  1. S A N D W A S P This my first time documenting a system build in this sort of format. I've been building my own systems for years but never really evolved much beyond the "buy a load of components and throw them in a system" until 3-4 years ago when I built what I suppose was the first incarnation of Sandwasp- A Corsair C70 Vengeance with some small custom tweaks (smoked side panel, PSU shroud), a 5820K and GTX1080 and lots of black/grey/yellow detailing which looked something like this I've kept with the colour theme over the years, most recently rebuilding it into a Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL along with some custom cables from Shakmods and SP120 fan rings I've sprayed to match the colour scheme. Spec Intel Core i7 6900K (4.2GHz/1.265v) MSI X99A MPOWER EVGA Geforce RTX2080 XC 32GB Corsair Dominator DDR4-3000 I'd planned on doing my first custom loop, initially in the C70 then subsequently in the O11 and had started sourcing components for it, but other things got in the way and I always ended up selling off bits and never making the jump, but the combination of plenty of working-from-home time following the birth of our daughter and a rediscovered interest in DIY and tinkering has pushed me to actually have a proper crack at it. There's going to be a lot of first for me in this build- first time having proper custom components made up, first time loop planning. Like just about everyone else with an O11 XL I'm going to be using a distro plate; the twist is that I'm hoping to use a custom plate modelled after the EKWB G1 but modified to allow the use of a D5 pump. Some enterprising fellow on GrabCAD by the name of Pedro Azevedo (shout out if you're a member on here) already produced a model for a modified version of the EKWB G1 configured for a D5 (https://grabcad.com/library/lian-li-pc-o-11-d5-pump-distro-1), which with some minor tweaks (such as addition of a rear fill port and countersinking) and a few cosmetic alterations is looking pretty ace. Currently getting quotes for production of the acrylic front/rear. The pump mount I'll probably have 3D printed in POM. The aluminium side cover will be laser cut, unlike the G1 it doesn't have a cutout for an RGB strip as I'm not intending on having any RGB in the system but I felt it looked a bit bare without it. The case will need minor modifications to fit- just two support brackets in the side being dremelled back. I've also started piecing together an I/O cover for the motherboard, initially using Cardboard Aided Design (excuse the dust, it's very fine bentonite clay from the cat's litter tray and gets everywhere...so much for "no-dust"): And a quick and dirty WIP in Fusion360 with a bit of detailing Not totally happy, so will probably redo it. CPU block arrived from Germany. The planned spec looks something like this: CPU: Watercool Heatkiller IV Pro Acryl/Nickel GPU: Watercool Heatkiller IV Acryl/Nickel/Black Pump: XSPC D5 PWM Sata Distribution Plate: Custom version of EKWB G1 designed to fit a D5 instead of DDC pump Radiators: Assuming current supply issues sort themselves out, Hardware Labs nemesis GTX360 bottom and either GTX or GTS360 top (depending on clearance). If not, Corsair XR7/XR5. Fans: Undecided. Currently leaning towards Be Quiet Silent Wings 3, but if the promised Noctua Chromax A12x25 come out before then probably those. Tubing: EK-Tube ZMT 12x16 Matte Black Fittings: TBD, probably EKWB Coolant: Mayhem's Pastel Yellow Other ideas that I'm still deciding on: > Motherboard armour > Etching the glass panels > A second RTX2080 > Moving to X299/i9-10920X
  2. AMD Ryzen - Leaked Ashes Of The Singularity Benchmarks at 4.0GHz When it comes to benchmarks of benchmarks of the Ryzen CPU's, we have been seeing quite a few of then, the one sketchier than the other. Recently a user by the quite ironical name of "AMD_FanBoy", posted some AOTS benchmarks featuring: Yes! A Ryzen CPU! (what else, right!?) According to wccftech they were posted to the AOTS database, but quickly removed. Luckely for us, someone managed to screenshot it in time! According to this benchmark we are dealing with an 8 core / 16 treaths variant of the Ryzen lineup. If you look at the CPU's suffix in the benchmark we can also see it sais "40/36" which would indicate the CPU is running at a 3.6GHz base and $.0 GHz boost clock as also stated by wccftech in their article. As fot the Benchmark itself, it was ran on "Crazy [4K]" and the settings as shown in the picture below. What's interesting however is that the GPU used here is an NVidia Titan X and not an AMD card. While we can ofcourse never been 100% sure, this means there is a good chance these benchmarks came from a thirth party, possibly a reviewer or AIB. Yes, this could aslo be a play from AMD and we will probably never know for certain, but it is a nice lead and on top of that I really hope AMD doesn't name themselfs "AMD_FanBoy" on the webs (but hey who knows :P). Now These benchmarks look prety decent, right?! Well when I saw this on wccftech I was REALLY interested to see how this would compare to some CPU's from Intel's