Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I have a headache, yea I have excuses. Anyway, I noticed my hotspot (GPU #2) on my current GPU is incredibly hot on load 90-93c. Temp #1, (main package) stays sub 80 on load. My GPU has copper coiling like a pipe. Could my 'hotspot 2' just be pinging the pipe temperature? I just want to know because I'm not a fan of pipes that stick out and don't want to buy a new GPU with the chance of getting coil whine as well. Thankx

Im not sure if its from the PSU or graphics card, But its freaking me out, Its only there under load, and gets louder as the GPU begins to be under load. Ignore the fans, and listen for the eletrical noise. The graphics card is a gtx 1060 3gb, from evga i think. Is it coil whine? Or is it something else? Should i replace it? or is it fine to keep it for another few years?

Hey guys I hope you'll be able to shine a light on my issue, So recently my pc started making a high pitch/static/interference noise that is pretty much constant (unlike coil whine I think which the sounds seems to "fluctuate" from example I tried to listen to online). It seems to have started after I had a BSOD while in game, which was pretty wierd since i'm on an almost brand new top of the line pc and wasn't playing a demanding game (deux ex human revolution, but I was playing via gamestream/moonlight from my pc to my living room tv). After multiple test with a mic and headphones I determined that the sound was coming from the GPU (still not 100% sure but pretty close to that) and only happens in certain games but not all. The most obvious one being hitman 3 with the noise starting as soon as the game starts and stopping when I alt tab the game. i also tried f1 2019 and the noise only happen when i'm in gameplay, in the menu, unlike hitman 3, it doesn't happen. Strangely it doesn't happen in gameplay in human revolution. Every benchmark I've tested so far doesn't make the noise happen, msi kombustor, 3dmark, occt, cinebench. It doesn't seems to happen in VR either with a Rift S (but I'll have to test some more games to be sure) here's a little video I made where you can hear the noise : My specs : i9 12900k z690 aorus pro 32gb ram ddr5 and a gigabyte RTX 3080 gaming oc that I bought last year, and I've actually been mining on it on the side when I'm not using the PC (I guess that could be the source of the problem, but the noise doesn't happen when mining, and i'm 95% sure the noise was not there when the card was in my old pc and neither could I hear it on this new pc until like 3 days ago.) not sure if this matter too but the screen I game on is a Aorus ad27q some info about my pc crash : CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101) An expected clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor in an MP system within the allocated interval. This indicates that the specified processor is hung and not processing interrupts. Arguments: Arg1: 0000000000000008, Clock interrupt time out interval in nominal clock ticks. Arg2: 0000000000000000, 0. Arg3: ffffde8080879180, The PRCB address of the hung processor. Arg4: 0000000000000010, The index of the hung processor. So is it coil whine ? If it is, i guess there's nothing I can do, and it's not supposed to be dangerous right, just have to learn to live with it? And if it's not coil whine, what is it, early sign of my card failing? Thanks guys!

Hi, My desktop started to make this noise noise.m4a today, which start when I open a game and instantly stop when the game closes. I'm not sure which component makes the noise, but my GPU is a gtx 1080 strix and my PSU is a Corsair TXM Gold 650 W 80+. These two components are about 4 years old and have never had an issue with them before. The rest of the PC is new components from January. I read that it might be coil whine? Should I be worried of my GPU or PSU dying on me soon?

My new 3070ti started making this noise today when running anything with nvenc or RTX (see video). I’m pretty sure it’s coil whine but it would be reassuring to get confirmation from people who have experienced it before. This sounds a bit deeper than the videos I’ve seen from similar cards with whine. If it is just whine I can push the PC away from my monitors and wear noise cancelling headphones when gaming if the supplier won’t RMA it. (It’s pretty loud in-person) That’s me loading up menus in Cyberpunk to stop/start the noise quickly. Thanks! IMG_0887.MOV

Hello guys, I would like to buy a gtx 1070 which one of them has the lowest chance of getting coil whine? I heard pretty bad stuff about MSI and Gigabyte models.
-
I really do want to get the nano, but i am worried about the possibility of coil whine. How likely is it to appear, and is it "fixable" or able to be tuned down?
-
Okay, so, I've gotton myself a nice upgrade, a Gigabyte Gaming 1 1060 6gb. Although there is one problem with it, whenever I load a game it coil whines. I know the obvious solution is 'just enable v sync' yea that doesn't work... I've contacted the store I've got it from and they've offered me an RMA. My question is that is there even any point in an RMA or will they just send me back another whin-y card?

