Heya, I've bought two APs in the title to connect one house to the other into a one network. The first house has a new fiber cable with router and everything and from that router theres a new cable to the AP on the roof. Second AP is setup to be a client, the cable is used from the previous antenna, but tested and working. Issue is the internet in the other building (with client AP) keeps disconnecting randomly for few seconds, up to a minute and i cant figure out why. There's a tree on the way from one ap to another, but shouldn't be much of a problem, since there are no leaves on it in November Any ideas what might be causing this issue and how to fix it?

Hi, I’m a little new to all this... So, I want to upgrade my entire network setup at home and I planned to use Ubiquity’s UniFi access points, POE switch and security gateway. I’ll run the UniFi cloud key as a plug-in on my TrueNas. I thought keeping everything to one brand will make a pretty pleasant experience setting up and great for compatibility. However, I’ve come across a good deal on a few of Cisco’s Aironet access points. A few questions came to mind like; Should I consider using the Cisco access points with the Unify switch and gateway? Are they even compatible with each other? Will I need a cloud key for both Cisco and UniFi? Or should I just miss out on a great deal and just stick to a full UniFi setup? Any advice appreciated. Here’s more information about my hardware list: 1x UniFi Security Gateway - USG-EU 1x UniFi POE Switch - USW-LITE8P AND 4x UniFi Access Point - UAP-AC-LR OR 4x Cisco Access Point - AP2802I

To get right into it, I'm trying to understand the difference between Access Point and Wireless Router when it comes to my personal room. For the scenario, my Netgear Modem is my ISP, however, I also have an ASUS Wireless Router. There are multiple options when it comes to setup, but after some research I narrowed it down to either: 1 - Wireless Router or 2 - Access Point. A quick google search tells me the differences, but I'm looking for something more complicated here. If I set the ASUS Wireless Router as a Wireless Router, am I creating another 'LAN' Network for my connected devices i.e. PC, PS5/ PS4/ Xbox Series X? If I choose Access Point, can I still use a wired connection to my Netgear Modem (ISP) and use the ASUS router as a WIFI extender, BUT also use it to connect my devices to the internet through Ethernet cables from the Access Point (ASUS Router). What are the differences and what is feasible? I also plan to extend a future router for outside use (BBQ, Movie Night, Streaming), but I'm not sure if that should be using a Wireless Router or Access Point approach too. Any help or expertise is much appreciated!

Hello! I have just bought a Cisco AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9 accesspoint. I just discoverd that it is controllerbased, however you can download an autonomous version at ciscos offical site, but you need to have a contract and account to download it? Anyone that know how i can get it without a contract?

Wifi in My folks Home has always been historically bipolar good days, bad days, good weeks, bad weeks, etc. There have been problems with signal strength, speed consistence, Especially in my room. Do I need to bridge my ISP's Router with something new? Do range extenders actually work?? Home (Duplex) layout: ISP router is in the middle of the house but within 1ft (30cm) of the wall we share with our neighbor to the north of us. This area is directly below the Bathroom (very strong signal here), my room is on the other side of the bathroom to the east, my bed where I stay up all night using WIFI, and my gaming PC are placed on the far end of my room. I would like the Inconsistency in strength and speed to stop preferably for ever. I've tried changing the channel after consulting Wifi Analyzer but the improvements are marginal. Powerline adapters have been considered but it would only solve the problem for my PC and not my phone, the wiring in this 1970s house maybe also too old to support this solution. ANY help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I have Xfinity (bleh) and have a cable modem router combo, and a 5 port switch, both from Netgear. Was wondering since im getting a new modem if I could use an access point for wifi temporarily until i can fully upgrade to mesh. I saw a great access point on sale thats way cheaper than a new temp router. So basically can I use an access point in replace of a router or even both at once. Thanks fellow nerds :)

Does anyone have experience with Watchguards Enterprise-Accesspoints? We're searching for APs and Watchguard makes a head to head race with the Aruba Solutions for WiFi-APs... To compare we need especially the realistic range of the accesspoints wifi. Of course, we're trying to do mesh-networking, but having better ranges results in fewer needed APs.