lineup, and so I set out for an epic journey across Google to find some AOTS benchmarks! This proved slightly more difficult than I hoped, since most AOTS benchmarks on the Intel CPU's were in 1080 which is very understandable. After a good while though I stumbled across what might be the closest comparrison we could get our hands on. It uses the same card (a Titan X), was done on "Crazy [4K]" with almost identical settings. The only exception is that "Half-resolution terrain" was enabled unlike in the Ryzen benchmark. For comparisson I got you guys the benchmarks on the I7 69050 and then for the more game oriented users I also got the 6700K and what it showed kinda supprised me! Sadly I couldnt find $K AOT benchmarks for The 6900k or the 7700k, so if anyone finds them, feel free to link them! (The Intel benchmarks were taken from overclockers.ua) 6950x: 6700k: As you can see from the benchmarks, the 8 Core/16 Treath Ryzen CPU Is holding it's own against Intels 10 core hyperthreaded 6950x. As a matter of fact it is outpreforming this $1500+ CPU (be it barely). Now ofcourse the 6950x is not really a CPU you would get for your next gaming rig, because of its price but mainly also because that is not the main market its aimed at. Still, I thought it was quite a fun fact to mention and with the lack of 6900k benchmarks I thought I'd throw it in here to at least show some comparison to an Intel CPU with a higher core count. Then comes the comparison that I found most interesting and other gamers along with me probably do too: The Ryzen vs the 6700k! Now if we take a look at the graph below we can see the lineup of Ryzen CPU's that leaked out recently, this specific shot taken from Hardwareinfo. So, What we know is we are dealing with an 8 core/16treath Ryzen CPU. The benchmarked one is Clocked at 4GHz boost speed. Well as we can see there is not 1 CPU running 4GHz so it's most likely an overlock, leaving us with the cores and treaths to narrow down the possible CPU's. This means it could be any one starting from the AMD R7 PRO 1700 upto the R7 1800X and according to this that means its ment to compete with at least the 7700 (non k!) and at most the 6900k! But wait? What is this benchmark? The Ryzen CPU we see here is being outpreformed by the 6700k. And looking at the suffix it's running a 4.0GHZ, that is factory clock speeds for the intel vs an OC for the Ryzen! So here we can see that the 6700k is winning with anything a 16.1 all the way upto a 40.9 FPS! Now sure, the Ryzen is running without half resolution terrain on and that could possibly close the gap a little, but that gap is quite significant. On top of that we are comparing a 6700k here and not even the newer 7700k which is one of the CPU's its supposed to compete with according to AMD. To conclude all this I do want to point out that noone can ever be 100% sure about the origin of these images and therefor we can not guarantee that this is how the Ryzen lineup will preform on release. There have been many benchmarks that have been leaked over the past while and some of those show the ryzen CPU's beating the 7700k without too much efford. However I personally find these benchmark quite confincing, partially because of their origin likely not being at AMD themselves as is also mentioned by wccftech on their article. I am curious to see what benchmarks await us once these chips travel to reviewers all over the world for official release and I certainly hope that I'm on the wrong end when I'm thinking AMD may have once again marketed their hardware higher than what it can actually reached. And yes that opinion is partially based of these benchmark but also of past experiences with AMD, so dont weight them too strongly. What do you guys think of this? Do you think these are legit, or do you think they are flawed and AMD will finally bringus something as strong as they keep telling us it is? Regardless these benchmarks show that you can deffinately get away with running 4K games using the Ryzen CPU even if its being beaten by the 6700k, so at the very least if these are legit we are getting a gaming capable CPU out of AMD this year regardless of wether they were telling us the truth or not! Sources: http://wccftech.com/amd-ashes-ryzen-4-0-ghz-benchmarks/ https://www.overclockers.ua/news/hardware/2017-02-03/119681/ https://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/50984/volledige-line-up-amd-ryzen-processors-lekt-uit-topmodel-heet-ryzen-r7-1800x
  3. So, here's a question I need answered as thoroughly as possible. Assuming money is a non issue, which 8 core processor actually pulls ahead overall in features (to include their respective motherboard chip sets), processing power (to include gaming and video production on high bit rates), overclocking (on air and water), and theoretical longevity? The processors I'd like to compare here are the entire Ryzen 7 line-up (1800x, 1700x, 1700) and the 6900k. Again, assume money is a non-issue. I would like to also spark a discussion on how Ryzen might improve over time using actual data from previous new architectures that hit the market.
