  1. I manage a building that sublets individual offices to business people. They pay us something like $0.10 for each copy/fax/print/etc. I used to have I think it was a very old Brother brand machine that had the ability for the users to put in a 4 digit code and then they could print, copy, fax, scan, whatever. We could then run a report at the end of each month and determine who used however many pages of each service and charge them accordingly. That old machine died awhile back and I wasn't aware they were using said feature until a few months later. Needless to say I disposed of that old machine and all documentation with it. I need to find a new machine that has what I can only think to explain is a "billing profile" but even my google searches are not helping. Can anyone advise if "billing profile" is what I should be searching and/or if they know of some machines that would meet this requirement? Also, the other requirements are this is for about 10 people so I don't need a machine that costs several thousands of dollars. The budget is probably around $400 but could be up to say $800 if I had to given the annual revenue from last year was I think in the $400-600 range.
  2. Please read for full context but TL:DR: Cut-Pasted files from one drive to another. Target drive now missing most folders and is repoting to have way more free space than it should have, pretty much meaning that those folder are genuinely deleted. Target drive is now called what the source drive was called. This was a standard Cut-Paste operation through Tera Copy, not a clone. Source drive seems more or less fine but it reports 790GB of used space when checking via Properties yet selecting all folders and copying them to another drive results in only 468GB of data. There also is a massive folder missing. No guaranteee that I didn't remove that manually, though. --- I have a drive on which I store all my Downloads, Pictures, Documents, Videos and Music. By that I mean that I use those folder as my default Windows directories for such files. There also is a Other Files, Programs and Games folder on it. Other Files simply contains stuff like .iso, .dmg, .exe and, well, other files. I try to install all of my programs into the Programs folder and the Games folder is home to some standalone DRM-free games and also the install location of my Steam instance (my actual Steam libraries are on different drives). All of those folders are at the root of the drive. --- Now, I recently ran out of space on the 1TB 970 Evo and got me a 2TB 970 Evo Plus. Just like I did when I upgraded to the 1TB 970 Evo from my old 500GB 960 Evo, I just copy pasted and veryfied all folders via TeraCopy. This pretty much worked as per usual but it also resulted in a different folder and file count on the target drive. While this is pretty normal for simple Copy-Paste of large amounts of files, I hung onto the original files on the 1TB 970 Evo and didn't format it right away, just in case that I wanted to manually check everything. --- Now I've been using the new 2TB drive since around November 24th as my main drive without issues. I gave it the old drive letter Y and the 1TB 970 Evo the letter A to have it be in front of my boot drive so that there is no chance of confusing the two. As for drive names, I just call the 970 Evo and 970 Evo Plus. So they were 970 Evo (A:) and 970 Evo Plus (Y:). All current letters in my system: (A:) (C:) (D:) (E:) (V:) (Q:) (Z:) --- Now to the actual issue: Today, I decided to finally do something about the "unnecessary" and now somewhat outdated copy of my drive (1TB 970 Evo (A:)). That 'something' was to just select all folders and CUT-Paste it onto the 2TB 970 Evo Plus, the drive that was currently in use. Doing something like that has never really caused me any issues up until now, to be fair. But yeah, considering that I also have almost all of my programs installed to that drive, this certainly could have caused issues for them. What actually happened is far worse, though... I once again used TeraCopy and let it run for a bit. The "Skip All" option was selected. --- I only let it run until around 0.3% were completed and then stopped it because WHY THE FUCK WOULD I NOT WANT A BACKUP, RIGHT? It had transfered around 56000 files if I remember correctly but I assume that those are just tiny, not too relevant program related files. As I didn't let it run for particularly long, maybe 1-3 minutes, there was no way that it moved or deleted a lot of stuff. Anyway, afterwards I just turned off my system and took out my old 1TB 970 Evo and replaced it with another 2TB 970 Evo Plus I had bought at the same time as the first one. Upon boot, I noticed that the system still showed the old 970 Evo with the (A:) drive letter. And what this resulted in is just inexplicable to me. The drive, ONTO which the folders were supposed to be pasted, was missing folders! Like the Programs folder, it was completely gone! I only noticed that when trying to open a program. I restarted the system and let the disk check (the one that comes up while booting) run. Now, suddenly, even more folders are gone and the Programs folder reappered and appears to be perfectly functional. All programs that I have tested run fine. But I now have 1.55TB of 1.81TB free, which is not how it should be. This is 265GB used. I do not remember how much used and free space was reported right after the Cut-Paste operation. And another thing, the 2TB 970 Evo Plus is now called 970 Evo! It was called 970 Evo Plus, guaranteed! As for the 1TB 970, it seems fine and fucked at the same time. It reports 790GB free via Properties which could very well be a correct value as I had relocated a big folder when I ran out of space. It was 113GB large. However, when selecting all folders and checking their size via Properties, it only reports 468GB of data. Copy-pasting them with Tera-Copy only detects 470GB. Oh, and the entire Games Folder is missing. The one that my Steam install resides in. Not sure if I took that thing off of htis drive manually, though. I might have and remember something along those lines regarding that folder but I just cannot understand why I would have done that. That was a pretty massive folder, too. --- Moral of the story that I even had been taught before; Always make backups... My last one was around a year ago, and due to not much having changed in my Games folder I can find out its approximate size. Maybe it makes up all of the missing data, I don't know. I just hope that nothing is corrupted. But still, can anyone please help me in finding out what happened or on how to fix it? I would greatly appreciate it!
