I was gifted a laptop. I got a brand new free battery from Dell & bought a WD_Black SN770 1TB Gaming SSD. Now I want to leave Windows on the HDD but play all games from the SSD. A game I play is 'Football Manager 24' which pulls graphic data from the documents folder like player faces, team kits & club badges. My question is - How do I keep Windows on the HDD but move all other folders like documents, to the SSD? I know how to move/install Steam games to SSD just the folders. Will I need to move Windows via a clone? Clean install windows? Or is there a way to move folders?

So i have a 2 TB HHD. This drive has been in use for the last 3-4 years. I can not remember if i had important documents on it anymore. Is there a good way i could get all files in a list then sort them by type so i could do that one at a time?

So about a month ago I built my first pc which has a 256gb ssd and a 3tb hard drive in raid one with another one. I installed windows and everything on my ssd but that means that all of the libraries were also be stored there including the photos and documents etc. I wanted to move them off my ssd into my hard drives. The reason I wanted to move them was because I wanted to back up my iphone and to export its photos into the photos app on my desktop. I know how to do this but my ssd wouldn't have enough space if I did so I needed to move the photos application off the ssd. I did this by right clicking photos for example, then I went to the properties and then the location then changed it so that it went to my hard drive. I did this to all my library except for the documents and one drive. I have two things that went wrong when moving them. Firstly, now when I open the photos application it tells me that I need to add photos which I know used to work before I moved it. I prompts me to tell it where to find them, and when I do that it then tells me that there are no readable files or folders there, which I know used to work. Secondly in the process of moving the contacts I managed to replace my entire folder with the contacts folder so now all of my library contents are within the contacts folder itself.I read into restoring windows to default which would reset windows and that it would actually keep all of my files, but I am worried that it might still lose them which would be pretty bad as it already doesn't know what it is.I am extremely lost and could really use some help. Thanks in advance!

This was few months ago, don't mind the text in the video, this was from another issue. And this is now: You definitely can see the difference, the os is installed on a 250gb Samsung SSD. Sometimes I don't understand windows 10... Few days ago I have accidentally deleted appdata folder which contained about 20gb of data, maybe that is the cause of this issue? Please help, windows 10 is driving me nuts... Edit: On reddit some person said that deleting appdata folder can mess up windows, so what I did is I just installed a 1703 (15063.138) version of windows and the problem remains the same. What's interesting is that before I had deleted that appdata folder I had Internet explorer on my windows and when that folder got deleted I noticed that I have Edge now, so maybe somehow, someway windows got updated, I have no idea, can somebody smarter than me explain me what's going on?

Noob here. Managed to tangle "This PC" folders pretty bad while trying to move their location to my HDD(C:) from SSD(C:). I have 2 Video folders, none of which opens. "Location is not available". My Documents folder is named D:\ and is a direct shortcut to the HDD, while it displays the typical Documents icon. Going in to properties doesn't help since it recognizes the folder as HDD shortcut, and takes me to the HDD's properties. Under C:/users/myname there are a couple of files missing. Documents, contacts and desktop. Not sure on how to get them back.

Back when I first built my PC, I rerouted my documents, music, videos, pictures, and downloads folders to my hard drive (D:) instead of having them on my SSD (C:). I made a subfolder in D entitled "my libraries" and the target locations read as so: D:\My Libraries\Documents D:\My Libraries\Music etc Since then, a power surge has potentially taken the life of my hard drive. I'm currently waiting on a "friend of a friend" to give me a quote on a repair. In the meantime, if I reroute the folders onto another hard drive with a different assigned letter (E:), would that have any effect on the files saved on the D: drive if I get it fixed? In other words, if I move the folder target locations onto E and later down the line get D back, will the files on D still be in tact and will I just be able to take the files from the E library folders, plop them onto D, and resume business as usual? The answer may be obvious and the question a bit meaningless, but I'm just wanting to be safe. Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a cheap laptop for my dad who is planning on using it to watch videos and run programs like Word and Powerpoint. Definitely cheaper is better but an SSD for boot drive would be preferred (although I know it will up the price). Living in Canada on a budget of about 300-400 dollars. Thanks again guys

Hey all, LONG time LTT subscriber, first time Forum user and post. I am a design engineer and CAD manager working remote out of my home office. I need to upgrade my Samsung LS29E790CNS/ZA 27" 1080p ultrawide to something substantially better for my use case. I am not a gamer so some of the high end displays probably have TOO much to offer. My focus is in the quality of the image (specifically for vectors, line work, texts and then basic 3D rendering), productivity and quality of life. I am finding it very hard to select a reasonably priced (not the cheapest and certainly not the most expensive) option to look at as I feel less than knowledgeable on all the features and panel types. Can someone make some solid recommendations? Just remember that I prefer my setup to be usb-c / thunderbolt 3 based as I am often grabbing my laptop to travel. My specs: Lenovo P52 Xeon with Quadro P2000 Primary apps: AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Excel, PhotoShop. If you think I need to provide more info for a better recommendation, just let me know.

