapter is a tad OTT but is it worth getting it built into the motherboard? I know the 16GB ram is OTT and will probably drop to 2x4GB and that still leaves room for another set of 2x4GB. This was an end game plan. Will power be an issue? i went for bequiet as i want this PC on top of the desk. Any help appreciated.
  7. Hi so I'm working on a Hackintosh build and the budget of this project is $2100. This is my FIRST Hackintosh build. I already had a good line up of what I wish for. I wanted to know if you guys think this is a good build, and would be compatible to do so. This might sound Odd, But I wanted to do this on a Old PowerMac G5 case just to make it more discrete in my workspace, plus I don't like the PC desktop tower cases in general, (and if you guys had any suggestions on where to do laser cutting for the fitments that would be awesome too.) Reason for a Hackintosh build in general, is for my Production use. I am an Audio Engineer and major in Recording, Mixing & Mastering. & Logic Pro X plays a Huge roll in my life as my Main DAW of choice. And I will be using Bootcamp to partition Windows 10 after the Mac Install is complete, graphics don't worry me too much, Which is why I am choosing a GTX 1060 to balance me out. So here is what I'm looking at so far.. PowerMac G5 Case Custom Cut. ASUS sabertooth Z170 Mark I Intel i7 6700k Kingston HyperX Ram cards DDR4, 32GB EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 ACX 3.0 (6GB model) Corsair Hydro series H100i Liquid Cooler (240mm) EVGA 850 GQ GOLD+, 850w Power Supply. WD 2 TB 7200RPM Samsung 250GB SSD LG Bluray Drive Copy of Macintosh Yosemite 10.10.5 So far I've estimated everything down to $1780 In parts. Please let me know If you think this is so far a good build, or If maybe any changes should be made for more reliablity. I would highly appreciate the advice! Thanks & I'm happy to be apart of the Linus Tech tips community! -Nick IG | @truleyy
  8. Hi guys I need a new gaming pc.My budget is $400.The PC must include a wireless card and has a upgradeability path. Thanks for your help. Almost forgot the games I play are GTA V , Minecraft , Kerbal Space Program , PUBG , Space Engineers , Rocket League and Overwatch.
  9. I am hoping to get some feedback on what I am thinking in terms of my cooling strategy for a new build. I am also trying to double check if I will need any additional power adapters or extensions, so I can make sure to order all the parts that I will need. It would be very valuable to me if anyone wants to walk me through specifically how you would expect to power the fans, either through the motherboard or directly off the power supply. I am interested in what connections, extensions, or adapters you would need to do that which I will need to order. I am new to building PCs so this is as much about learning how to do it as it is about getting better performance. I understand that some of what I am doing may be over-thinking a fairly basic build but I want to learn what I can at the same time as I try to make things a little bit better. I value silence highly, though I understand that I will need to put up with more noise than I would wish. I also value performance. I do plan to learn to overclock with this machine so that may factor in as well. I do not care at all about RGB lighting and would prefer not to deal with it. A matching color scheme to the components is also irrelevant to me. The new build I am working on is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qRHgVY I already have the Case, Power Supply, Optical Drive, and Keyboard. I have already placed an order for the GPU, RAM, and Motherboard. I am in the process of building my final orders with retailers trying to make sure I get the number of fans and any additional wires I need correct to save on headaches and shipping. I am new to shopping for parts, so am not very familiar with brands or the level of quality they represent. A lot of the reviewers I have been watching seem to favor Noctua for performance, but I am open to other brands as well. I have been watching some videos to become familiar with concepts like positive pressure, and static pressure vs airflow. I am going to shoot for positive pressure in my system. The case I picked out has 2x 120mm fans that came with it; one is on the front as an intake, the other at the rear as exhaust. I was planning to leave them in place. The front panel has filtering on it, so I was going to add another 120mm fan with good static pressure on the front even though it will be