Summary In a Video on YT Marc Rober covers Zipline, a company working on drones that helps making crucial medical delieveries in Rwanda possible. The company also works on a drone system for door-to-door delieveries. Is that the future of deliveries to your door? Quotes My thoughts I loved to see the impact the drone technology has had on the rwandan society. Improving the quality of the health system there and in other african countries. The new drone system could be the solution to the still exisiting problem of how to get the goods to the customer in an ecological and economical way. Sources https://www.flyzipline.com/

Hi there my name is Tristan munz and I am looking for someone to please give me some simple guidance on installing my own custom battery in a dji phantom 2. I developed my own battery but powers the drone on and doesn't let it take off and gives it the red light error saying no flight possible (and recognises it as a non dji intelligent battery so how can I bypass this) Please if anybody knows of a trick or cable that would need modding inside the drone please let me know I'm desperate and is for a client who needs this drone Kinda regards Tristan Feel most welcome to reply on the forum or my email is tristanmunz@gmail.com

In Norway, salmon farming is a multi billion dollar industry. The salmon are cultivated in closed off areas out in the sea. However, among other threats to the fish, there is a little animal creating havoc: The sea louse. Yeah, you read that right: Salmon can get lice. And just like on humans, they feed on the fish. To combat this, a Norwegian company called Beck Engineering, a company with expertise in ocean farming, has developed an underwater drone to combat this issue. Yes, a freaking underwater laser drone shoots and kills the lice, as the fish swim past, not noticing anything. No manual check of the fish, no stress or harm to the fish. A fully automated laser armed killer drone. The US army just collectively bust a nut! Source: http://spectrum.ieee.org/semiconductors/optoelectronics/licehunting-underwater-drone-protects-salmon-with-lasers http://www.stingray.no/page/6001/Optisk_avlusing What I think: This is some next gen stuff right there. A freaking underwater drone armed with a laser, that shoots moving targets on living creatures. It's pretty damn awesome. Surely it will improve the health of the fish, and in the end result in higher quality food as well.

Hello fellow internauts! I already have some experience with RC (2 fixed wings, a 250 CP heli, and a 500 DIY quad). However I have been out of the trade for almost a year, and I would really like to try out mini quads. In short I would like to get your recommendations for a good mini quad kit (or parts). I already have a programmable radio, good charger, and basic FPV set. Unfortunately I only have about 250 USD to spend on the craft + batteries (screw the mexican peso!). If the parts can be from hobbyking that would be even better since it is easier to get them to Mexico. If you think I should just save some money, then that is a possibility too. Thanks in advance!

Hello folks, what are you doing. I am fairly new in photopgraphy and film making business, but a recent business opportunity forces me to learn a lot more than i should in a very short period of time. Specifically, a high end film is about to take place for one of my client and asked me yo assemble a complete business plan for that purpose. The client gave me 5 weeks to put together the plan which started on Monday so a quick and detailed response will be most wellcoming. My client wants to have a couple of drones for the job of long range shooting plus a small crew camera to handle short range and indoor shooting. Now to the tricky part, the requirements for the film is minimum 4K, which means the on board drone cameras wont cut it. Also it needs to be somewhat light in order not to have custom made drones made for that specific reason. The budget is 560.000,00 Euros which must include the following: 1) 3 cameras of the same model with at least 4K cabapilities and to be able to run with a small crew (1-2 people max) 2) 2 drones with enough precision control and power to support the before mentioned cameras. 3) Other necessary equipment for the shooting. ALSO i must mention here that i need a complete list of the camera equipment so ssd's, power banks and batteries, lences, mounts etc. must be included. Furthermore the film will be around 85 minutes long and all rendering will be done by an independent outsourced company. At last i wanted your opinion on the Red Camera line up which a friend of mine suggested for those kinds of shoots, but when i show the actual cost of those things it completly blew my mind, 85.000,00 Euros for each one, god. Thank you for your time and please responde as quickly as you can.

Hello I have been wandering through drone footage on Youtube (cause it's cool) and I have found some things that drone pilots may not be fully aware of yet. Some background on the issue is that my mom is a landscape architect who does contracted work for the National Park Service on a regular basis. Over the weekend while I was showing her footage that someone had taken of a National Monument she told me something interesting. Drones are not only illegal to fly without a commercial permit (only given for contractors for NPS use) in a National Park Service Unit (any piece of land belonging to the NPS). The penalties can vary in severity, I have heard as little as a $70 fine but the fines and penalties for flying over, say the Lincoln Monument or Arlington National Cemetery would be very different. Up to this year the policy would differ from park to park, but over this summer with the 100th anniversary of the National Parks a severe crackdown and emphasis on enforcing the law has been enacted, and yes even if you have a license you will be fined and/or arrested. Know before you fly, and know before you go. Have a good time flying! https://www.npca.org/articles/951-flight-plan https://www.nps.gov/policy/PolMemos/PM_14-05.htm https://www.nps.gov/search/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&affiliate=nps&query=drones http://knowbeforeyoufly.org/for-recreational-users/

I have heard of some people selling racing drone for a profit. Is that still a profitable thing? or even a job/side job related to that.

Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-38458867 Amazon continues to expand their vision for the future with this "warehouse mothership" idea. I can't see this taking off (no pun intended) any time soon, but its a cool concept.

I have a Mavic Pro that hasn't been letting me take pictures for a while now and its starting to get in the way of things. I have look all over the place trying to find a solution but have only been able to find one or two others with this problem. It makes the picture sound when I press the button on the screen but doesn't save it. The controller button doesn't even make a noise. I have tried to refresh the firmware but that also didn't work. Any other ideas or possible solutions are much appreciated!