Hi, a few days ago i endend my mini-itx build based on an i5 7600 + hyper 212 evo MSI b250 Wifi Corsair CX550M MSI 480Gtx I built this pc to be dead silent "at least when not gaming" and i'm kinda satisfied about that, despite a low constant and annoying noise. I'm not sure where it's coming from, seems the motheboard under the gpu, or the gpu itself "but i removed the supply from the gpu w/out difference and i don't think that the pci lane can provied enought fuel to make that noise". This is not coil whine, it's not a high pitched noise, it's low, like an old buzzing lamp "Like this but much more quiter and slower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s468L88Y2Y Is there something i can do ? This build could be dead silent except for this noise that's driving me crazy :C

Hello dear reader, I've decided to build a small DC tesla coil as my next project (not HVDC). Now the problem is, I cannot find decent / reliable information regarding this subject. Most of the tutorials are made just for that radius X with X many winds and "that voltage" .. you get the point. Basically I was planning on using 32V / 1.5 A power supply, 200 meters of this wire and wind it around ⌀5cm (~ ⌀2 inch) & 20cm (7.8 inch) long pipe. I've got no idea about the thickness and amount of winds that should be used on the primary nor the circuitry (what transistors / capacitors etc. to use), or schematic for that matter. So if you have any experience & are willing to help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Cheers!

Hello, this is my first time posting here, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong section. So I build my own gaming PC and I've been using it for some months now, but recently I noticed a weird static noise coming from my PSU, I'm certain it's the PSU because I ruled out the video card and the CPU fan.the noise starts whenever I play a demanding game or I have to much stuff going on my computer.a little fix that I found is to set my power options to "balanced" instead of "high performance", but using balanced lowers the performance on almost every game.I'm using an EVGA 500W.here you can hear clearly the sound I'm talking about when I'm in the high-performance option: https://clyp.it/k1uuem1land just for reference this is when I'm using the balanced one: https://clyp.it/kcidmrdi I'll leave the sounds attached to the topic in case any of the links expiresMy biggest concern right now is to confirm this is indeed coil whine and not something more dangerous to my computer, I'm still changing the PSU when I get paid, but that's still a whole month away, I just want to know If I can relax until then and still play video games like usual or should I be careful until I get a new PSU.Thanks in advance for any help, sorry again if this is the wrong place. sound .mp3 nothing.mp3

So, I've recently set up an ITX office pc with the following specs; ASRock H81M ITX Intel Core i5-4590T (2ghz base 3ghz turbo, 35w) 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz C11 1.35v DDR3L RAM 240GB Intel 530 series SSD 120w picoPSU My issue is at idle there is super loud awful coil whine coming from the motherboard VRMs, its the only thing making noise and since theres nothing else producing sound in the room its incredibly annoying. Disabling C-States somewhat fixes it, but increases temperatures a bit and as such increases idle power consumption from 2w to 6w, as the system is designed for low power consumption 6w isnt bad but id much rather have it idle fully. The system doesnt make any noise when the display is off after idling for 10 minutes, but power consumption again rises to about 10w (not sure why), so i leave it outputting all the time and turn off the momitor when notin use which leaves it at 2w on the cpu, overall power consumption in the region of about 15-20w. I cant rma the mobo or cpu as theyre long since out of warranty, unless ASRock is willing to hit me up with a kabylake cpu mobo and ram combo, which is doubtful lol.. Any suggestions?

So, my almost 8 year old PC is kind of falling apart at this moment; I get CPU overheating (not shutting down, but with HWMonitor it can reach up to 80/85ºC under heavy load. My current RIG is this one: Plus, i've also been hearing coil whine, i think?; Because i keep hearing a really loud high-pitched buzzing from inside the computer, and i can't determine if it's the MB, PSU (which i don't think it is), HDD since it's moving and it's rather old, or my CPU. I did the following things: Cleaned the inside with my pencil (i'm pretty patient, so...what you gonna do). Let it cool off for a while (even for a day sometimes, and still will rise the temp a lot under an hour or two of playing games) Applied thermal paste to the heatsink (i did it 4 months ago, and since it was kind of wrongly applied, i cleaned it and applied it AGAIN two days ago). Defragged the HDD. Cleaned it with CCleaner. Cleaned the Fan and made sure it's running as normal (it runs at 3k rpm as usual). So, my questions would be: 1. Even while browsing on Firefox, CPU usage goes around 100% while initializing it for like 3 seconds, and then it goes up to 40 or 50% when i'm watching a video, and the CPU Temperature raises up to 70ºC (monitored by HW Monitor or Speccy, the same thing); Could it be that the CPU is pretty much dying, and i should replace it with some other CPU that has the same socket as the motherboard? 2. Sometimes a week ago, it shutted down randomly without the CPU or GPU (or even the MB) reaching any critical temps or voltages, but it didn't matter, because it turned off by itself without even giving me a BSOD (this excludes HDD and RAM issues as far as i'm concerned); What can i do to tell if the MB or PSU is dying? (i don't see any physical anormalities on the PSU or MB; No capacitors blown or leaking or anything). 3. What can cause the coil whine that i keep hearing?; Keep also in mind that the high-pitched buzzing sound ONLY occurs when loading...pretty much anything, basically. and "sometimes" it likes to be quiet, but most of the time it's kind of annoying if i don't have my headsets. Thank you anybody who responds to this thread and gives any tips or advice.

