So I've been trying nearly everything to get this chip further, but no matter what I do I can't get past 114 bclk which gets me to 3990 Mhz. Which isn't even that huge of a performance bump because at stock the cpu will boost to 3800 Mhz on all cores as long as your cooling is decent although it doesn't like to boost OC'd. So other than just under 200 Mhz on core my only other real benefit is I can run my 2666 DDR3 closer to it's rated speed and the NB might be running faster but I can't tell for sure since I can't find anything in CPU-Z that correlates with the frequency shown in the bios. Also the only program that can get temps from my motherboard is AI Suite and it only gets the "CPU temp" reading and the motherboard temp reading and I'm not sure I can trust those because it shows my cpu not even getting to 50c under load when it's drawing above 1.53v. So i installed my WD purple drive that i got back from WD today and ive stumbled across something i did NOT expect while checking bios updates for my motherboard. i found a new F9 version and decided to check what it would do and it said "carrizo support" And a amd a10 8750 apu still on the godavari platform. Maybe this be the closest thing to zen on the fm2/fm2+ platform?!

The first, the A10-7860k is a Godavari based APU similar to the 7850k. It is basically a 7850k with a 100 mhz lower base clock as well as a slightly higher clocked graphics unit. The big thing to note though is that this is a 65 watt part, while the 7850k is a 95 watt one. The second is the A6-7470k. It is basically like a 7850k cut in half. It is a dual core unit compared to the quad core, and also has half the CUs compared to the 7850k. However it also has a slightly higher clocked GPU and is a 65 watt part. However these aren't the most interesting parts. Even though the third CPU AMD launched probably won't exactly be a big seller, it is still quite interesting because of what it signals will come in the future. The Athlon X4 845 is a Carrizo based CPU. It contains 4 cores/2 modules clocked at 3.5 to 3.8 ghz. It is also a 65 watt part. This is the first Carrizo CPU/APU made for desktop. Carrizo based AM4 chips will most likely follow it in the future, with this being the reason it has sparked the interest of many. The A10-7860k will also ship with the new wraith cooler. The other two are shipping with an unnamed 95 watt cooler. It could potentially be a lesser wraith cooler, but then again I am only guessing. As well, there will now be an option to get the fx 8370 with a wraith cooler. It will be interesting to test out the x4 845 and check out how much IPC it has. This could give us a good idea as to what future desktop Carrizo parts' performance will be like. EDIT: Just want to clarify all four of these are on the fp2+ platform. AM4 is yet to come.

Is this a APU or a FX cramped into a laptop?

AMD's CEO confirmed in the latest conference call that the next generation Carrizo APU will come to market in the second quarter of this year. The new APU will deliver "the largest ever generational leap in performance-per-watt for mainstream APUs" Carrizo brings many new features to the table, including a new clever voltage delivery system that improves the frequency for any given voltage by 15%. Improving performance / watt by 15% essentially. Another important feature is full HSA 1.0 capability, including unified shared memory, GPU context switch, graphics preemption and quality of service. Leaked benchmarks for Carrizo shows it beating Kaveri by a factor of 2:1 and outperforming Iris Pro by a factor of 3:1, putting it on par with Playstation 4 performance but inside a TDP that's three to four times smaller. . Tech Report techreports that Carizzo - AMD's next line of APUs sporting the Excavator architecture and full HSA compliance - will come to consumers only in laptops and all-in-ones (and presumably mini PCs), but not as socketed parts for enthusiast system builders. What the FM2+ platform is getting though is a new mid-range unlocked Kaveri chip - the A8-7650K. It's basically the A8-7700K, the main differnce being a marginally lower stock clock and a considerably lower MSRP - $105. Also coming - a new budget chipset.

Source Seen these a few days ago but never got around to posting them. It is SiSoft so take these findings with a grain of salt. The thing that caught my eye was the iGPU performance. Which is mind boggling impressive. A10-7850k tests for comparison. R7 265 w/ 2GB GDDR5 623.68 Mpix/s (1024 SP @ 1025 MHz)According to SiSoft Carrizo has as much compute performance as a discrete R7 265 with half the shaders. From what I have heard Carrizo runs a custom flavor of GCN 1.2. Needless to say it's quite impressive as these numbers in turn would mean that Carrizo's iGPU compute performance is more than double that of the Iris Pro 5200 and A10-7850k.

