The MX Brown is the last of the Cherry originals, its siblings being the MX Blue and MX Red, a clicky and a linear switch respectively. The MX Brown is the tactile switch that completes the trifecta of Cherry's flagship switch line. I personally prefer linear for its smooth actuation, and tactile for its actuation indication, and unfortunately the MX Brown isn't tactile at all. It's almost a linear. I describe it as a Red with a food baby. The bump is so minimal, yet it is just enough to let you know that you've gone past the actuation point. Taking a look at the stem, the legs are where the tactility is created. The small, tiny little dip in the legs that even my phone - that I used to take a photo of this stem - can barely detail it. While this particular stem that I have extracted from a Gateron Brown is particularly smooth, I imagine the likes of Cherry's Brown stems share the same characteristics. Next up is the force curve of the MX Brown. The bump's peak force is around 55g with the actuation point at around 45g, and around 0.75mm away from the actuation bump. That's a large gap in delay between the bump and the actuation. While this wouldn't be noticeable in real world usage, I assume for those whom don't often bottom out will have to get used to the late actuation. I'd be inclined to think I confirmed a keystroke once I experienced the tactile bump. The MX Brown is a tactile switch which also has the softest tactile bump of any tactile switch I have used. ZealPC's 62g Zealios being the most tactile switch I have ever used, with the sharpest, most pronounced, most detailed tactile bump I have ever used, and also with the bump being directly at the top of the keypress with no pretravel. You could read my Zealios review here: Another notable tactile switch I have used is the YOK Purple Trash Panda, which uses the same concept as the Zealios V2, sharing the same characteristics with the tactile bump being at the top of the keypress. Despite the Purple Panda being scratchier, I still prefer it due to the sharper tactility. You can read my YOK Purple Trash Panda review here: While the MX Brown is Cherry's flagship tactile, I don't feel like it deserves the moniker. It's barely tactile. While it does have a slight bump that allows the user to indicate when they have pressed a key, it's far from the standard of tactility that I expect from a tactile switch.

I currently have a Logitech K120, and am looking to upgrade. My budget is around $50. I want a keyboard with switches that have some feedback, like Cherry MX browns, but I don't need them to be made by Cherry. Just something that feels like it. Anything would be a huge upgrade from my current keyboard, though. I don't want RGB, but backlit is definitely preferred. Thanks in advance.

Hi , i have a problem with my logitech g610 , the q and tab are not working properly, when the windows start they work from 5 min to 2 hours , i know it is vague , but that is how it is, and after that they simply do not work anymore. If i plug it to another pc it is the same. I tried reinstaling the drivers but nothing. In my country we do not have luck with good customer service, so told me to sod off. I'm looking for some type of DIY fix if there is any ?

So I'm buying my first Mechanical Keyboard very soon (looking at the K95 Platinum specifically) and deciding between either Cherry Speed or Brown switches. I had a chance to test Browns in person thanks to my friend who owns a K70, and while it felt better than any Membrane I've ever used it still felt a bit "heavy" or "resisting" to touch? (from the slight tactile bump I assume) I have a fairly soft touch when using my keyboard, so something that's very light and easy to press and hold down is my preference. That being said, would something like the Speeds then suit my tastes a little better? I mainly play FPS shooters so holding down the WASD and Shift keys for hours will be most common, with only minimal typing when needed. Also for those who have tried all, is there a noticeable difference between the Brown > Reds > Speeds in how light the key feels to press down? Does the transition from Tactile to Linear make it easier and less fatiguing for long gaming use?

Hi everyone, I've been in and out of the tech world for some time now, but I'm coming backing into it again. Before I used to game quite frequently, now I rarely play more than 1 hour a week. Now I'm much more focused in work and I have been wanting a mechanical keyboard for some time now. I have been considering a Cherry MX Blue or Brown, but I think I'm leaning over to the Blues. I don't share a room with anyone so the noise won't bother anyone else. I've tested out the Blackwidow and those Kahil Greens are really similar to Blues(at least most people say they are) and the noise of those doesn't both me. I have been trying to find a keyboard with Blues for some time now, and I just can't seem to find the right one. All I need is a backlight, a Number pad, wrist rest and a non-gamery font. That's it, and it's unbelievably hard to find this. Can anyone recommend me a reliable keyboard to use over then next few years?

i currently own a logitech g710+ keyboard you know brown switches and i think its finally taking a toll on my left pinky and giving me some tendonitis. i play games like rust which require me to hold the shift or ctrl key down for many minutes at a time and the fact the build quality on the wider keys is sorta sub par upsets me as since i have small hands my pinky has to awkwardly extend out and tap the corner of shift or control and as we all know the keys down just slide down easily like this. so im interested in selling t his keyboard now and buying a red switch keyboard for fps and my tendons sake. anyone know of a keyboard with this? you know like well built keys that down gyrate on its axis so much are firm yet still don't require extra actuation no matter where you press it? im aiming to buy anything in the 95$ range. thank you.