somewhat obstructed by the drive shelves behind it. So that would be 2x 120mm fans on the front for intake. Then the open side panel has ventilation and places to install fans so I was going to install 2 more fans (140mm) there as intake with a filter in front of them. I was thinking going for static pressure fans for those as well. Then the top of the case has a lot of ventilation cut into it with room for more fans. I was thinking of just using one 140mm high-airflow fan on top at the rear without a filter for exhaust. So I would end up getting 3x 140mm and 1x 120mm fans, plus the 2x 120mm fans the case came with. I would be pulling air in from the side and from the front, and pushing out the back and top. There is more ventilation on the top, back, and bottom where I hope the positive pressure will be pushing air out. The fans from the GPU seem a little odd to work around without creating a bunch of turbulence but it seems to me like the GPU fans won't conflict with the setup and will help push some air out the bottom of the case. The PSU is on the bottom but seems isolated by the walls of the PSU, except for what may come back in through the bottom of the case; but I think the positive pressure with some help from the GPU fans should take care of that. The ventilation in the side panel starts near the top. It looks like it would set the intake fans next to the CPU cooler. I am not 100% sure the top one would fit with the CPU cooler installed. Another thing I may consider is trying to rotate the CPU cooler to push air up instead of towards the back of the case, if the mounting system will allow for that. With all of these fans (I realize it may be a bit overkill) I will expect to have the 2x 3pin connectors from the fans that came with the case, plus another 4x 4pin connectors from the additional fans to plug in. I am having trouble telling exactly how many fan connectors there are on the Asus motherboard. I also don't know if I will need anything extra to plug some of the fans into the PSU. There is a "Peripheral" cable that came with the PSU which has 4pin connections that seems promising, but that seems like it would be female to female connections, unless the needed parts are included with the fans. Obviously I don't know what that cable is really supposed to be used with. Any help or insight is appreciated. I will continue doing research into the fans and trying to figure out the pins, cables, and connections. -JD
  10. This is my first time looking into making my own PC I've looked at a lot of articles and watched quite a few Linus videos. Here is the current and rough list of what I have in mind to get. I want to use it for 1080p 60+ fps gaming (in most new AAA games out at the moment) as well as some CAD software usage for school work. The only thing i'm missing is the monitor keyboard and mouse. My budget would be around $1000 USD not including monitor and peripherals. Any way to make it slightly cheaper without changing the CPU, Video Card, and Case? Thanks in advance! 11. Hello, I am building a pc for the first time and wanted some advice before committing to buying parts. I will be using the computer to play games, use 3d modeling softwares (like AutoCAD), and maybe VR in the future. Here is the build so far: CPU: Intel i7 7700k Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: MSI - Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive and Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive GPU: GTX 1080 ti PSU: EVGA - 850W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Case: be quiet! - Silent Base 800 (Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case with Windows, a keyboard, and a mouse, the build is about $2100. I have not yet decided on a monitor. Here's all my questions: 1) Is the PSU overkill? Pc part picker says the build is about 500W rn 2) Is there any part of the build that would bottleneck the others, or one part that is way better than the others? 3) Monitors? what monitor would you all recommend for this build? I want a fairly nice monitor to match the quality of the other parts in my build, but nothing too absurd on price. I am going to start with a single monitor, and maybe upgrade to a second once I save up some more money again. I am looking at 27 inch, 2560 x 1440 resolution monitors rn, specifically i was looking at the Asus - MG279Q, but am totally open to suggestions. 4) Any other thoughts on something I might need, or do you see any compatibility issues? All advice and general thoughts are appreciated, Thanks!

