Hi all, Need some help here. Let me start with some context. I have my an AV receiver (Onkyo TX-L50). Into it, I have a laptop plugged in via HDMI. Also into the receiver I have optical sound from a PC. The PC is connected to an ultrawide monitor, the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo suing a DP cable. What I would like to do, is achieve an Atmos audio output from the PC into my 5.1 speaker setup, which is currently powered by the AV receiver. I was told that if I enable “passthrough” on the AV receiver and use HDMI from the GPU (an RTX 4090) it should just show whatever is being output from the GPU on the monitor with no processing. This does work to some extent – it shows the super-ultrawide display but it looks “off”, please see attached picture. Here are my questions… 1) Does anyone know of an AV receiver that will achieve the super-ultrawide picture? I don’t mind the price (within reason). HDR and Atmos is a must, but I imagine at the category I am looking at, it will have those as a given. 2) Should my current one actually work, but the problem is I am doing something wrong – perhaps with refresh rate? UPDATE: I already have audio working from my pc to the avr via optical. reason I am looking to do this is to have Atmos so I can enjoy Atmos audio from movies and some games - as you know optical does not have the bandwidth to support this.

Hello, This is my first time posting on LTT forums, so I hope I am posting this in the right area. The specs for my pc and home theater are as follows: CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz (stock settings with PBO enabled in bios) MOBO – Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gaming GPU – Zotac Geforce GTX 1080 Ti Mini (completely stock and attached by riser cable included with case) TV – LG 75UK6190PUB AV Receiver – Onkyo HT-S5800 The issue I am having, is I can find no way to get consistent video or audio from my computer, to the TV and Reiver. Here is what I have done so far: · The issue is not due to any loose cables or bad thermals. I recently swapped out my Red Dragon 5700xt from this pc, and put in the Zotac 1080 Ti. In any other computer I’ve had the 1080 Ti in, it’s had no issues, the 5700xt, has only had this issue in this PC, when connected to my home theater. This leads me to believe the issue lies between the PC and the home theater as all parts work while attached to a monitor and speakers. All drivers, software, and BIOS are up to date. · I have tried three configurations to make this work: o A single HDMI cable from the GPU to the receiver. This allows me to run in 4K 60Hz to my tv with Atmos For Home Theater enabled, or allowing the receiver to decode audio. I find it very surprising that even with cheap or old HDMI cables, I am able to get 4K 60Hz in this manner. The issue this config has, is frequent video and audio drop outs, often resulting in having to restart equipment to get video and audio back. This happens regardless of sitting idle, watching videos, or playing games. o HDMI from GPU to TV, with a single HDMI to receiver, or HDMI and SPDIF to receiver. When I try to do this, I am either hoping to run audio and video through HDMI with ARC and CEC, or do video from HDMI and audio through PDIF. The problems with ARC, is although both my TV and receiver support ARC and CEC, when I try to do this, the receiver hard freezes immediately and does not allow me to do anything until I unplug it. I read this may be due to CEC incompatibility. I tried turning CEC off on one or the other, and that did not work either. I’ve tried to direct audio from the TV to the Receiver through SPDIF by selecting the TV input on the receiver, but no audio comes out, and I cannot determine why. This even happens when I use the TV apps as an audio source. I am telling the TV to output audio through SPDIF only. o The last method I tried which would only be a temporary fix, is to have the PC Mobo connect to the receiver via Bluetooth and send video to the TV from the GPU via HDMI but any device I connect to that Mobo via Bluetooth disconnects quickly and frequently, if it connects at all. · When I had the 5700xt in this PC, I only had very frequent audio drop outs while connect to the receiver via an HDMI 2.1 cable. I don’t have an HDMI 2.1 cable long enough to reach the receiver where it is now, but even with a cheap HDMI cable, the 5700xt only drops out audio, not video. · When I swapped out the GPUs I did a fresh install of Windows, and these issues existed on both OS installs. · I could put the 5700xt back in that PC, but I would really rather not, as it is too big for my case (Phanteks Shift Evolv) and does not allow for proper air flow and requires two fans be taken out. This would still mean I have audio dropouts anyway. · I have tried using PCIE 3.0, 4.0, and Auto in BIOS, and that seems to have no affect at all. When attached to the receiver via HDMI directly, I have only tried 4K resolution, but with HDR on and off, and have tried several audio settings. · So I either need this to work via GPU>TV>Receiver with audio being transported to the receiver, or GPU>Receiver via HDMI. · On my other PCs, I always output audio from the Mobo, via SPDIF, and just do video over HDMI, and would like to do that for this, but the Mobo does not have SPDIF. Would a USB audio interface or sound card be a good idea? I worry that the receiver will still have problems if I try that. · Is my receiver possibly defective? It has worked with everything else I have it do, but this issue has existed whenever I’ve tried to use this pc with it. Unfortunately, I do not have another receiver to try, and cannot currently afford one that is compatible with my setup. I see the following potential issues: 1. ARC and CEC between the TV and the receiver is incompatible. 2. I don’t know how to properly have the receiver play sound from SPDIF 3. Something is causing audio and video dropouts over HDMI to the receiver. 4. The receiver needs to be replaced Sorry for the long description, but I have tried so many things, and am hoping someone out there might have a solution for me. Why couldn’t something I don’t care about break, like the AM radio on the receiver? LOL Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. Thank you, Aaron

We're renovating our basement now and adding a home theater setup. I'm doing research, but it's so much info all at once especially with the new technology, ultra short throw, HDR, Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1 with gaming, etc that I'm really overwhelmed. Looking to this community as I've watch many LTT videos and thought I try LTT forum first for recommendations. My main idea for the is 1. Projector (overhead or ultra short throw) 2. Projector screen. Looking to get fixed, not hearing good things about motorized. What do I need to look for specifically? 3. AV receiver, prefer 4k and low latency for gaming (not sure if that's the right term). Don't have any latest consoles, but hoping to grab myself one 4. Surround speaker Any help would be much appreciated!!