So I have 2 storage devices an 2T HDD and a 120gb SSD in my rig. When I built the PC I of course installed windows on my SSD for faster boot time and what not, but now my pc used my SSD as my primary storage source. Of course I want to keep my "important files (windows and everything attached to it)" to stay on it. How do I make my HDD the primary storage device without messing everything up? So, 1- make hdd primary device on my computer (file downloads and such) 2- transfer documents from sdd to hdd + keep windows and steam games on ssd for faster boot times and load up times Much help needed, Thanks

Hi guys, I am looking for 2 or 4 bay NAS solution, I don't need anything special like video streaming/encoding or high capacity disk support, I need max 2tb storage with raid 1 or 6 . It would be mission critical for customer's workshop storage. I've seen qnap ts-451a and synology DS918+, Synology is 30% more expensive, is it worth it ? https://www.synology.com/pl-pl/products/DS918+ https://www.qnap.com/en/product/ts-451a

Good Day to you, I have a rig at home for my heavy tasks as well as for gaming, however at the moment I spend much of my time at school and doing researches for my studies there. I do not have a laptop and it has been very hard for me since I would have to rely on my group members with laptops. This makes me dead weight most of the time especially since there is no need for two individuals to use a single laptop. That is why I am looking to purchase a laptop solely for the following purpose and with the following criteria: somewhat comfortable typing experience responsive ( Some of my peers have laptops for the same purpose as me that cheap out too much, really slow) decent chassis Does not slow down when having multiple tabs (***Chrome ) open and constantly switching through browsers and multiple word files. I probably won't use the speakers, I have my phone if I want to listen to music and I only stream at home. TL:DR I need a laptop just for making my research that won't make me want to throw it away when I have multiple apps open (chrome is probably the most demanding app I'll use for this case). As for the budget, as much as possible I'd like to keep it at $250 max. Anyways, Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

After buying a 1TB HDD to go along with my 120GB SSD, I decided to move all of my library folders to my HDD to save space on my SSD. However, during the process, my Documents library has been deleted and replaced with my Desktop library. The files are identical and if I delete one file from one location, it deletes it on the other. How can I get my documents folder back? I had no data so I don't care about that. I have no restore points and changing the file location does nothing either. Any answers would be much appreciated, so thanks in advance.

I need help guys. This is the first time this happen to me. So I recently woke up to find out that most if not all of my documents are gone. All of my essay, pdf, powerpoint, notepad, excel, folders and other important documents are gone. I'm pretty sure I didn't accidently deleted them all or move them, pretty sure my computer weren't affected by viruses, no one went on my computer. So idk how it happen. Last thing I remember was doing a ccleaner, antivirus scan, malwarebyte scan, glary utilities 5 scan b4 I went to sleep. Not sure if those have anything to do with the disappearance of my document. Maybe the scanner accidently placed my document in the recycling bin and then another deleted it? But i've done that so many time and didn't have any problem till now. I really need help retrieving my documents. Yes I didn't back up my files stupid of me. But at the same time I don't want this to happen to me again in the future, so if must I want to avoid it. If someone can help me out that would be appreciated.

I am just going to copy and paste what I posted on overclock.net because you guys seem to be a little more knowledgeable and responsive. But the message is pretty much the exact same. To start, my dad lost his leg when he was 17 from a drunk driver. He is 61 now and he can no longer wear the $100,000 fake leg (insurance FTW). So he uses a nice hot rod of a wheelchair to get around and he crawls up and down the steps. It is harder on him to crawl up and down the steps these days. Therefore, he has 3 computers (1 in his room, 1 in the living room, and 1 in the basement) He does financial work and photoshop on the computers. I have a Synology NAS set up on the router and I taught him how to drag files to the cloudstation app, but here's the thing, each file gets numbered because he names them all the same thing and then I have to ask him which one he wants me to overwrite. So basically his files are "HomeFinance1 (1)" "HomeFinance1 (2)" and "HomeFinance2 (1)" and he gets confused as to which ones to use. So I still have to do the work and I just spent nearly $300 on a Diskstation for him that he can't use. Another problem we ran into was that he accidentally overwrote a photoshopped picture of my little niece. The sun was behind her in the photo and he dimmed the sun and edited the lighting. It took him a few hours to do because he is a perfectionist. He saved it in his cloudstation app. He then forgot he saved it and he clicked on the picture on the desktop of his basement computer and overwrote the edited picture accidentally. This sort of crap happens ALL THE TIME with him. He is getting frustrated and so am I. I think there needs to be something that syncs everything between computers. From the desktop icons and backgrounds to "my documents" and auto-syncs the latest one between computers. That way, people who use multiple computers (for example, a computer at work and a computer at home) can have the same set up and the same documents. That could end the confusion as to which document to use. And if anything goes wrong, like if you didn't want to sync a certain file, it creates 5 days worth of backup copies on both computers of everything that it syncs (or however many days or syncs you want). And this idea isn't too complicated to set up I think. The only thing you will be saving is documents, maybe some gamesaves, photos, desktop configurations, and other little filetypes. Or you can pick and choose what to sync between computers. I don't know how to actually perform this idea because I know nothing about programming, but I am sure that there is someone out there who is looking for a good idea to start work on. And I honestly believe there is a market for this because there are many households with multiple computers. Do you guys know of any way to help him with this?
