I've been asked to get an old set of parts up and running for a spare/internet browsing PC: Mobo: Asus M5A97 R2.0 CPU: FX 4100 GPU: HD6450 RAM: various configurations of Patriot PVI38G160C9K (4GB x 2) and G.Skill 4GB x 4 memory PSU: Super Flower Leadex III 550W BLUF: The MoBo's power light lights up when connected to power, and then the power switch is pressed, the fans spin. But there is no POST beep, nor any visual display. Instead, the fans (CPU & Chassis headers) both spin until I hold down the power switch on the MoBo and turn everything off. The GPU is extremely barebones but functional (as of 3 months ago before it went back into a static bag) and is used specifically for builds like this where I want to confirm functionality. I'd replace it with a slightly more modern/capable one if I had any confidence in this build. The lack of POST beep concerns me, especially since I don't get any beeps/screams no matter what configuration I attempt (0-4 DIMM slots filled, GPU installed or missing). Even reseating the CPU didn't solve the issue. Both the MoBo and CPU were handed to me and so I can't vouch for their functionality, but the fact that the CPU cooler fan (and any other fans plugged into fan headers) spin up in reaction to the power switch suggests that there's at least something going on. I've tried using both the DVI and the HDMI port on the GPU, to no avail, as well as using the GPU to either of the PCIe x 16 slots on the MoBo. This is an AM3+ MoBo so it has no integrated graphics and requires a discrete GPU I've confirmed that the BIOS version printed on the board (2603) vastly outstrips the version needed to run the CPU (0203) and am at a loss. Any ideas how to get this build up and running?

Hi peoples of the internet, I recently got an AM3+ system with an FX-6300 as my secondary pc for playing Forza and other racing games on the TV. But that doesn't really matter, my northbridge gets really hot like really hot. I can't touch it for longer than 3 seconds without burning my fingers. I got the chip OC'd to 4.2/4.4ghz without any problems, VRM heatsink is just warm to the touch, nothing big. I even turned my oc & boost off and replaced the thermal paste but the Northbridge is still going crazy Any advice would be appreciated since I just don't know what to do anymore btw I'm new here so don't bash me if this is the wrong thread 2nd pc specs: MB: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 CPU: FX-6300 @ stock RAM: 18gb ddr3 @ 1600

Recently I have decided that I need an upgrade. I'm currently running an i5 2400 with an OEM 1155 board. My CPU is no longer powerful enough for what I need to do with my PC as what I'm doing requires a high core count, and recently I've had this problem where the CPU fan just decides to stop spinning and it lets my CPU heat up to 100C while I'm putting it under load. I'm not able to configure the fan curve in the bios, as the bios for this motherboard is very simple because I slowly ripped out every part of a prebuilt Lenovo system while upgrading. SO i've been thinking of having 2 possible upgrade paths, and since I already have an AM3+ cooler on hand I thought to either go for an FX chip like the FX-8320 and an AM3+ motherboard since FX CPUs are relatively cheap and have high core counts, or go for a second hand 1st gen ryzen with AM4 board. I don't want to spend more than £100 on this upgraden at most, which is why I want to know if my AM3+ cooler can fit. It's the stock CPU cooler for the FX-8350 chip, and I don't want to have to spend extra on a new bracket for my current cooler, or to buy a new cooler outright.

Hi guys I have been building my pc and upgrading it over the years. Im stuck with this PC since i cannot afford to buy a newer generation at the moment. What i would love to is be able to play FS2020 with decent FPS. Since its a CPU heavy game I was wondering if upgrading my FX8320E would be a solution to squeeze a little more performance out of my rig? My options are: AMD FX-8350 (around 160 EUR) AMD FX-9370 (used around 190EUR) AMD FX-9590 (used around 200EUR) My current specs: Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z CPU: AMD FX-8320E GPU: Dual Radeon RX 480 8GB RAM: 32 GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) (4x8GB) PSU: Corsair RM850 Is it really worth the money to upgrade the CPU or maybe GPU? Thanks for your help :)

I currently have an am3+ motherboard with an amd fx-8350 with a be quiet cpu fan,700watt psu, 8gb ddr3 and an asus gtx 1070 turbo. My cpu is very old and is not great for playing most games. So should I sell everything or just upgrade my motherboard, cpu and ram. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Can I use my 125w Thermal solution cooler(AM3+/FM2+) from my 880K on AM4 socket CPUs? (I also have one from my FX-8370 tough it sounds like a jet engine) 2. IF YES! Should I use one of them over the new cooler included with Ryzen 3300X or 3600X? (these are just rated for 65w & 95w versus the older ones for 125w)