Hi, im currently looking forward to buying a new access point for my home wifi. Since my router is located in the basement and my room is directly under the roof I can't use my routers wifi (provided from my ISP) that frequently. Only a hand full of devices are connected to the routers wifi. I have an access point located in my room which is serving wifi to basically anything in my house. 2 TVs, 4 Smartphones, 1 Tablet, 1 Laptop, Google Home, Chromecast, PlayStation, Radio.... This is the product I currently use. https://www.tp-link.com/de/products/details/TL-WR802N.html I choose it because of the small formfactor, low cost and because it was able to transmit up to 300 Mbit/s. As it turned out it only has an Fast Ethernet port... So its basically capped at 100 Mbit/s to my LAN devices and 300/2 = 150 Mbit/s to devices in the same wifi if i understand this correctly. I had a similar product from "hama" in use before. It was even a little bit smaller. Both APs have the same problem. Sometimes (most likely every 2 or 3 weeks; sometimes its happening multiple times a day) it looses connection (I'm not really aware of why its happening) to all devices (or to the router im not really sure). My phone (and all the other android devices i tested) start showing a "!" next to the signal strength after i try to access the internet. When i try to reconnect my devices they are not able to. Important information: Its NOT my ISP being unreliable. I can indeed use my LAN or the routers own wifi to connect to the Internet. I have 2 ideas whats happening: 1. The AP is unstable because of the number of devices connected to it. Since its a small and low cost product i think its possible. 2. My AP looses connection to the router?! Its connected via two switches to the router which might not be the way to go but its needed in my house because of the "cabeling" my father and i did, but i think it should still work perfectly fine (it does most of the time; 95% of the speeds claimed by my ISP). If my AP looses connection to the router there is no way my devices can reconnect because it has no own DHCP server. So my phone wont get a new IP. This would explain the "!" on my phone. "!" meaning no Internet connection but still connected to network. (correct me if "!" means something else) And its not able to reconnect because its not possible to get a new internal IP. I don't really now why number 2 would occur but two many devices for a small AP might be a reason for most problems i guess. Is the construction of my home network the reason (2 switches between router and AP)? I think the next step would be trying to transfer files from my laptop (Wifi) to my PC (LAN in the switch closer to the AP) and check if local transfer works and only the connection to the router is broke. If the count of devices might be a reason are there any APs or routers (used as AP) you would recommend? Since stability means much to me (and my family) at this point i would spend around 80-90€ max. I dont need any router technology or features: I think of the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B016K4GQVG/ My criteria (most important upfront) : - stability - speed (up to at least 300 Mbit/s; Gigabit LAN port) - range - nice looks (its in my room) - 5 GHz - small? I would appreciate it if you would give me some suggestions why my wifi might be unstable and suggest some new APs or Routers i can use as an AP. Hey LTT forum users, I just bought a Synology NAS for 2 HDDs (DS216j), a new gigabit switch (Netgear GS608 v4) and a new Access Point (TP-Link TL-WR802N N300). Using a wired connection between my PC and my NAS I can achieve speeds around 600Mbit/s. I think the limiting factor here might even be the old HDDs in the NAS, but prove me wrong if you want. If you have any tips for the wired connection just tell me but its not the main question of this thread. The main problem is the wireless connection. If I connect the XPS 15 to the Access Point which is capable of a 300Mbit/s connection and try to move data from and to the NAS via the gigabit switch the speed is limited to around 12MB/s (100Mbit/s). I'm not really knowing much about network connections, but I'm thinking of something that kinda made sense in my mind: The descreption of Network Switches often contains something like this: "10/100/1000 MBit/s" My assumption might be totally stupid but I'll tell it you anyway: Does "10/100/1000 MBit/s" mean that these ports only have those speed options? So port 5 senses my AP not being capable of Gigabit but of 100Mbit/s and so it takes the 100 and ignores anything in between? If i check the connection status menu it tells me: "Übertragungsrate: 300,0 MBit/s" (speed 300 Mbit/s). To prove my assumption my next step would be to take another laptop and try to move data via the wireless network and check if the speed is around 300 Mbit/s, but I just have 1 laptop. Can I do something like this with an smartphone and my laptop? Is there anything I can do about this? I'm really hoping that you can help me. (Please excuse my bad english. I was having 3 (4G LTE) connections to my home, each of from different service provider. I usually use them separately as each has it's own wifi hotspot devices. I was thinking is there a way that I could put all 3 of my sim into one device with will give me 3 times the speed of 4G. which can be given to any of the wifi routers to transmit as wifi. I see an advantage in this setup as we are using 3 different service provider there will be no internet failure or drop in speed. Anyone can suggest a product or a DIY solution or comments or suggestion.

hi , i just build a new pfsense router i get it for pretty cheap 30$ complete working pc but , the motherboard didnt have a wifi slot , and the pci on motherboard i use for a intel lan card so do you have a solution of best bang for the buck for a new/refurb/used ap ? i prefered for a 2.4ghz and 5 ghz , but 2.4ghz will work fine i have only $50 bucks currently im using linksys e2500 in bridge mode , do you thing that's better ?

hello, i live in an area, where there is no cable internet, but there is a school nearby with wifi, i talked to them of having access to it, and they agreed, but i have to do all the work in my part, i mean i they wouldn't change anything in their current setup,, the distance is ~200 meter air, so any ideas what do i need for to make it working, like antena/ access point..etc. any help is much appreciated.

Hello Friends, I am looking for solution for my office to get Internet working for 30-35 users. We have two ISP providing 8 Mbps each. Here's what I thought so far : TP Link 470t+ load balancer to have load balancing of Two Internet connections. EAP110 as AP for get them connect via WIFI. Requirement : We need a solution that should good and not expensive at the same point to handle 30-40 users only wireless and can also serve for two internet connections. i am from India .just FYI. Max budget 6-7k INR.