  17. Hey there folks i just logged in with my Steam account to ask some questions i couldnt dig up anywhere because they are super specific! As you probably haven't guessed by the title, Im doing my first build. To be precise a Prodigy build. As the minute i saw that case i fell in love with the interior and exterior design. So i embarked on a massive quest, searching far and wide on the immortal plain known as the internet to find my parts. Since i'm on a tight budget as i am a rather poor fellow i came up with this. Case: Bitfenix Prodigy Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+ CPU: AMD x4 860k GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 750 Ti 2gb PSU: HALE82 v2 550W NZXT* RAM: Kingston Fury White 8gb DDR3-1600 CL10 kit (2x4) *It used to be the corsair CX430M but ill explain why im probably going with the HALE later Now when i had added all this loot to my wheelbarrow and was about to press the Deliver said loot to your castle button. I felt that my loot wasnt quite glamarous enough understanding the full consequences of me pimping my ride i looked up ancient forums. Which contained information on LEDS, painting your gpu, and different colors with blue LEDS. Since i love myself some aesthetics i settled for this extra list of stuff A windowed side panel for my prodigy 2x 120mm blue led strips from bitfenix alchemy heat resistant spray paint for my gpu's shell Enermax ETS-T40-W Then a few days after this i saw that bitfenix also has sleeved cables So i thought well let's go with a Modular PSU then and make it white to go even better with the whole build And know i am hopelessly stuck as to choose the best color for the cables as i dont know how blue would look and i dont want to overkill it with too much white so here i am wondering which color of sleeved cables i want (ps. i have a HDD laying around so its not missing) If you have any suggestions or advice on the total build then please, do tell!
  18. Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone could give me some good advice and recommendations on my editing setup I want to build. I have decided that instead of buying a car that I will build this work station to follow my dream of becoming a digital media artist. My current build is as follows: Processor Intel core i7 4930k Motherboard Asus rampage IV gene lga 2011 Ram 32gb (4x8gb) gskill ripjaws z CPU cooler Corsair h60 OS Windows 8 Storage 500gb samsung 840 evo SSD for os and programs 2tb western digital caviar black hdd for current work files 4tb western digital caviar black for mass storage of files Case Bitfenix phenom PSU Corsair AX 860 Gpu 2 Evga reference Gtx 780 in sli Any thing that you guys can do to help me make this build better will be very much appreciated. I have $4000 for everything including peripherals. So any suggestions on those will be helpful too. I an willing to wait and save up more moneyif I need to. Thanks in advance. Sorry as I do not know how this will look on a PC as I typed all of this on my phone.
  19. Hi guys, I'm planning to build a new gaming PC in a few months from now and I want some advise and recommendations for parts from people who probably have more knowledge and experience than I do with computer parts. My budget is $2500 AUD. Thanks in advance
  20. okay gentlemen, I'm new to this community and have never custom built a pc before, however i am a quick learner and only have a few questions. i am tired of 1080p graphics and seeing that 4k is the new up and comer, id like to build a pc that can handle decent 4k. mind you, it doesn't have to be a phenomenal system that runs everything at 70+ fps. 40-60 fps is fine for me. having said that i am looking looking at a couple components and would like to know if what I'm asking for is feasible: CPU: intel 4790k MOBO: asus maximus hero vii GPU: ROG poseidon 780 x 2 in SLI RAM: corsair vengeance 1600mhz 8GB x2 PSU: corsair hx 850 (enough power?) Cooling: swiftech 220-x SSD: intel 730 240GB HDD: WD black 3tb CASE: corsair graphite 760t i know this will cost a little over 2k with all these components and I'm looking at an asus 4k monitor along with corsair rgb mech keyboard and razer mouse in addition. cost isn't super important but i don't want to pay 5k if i don't have to. what do you guys think? is this reasonable? any revisions i should make? anything not compatible? please let me know!
  21. So im building myself my first gaming PC. I have a motherboard but its a server board with dual xeons. finding a case not so easy so Ive decided to do an open system like Linus's test bench. provides a bit more heat dissipation i guess. but how do I mount it to a board? spacers? offsets? I know it should be elevated so the bottom side of the motherboard can breathe a bit but how do I do this? Also my motherboard has no screws... Any help at all would be much appreciated.
  22. What i5 cpu should I pair with an r9 390, 6500 or 6600? is the performance increase from the 6600 worth it?
  23. I'm choosing between the RM650x and Seasonic P-660 Platinum. Any suggestions on what should I get and why?
  24. I'm thinking of either buying a pre-built pc or make a custom one. I just want your guys opinion. PC Build:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yTMXCJ