  3. hey community I was wandering if anyone could help me out here. things are like this: I have a SSD into my computer which has all my data and my OS. I want to add another SSD and move all my data to it including my OS and then delete all the contents of the old one. basically I want to copy and paste the old ssd onto the new one. and then format the old one so I can use it as a game and data drive. what program can be used to do this and how?
  4. 5. So my father passed away recently. He has a computer that obviously we don't want to just keep sitting but I want to back up his stuff to a portable hardrive. I would like to do it as a partition copy so I can boot the whole system as it was to make sure no data files or even saved passwords are lost. The problem is he has multiple systems and drive with both Windows and Ubuntu OS included. Can anyone recommend something for backing up everything to a single drive and still have it all bootable?
  6. I'm trying to copy a 29 GB folder to another drive. When I try, it gets 90% complete and starts warning me of 'filename too long' and I can either skip the file to be copied or abort the copy of ALL the files, so I select 'skip all'. When completed I noticed 1,820 files, 263 folders which is 2 GB of files that would not be allowed to copy because the filename was 'too long' Can someone give me a few workarounds for this problem? Is there a way to search a folder for a certain filename size and then mark it or have it renamed to something shorter? Or is there a setting in Windows 10 HOME? The registry? Software to do this? This is painful…not physically but to my brain. Thanks.
  7. Hello everyone, this is my first real post here, I dont really understand how these forums work so please go easy on me if i did something wrong. Lets get onto the topic at hand. I had a problem at hand where i needed a way to back up world files of games, namely minecraft, but also wanted it for valhiem. I had this problem where my Minecraft world got corrupted and anything i did, just didnt work. I also had a problem with valhiem where the world suddenly "reset" to an earlier save from waaay back. These things keep happening and i guess they will keep happening. I wanted the ability to go back to any save folder for any reason. My requirements that I listed for this "thing" to do: Create a folder and give it a specific name along with todays date i.e: "MRG 6-24-22" in a specific location, Copy the world folder and paste it into that same folder. Do this anytime automatically, i am a huge fan of automation, I am super lazy, thats all. Now with these things at hand, i started researching back up options. They were all too complicated and didnt make sense for my lazy brain. went to reddit for some help with this specific task. all i basically got was "someone somewhere out there already did that, find em." tHaT wAs sUpEr hElPfUlL. Then shortly after, i found out about robocopy and that u can batch script it which means u can run it with windows task scheduler!!! i had found the solution to my problem. But i had NO IDEA how it worked, and i while i could follow along with a tutorial, i had no idea what i was doing. cause when i tried to run it on my own, it just refused to work. and when it did work it would just copy the folders, so id literally have a massive empty folder full of empty folders, or all the files without the folders. Anyway, I gave up and shelved the project for a year or so, till last week. Before last week i was manually copying the world files of the Minecraft server i was running for me and friends. every two days i would do exactly what i said myself. Until in the minecraft world, i accidentally blew up a massive portion of our stuff. The latest save?? two days ago, I had just done so much grinding in those two days. PAIN. Anyway, fed up with eveything I dusted off the project and took another look. long story short after about a whole day messing around with robocopy, learning the different thing its capable of, i finally created the very tool i had been dying to have. i am here to share it with anyone in the same predicament as me. \ / Anyway, lets get to the point, the script i used is actually very simple its basically: robocopy "(Source Folder Pathway)" "(Destination folder Pathway)\(Name) %date:~-10,2%"-"%date:~7,2%"-"%date:~-4,4%\world" /e /MT:16 /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ Initiate the tool. The stuff u want to copy. Where to paste it. Create a new folder with this name. Use this to get todays date. Arguments I need to say that i am assuming you will be running this on a system that runs constantly, it wont work if your system is asleep i guess? it didnt work on my laptop while it was asleep. i have a seperate machine just call "server" that runs my Minecraft server and this script. Anyway, i encourage you to mess with robocopy and learn to really understand it better cause i dont feel like ill do good enough in explaining it. But most of the stuff is self explanatory, use my pictures for implementation reference to know how i set it up