I just got my new Zotac GTX 1070 AMP card a few days ago and I was really excited since I was upgrading from a MSI GTX 960 4gb. But I immediately noticed that my card has coil whine during heavy loads and high FPS, which was very disappointing .I did some more testing and I noticed that the coil whine is loudest in benchmarks like Kombustor or OCCT, but it not nearly as loud during gaming, its still there but I have to put my ear on the open top of the case or mute my volume completely. And luckily its not at all there when idle. I also noticed the coil whine decreases when temps are higher, maybe its just a sensation because the fans kick in at those temps and they could be covering up the noise a little, I'm not sure. I was able to remove coil whine completely in games by using v-sync. No whine in 1080p vsync on, barely audible in 2k and slightly more on 4k but with normal volume I can ignore it except during the more quieter scenes. Some say, that a 12 hr or 24 hr GPU burn-in can make it go away completely. I tried Kombustor for 2-3 hrs, temps were getting too high (max 85) and I might have also got a slight burnt smell, so I just stopped that right away at that point. Maybe I'll do a more realistic load like Heaven or Valley for longer. I did this with my overclock so I guess thats why I got the really high temps, and I think this card's cooler isn't as good as MSI's Twin Frozr for example.. Others have said the PSU can cause the GPU to whine or vice versa. I'm using a Corsair VS 650. And when I bought it, I thought it being Corsair and all meant high quality so if anyone has any advice on that please let me know. I never had coil whine before this card as this is my first PC build and this card is the first upgrade I have done. Also doing some research I read the +12v value on the PSU is important. I'm getting a min of 11.4 during gaming or benchmarks, which is the lowest it can go before being considered a bad PSU, could this be the cause of my coil whine? I use HWinfo64 for monitoring everything. Seeing some videos of other people affected by coil whine on Youtube, I guess I still got lucky. I also contacted my shop to see if I could RMA it, they will take it but they say they need to verify if the card has any problem. And I'm thinking I'll probably get back the same card as the coil whine is not severe enough. So, I'd prefer solving the problem somehow or atleast reduce it as much as possible.

Hello, I've had my sapphire rx480 that has had is fair share of issues over the 8 months I've had it. The fans had to be replaced twice. Anyway, recently I noticed the coil whine it is producing in games. Its one of those things that once you notice you can't un-notice. In some games its a low pitch buzzing and others a high pitch squeal. Its not super loud but enough that I can hear it over my speakers at a level that drives me insane. Its annoying enough that I simply don't enjoy using my PC anymour, only 8 months in. Since I've had the card for a decent amount of time, I'm ok with RMAing for a refurbished card, as its probably about as old as mine anyway (worse case a few months older). So much for "diomond chokes" to reduce noise. Anyone know how sapphire treat this kind of issue. If they don't consider it RMAable I'm going to go insane. I have a stock Intel cooler and I can hear it over that dust blower.