I know it's a weird question. A customer of mine needs a drone that can follow his other drone automatically. A little background info: The main drone is used to measure rooftops and other big areas. For an advertising film he now needs a drone that can follow the main drone around since he doesn't want to fly it manualy himself and renting a helicopter and shooting it on a camera is too expensive. Are there any drones that can follow a moving object like that? Or are there small devices that you could put on the main drone so that the other one can follow that?

Mini itx PC inside an UAV (probably an hexacopter).
Pawan Sharma posted a topic in Hobby Electronics
Guys! I Need help, So i am planning to make a UAV which would be flying at the speed > 60 Kmph (38 mph). I am planning to use ZED camera for detecting obstacles and image processing. Spec sheet of ZED cam specifies that it need a processor with core clock > 2.3 GHz and cuda supported "NVIDIA" GPU with compute compatibility > 3.0. So i am planning to use a low power mini ITX PC onboard powered by AMD Athlon 300GE (Because of its low TDP and clock speed of 3.4 GHz base) with a nvidia GPU (probably GTX1650). Assuming that we have a way around Weight and power consumption. Should i worry about endurance of these components at this speed? Should i worry about static electricity damaging the components? We were initially planning to use nvidia's jetson boards but they can achieve max of 1900MHz (after overclocking). Please Guys I want your suggestion. -
Sorry if this should go in off topic and not in general discussion. I was traveling to visit family, and was delayed by the drones flying at Gatwick airport. I know there is a thread in tech news about this, but I was wondering if anyone else here was affected by these delays?

Hi guys, This is just a quickie I was looking at getting a DJI spark or a phantom 3 for Christmas and I wanted to know what one to get, I've watched a few videos on them and can't decide what one to get, on some videos the spark's camera looks really good but then on other it's looks really bad, the phantom seems to have an all round decent camera, I can the spark fly more combo plus an extra battery for about $770 and the base phantom 3 2.7k for about $900 any help would be appreciated what one to get or a different one to get bit my budget is about $900 AUD.

In a memo from August this year that has been released and is being reported on, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is stating that DJI drones are being used as data collection tools for the Chinese Government. https://www.engadget.com/2017/11/30/homeland-security-claims-dji-drones-spying-china/ ICE Memo: https://info.publicintelligence.net/ICE-DJI-China.pdf The memo itself provides a fairly interesting read although I'm doubtful to the extent that this is being used for data collection and espionage purposes... It is worth contemplating though since DJI has stated (at least according to the memo) that they comply with requests from the Chinese Government to hand over data collected in China. Another section of the memo alleges that purchases of vineyards in an area of California by Chinese companies following a large family-owned wine producer acquiring and using DJI drones was due to the companies being able to use the data collected by DJI for their own benefit. How much of these claims do you all believe and if so, are you going to put up any DJI products that you own? I would be more cautious myself about purchasing a DJI drone, however am unsure how much difference that would truly make... Anybody know a good Canadian or US drone manufacturer so my data is only going to the NSA?

So yesterday our government revealed, that they are going to introduce pilot license and registrations for drones. Drones which weigh under 250 grams(around 9oz) and can't reach altitude of 150m(around 500 feet) can be used without license outside of public places(parks, stadiums and so on). The course for the license will be 250 euros(around $280 atm, minimum salary here is 210 euros($233)) and will be held in the Bulgarian academy of science's institute for cosmic research. So my question is - what are the laws in other countries for this?

Hello LTT forum. I request your assistance. I've been looking towards building a fully custom quadcopter (eventually hoping to turn it into a drone) for my Grade 12 Engineering Summative project. We get a small budget withstanding some certain items and well long story short, I couldn't afford brushless motors and ESC's for this build. My plan is to use lightweight good DC motors with L298N motor shields and just kinda duck my head and move on (it doesn't need to be amazing, it just needs to work.) So some motors that i've seen in action are the motors on the Syma X8G. These are the one's I was hoping to use. Here's an aliexpress link Motor Link So my problem is here. I don't know anything about them other than they spin. The tech specs are nowhere to be found. No rpm's, voltages, anything and with such a limited budget, i can't order a part that won't work. If anyone here has any info or knows any info or knows any suitable replacements for lifting this frame here Frame Link then please let me know. I plan on using a GY-88 IMU and an Arduino for the flight controller. TL:DR -Building Drone and low budget -Need Specs for this motor Motor Link -making this frame Frame Link -Or give part recommendations for DC motor that works and props

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jul/25/amazon-to-test-drone-delivery-uk-government?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=fb_a-technology_b-gdntech Interesting news, especially considering the restrictions commercial drones are put under in the US. It seems like a lot of tech companies are looking to the UK for their drone R&D. For instance Facebook's new solar drone that was in the news last week is developed and built in the UK.

Src: http://www.theverge.com/a/mark-zuckerberg-future-of-facebook/aquila-drone-internet Facebook has successfully launched its first drone aircraft that they one day hope will be a solar-powered internet provider for people on the edges of cities or in more rural areas. TL;DR: Facebook is actively trying to build an internet-providing plane by allowing access to those that don't have internet access, Facebook can increase its user count The drones (in theory) could fly for 90 days at a time. The test flight was 90 minutes (originally estimated to be 30 minutes). Current drone has a wingspan of 141 feet, and weighs 900 lbs. It is currently powered by batteries only. Future iterations will add solar panels and better batteries. Internet access will be provided by laser communication in the "tens of gigabytes per second" range. The drone could communicate with base stations providing service for up to 50 km. You may remember Facebook announcing something like this before with the intent to launch internet to places like India but was shot down for net neutrality reasons. My 2c: I still think remote internet access is a fantastic thing. Im glad that Facebook (at least implies) the internet wouldn't be a locked down... but we'll see what actually happens. The thought of unmanned drones randomly falling out of the sky still scares me.