and used windows task scheduler. Ill explain the more difficult things i hard the hardest time with, starting with getting the date to be printed in the file name, just copy this tbh cause i have no idea what it means but it works lol: %date:~-10,2%"-"%date:~7,2%"-"%date:~-4,4%. When putting in your file pathways, if any names have spaces, put quotations around the entire path (refer to my example), or always put quotations just to be safe cause i cant be bothered to check for spaces. the arguments i used are very simple: /e just means copy everything, im not sure why this isnt the default but whatever. MT:16 is multithreading with your specified amount of threads, use as many threads your computer has available to get the job done faster, without this argument, i believe it just copies one at a time, but with MT, it will do that many simultaneously. if u just put "/MT" it will default to 4 threads (i think). I have an i9 9900K, 8 cores 16 threads. I just noticed that its supposed to be 16 threads and in my picture its 18 threads, i have been running that for a few days with no issue, but i just went back and changed it. you can have robocopy create a file with a desired name if you add extra paths that dont actually exist, for example: You want to paste your source contents into a file on your desktop folder named "Backups" but you dont want to dump all the folders into backup, u want them in a single folder named "BigBoy" to oragnize better, just add "\Bigboy" at the end of your whole pathway. I.e: C:\Users\19167\Desktop\BackUps\BigBoy. Then it will put all your files in that new folders. Saying this cause i wish someone told me u can do this earlier to save me hours of trying to script a whole new batch that would create a new folder and name it for the robocopy to dump into the latest folder. and tbh i dont even know if thats possible but it doesn't matter now. You normally run this in CMD but i have no idea how to automate that so instead just create a notepad, type up your script, go to save as, where you name the folder, at the end of the name type ".bat" to make it an executable. double click to test run your new invention. Dont kill your computer with your newly built virus lol jkjk jk. And thats about it, robocopy has many other functions other than this, for example, you can keep just one back up of the world thats constantly updated whenever u want. Also i forgot to mention that i also have the windows scheduler run the script every hour which means its saved every hour to the most current folder till its the next day, then it makes a new folder for the new day and does the same. All of this is 2AM babble basically so i apologies if stuff doesnt make sense, just ask and i will clarify. i needed to get this out now or i wont ever do it. Also i did this to help those that have my same problem cause this is what i wanted others to do when i was struggling to figure all of this out.
  8. Is it me or have Acer copied the Lenovo Yoga lineup?
  9. so im not sure really where to put this, also i dont normally post on here so im not sure on really what to do At home we have our own home theatre that we built with an actual projector and so on *Photos taken by me* and recently i set up one of my old desktops to use as a plex server and a file server (dont worry i have got that all sorted out fine). i heard linus say something about copying all his blurays onto his media server so he doesant have to fumble around with discs. and that got me thinking about doing the same thing, we have about 100 or so blurays in the cupboard and my question is how can i copy/rip (not sure what to call it) the blurays onto my media server wihtout loosing any quality so i can stream it through my plex server? i know there is the route of torrenting them but we support the film industry and would rather buy them so we can get the best quality, i do admit to downloading a few movies (only like 3 becasue i couldnt wait for the bluray) but i dont really like to do that. (and i cant do that now anyway since those sites have been blocked in australia) so im woundering is there a way to copy them onto my hard drive for my plex server. TL;DR Im wanting to know how to copy my blurays discs to a file without loosing any quality so i can watch them in my home theatre without swapping discs everytime, and to stream on my plex server.
  10. need some help, i want to copy my bluray disks onto my computer into a format that i can easily use such as mp4, so i can watch them over my network or on my laptop without having to carry disks, dose anyone have any ideas of the best software to use??
  11. I've got 2 2TB barracudas and i want to have one folder in my main drive copy itself onto the my secondary HDD automatically, f.e. every time i change the document on main drive it should change the document on secondary drive or check for differences every 1 hr or so and update accordingly. What's my best choice of software in this situation? it's quite a simple task i would say and should not require anything fancy, a good user interface of couse is favored.
