So I am considering buying a new router since the one I got from my ISP can only do wifi and have a little switch connected for wired. The problem is that my pc when connected to the switch can't find devices connected to the router via wifi. So I wanted to get a router that has wifi and a few lan ports instead of having the router and switch seperate. I could maybe throw 50 dollars on a router and be more happy with it than what I have now or maybe I would need to spend a lot more? I have only ever had the standard routers I got from my ISP. I had considered wanting to use my quest 2 headset with oculus airlink but I am not sure if any router would do or if I had to buy something more expensive like a "Asus rt-ax86u" for example? I play games on pc that is always wired, my ps5 use wifi and is in the same room as the router, and then I use my smart tv that is upstairs that is in the room right above the router. So it isn't a huge house or anything. I hope that someone will be able to give som suggestions or information. Cause I am not sure what exactly I am looking for or what price point I need to look at to get what I just explained?

Hello, I'm using dual-band router with both frequencies working (2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz). SSIDs are different, so I won't get confused. My ISP provides me with 100 Mbps DL / 10 Mbps UP internet speed. I have max 5 devices connected to my router at the same time (1 by Ethernet - tv box, 2 smartphones by WiFi, 1 laptop by WiFi and Chromecast by WiFi) Neighbours have one 5 GHz radio long distance away my flat, and other radios (like 10 or so, closer in proximity) are 2.4 Ghz My router specs: Dual-band WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz WLAN 802.11 ac, 5GHz (4x4) 4 MU-MIMO antennas WiFi frequencies used by devices: iPhone 7 - 2.4 Ghz Galaxy S7 - 5 Ghz Chromecast - 5 Ghz Laptop - 5 Ghz Problem is: When I'm playing online game on my S7 and my wife uses laptop at the same time, I get ping spikes and lags (from 30 ms to 250 ms) every time she opens a website or generally moderately uses internet (not downloading stuff). Even tho I'm sitting like 3 meters from a router and she's like two rooms away. When she's not using internet everything works like a charm. Furthermore, when I was playing CS: GO on laptop, connected through 5 GHz I got lags (I was sitting 2 meters from router), but switching to 2.4 GHz solved the problem, no more lag... and I suppose she weren't even using her iPhone whole time, but I'm not sure, and both devices at the beginning were connected to 5 Ghz wifi Another weird example - chromecast - while streaming whole phone screen. Chromecast is like 1 meter from router. When S7 and Chromecast are connected both to 5 Ghz there is slight lag after connecting. Like I have to wait 3 or 4 seconds before Chromecast responds with actual screen after showing first screen (it freezes for a moment). After those couple of seconds everything starts to work super smoothly and fast. But if S7 is connected to 5 GHz and Chromecast is connected to 2.4 GHz there's no lag, no screen freeze at all! My question is: Is it possible that connecting all devices to 5GHz may cause ping spike and laging, and seperating devices to different frequencies (like 2 devices on 5 ghz and 2 devices on 2.4 Ghz) will let router to provide me with better ping times and generating no lag? Or maybe it's my router is faulty and cannot keep up when everything is on 5GHz?

So I have the Xfinity XB3 router, it’s specified as dual-band 802.11ac. I believe this to be a WiFi Wave1 device (also called a 1x1). It’s offering speeds over 700 Mbps. I’m looking at a 802.11AC wave 2 compatible motherboard (Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard) for a build. It claims to have 802.11AC 1x1 of 433Mbps, or 802.11AC 2x2 of 867Mbps. I know the 2x2 (also known as wave 2) wifi to be backwards compatible with my router’s 1x1 (wave 1) wifi; however, what I can’t seem to find anywhere I look is wether I will get the full 867Mbs using my router’s 1x1 wifi capability or if I’m only going to be getting the 433Mbps as a cap. So if I use 802.11AC 2x2 (Wave2) WiFi connection via my Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard, will I get 867 or 433Mbps? If I am capped at 433Mbps, I might as well use the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC motherboard, which has better features and is specified for Dual-band 802.11 AC 1x1 WiFi. Please just answer my question, don't sell me on getting one or the other or a different motherboard.

Hello. I am currently trying to figure out whether I should buy a new dual-band router. We currently use a dlink dir-615 router that is single band, and only uses 2.4 channel. In our household we have dozens of devices going off all the time. There are 6 of us living there, each with a phone, a few with tablets and TVs where they watch stream sites like netflix or play games on there consoles. Our internet is terrible, as we live out in the country and only get 5 Mbps download speed (2.5 during speedtests on our cabled computer) and 512Kbps upload speed. We have a router that connects to our modem provided by our ISP. We don't have any other options currently for a better internet plan. With that being said, I don't know much about these things. Would a dual-band or even triple-band router be worth getting to reduce the latency when playing games and prevent our network from getting so clogged up? Whenever someone arrives at our house the internet tends to stop for a couple minutes. Would a better router fix this? Thank you for your time.

Quick and noobish question: I have a modem/router which only has the old band wifi (no ac) If i were to get a dual band router, would I be able to use dual-band (AC) ?

Greetings, I am attempting to setup a wireless connection on a recently built pc with my Asus N53 wireless adapter. Originally I used the setup utility CD and it functioned, however it was not picking up any 5 Ghz networks so I attempted to amend that using this short youtube guide: Unfortunately this did not work, the driver installed but my adapter was not recognized. I then downloaded the drivers from the Asus support page and attempted to install them manually, which failed, then with an installer as I did in the beginning, which also failed. The adapter works immediately when I plug it in to my laptop, no driver or utility install necessary (PnP), but it will no longer function at all with my PC. I would appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I just bought this wifi adapter recently https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IEU7UZ0/ref=sxts_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514004465&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65 It works great on the 2.4 ghz band, but on the 5 GHz band it will work for maybe 2 minutes, then will stop receiving internet. It'll stay connected with full bars but isn't receiving anything. I've tried using both windows 10 default drivers and the one that came with the adapter on a disk, using different USB ports, and I even turned off power saving in device manager. I have no idea what to do

I have spent hours scouring the internet for a PC headset that will connect to the PC via dual-band wifi and to my phone via bluetooth. I would like to have surround sound on the headset, which is why I am not talking about bluetooth to the PC. A while back, Turtle Beach upgraded an old headset of mine to the i60's. They do just as I want, but the headset is very unreliable. Before you tell me about how I shouldn't waste my time with this setup, I understand all the reasons why there are better options... however, I work at home. I constantly field phone calls through my phone and PC. A lot of the time, I am moving around from my desk to my workbench. I could however see an argument being made for a full bluetooth connection to the PC and phone. It's been a while since I researched bluetooth, but it never had good enough quality for surround. Not sure about 4.2. I appreciate any help that you may be able to offer. thanks