Looking for cherry MX Brown keyboard suggestions. I don't really care if it's 80% or full just not 60%. Also having 5 macros would be amazing (I have a blackwidow atm and I love having the macros). That said most keyboards come with lights but I'm planning on buying keycaps separately and the lights won't show through so idc about the lights. Thanks!

Looking for a mechanical keyboard for around 60$ and by that I pretty much mean no more then 65$ and of course cheaper is better. I was looking at the TOMOKO and AUKEY but they are blue switches, I do not know what key to choose as I cannot try them out before hand, everybody says reds and browns are best for all around use/gaming more then blues which are better for typing. I do both gaming and typing. I don't care how loud the blues are, they are an option I could choose, but Dimitri from hardware canucks said that they require more "patience" because the keys take more time to be ready to be pressed again, which might effect gaming such as BF1 spamming dat melee. What do you guys use? What do you recommend?

Disclaimer: I do not currently intend to build this PC. The purpose of this thread is equal parts curiosity and recreation- I think it'll be fun, and am interested to see the results of such an unusual colour scheme. Greetings, all. I've always been intrigued by the prospect of a Noctua-themed build. While this appears to have been realized by several builders through custom-loop watercooling and heavy case-modding, I was wondering what users on the Linus Tech tips forum could come up with using off-the-shelf components found on PCPartPicker, or other parts that are not listed there. This does not include the aforementioned custom loops, although aftermarket power cables are permitted with links). This is not just to create a challenge, but also in order to make such a build accessible to neophyte builders and people who are not interested in heavy customization. I'm also one of the odd few who really likes the Noctua colours of cream and brown, and given the opportunity, there's a possibility that I'll use the parts lists in this thread to put one together in the future. Obviously, the primary focus of this challenge is the aesthetic, although needless to say the PC should be at least capable of running the latest triple-A titles at 1080p. Price to performance is not a criterion, and neither is the budget. However, I would like to emphasize that valid purchasing links should be provided for all listed parts. Third-party sellers on websites like Amazon are also acceptable. I'd like to personally invite @deXxterlab97, @Energycore, @BingoFishy, @WoodenMarker, and @Starelementpoke to participate. I'm also going to try to put something together, but I don't have a lot of good ideas for this as of now. I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with. Regards, Aereldor.

Hi, I'm getting the Corsair K95 RGB. I do a lot of video editing but I also love playing games for long durations on the weekends. I play games of almost any genre and I sometimes type up long research papers. What type of key switch would you suggest for me? The Cherry MX Reds or Cherry MX Browns? I need something truly for all-purpose use. Thank you.

My G610 has an annoying problem now. The F key is not working properly anymore. Sometimes it won't register at all and I have to press it multiple times. This is especially annoying in games that use the F key for interaction and writing english, since words like for and of both have the letter. Sometimes it also outputs two letters at one press. My warranty expired years ago, should I try and replace the switch or try something else?

Where is the best place to try out cherry switches in/around Toronto/Hamilton, Ontario. Looking to get into the mechanical keyboard market and I think based on reviews and sound tests I'm in-between Cherry Red and Browns (Logitech G610). Over the past few years, I've gotten used to using laptop/iMac style keyboards but I don't think youtube reviews are going to help me nearly as much as trying out the switches in person. I managed to try out Razer greens at Best Buy and hated the aggressive clicky feel but I’m not sure if I’m ready to totally turn my back on tactile yet. Apologies for the noob question, I’m sure you guys get questions like this all the time. Cheers!

So hello guys, I am looking to buy a new keyboard, I want a quite(ish) switch with a tactile bump and a fairly light switch, so I decided to look for one with a brown switch (please suggest if there are other options). And there are so many switches now, but I have heard that some of the brown switches are almost linear, so could you guys recommend witch ones are the most tactile and smooth (I don't want one too scratchy) thanks guys.

Hey LTT community! Looking for some input from those who have owned mechanical keyboards on my first purchase. First off, I currently own a laptop and am looking for a mechanical keyboard to complement a deal I got on a HP 22cwa display. I am thinking of MX browns as I would be using it around roommates and I think I'd prefer some tactile feedback. I was also thinking of just getting a budget keyboard for my first keyboard as well as possibly TKL, but It's not a big factor if it is TKL or not. Here is what I have found so far: Velocifire VM01 $39.99 - I chose this one as the reviews are good, and at that price it is not a big loss if I end up not liking it or it dies quickly, I presume its great for a beginning MKB Corsair Strafe $79.99 - Also I have seen and heard good things about this one, I like the USB passthrough for my mouse, although it looks a bit too "gamery" for my liking. I could get used to it however. CoolerMaster MasterKeys Pro S $89.38 - Also looks like a solid keyboard, trying the TKL version here, I know there are many other versions. Doesn't look "gamery" like the strafe as well. Any and all feedback on these models or any others that you guys may suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, My Corsair Strafe's space bar has been making a really odd clicky noise every time I press it. I notice that everyone else has the same issue. It's much louder than the other keys, even with o-rings. This really annoys me because the other keys are real quiet and soft while my space bar sounds like a blue switch but more clicky. I've had this issue since the beginning. -
Hi guys! I have had my corsair strafe mechanical keyboard for around a year now, however recently some keys such as 'h' and 'a' have been registering 2 strokes instead of one. I've tried pressing with different amounts of pressure but it didn't change at all. Please HELP!!

