Hi, I'm looking for an SFF prebuilt that can deliver 75W through one PCIe x16 slot and 50W through another PCIe x16 slot, connected as x8 or x4. Does anyone know of a model off the top of their head? Optiplex 990 and 790 in SFF won't work. (see: attachment) Otherwise, I can't think of any other models with 2x PCIe x16 slots (it's okay if one is only connected via x4 or x8). The unit, without a GPU, shouldn't cost more than ~75€ used. My goal: CPU: 4C 8T min. turbo frequency: 3,8ghz RAM: 16GB GPU: 1x Nvidia Tesla M4 (50W via pcie) 1x Nvidia Tesla P4 (75W via pcie) form factor: as small as possible price: under 180€ What i was calculating with: M4 ~ 60€ P4 ~ 80€ pre build ~ 40€ Thanks in advance, Lenn

Hello, I work in electronics store and a client asked if he can leave so called "electro-trash" and because i basically take everything i can save from trash i said yes. What he came with was perfectly fine workstation HP Compaq Elite 8000CMT PC rocking: intel core 2 duo E8400 3GHz 4 Gigs of RAM in 2 sticks (2 free slots) 240gig Hard Drive with matching HP monitor and mouse/keyboard My question for you guys is what can i do in terms of upgrade to make it a low budget gaming PC for my kids room. For older titles and media stuff. It works decently with fresh install of Win 10 pro and replaced thermal compound. What i know i have to do: Add SSD boot drive Add GPU Add/Replace RAM Probably replace CPU What i don't know: What type of RAM should i go with What GPU i should use (One thing i noticed is i think the GPU will have to take all the power only from PCI bus as i didn't see any spare cables from PSU to additionally power the GPU) Which CPU to choose How not to go over PSU limitations How not to spend all that much money I'll be thankful for any and all advice. Best regards Sebastian

One of my HDD is not working. It is a 500 GB laptop hdd with Windows 10 pro running, that came with with HP Pavilion G6, used with 8 Gb RAM and Core i3 3rd Gen 1.88Ghz. Recently, that device showed a Display problem and I gave it for a repair. Currently, just wanted to switch to an old Compaq presario v3000 (which was in my house for a while) works perfect with windows 7 ultimate on Intel Centrino Duo with maximum 4 GB ram being, 320Gb hdd used. I want to use this Compaq laptop with my 500 GB hdd, but the hdd is not being found in the boot menu or the bios. What went wrong here?

Hello everyone. I have a really big dilema and I don't know what to do. So, here it goes. I've recently got my hands on a HP Compaq 6200 Pro SFF and I want to upgrade it and use it for office work and light gaming (E-Sports like Valorant, CS:GO, LoL and so on). [!] Current specs: Pentium G620 4 GB RAM 120 GB SSD no graphics card 240 W PSU (non-changeable). I already got an i5-2500 (after research, looks like it works fine with the PSU, correct if wrong) and 4 more gigs of RAM. The question is: which graphics card is best suited for this kind of PC (low profile card)? After some research (and within my budget), I was thinking of getting a R7 240 or a GT 1030. Any thoughts or suggestions? Any information is much appreciated. Thank you!

Is it possible to swap the i5-2400 cpu with an i5-3470 cpu without changing the motherboard on the HP compaq 8200? Something like a bios update? Does anyone know?

Hey all, I got a really weird/specific/technical question. Since I've been super bored lately I've been keeping myself busy by upgrading the hell out of an old HP Compaq Elite 8100 SFF prebuilt for fun. Gotta spend your tax return money somehow right? Anyways, here's the backstory. So after a lot of shopping on Ebay I finally got the thing max spec'd. 16GB RAM, Geforce GTX 1650 LP, 240GB SSD, and an Intel Xeon X3480. Bear with me, the important part of all this is the X3480. You see, HP lists the max CPU officially supported for this old guy as an i7-870, reasonable. However, after upgrading to the latest BIOS (v01.13 released in Q2 2011, after the release of the X3480) that's no longer the case. I guess HP decided to be very generous with this last BIOS update and whitelist ALL 95W LGA 1156 CPU's for this board, including Lynnfield-based Xeons apparently. There's technically no reason why the CPU shouldn't have worked, Q57 officially supports the X3480, but usually manufacturers lock you out of installing Xeons so you have to buy their more expensive workstations. Anyways let's continue, the performance of the X3480 is all well and good, but as a silicon-based Dr. Frankenstein, It's never enough. So I ordered the motherboard of an Elite 8200 prebuilt. Unsurprisingly, the 8100 and 8200 are basically the same machine save for the CPU platform it's built off of (8100 has the Q57 chipset, 8200 has Q67). So the 8200 motherboard drops right into the 8100 chassis, same onboard connectors, mounting points, voltage requirements, rear I/O, it's pretty much just the 8100 motherboard except it supports Sandy Bridge CPU's. So here's my question. If HP says that the max CPU supported for the 8200 is the i7-2600, and the latest BIOS update was in 2016, based off the 8100 Xeon upgrade, would it be too far-fetched to think I could get a Xeon E3-1290 running on the board? It's 32nm, Socket 1155, has a 95W TDP, all the same as the i7-2600 (of course this all hinges on HP allowing the thing to run in BIOS). Here's what has me convinced this might be possible, so the Intel Desktop Board DQ67SW, which has the reference Q67 chipset, officially supports the Xeon E3-1260L as per this link. This means the Q67 chipset is able to run Xeon part numbers. The board also officially supports the i7-2700K, a 95W part, which means Q67 has full 95W processor support. Official Xeon part number support + 95W TDP support = decent chance of E3-1290 support right? (again, all hinging on HP whitelisting the part #s) So here's what I have on the way right now, the 8200 motherboard, an i3-2100 to just get the board running so I can mess with the BIOS, a Xeon E3-1290, and a i7-2700K as a backup in case the Xeon doesn't play nice (inb4 the 2700K doesn't work either). I'll keep the thread updated until the project is finished, good or bad. See ya! (PS; would this mean that the E3-1290 could be called the i7-2700P? Since at the time P suffix processors meant their iGPUs were disabled and their base/boost clocks upped by 100MHz? Lmao just a thought)