AMD was touting up to 20% IPC increases over Kaveri due to HDL design of the CPU components in addition to the HDL GPU components, something most people, including tech enthusiasts, believed. Well, it turns out Carrizo is only producing 5% IPC increases in most games, both in iGPU mode and dGPU mode. Also, to my personal dismay, the iGPU is still GCN 1.1, so there are no dual graphics capabilities beyond what Kaveri allowed. So, where did the extra 0.7 billion transistors go to? Well, H.265 transcoding and HSA compliance for the most part, as well as AVX2, BMI2, MOVBE and RDRAND, leaving only 3 instructions on Haswell which AMD has not implemented. I'm actually really sorry that AMD didn't deliver on much besides efficiency with this chip, but that said it is extremely efficient! Carrizo L can idle at just 1.5W! This means many great things for this little chip when it comes to tablets, but otherwise Carrizo and Carrizo L are lackluster, and that's being kind. Also, it should be noted clock rates really have not taken a hit, maybe 200 MHz in minimums, though maximums seem to have increased almost 20%. We'll see how it balances out in real world performance if the top clocks are sustainable for long periods or not. Don't shoot the messenger! Personally I wonder just how Intel is meant to squeeze 20% more over Haswell from Skylake... Eventually software devs are just going to have to get better at coding and use better compilers. How the Hell could AMD be lauding HDL for the CPU and not have it deliver any sort of performance gain? It looks like all the work was done on the cache side.

Running the standard flops performance equations for AMD chips (clock rate x cores x ALUs/core x SIMD_SIZE/32 x (multiply and add instruction count), it looks like AMD managed to improve their CPU floating point performance by a decent 10% margin when compared to Kaveri APUs at the same 2.0 and 2.6GHz speeds. The iGPU has gained some performance too, but it doesn't look like it's due to having HBM onboard. The gain is too small honestly given the memory bottleneck on APUs is very constraining. I'm guessing this is all due to moving to GCN 1.2. Whether or not we'll see HBM on non-engineering samples or in desktop chips is still up in the air, but I don't think AMD could reasonably fit much given they were already at the edge of Global Foundries' die size constraints. Overall, Carrizo looks good, but having the same 512 stream processors as were in Kaveri is disappointing. I understand there will be new media encoders/decoders, but let's be honest: we wanted more. Still can't wait for Keller's debut on Zen in late 2016/early 2017, assuming Samsung can actually get 16nm/14nm finfet nodes producing in good yields. After all, NAND flash is really simple compared to CPU circuitry. We'll see if they can actually complete a tapeout by Q2 2015.

Lisa Su Senior Vice President & General Manager at AMD announced on Thursday that AMD will be taping out 20nm chips in the next quarter with 14nm FinFET chips following the quarter after it, siting the Feb 14 date for TSMC's 20nm node. Source This highly suggests that AMD's 20nm GPUs are very close to being ready for the manufacturing phase, we still do not know what will be made on the 14nm FinFET process but it will likely be one of AMD's low power cores due to the immaturity of the 14nm process, high-performance chips will likely follow later on once the process is more mature & the yields are more forgiving. At this rate AMD will be closing in on Intel's 14nm plans, which are facing delays.

UPDATE : Steve Burke of gamersnexus followed up with AMD on this leaked roadmap slide which sparked a lot of controversy. He contacted James Prior, AMD's public relations manager for APUs & CPUs and he had the following to say : He then went to point out that it's quite rare to see more than a year into the future with roadmaps and that the actual roadmap looks like this : The only difference being that this roadmap only covers up to 2014 and not after. AMD's official statement with regards to FX processors and the AM3+ socket : ORIGINAL POST :- AMD will not release any new FX CPUs based on Steamroller in 2014 or Excavator in 2015 a leaked roadmap reveals. AMD heads towards an APU exclusive future as evidence mounts for the end of FX CPUs. AMD will simply continue to sell current Piledriver based Vishera processors well into 2015 until the APU lineup is powerful enough to replace them. While it's certainly disappointing to see AMD leave the high performance CPU market it's none the less fulfilling to see the company finally reaching its goal with the heterogeneous system architecture, after all it's the reason AMD purchased ATi in the mid 2000s and the company's hellbent to reap the benefits with the first ever implementation of said architecture in the form of Kaveri APUs. It shouldn't be long before APUs start leveraging the powerful graphics engine for compute purposes and surpass traditional x86 CPUs as we know them today. source
