  1. Hi, I'm building quite a beefy pc and I need some advice. The platform's gonna be as follows: Threadripper 3970x on a gigabyte trx40 Aorus MASTER with 128gb of trident z (not rgb) 3600 memory and two Asus rog strix rtx 2080 ti's. From what I've read it seems like aircooling is actually not a bad option for threadripper. I certainly don't want to do any custom loops so the only other option would be an aio but I heard that Enermax trx4 cooler had some gunking up issues and on top of that I had never used any aio's before. So my question is: Should I use an air or a watercooler solution and what specific products could those be? Thanks a lot!
  2. I have a i5-9600k and i’m wondering what air cooling i should get. I only want to overclock it to around 4.2 hz because i’ve heard it stutters when at 5. My price range is right at or around 60 dollars. i’m looking at the hyper 212 as my choice at the moment. plz help any input is welcome.
  3. I’m basically looking for performance and the ability to overclock a i5 9600k to 4.3hz or more and i don’t know which cooler to choose. My price range is 60 and under. I’ve been looking at the Scythe Mugen 5. rev B and the Scythe ninja 5. Plz help thanks in advance!
  4. Hi all, I am currently struggling to figure out what cooler would be the best option for a 9900k. I am building in a Lian Li TU150. It can fit almost any air cooler, but I am worried about the installation. I would much rather a smaller air cooler or even a 120mm aio if possible. I want to overclock, but nothing too crazy. As of now I'm thinking these are my main options (I listed them in my preference order, but I just don't know if they can perform well enough): NH-u12s (I would be running NH-u12s with two fans) H80i V2 Extreme BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 NH-D15 Thanks for your help in advance. Edit: Just for clarification, I understand i9 9900k is not the best cpu right now, but I plan on making a hackintosh, so intel was most reliable option.
  5. Hey everyone! First time builder here. I recently purchased parts for a new build. The 200r was highly recommended for the quality/price of it. It has 1x120mm fan in the front and 1x120mm fan in the back. I bought 2x120mm Arctic F12 Silent (3pin) to add to my case but I'm not sure where to put them in order to optimize performance. The Corsair 200r has two available spots on top, two available spots on bottom and two available spots on the sidepanel. Also, I have a Cooler Master Hyper212 Evo CPU fan. From my quick research, it seems that a rule of thumb is to fill TOP before BOTTOM or SIDE, so I'm thinking put one on top (Pushing Out) and one on side (Pushing Out)? Also, I'm not sure if this information is necessary but I have 2 cats and lots of carpet so hair will be present... I don't know why I'm sharing that since dust and hair will probably make its way inside my PC but maybe it changes things! I appreciate any help I can get! I'm here to learn! Cheers!
  6. Just a wonderful peice of hardware i found at a local thiftstore
  7. I want to build a (quiet) System in the Silverstone SG13 soon. I'm mit shure, that small Top-Blow cooler for the CPU could be as quiet as a 120 AiO, so I'm planning to use an AiO. The question is, If there is enough space on the Drive-Tray to mount a 3,5" HDD If there is a Radiator beneath it? Or do you know a quiet Air cooler, that fits between the CPU and some STX PSU and is not noisy? I want to pit a Ryzen 2600 with 95W TDP in it.
  8. I want to connect Deepcool CF120 fans to the (MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon) or (MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC), and control them with Mystic light light sync, but i dont know which motherboard RGB header to use. i have budget to buy a converter but i don,t know which to buy if necessary. The fan-header is a 5V A-RGB header called ADD_HEADER. How do i connect them? I have A FH10 for the PWM so they want bother me. It is only the A-RGB i have problems with. this is the fan: Deepcool CF120 Motherboard 1: MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard 2: MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC
  9. Disclaimer: I guess this could be considered a mod post but I am less interested in the modding and process of modding itself and more with the cooling theory/practice behind it. Forgive me I haven't been active in a while. I have a Leno ThinkCentre M72e 3264 that I purchased to use as a MC server for me and my friends. It's obviously much quieter a more compact than the tower I was using before so I've taken to running it 24/7. My concern however is that from time to time it'll get a decent bit louder and the chassis will be fairly warm to the touch. While I'm sure it's technically fine I'm worried about it affecting it's longevity (and overall quietness) and have considered attaching a fan to the top of it in some way. This is something I had considered briefly while purchasing it but what I didn't realize was that it uses a blower style cpu fan that comes out the front, and only, exhaust. I'm hoping to give some of my thought process here as to what or what not to do and see if you guys can give me some advice on what to do, or if it'll even be worth it, because quite frankly I'm not sure if any of this is even accurate to how airflow and air cooling works. Original Idea: Drill a few holes on top and mount a fan to help blow out the hot air Cpu uses blower style so I'd be going against the Cpu's main fan as opposed to aiding it Would probably just suck out and fresh air from the passive intake vents 2. Just cool the chassis: Drill only the mounting holes ontop and mount a fan to help cool the chassis which will in turn help keep the rest of it cool Even with a thin fan I'd probably have to make sure it's raised a bit which would effect it's effect size but not much Is this even a thing????? Cool Chassis = Effectively Cooler Components???? 3. Drill some holes or cut out a square and cover it with a filter of some sort Give it more fresh/cooler air to work with Might compromise it's intended airflow? (Could the fan handle pushing more air?) 4. Get over it, it isn't worth it but i guess you can do -blank- for luls I appreciate the help.