  4. Hey guys, I've tracked down two potential CPUs for a 4K editing workstation/gaming build and I was hoping for some insight from those who have tried them. On one hand I've found a 6950X for $1100, and 6900K for $700. I know I definitely don't need the 6950X, but for as good of a deal as it is should I snatch it? In other words, is it worth it at that price? Also, I don't love the X99 Deluxe-II but I want to do an Aura RGB build so can anyone recommend a good Asus x99 board with Broadwell-E support? Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone i'm a new member and i come here to ask you a question about a rad for my 6900k. Config : - i7 6900k - Asus Rampage V Edition 10 - 4*8GB DDR4 G-Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14 - Case Bequiet Dark Base Pro 900 I've got an AIO liquid cooler and it makes noise this is not good that's why i want to buy a "classic" rad for my CPU. I would like to buy the Baquiet Dark Rock TF ( top flow ) RAD for my CPU but is it fully compatible with the size of my case and the size of my RAM please ? Second and last question : Can i put this rad oriented at 90° with heat pipes on top an below ? Sorry if my English isn't so good. Thank you so much and have a nice day
  6. I'm thinking of building a PC some time in July next year. According to rumours, Skylake-X is supposed to come out at some point in Q2 2017. Would it be worth waiting until it's released, or would it be better to get the 6900k? Also, Skylake-X is rumoured to require an LGA-2066 motherboard, so would that make current X99 boards obsolete?
  7. Frig I hate upgrading. Just had to get that out of the way Last upgrade was Oct 2008 (just over 8+ years) and I don't really fallow computer hardware trends that much between upgrades so I end up having to relearn a bunch of stuff come time to upgrade. Me mind is going all mushy If you are TLDR adverse read Intro then skip down to bottom. Intro ------------ /Sigh time for some TLDR. First a little background about myself. I'm a self taught programmer of 30+ years going back to MSDOS. I currently don't really make any money programming but hoping to change that … eventually. Although I consider myself a gamer I have not really been playing to many games these last few years. Mostly simple games like Utopian Miner, Agar.io, Solitair, Duck Tails, Brutal Doom. Simple games that don't require a huge time investment. I also played World of Warcraft from late BC to end of WoD 5/3/15 but grew disinterested, because various reasons and my system can't play it at max settings & addons, getting sluggish frame rates. Again 2008 system can't exactly play DOOM 4 at ultra settings,. so have not been playing any recent games. GTA IV was very sluggish. And much as my steam library keeps growing with never played games, THANK YOU LORD GABIN, THANK YOU SO DAM MUCH! #TwoFingerEyePoint #SteamSales #Sarcasm, VR may get me playing larger games that require a longer investment of time. And I very much would like to dabble in VR development as I have some ideas I'd like to play around with. My current 2008 system specs can be found here https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/createdbyx/saved/#view=smNqsY I started using google spreadsheets to list off all the various upgrades I was interested in but it quickly became too cumbersome when I started trying to mix and match items. Spreadsheet available here (out of date don't use as reference) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x5doU2-TaIgSKVsjjt_XGTNq7un7_iKPSmzte-eLcEs/edit?usp=sharing So then I figured I would just write a WPF app to help me decide what hardware to go with. It's not helping either and is leading me to suffer the dreaded Analysis paralysis. Cost Calculator app available as attached file (Works but still beta, ask if it does not work for u, Windows 7+, WPF & .NET 4 etc) CostCalculatorDataNew.xml is my current dataset as of Nov 14, 2016 Fanboy much? ---------- Quick note about AMD/Nvidia/Intel, I don't consider myself a fanboy of any company, but traditionally I have only went with AMD parts CPU and GPU all the way back to 2000's. I have gone with AMD all these years because I understand what can happen if AMD were ever to tank. You think Intel prices are