Hi! I am almost done with building my tesla coil, the only thing that is left is a UI, but while coding i ran into a problem. I can't figure out how to identify songs and play them. I am using Arduino Mega 2560 with an LCD and an SD card module.Main code:int forward = 22;int back = 23;int Stop = 24;const int rs = 12, en = 11, d4 = 5, d5 = 4, d6 = 3, d7 = 2;#include <LiquidCrystal.h>#include "SD.h"#define SD_ChipSelectPin 53#include "TMRpcm.h"#include "SPI.h" // LCD RS pin to digital pin 12 // LCD Enable pin to digital pin 11 // LCD D4 pin to digital pin 5 // LCD D5 pin to digital pin 4 // LCD D6 pin to digital pin 3 // LCD D7 pin to digital pin 2 // LCD R/W pin to ground // LCD VSS pin to ground // LCD VCC pin to 5V // 10K resistor: // ends to +5V and ground // wiper to LCD VO pin (pin 3)//CS ---------------------->> 53//SCK ---------------------->> 13//MOSI -------------------->> 51//MISO--------------------->> 50//VCC --------------------->> +5v//GND--------------------->> Arduino's GroundLiquidCrystal lcd(rs, en, d4, d5, d6, d7);TMRpcm tmrpcm;void setup(){pinMode(forward, INPUT);pinMode(back, INPUT);pinMode(Stop, INPUT); lcd.begin(16, 2);tmrpcm.speakerPin=9;Serial.begin(9600);if(!SD.begin(SD_ChipSelectPin)){ Serial.println("SD fail"); return;}tmrpcm.setVolume(6);}void loop() { lcd.setCursor(0, 1); lcd.print("Now Playing:");}Thank you for reading, I really appreciate it.

Hi everyone, Over the past couple of weeks I've basically upgraded my entire PC except for the OS SSD and CPU. And now its making some terrible coil whine. It happened first when I upgraded my Asus Z170K to an ROG Strix Z270H Gaming to be able to use two M.2 SSDs. I got myself another SSD and all the other hardware including my 7700K were unchanged, then after reassembly I noticed the coil whine first. So naturally I started looking for the problem, steadily removing and/or swapping out parts to see what was producing the coil whine. After a lot of testing I figured it had to be the motherboard so I applied it for a refund and got another one, an MSI Z270 Pro Carbon Gaming. I just put everything together with the new motherboard and.... still coil whine. As a final test I put everything back on my Z170K aaaaaand still coil whine. So either I got two motherboards with horrible coil whine and somehow my previous motherboard which never had any issues suddenly developed coil whine too, or my CPU is producing the noise somehow. Is it possible for a CPU to make a whining scratchy noise or am I really unlucky with the two new motherboards and my old one developing the same issue for no apparent reason? And if it is the CPU, is there any way to fix it? Specs and tested parts: - i7 7700k with NH-D15 (fans tested with and without Y splitter) - MSI Z270 Pro Carbon Gaming (used for testing: Asus Z170K and Strix Z270H Gaming) - Hyperx Fury 2x8gb 3466Mhz (used HyperX Fury 2x8GB 2133Mhz before, both kits tested in every combination and slot) - Gigabyte RTX 2080 Gaming OC White (used for testing: MSI GT620, GT710, Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1070 and EVGA RTX 2070S Black) - Samsung 960 Evo 250GB + Kingston A1000 960GB (used for testing: Crucial P1 1TB, Sandisk 120GB SATA SSD, every slot and combination) - Corsair HX1200i (used for testing: Corsair TX550M V2, Corsair VS350) Assuming all the new parts worked as they should I already sold some of my old parts so I can't put everything back together exactly as it was when I had no coil whine issues.

So to start off, here are my PC Specs - Intel Core i7 8086K Asus Prime Z370-A 16 GB DDR4 3200MHz G-Skill Ripjaws RAM 750W EVGA PSU 80+ Gold Zotac AMP! Extreme 1080 ThermalTake Core P5 Sandisk Ultra II SSD PERIPHERALS: AZIO MK Armato Mechanical Keyboard Corsair Glaive Aluminum RGB mouse BeyerDynamic DT-990 Pro (Black Ltd Edition) Audio Technica AT2020 M-Audio 2x2 Audio Interface Main Issue My PC started whining as it froze up, audio and graphics included, at first I thought it was PSU coil whine but further auditory inspection lead me to believe it was the CPU area (not sure what exactly) Now this started a few months ago, and I thought I narrowed it down to my Audio Interface in which when freezing up it would often BSOD and state it was the audio interface that caused this. I have tried different drivers for it, now it is unplugged, all drivers are suspended and I have the latest BIOS running Windows 10 x64. I still get some freezes and whine but not as frequent and would like to know if anyone has had this problem? - My CPU is not overclocked however it was overclocked on watercooling and was running stable but since this problem I've put everything to default including XMP. (This issue happens randomly, playing games, on desktop, watching videos etc and the temps are fine)

I have been experiences buzzing sounds coming from my PSU. It seems to depend on what I am doing, such as it is very loud running a game at extremely high fps, like in an uncapped menu, or releasing only slight murmurs if I am just sitting on my desktop. I do not hear any sounds at all when I am in the motherboard bios. I have read that this could have something to do with coil whine, but I experienced a similar issue with my old pc. My new pc has a psu that is only a month or two old, anything I could do to fix this?