  10. Hi guys, First, I want to apologize if this kind of thread is already existing, I just really want to have a more specialized opinion from you guys with my current setup. Question: What will be the best type of cooling for me? My build Mother board: Asus ROG B450 E GPU: Asus ROG Strix 1660 TI OC CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Cooler: The one comes up with the CPU, i think its called wraith stealth? Correct me if I'm wrong. RAM: Dual 8 GB 3200 Corsair PSU: EVGA supernova gold+ 650 HDD: 2TB seagate baracuda SSD: Patriot burst 240 GB CASE: Fractal design meshify C white edition Looking forward for your response and all is appreciated. If possilbe, i would like an air cooling that is white hehe and want to apologize for my bad English. Thanks again!
  11. Yeah I am not sure where to put them, the cables are in these 2 ping connectors, and I don't know If I have to put those fan pins in my Mother-board or just leave them as they are. [02-01-2020-20_18.]
  12. Hello people. I was wondering if any user of a Gigabyte Rtx 2060 Gpu has been able to find an aftermarket air cooling solution for this card as it does not seem to be compatibñe with ani of the Arctic Cooling accelero Heatsink and Fan combo, nor with the Rajintech MORPHEUS Heatsink... Has anyone found an alternate to the stock fan/heatsink? Any help will be much appreciated. Best regards. Mike.
  13. I build my personal rig a few weeks ago in this Silverstone Grandia GD09 HTPC case. I am planning to buy 120mm fans for the left and right side. (Noctua only) Should i go with 2 120mm fans for each side or should i buy 2 for the right and 1 for the left. Which one should be an intake and which one out. If yes.. Should i go for the high airflow NF s12a or the all round best NF A12? This is my current setup. It has a 80mm intake fan on the left and a outtake on the back, a nh u9s cpu cooler with a extra 92mm fan and on the right side the stock 120mm fan that came with the case. The temperatures of my ryzen 7 3700x (stock clock speeds) are around 45-65 degrees Celsius while internet browsing, 65-70 degrees when at full load. And 65-75 degrees while gaming (PUBG, Modernwarfare) (What are your experiences with your 3700x? Let me know) Thank you!
  14. Hey LTT community, Like the title suggests I have two Nvidia Titan RTX GPUs and I'm running them in NV-link for deep learning purposes (sorry, not a gamer ). I have a Fractal Design Meshify S2 TG case with five 14cm fans (see pictures, three push (front), two pull (in rear) to create overpressure) but the top card keeps thermal throttling under load. I've read that the dual fan cooling is not ideal for multi gpu setups, but I am still asking if there is a way to improve airflow or any suggestions you guys might have to prevent thermal issues. I'm using the 4-slot nv-link bridge to create as much space as possible but still no luck. I looked at watercooling the GPUs but since they are not mine, I cant take them apart to mount the waterblock. Any suggestions are welcome! I currently lose out on about 20% performance due to thermal constraints :( PS. the case fans are set to full power, gpu fans are controlled by Nvidias drivers (under ubuntu) but go up to max rpm under load so its not a fan issue. Also, I took off the glass panel to take the pictures but that is on when I run the system (dustfilters would be useless otherwise ? )
  15. So im building a whole new system, and the only part im on the fence about is the cpu cooler. It will be cooling a 9700k in a Define C case. Id like to OC it to ~4.5Ghz atleast and possibly more depending on the silicone lottery. Anyway these two are what it came down to for me. Looking at youtube reviwes they seem almost identical in performance, with the bigger NH-D15 being a few degrees cooler than the NH-U12A. However a few also said these new fans on the U12A have a lower pich noise and are one of the least annoying ones to listen to. Having read a few topics here it seems people are a bit more in favor of the D15 saying its quieter. I thought about going with the U12A for the aesthetic reasons but im not sure anymore. Price isn't an issue. Can a few people chime in with their experience? Thanks in advance!