high? How high would they be with out AMD keeping them in check. I mean who else is there that has the resources to get into the CPU/GPU game? Qualcomm? Hah, das funny. My point is I have gone with AMD not because they offer the best of the best parts but because they offer a decent cost effective alternative to there competitors. Without them I fear what could happen. So for the last 2-3 years I've been hearing about AMD's ZEN and have held off upgrading these last few years so that I can purchase a Zen cpu but go figure here I am again with money in the bank for a upgrade and Zen is no where to be found. Pushed back til sometime 2017 and as of yet Nov 2016 with no real hardware in the hands of reviewers other then one controlled blender benchmark. I'm sorry AMD but it's time for me to upgrade, I've waited and been waiting and your offerings are too little to late. I suspect high end Zen chips will still not be able to compete with the likes of a 6900K or just barely. And heard rumors of $300-$400 price? I can't see them releasing a enthusiast CPU that can compete with a 6950X or Xeon. It sucks but it is what it is. Perhaps in another 6+ years I'll go back to a AMD offering but for this upgrade cycle it's not looking good. About Programming --------------- I have 23Gigs of compresssed (*.zip) json files that I have downloaded from the blizzard world of warcraft auction house API. From Dec 2013 to Dec 2014. Was going to use it for my Wowtracks website so I can perform an analysis of economic changes both before and after the realm merges that blizz was doing. Thought it be interesting to see how a realm merge affected the economy of a server. But uncompressed it's like 100Gb and would require painful amounts of processing time. I am also writing a search app to parse through it and ask questions etc. Not even gonna attempt it with my current system as I'll be dead and buried before I get back any results. I also would like to start getting more into Genetic algorithms (specifically terrain generation, procedural game worlds), been dabbling with them a bit but again it can require a lot of processing, and take a long time, and greatly benefits from more cores if coded right. I also need to develop some unity3d related code that requires a whole lot of processing time. Because my system is unable to play modern games I have been spending most of my time programming my various projects. It spend virtually 7 days a week coding, and usually up til 4am & sometimes 7 am. Stupid primate body always having to waste time sleeping and pewpin and stuff Current 2008 system ----------- Although it has served me well, my $3200 2008 system is showing it's age. Running VS.NET 2015 with a few extensions, and a 240 project solution can be unbearably slow at times, and even doing simple actions, takes 1-2 seconds where back 2008 there was no waiting, almost all tasks were instant and no lag. Last big game I played was GTA IV and even on low settings it was sluggish, probably CPU bound. Have not bought any new games last few years because can't run em at max settings. got a GTX 660 hand me down from my brother but yeah, twas not an upgrade. Ran Steam VR test and said CPU was good but I don't trust it given my experience. See attached screen shot. Because Reasons: ------------ Processor: 6 Core minimum 6850K & 10+ Cores prefered E5-2640 V4 / E5-2697 V3 / E5-2690 V4 -> For your average Gamer/Power user a 6700K from what I'm reading is more then enough, but for me the more cores I can get my hands on the better. 6700k-6800k 28 PCIE lanes, and only 4-6 cores makes me uneasy as I don't think it can stand the test of time IE: 8+ year upgrade cycles. 