So my motherboard in a prebuilt died, im replaceing it with the ASUS 970 pro gaming http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-970-pro-gaming-aura-atx-c7-126556.htm?promoid=1308 my processor is a OEM 95watt FX 8120 http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series FX-8120 FD8120WMW8KGU.html i have a 212 Evo LED and im looking to overclock it, will i run into any issues with it being the 95 watt version? by default it was set to boost to 3.4ghz so i overclocked it a little before my board died to 4ghz. ( board didn't support OC so i did it with overdrive i'm looking forward to being able to use Bios this time) at 4 ghz i think i had it running low 50s under load before the motherboard died. looking for some general advice

motherboard AM3+ shutting down/wont boot
kuraiskrap posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So im having issues with my AM3+ Motherboard.while running sometimes the CPU fan would spin up really loud, and the system would turn off. when i tried to boot sometimes(especially after it turns off running) it would turn off instantly, or it would power up but the case fans wouldnt spin. Right now, its been sitting collecting dust and i figured id try and get it working again. the troubleshooting ive done is checked temps (its not a CPU overheating issue it would do so unoverclocked with a 212 evo wasnt even hitting 50) tried the individual ram sticks swapped GPU (currently powering my backup rig) swapped PSU (also currently running my backup rig) all thats left really are the CPU and motherboard and id assume its the board hopeing to run a friends fx4200 in my board and my fx8120 in his board and see if theres any issues during some stress testing letting it run for awhile, right now ive only had it turn off once and it turned back on without any issues, running prime95 blend to see if anything happens any advice from the Forums? -
I have a setup with a amd fx8320 on a gigabyte 990fx-ud3 r5 motherboard. I'm searching for a new ssd for mine pc. Currently running a samsung 840 evo. I want to buy the the intel 600P(€98) with a PCIe to m.2 adapter card beacause its cheaper than a 850 evo(€120) and much faster. I'm also looking to upgrade when zen releases if it is in my budget. So the PCIe gen2.0 bottleneck disapears at that point. So the question is can i run a nvme m.2 ssd over PCIe on a am3+ 990fx motherboard that dosn't natively support it? Thanks for the answers.

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU cooler. I currently have a FX-8320 and I'm planning to use a compatible high performance liquid cooler for overclocking. Also, I'm planning to build a new RYZEN PC, use the same cooler for the new socket and also saving costs. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Hey Fellas, I was wondering if it would be worth investing in a better motherboard for my computer I'm looking at the MSi 970 Gaming MB for Am3+ sockets. Hi, after some months of lurking i decided to ask for help here on my first thread ever on LTT. Long story short: my PSU was bad, and before my realization it damaged my actual mobo (MSI 970 Gaming). I have already changed it with a EVGA Supernova G2, but i kept my stability problem even at stock clock, stock vcore. Now i'm searching for a new motherboard, my attention was attracted by this two models: - Asus 970 Pro Gaming - MSI 970A Gaming Pro Carbon so that's why im' here: do you know something about those two? or maybe other ones that you know reliable and trusthworty? I'm searching something with TRUE vrm phases and not doubled ones like on my current 970 Gaming, the twos that i nominated, do you know if they have true vrms? any suggestions? Thanks. Hi, I bought a used PC and a h100i came with it. I decided to sell the h100i with a AMD CPU/Mobo combo. Problem is i just saw in the box that the last owner lost the littles "hooks" for the AM3+ socket. I'm from Canada and seems like i can't find any place to buy those little hooks This is the link from corsair about those "hooks" i have the bracket i just miss the hooks. http://www.corsair.com/en/hydro-series-h80i-h100i-amd-mounting-bracket-kit What should i do? Thank you all for suggestions/ideas!

Hello, all. Currently, I have a 970A-G43, which many of you have pointed out was a terrible motherboard outright, let alone for overclocking. Since FX and AM3+ are on its way to being obsolete in favor of the new Ryzen platform, I bet I can get a good enough deal on just a motherboard that preferably has decent overclocking potential on eBay. I don't think I want to spend more than $70 USD for one. Since I am no longer using my FX-6350, I plan to do one of two things: breathe new life into it by overclocking the snot out of it (4.9+ GHz or bust) or destroy it trying to. Of course, that means I am not trying to spend too much money on an obsolete platform, but regardless I am looking for recommendations for motherboards with beefy power delivery and thermal resistance, namely heatsinks on VRMs and other motherboard components. Thank you very much in advance. (I might also need better cooling. I only have spare Hyper 212 EVOs laying around, and my best cooler is a 360mm CLC...)

Hello! I am currently in need of some help from an owner of a 970a-g46 board. Recently my board stopped working and I figured out there's a surface mount resistor missing from under the 24pin. I was wondering if someone would be able post a picture of that part of the board or let me know what part number the resistor has on it, it's the bottom most resistor. I did get the board working again after bridging the connection with graphite, but I would rather not run the board not knowing what type of resistor had fallen off. Thanks for the help :D.