  16. I have all my parts except my air cooler what are your guys’ recommendation for a Noctua air cooler I’m going to slightly OC my CPU and I am using a h700 for my case (I would do the research myself but my schedule doesn’t allow it)
  17. Hello LTT! I cool my rig with 9 fans and a water cooling for my CPU, could you comment what you think of it and if I should change something Here's an idea of what it looks like :
  18. Hi all.. This is my very first SFF build. Still alot of rooms to improve, but so far I'm quite pleased and enjoy the building process. I just finished this afternoon. Before this build I used Phanteks Evolv ITX as my platform. Only for 1.5 years my interest to a real small form factor become stronger and stronger until I cant resist it. Finally I dare myself to build one. The initial idea was to have a tiny form factor system but running as beefiest components (CPU cooler and GPU) as it allows and it has to be air cooled. I'm a kind of average budget person, so I cannot afford the NCASE M1 as it's so expensive to finally reach my hand ($190 base price and mark it up to $314 to arrived in front of my door), and I'm not into the purchasing system it runs. So I ended up with the "Poor man's M1" version, the Cougar QBX. Basically I just migrated some of my previous PC components inside the Evolv ITX to the QBX, and will upgrading the GPU later on, wait for what AMD will offer with their NAVI. And this is the part list: CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K, 5 GHz, delidded with LM CPU cooler: Noctua NH-C14S Motherboard: MSI Z370i Gaming Pro Carbon AC RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8 Gb, 2666 MHz GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6 Gb FTW2 DT PSU: Corsair SF600 Platinum Case cooling: 1x Noctua NF-R8 80mm fan front intake, 1x Cougar stock 92mm fan rear exhaust, 2x Noctua NF-F12 iPPC 3000 fans top exhaust. I did an extensive research before I decided to execute my trigger for this kind of build. After I decided to use the Cougar QBX, from there I start to try to find any informations as many as possible from its specs, what's the biggest components it can take based on its official specs, until to finally I found the untold specs that this case hides inside itself, and then I saw a wider choices of components to keep me consistent with my initial idea. I was about to upgrade my GPU also along the building proccess, but life is quite rough lately, so I need to save some cash for it and the GPU upgrade is in hold for it, but I don't mind as there will be AMD to show up some new line-ups soon enough, so I stay calm and patience.. For the PSU, I was thinking about it for a month to find which SFX PSUs are available in my country. Initial plan was Enermax Revolution SFX or Seasonic Focus Gold SGX, but both models are out of stock, even Silverstone SX-G also. The SFX PSU which available in where I live is the Corsair SF, so I get this little big boy instead even the price is over my target, but I think I cant go wrong with this unit. The CPU cooler??? Cougar stated that QBX maximum height of CPU cooler it can accomodate is only 105mm, but after extensive research it can take 145mm CPU cooler with side plate/bracket uninstalled. The trade off is I lose 2x any 2.5" storage drives mounts and 1x 3.5" HDD mounts, and 1x 120mm side fan mount. I take the trades to put NH-C14S to cool my 5GHz 8700K inside a tiny case, also since I don't need many storage drives so I can live with it. TL:DR, here some of the pics when I built it, it's not the pretiest build, but like I said, there are still alot of rooms to improve, and also I'm sorry for the poor quality pics. I installed the SF600 with this orientation to allow me to install 2x 120mm NF-F12 fans just to exhaust heat as fast as possible when it needed. I set the NF-F12 at constant 1000-1500 RPM up until 80C, and higher RPM for over 80C. the front top exhaust NF-F12 is to pull out the PSU heat without leaving heat is being trapped at the gap between PSU bracket and the top/roof of the case, while the rear top exhaust NF-F12 is to pull out the CPU heat. About the motherboard.. Initially I plan to upgrade to Asrock Phantom Gaming Z390 ITX/ac also to future proofing, but found that there is someone have problem with the NH-C14S on old motherboard inside QBX, and it makes the guy cut the heatsink to fit in there. Then it made me wonder if each motherboard has their own certain exact spot or let say coordinate of the CPU socket relative to the motherboard area and dimension. I was quite sure it has and it will affect to the NH-C14S compatibility. I was discouraged by some opinions that saying I will be unlikely to be able