  12. I just bought a 1TB SSD for my pc, meaning to fully replace my current 700GB hard disc. I have a SATA3 6Gbs cable too. I'm using a desktop, and Windows 10. I've searched for a while but can't find out how to migrate all my data from my disc to my SSD properly. I'm unsure how I should hook up my new SSD physically, and what software I should be using to migrate my data. Free software is certainly preferable. If someone could link me a guide, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Hi, I'm building myself a new PC, and I'm selling my old one to a friend. I don't feel like wiping my drive and selling it to him because I'd have to download everything on a brand new drive, and my internet is deathly slow. Anyway, I'm trying to have to save him about $90-$100 for Windows 10. Is it possible to clone or copy my OS to his new drive? -Thanks, A curious gamer
  14. Ahoyhoy, I need to make a copy of 80gb HDD (which has the OS and all) to a new 120gb SSD, to replace it as a boot drive for an old pc, what is the best way to do it/what program do I use? Cheers, Hugh
  15. Hey, I am new to this forum, so if this is in the wrong section please move it. I recently noticed very meh transfer speeds over my LAN. My example: I recently sorted my music and synchronized the folders. I used the synchronize option of FileMenue Tools for it (but whenever I move other files via TeraCopy it is pretty similar). I copied the files from my Notebook via GB Ethernet (Realtek) to my PC (same). The LAN Adapters showed a usage of about 400MBit max, but rather about 200Mbit most of the time. My CPUs are both max. 20% used and the HDD I am copying onto is max. 50% used. The SSD I copy from is sitting at 20% max. usage. I do not see any real bottleneck. So do you have any idea why this occurs? I think I am going to try different filesizes and different storages next (HDD->HDD, SSD->SSD, mixed and so on), but I wanted to know, if any of you might now any plausible cause. FYI: PC HW: i7 3770k @ 4,5GHz on ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 w/ 16GB DDR3-1800, HDD: WD RED 4TB. Laptop HW: i7 7700HQ in a Schenker Media 15 (basically a Clevo N85xx) w/ 16GB DDR4-2400, SSD: SanDisk 1TB PLUS. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Best regards Colin
  16. Hello, I started the journey of building my first pc two weeks ago, with the help of this community (thank you really much) I decided the road to take, what hardware to buy, how to approach this build. As the day passed and more parts were getting at my house I knew it was time to address my biggest fear, so I'm here once again, writing a post to ask for your help. HOW THE F**K DO YOU MIGRATE FROM ONE PC TO A NEW ONE? I want to transfer all my programs, all my propgrams settings, all my windows settings and of course all my data but that's the easiest part. Is there anything like there is Timemachine on mac? I'd want even my desktop icons to be in the same order, my start menu, everything. I have an external Hard drive to use. Help me please and thank you!!

  19. Okay. weird bug. All of the sudden while trying to set up a Teamspeak server, my clipboard is being replaced with C:\Users\adenr\AppData\Local\Temp\PRODUCT_NAME_UNKNOWN_CrashDumpPRODUCT_VERSION_MAJOR_UNKNOWN-PRODUCT_VERSION_MINOR_UNKNOWN-2018-11-09--20-06-13_.dmp instead of what i had copied and randomly will work, seemingly regardless of what app i am using. Any help?

  23. Hi, Just been checking out buying a All in one A3 & A4 printer, for my home office. 24. I use teracopy, it's popular but honestly I'm not impressed, had stability problems with it on my old Windows 7 PC, then again when I switched to Windows 10 and now on my new Windows 10 PC it still isn't as stable as I'd like it to be. I've googled stuff and looked at articles on the web but a lot of the software they mention seems to be out of development or the developer website looks unprofessional then that already puts me off the software. Heck I saw the word 'recored' on the easersoft website...and some list support for up to Windows 8 hence out of development as I said. I like that teracopy is a simple replacement for default Windows copy so I'd really like something like that with a simple interface that gives you more control too cuz some of the stuff I've seen on the web have terrible chunky interfaces that leave a lot to be desired.
  25. Hello, I´m looking for a PDF reader that would allow me to copy text from enclosed kinds of PFD forms. Normal copy/paste results in in gibberish. Other reasonable solutions would do aswell but the text cannot have like missing letters numbers or even our special letters like ěščřžýáíé (Czech is weird) Transforming it to some text format results in gibberish, missing words or other stuff. Solution would save me like 2 hours daily since its a huge part of my job. Thanks in advance :-) doc.pdf