10-14 Core chips I think will hold up much better long term for programming, video editing etc, but may suffer long term for gaming in terms of there slower clock speeds & single core performance. On the other hand DX12 looks to improve multicore gaming perf and 6+ years down the line having those extra cores could prove beneficial and may not be a bottle neck after all. Kind of a toss up. Going with a 10+ core system means making sacrifices. Not costly sacrifices just undesirable ones aka no VR! /SadFace. BTW I believe the E5-2697 V3 is what linus used in the 7 gamers 1 pc build so I know it can play modern games. Video Card: Minimum RX 480 (or crossfire) but GTX 1080 preferred not because Nvidia fan boy but because it's one of the best single card solutions available at the moment, Titan X too pricey for budget. RX 480 in crossfire is cheaper and basically on par with GTX 1080 performance but again 2 cards, double power usage, and if water cooled need 2 water blocks which adds cost. RX 480 PCI voltage drama a little while back and I'm hearing 1080 over heating/smoking on some cards don't give me a lot of confidence but what can you do when they are the only viable options /shrug If I get VR with my upgrade will need best GFX card I can get. Power Supply: I've got a Corsair TX850 watt. It's got plenty of power for any system I build, but again it's 8+ years old. How long can a power supply last? I'm a heavy computer user & on the computer every day multiple hours a day. Do I really want to trust a heavily used 8+ year old PSU with new (expensive) system components, and for how much longer before I upgrade it. I'm leaning towards a 1200-1500 watt PSU. I don't care about power bills, I care about dead silent operation under demanding CPU/GPU loads. 1200W and above seems like they don't kick in there fans until 40% power usage and my various components will probably be 400W to 550W putting it at basically that 40% power usage rate. Fa, la, la, la ,la,... la la la la: Christmas sales or boxing week sales? Buy now or wait a few more weeks? Decisions decisions. VR Gets & Deserves it's own dedicated section! ----------------------- Oh VR, the little technology that could. For you youngins out there us old geezers remember the day way back when. A time when Nintendo power magazine was the shit, the SNES was king and the internet was but a dream. A 56k dialup dream. Oh yes VR was not invented by the lucky palmer, but in fact has been a technology in development for many a decades. So why is it only gaining popularity now? Because it's only now that it actually makes sense from a hardware specs perspective. I made a blog post on my website where I laid down some of my thought about the recent state of VR. In that (more TLDR) blog post I lay out my concerns and the almost dejavu history of VR as we know it today. 20 Years ago I had the opportunity to buy a VR head set Forte VFX1 but never did. With the way things are going I fear VR is teetering on the edge of falling back into the abyss of oblivion. Only to be resurrected once again in the future. Again it's dejavu, here I am with the means to get into VR and here I am again on the fence. I hate that feeling. I HATE IT. Do I dive in, or do I wait. We are already seeing vr adoption rates plateauing according to steam surveys. If you are reading this you are already a technology inclined person. This is linus tech tips after all. So don't ever forget that you live in a technology bubble. So don't think VR is here to stay. It's way to early to call it. It's about the exercise! No, really. It really is. If you read through all this TLDR you know that I spend a lot of time on my ass. VR, especially room scale VR will get me off my ass and get active. Especially over the winter months up here in Canada where I don't get out side much. Summer time I'm out side cycling, swimming every other day. But sure would be nice come winter where I could stay active and play games to boot! I'm also wondering what the refresh cycle of VR is going to be like. Yearly, every 2 years? I'm already seeing revamps from both Oculus and Vive with wireless functionality, and new controllers, tweaked headsets. Given VR has been available for a few months now should I wait? Or say screw it and dive in nao. If I did get a VR helmet I think I would start making VR videos of various types. Certainly not what every one else is doing but something different from a programmers perspective. As for Vive or Oculus? Oculus: Room scale *beta*, Initially designed for seated experiences, no controllers til December, better designed controllers then vive in my opinion, Facebook #grumble #grumble stupid facebook, Flirting with DRM in the past, causing uproars/drama. What did you expect it's Facebook, aesthetically better overall look/feel/design! Vive: Room scale, comes