to fit the NH-C14S without involving some mods. But challenge accepted, and I see a quite big risk ahead but I decide to gamble myself for it, I took the risk and move on.. I checked the Asrock vs my preowned MSI board. Crop their pics at same orientation and size, I found that Asrock CPU socket is located slightly to upper right direction, while MSI has it tend to be located the opposite direction, lower to the left. From here I cancle my decision to get Asrock and stay with my current motherboard instead. Aaaaand this is when the NH-C14S heatsink is succesfully installed on the system.. No mod/s required. Look how close my risk by gambling on it.. Just tiny touch perfect fit! This is the spot where a real conflict happens.. No big deal rubber vs metal. Only the outer fin which get bent by the power cable, no worries.. a milimeter gap on the rear sector vs 25mm thick rear exhaust fan with the NF-A14 Chromax installed..! (I have it already from the previous build) I was about to use NF-A15 instead because it's aestethically better than NF-A14, but the mounting clips are not compatible, tried to use the NH-D15 fan clips also not compatible, so NF-A14 is OK then, it's the same fan after all, only different style. and with the side panel on.. Just to test the side fit. It actually touches the side panel but only a light touch on the fan rubber pads, it doesnt even push the panel, so I still can slide the panel on and off quite easy.. No gap between the side panel and the case body by the fan vs side panel touch.. I'm safe.. It's a nice relieve.. I was planing to install the NF-A14 under the heatsink so I can install the side bracket on to be no compromise on the QBX features but the 24 pin ATX power cable doesn't allow me to do that, so here we are now.. Touch the limit not so perfect fit! I will upload the full build when the time is right.. I'm still planing to change the sleeved cables with the custom ones and upgrading the GPU.. Any inputs and rating, comments and opinions, or any constructive ideas are greatly welcome, I highly appreciate it.. Thanks for your time and attention.. Regards..
  19. I just built a PC and am planning to upgrade to a Noctua nh-d15s. I am using RTX 2070 with an open air design. Because the nh-d15s is very big, I am worried about the following: Will the GPU temps be affected? Will CPU temps increase because of the hot GPU? How should the fans be configurated? (see pic). I am living in a polluted and dusty city, so I have installed pretty restrictive air filters in the front of the case. Should the top fans be exhaust or intake or a mix of both? How many top fans do I need? (I need to keep the air pressure positive inside the case, so I was hoping 1 would be enough) Where should I place the fans on top? (should i place it just above the noctua, won't it pull hot air from GPU through the fins?) PS: I am new to PC building.

  21. Will the cooler master Hyper 212X air cooler work with an i7-9700k at stock speeds? Also will it fit in a H500i case? Cheers
  22. Dear fellow forum users, *** GPU water VS AIR cooling *** With the launch of the the new Ryzen CPUs and hopefully reduced GPU prices in the coming weeks I am preparing to replace my old Gaming PC: - Intel I5-3570K (custom water cooling loop) - Gigabyte HD7970 GHz (standard Gigabyte cooler) - 8GB of Corsair DDR3 ram And I am looking at stepping into Ultrawide (3440x1440) gaming with: - AMD Ryzen 3700x or 3800x - Nvidia RTX2080(Ti) The goal of this build is to create a capable and QUIET! gaming PC When trying to select my parts I come to CPU cooling and there are many great videos and articles comparing water (AIO) and air cooling for CPUs like the video Linus made recently. HOWEVER for a gaming PC (my current one and I suspect new ones as well) The loudest part under gaming load will almost always be the GPU. Now for the big question. If we disregard price and only look to noise levels under load. What setup would be quieter? System A: Big CPU Aircooler + GPU with aftermarket design from MSI, Asus, ... System B: Custom water cooling loop for both CPU and GPU? Best regards, Alex
  23. Hello, i recently changed my cpu and installed cryorig h5 universal, i don't know if i did a good job with the thermal paste so what is the temps i should expect "i7 8700k".
  24. Hello, I have seen so many mixed opinions online about air cooling with an i7-8700k and was wondering what the recommended cpu cooler would be. In my previous build I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, and since I'm trying to save parts to save money because of a lower upgrade budget, I'm curious if that cpu cooler (roughly 5yrs old) would be sufficient in my new i7 build.