Hello everyone! Yes... Once you hear it you can't unhear it. I've discovered coil whine in my rig yesterday. The low-to-mid pitched, yet very fast clicking/ticking noise appears to be coming out of my GPU. It's especially disturbing since my rig is near silent. The noise appears just as the GPU goes under 3D load. It doesn't change in pitch at all. Once I take away the load the noise stops. I can swap between 100% / 0% load states very fast in Unigine Heaven by pausing and the sound follows the load pattern exactly. I've been using this rig for over a month and didn't notice it before. Could it just appear yesterday? GPU: Sapphire Radeon Nitro+ RX 580 PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550W I don't really have another PSU or GPU to swap (no onboard GPU). Does anyone know which of my hardware could cause this issue? Edit: Not my vid, but this is how it sounds like

Hi, My friends and I want to make tesla coil as a physics project. We can't decide about the size of coil. We can have 7.5cm, 5.5cm, 11cm and 12cm (diameter) pvc tube for winding copper wire. We would like to have bigger and taller tesla coil but we can't have more than 12 volt with psu, or maybe 24 with larger car battery but we are not sure will 12 volts be enough for tesla of that size and we want tesla and spark to be strong enough. So give me advices or do you have experiences with that. We saw a lot of videos but we can't see how much volts they use for larger size teslas. Tnx guys and sorry for my bad english

Hello everybody! So, in past discussions I asked for some help regarding PC parts, and after spending a lot of time thinking what to buy, I finally got everything I wanted. I got the parts, I put everything together and the system is amazing. Everything works so damn fast. I have one single problem I discovered today (either I didn't notice it before even if it was there, or it simply appeared today) - a weird sound coming from my graphics card. Now, I heard about coil whine, but I'm not 100% sure what that sounds like and I'd like your opinion. Here's a link to a YouTube video I uploaded a few minutes ago about this (the buzzing sound appears when I get into Witcher 2, and stops immediately when I ALT-TAB) - you can hear it really well at 0:40: The buzzing sound you can hear appears only when I get into certain games like Destiny 2 or Witcher 2. In destiny the frame rate is blocked at around 144 FPS and in Witcher 2 I used Nvidia Inspector to lock the FPS at 120. The sound is still there, but I can't hear it when I play League of Legends for example or Getting over It. The video card is an MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB. I'd like to know your opinion. If it's coil whine, I don't really mind, as long as it won't destroy the graphics card. I have headphones every time I play video games so I don't hear anything, and if I don't play anything the card is completely silent. I hope you can help me with this, I had this PC for a week now and this happened. Hopefully it's just coil whine and hopefully it's not a big deal. Also, sorry if I'm not responding really fast to your comments, I'm posting this at 4 in the morning and I'm too tired too stay up more. I'll answer tomorrow. Thank you for your help once again!

The title says it all, I was just wondering if any of you guys vape :D. I am using a rx200 with a crius rta and a lemo2 rta, sometimes I also use a velocity rda and a magma v2 rda. What do you use?

So, I'm not an often poster on forums, so please forgive anything that goes against etiquette here. I built a computer last May, with an MSI GTX 970 inside it. I noticed it had some terrible coil whine when I was playing some games that got very high FPS and when running benchmarks. I found out that limiting the FPS to 60 in Nvidia Inspector removed this. Yesterday, it appeared somewhere new: the Windows desktop. I get coil whine whenever I try to drag a Window somewhere. It seems worse when the window is a brighter color (ex. moving Steam barely hums at all, but dragging Chrome sounds like I own a cat). I am not an expert in this, but I tried the only things I thought of. I opened Inspector and double checked/reset the frame limiter, I opened up MSI Afterburner and turned every OC setting to zero, I re-enabled hardware acceleration in Chrome (had disabled it to record Google Hangouts) and I googled everything I could think of that might lead me to a solution. I know that sometimes you can't really do anything about coil whine, and you just have to deal with it, but being that my card hasn't exactly been abused or worked very hard on a regular basis, I think that asking for a 15 month old card to not scream at me for organizing a desktop is a reasonable request. Can anyone provide some insight or solutions? Thank you SO much in advance.