I had built a PC a couple months ago and for audio I hooked it up with Yamaha RX-V357 AV Receiver (5 speakers and Subwoofer connected to it). I used RCA to 3.5mm jack cables from Amazon Basics to connect my Asrock B450m Pro4-F to the receiver (using the Blue, Green, pink ports on the back). My receiver is set to 6Ch Input but the problem I'm facing is I'm not getting any output from Centre speaker at all. I tried the Sound configuration wizard in Control Panel and the Realtek Audio Manager too. (All drivers are up to date) This is my Realtek Audio Manager Screen: No matter what option I try, there's just no sound from Centre speaker. The speaker as such works because I tried using it as a front speaker. My last option was to buy a HDMI to RCA cable so that I can use HDMI ARC from my TV to connect it to Yamaha for 5.1 Any help appreciated!

Hello guys, I would like recommendations on pre amp for my Denon X4500h I notice that when I'm watching movies after a while it starts to clipping So I did some research and I guess the problem is not enough power So what would you guys recommend ;D I have a 5.1 setup currently 2 x RP-280F (150W/8 ohms) 2 x RP-160M (100W/8 OHMS) 1 X RP-404C (125W/8 ohms) R-115SW CE (600w) Only the pre amp would solve the issue or did I buy a wrong receiver ? The plan was to start small and later buy more speaker ...

So i've been all over the Internet on German forums with many people having simular problems, yet no answers. So i decided to ask on this Forum. Now whats the problem? I run my Audio over and Sony 5.1 System wich works great, exept Windows does not thinks its a 5.1 System. It thinks its Stereo.Ive connected it to my PC via the digital,optical Toslink cable (light waves/optical fiber) . It has 2 ports so i have it conected to my TV and it works great, in games like GTA or Rainbow Six Siege it works great as well and puts out full sourround, yet windows just says screw you this is 2 channel. Yes i have the latest drivers, yes my av is a 100% 5.1 and is switched on 5.1 mod. I can't connect an HDMI cable to the reciver, because its too old. And no its not to old for modern PC's to handle, becaue on my Dads PC the same receiver works like a normal receiver. So if I take all the facts that I have I would say its a problem on the PC side of things, either the Soundchip or Windows 10 (I would defenetly say Win 10). I will post some screenshots, yet original Text is in German but i will put a translation under the lines that are important. Thanks for any help in progress

I have posted this on another forum but then I thought lets ask my friends here. I know nothing about AV receivers. Never used one. So I am curious. I have used 5.1 speakers with the computer in the past. All I had to do was plug in 3 jacks to the 3 females on the motherboard. The only cost was the price of the 5.1 speakers. But now that I am using a LED TV & want a 5.1 setup I am told that I need an AV receiver. Probably a stupid question but why doesn't digital cable set top boxes or modern TVs offer a 5.1 output just like DVD players & computers offer ? Why this extra need for a AV receiver ?

I have recently got a Marantz 1506 AV Receiver and I am struggling to find the best way to connect it to my PC. Previously, I had a creative 5.1 system which I connected using a Xonar Essence ST with the HDAV1.3 daughterboard. I have still got the sound card but there are a few things that bother me. First of all, its PCI and it is limiting my motherboard choice (looking to upgrade to z270 soon) and secondly I need to use optical to hook up to the AV receiver, and I think that means dolby digital live (I'm no expert but I hear this isn't as good as HDMI), and therefore is this fancy sound card redundant as I am sending out digital sound? I have also tried using the HDMI on the video card. I like this in theory as I could ditch the sound card and get whatever z270 board I want, but it doesn't really work for me. I have a ROG swift monitor connected over display port, powered by a 980ti. If I connect the AV receiver using HDMI, windows automatically extends my display, which had me wondering where my mouse cursor had gone. If I duplicate the displays, I cannot use 1440p on my main monitor and it locks the refresh to 60hz. I cant pass through the AV receiver to the monitor either as it wont give the full refresh rate on the monitor over HDMI, has to be display port. The main question is, does anyone have a way of outputting audio only (no video) over the HDMI port on a 980ti, so there are no display issues? Or do I need to stick with a DDL sound card and connect over toslink?

I have the Onkyo TX-NR609 AV Receiver and it is set to HDMI audio passthrough (so audio goes thru TV speakers) but I cannot use the volume knob, Is there a fix for this?

I am looking at buying this receiver http://pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-1120-K . It was released before 4k was popular so 4k support isn't specified on it's product page. However, it says that it uses HDMI 1.4a which I believe is 4k compliant, but I'm not sure if it will do 4k 60fps. Can anybody help me figure out if this receiver will do 4k 60fps?

I am planning to use an optical cord for my audio. I will only use the av receiver for auido, i will connect my monitor to my motherboard. So I have an Onkyo NR414 and when I use my headphones I set the receiver in what's known as "pure audio". I then turn up the volume as required. Quality already sounds pretty spot on for me but will I see any gains by using a dedicated DAC such as the Fiio e10K? Cheers in advance