So I'm looking to buy a new mechanical keyboard since my current rubber dome is 2 years old and starting to show it's age. Preferred switch: Cherry MX Brown (or similar) Budget: ~£120, can stretch to £150. Ideally I would like wireless, but there do not seem to be many high profile (major manufacturers of) wireless mechanical keyboards about. RGB lighting is not necessary, but always a bonus. White backlighting is preferred if just 1 colour. Ideally looking for a black and white (or RGB) keyboard. Any suggestions? Many thanks. Cameron

Hey all, I'm new to the forum. I'm thinking of buying a smaller mechanical keyboard (ten key-less or other config) and was looking for recommendations. My current keyboard is the Steelseries 7G which is a full size mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX black switches. SWITCHES: The switches are responsive and great for gaming but I make so many typing errors that I'm thinking of changing to another switch type. I don't like loud switches so I was considering Cherry browns, but if there are any proprietary switches (I think logitech does some) that are equivalent that would be fine. SIZE: I get quite uncomfortable while gaming with my hands so far apart because the large keyboard stays between my WASD hand and my mouse hand, so I'm interested in a smaller form factor and don't really mind if the numpad is missing. PORTS: One of the reasons I went for the 7G in the first place is the awesome 2x USB, audio input and output that are on the keyboard and pass-through seamlessly with the cable and split off to plug into the PC at the other end. This is very useful for plugging in my USB headset and speaker or USB drives since my computer is hard to access under my desk. So USB and audio pass-throughs would be awesome on a keyboard but not absolutely necessary if it's otherwise a good deal. MACROS / RGB: I don't care about keyboard macros - I have plenty on my mouse - so I wouldn't care about a board with extra macro buttons. I also don't care about RGB backlighting, it's cool but I probably would turn it off most of the time anyway. I don't plan to spend a mint but if I find a keyboard that suits me I expect I could get some money on eBay for my 7G, so I'm more interested in it being ideal for my needs than being under $100 (Australian Dollars). So I've been using the keyboard in the title for less than a year and it started to have ghosting issues ( I would walk in a video game and then strafe or switch weapons and suddenly I wouldn't be walking forward anymore meaning I would stop and it was rather annoying) so I gave it to the store where I bought it and now I have the option of getting a new one or getting a different keyboard altogether, I liked the keyboard and the feel and the problem is that this store doesn't give me a lot of options, I can get some Roccat MK, Logitech G710+, Asus Echelon. The Roccats and the Asus one has black switches which I might not like because they're hard to press and I liked these easy to press cherry MX brown equivalents but I'm afraid that this shitty razer keyboard might break again. The Logitech G710+ seems like a good choice because it has pretty much the same swtiches and it has a 2 year warranty unlike everything else and it would probably last me a long time but I don't really have that much money to spend since I'm saving for a new CPU/MOBO/RAM.

Hey, I'm looking for a very cheap Cherry MX Brown keyboard around the 50-60 USD price range. Does this exist? Thanks. EDIT: My budget is now up to $150. I would like it to be an efficient keyboard for both gaming and typing (so that I can study by day and game by night :D). I would prefer if the keyboard is backlit, but I don't care because I won't be playing games when it is dark.

So the w key on my mechanical keyboard is starting to fail after 2.5 years of use, down presses are becoming inconsistent. Pressing straight down doesn't work most of the time, im having to press on the outside of the key which gets awkward in rocket league and cs go. I'm used to the red switch so would like to get one with reds again, but how close are the blues and browns?

Hey there, i am saving up huge ammounts for a new perfect pc setup with a new desk, monitor pc and all that , so i want everything to be as best as possible for the money i pay, and when it comes to finding the perfect of anything i am very picky i watch reviews and they always say something bad about the product so i guess there are no perfect peripherals but i am wondering what is the best i can get ? I am trying to make my setup with the least ammount of cables vissible so wireless mouse and keyboard are preffered but even if they arent wireless it's not too big of a deal as long as they are as good as they come. So i decided to ask this community about what the best possible mouse and mechanical keyboard with mx brown's is , feel free to share what you think is the best mouse or keyboard out there ! PS : Macros and extra buttons don't matter to me in most cases.

Hi, i have a weird problem with my filco majestouch 2. I shocked it with static electricity a week back, i stood up from the couch, tap the space bar to pause vlc and the shock shut down the keyboard, after 2-3 sec it re-opened. Since, when i press the left shift key it automatically shuts down the computer with standard windows shut down button. The right shift types in''<1asdfjKL:>'' and minimize and resize opened windows but not fullscreen program. I couldnt find any other key affected by a weird behavior but the 2 shift keys. I tried usb and ps/2 plug, re installing it twice in device manager and tried it on another computer, nothing change. So, is there something to do to repair or to fix this. Do i need to change part? I couldn't find any similar problem with a driver less keyboard. Thank you for your responce. 666chaos555