I found an old Compaq PC and am wondering if it would even be possible to upgrade it or worth it. I'd love to be able to just throw some cheap parts into it and have a secondary PC to play low end games on. If not, is anything worth selling? Thanks for any help! Hello there, recently I just got a computer from a friend of mine to be fixed. However, among the many laptops and desktops I've fixed, this is proving to be a rather strange one.It is a Compaq Presario CQ42-304AU, full specification and details of it can be found here : https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c02520867Prior to receiving the laptop, my friend had told me it has issues where it cannot boot up, including the bios. When I got my hands on it, the error code based on the blinking lights of the Caps Lock key told me that it was CPU error. Opened it up, re-seated the CPU, applied fresh thermal paste while I'm at it and it still didn't work. I tried re-seating the CPU about 5 times but to no avail. However, while I was re-seating the CPU again and again, one of the times it actually booted into the bios. Told me no boot device as I have removed the HDD. Turned it off, placed the hard drive in and nope. Didn't boot anymore ever since. So my question is this. Is it truly the CPU issue as the computer says so? I have many experiences where when it cannot boot into the bios at all, the main causes are typically the motherboard; not the CPU. Therefore I was wondering, could it be the motherboard socket issue; ie, bad connection? An advice to whether should I replace the CPU or Motherboard would be nice.Things that I have done:-Re-seating and cleaning RAM-Re-seating the CPU about 5 times-Removed the battery and direct from power

i have a compaq presario 5600f that is only good for media collection. (basically when a drive on my daily driver laptop is full, i empty it on a 500gb hdd that is inside the presario). As well as a dell inspiron 560 that has truly seen better days and needs a new power supply,( the power supply has been accounted for, but hasn't been bought yet. so if anyone has recommendations on that, im all ears.) the presario came with a power supply from bestec, there's seems to be some vitriol towards the brand and i'm starting to see why. i have a 250gb hdd full of anime that i want to dump and i have nowhere to put it. please help.

So, a couple days ago, my grandmother gave me a Compaq Presario CQ5600F that she was given from job. The desktop uses a really bad "AMD Athlon 170u processing chip", and a terrible " nVidia GeForce 6150SE" integrated graphics chip with 2gb of ddr2 ram. The paltry strength of the cpu and gpu is palpable since ive used 90's celeron and early 2000's pentium cpus both having awful integrated gpus. The real issue, is that the desktop only comes with ethernet and and not wifi. i cant use ethernet mainly because i dont like ethernet and the router is in my parents room and i dont have the money to invest "insert length of ethernet cable long enough to reach my desktop. It might also end being a fire hazard, the last on might be a bit hyperbolic. I was hoping to find anything that would tell me if there's any place i can go to to buy a wifi chip or if its even possible to install a wifi chip on a motherboard this old. Here's a link to the speclist for those that are interested: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02481299

Hello, I've been wanting to build a PC for as cheap as I could. I found used HP Compaq 8200 SFF (i5-2400,8GB RAM) and HP Compaq Pro 6300 MicroTower (i5-3570,8GB RAM) for 100$ each. Now I would like to put something like GTX 950/1050/1050 Ti or RX 560 in it (as long as it doesn't need an external power from PSU). PSU is not upgradeable unless you order special ones made from HP. Has anyone tried putting this GPUs in this PC and what would be the problems? I've read that maximum power that PCIE slots on this mobos can draw is 25/35W but then again I can see alot of this builds made on the internet and they say everything is working smoothly. Every reply is helpful, thanks.

I found my first computer (Compaq Presario 425) in my parent's basement the other day and noticed this cool cyclops guy on the motherboard. Is this some kind of logo or some random circuit board graffiti? Sorry for the poor image quality, I was in a dark basement and the inside of the computer was disgusting. I guess dust gets a bit grimy in a damp basement after 22 years.

Hello All, First of all, I received all of this for free other than the DL360 G6 that's still on the way. Now onto the question, I have these old Compaq devices I want to use with my server (The DL360 thats on the way) I know one device is the MSA30 (Image 0-2) I have no idea what the other one is (image 3 and 4). Now to hook then up I know I need a SCSI card for my server, (I am getting the HP StorageWorks U320e SCSI Dual Channel Host Bus Adapter AH627A). My Questions are, 1. what cable do I use to hook up the devices to the DL360 G6 sever (I know SCSI but what kind?) and also what is that second device and how does it work. If any more information is needed just ask me and I'll be happy to provide any more information I have.