with controllers, light houses, some researchers/articles claiming 0.3mm accuracy (lasers beh beh! pew pew), front facing camera, chaperone system, STEAM! Our lord and savior Gabin. Half-Life 3 confirmed & coming soon for VR. Don't act like it isn't! Really, Gabe, really? Kind of on the nose there partnering with HTC. HTC = Halflife Three Confirmed!. You want to sell a crap ton of headsets. Half life three confirmed. Aw yeah! Also I would love to start programming some VR stuff that I have been thinking about but kinda need a headset to do that. Very pricey head sets. See Sacrifices section. Sacrifices ------------ I'm willing to forgo a M.2 SSD, Power Supply, Quieter Case Fans, Water Cooling. Also willing to go air cooling and put up with more unbearable fan noise, *sigh* if I have to. I have a Surface Pro 2 and dam, the only thing I hear is the click of a mouse. Was really hoping to build a dead silent PC but we'll see. My current system is 2-3 feet away and is loud as *bleep* and very annoying. I really really really, perdy pweeze can i haz some VR? Pleace don't repeat your self history please don't. In some builds I sacrifice VR and put that money towards a beefier CPU and system, but no VR /cries *Some* Builds I'm considering -------------- All builds you see here are copied from the CostCalculator app i wrote. 8. Hi everyone, Today i updated windows to the fall creators update with Nvidia 387.92 drivers. And i updated the BIOS of my Rampage V E10 to the latest 1701 version. But after that my CPU goes to very high frequencies and voltage ! What this ? Is is dangerous ? before it did not do that ! ( 4*8GB Trident Z 3200MHz CL14 ) Intel tubo boot 3.0 is disable. Thank you
  9. Hello, I have a ASRock X99E-ITX/ac motherboard with a 6900k on it, a RX480 strix (since I don't play that much) and a SFX 650W PSU. But most importantly a kraken x62, dual 14mm fan watercooling AIO. Now the system is running into the motherboard box. Do you know any itx case that could take this AIO and still take advantage of the SFX PSU? Even with a little modding? Thanks in advance for your answers.
  10. Hey guys, So I have been waiting to upgrade my i7 3770k (@4.5GHz) for a while. But I have yet to see any decent options thus far. The 6700k doesn't seem to offer that much of a performance increase to be worth upgrading (not really talking about price-to-performance of the upgrade but just as a upgrade in general). I use programs like Unity3D editor, Unreal 4, Maya (on occassion), and I write different programs and such as I am a Game Developer. I am also a twitch streamer and the 3770k doesn't seem to cut it on more intense games where there is a lot going on in the game I am playing. I use X264 encoding as it produces the best quality, but it is also the most demanding of the CPU. I figured that 4 more cores were certainly do the trick for a better quality stream and would also help in the other programs or at least in multitasking with demanding tasks. I also play a lot of games (I realize in gaming alone the performance will probably be about the same, that being said I feel sometimes I am CPU limited having two 980ti's in sli). I also just read that Skylake-x should be coming out around may (ish?) would it be better to wait for that? Do you guys think I would see a big improvement in the programs/purposes I listed? Thanks guys!
  11. hi i have a question about PCIe version in intels 6900K CPU,,, according to intel site the PCIe version for 6900k CPU is Gen 3 http://ark.intel.com/products/94196/Intel-Core-i7-6900K-Processor-20M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz#@specifications we know that the 6900k uses the X99 chipset and this time according to intel site again the PCIe version for X99 chipset is Gen 2 !!! http://ark.intel.com/products/81761/Intel-X99-Chipset so what does it mean? The cpu supports Gen 3 but the chipset it uses supports Gen 2 !!! does it mean that the 6900k is actually bottlenecked by its chipset and it's not a true PCIe 3?
  12. From the title itself, it's seem unfair to compare Enermax T40Fit (dual fan) vs Cryorig R1 Ultimate. These 2 parts are from different tier according to this tier list, T40Fit is in tier 6 and R1 Ultimate in tier 2. And the price of R1 Ultimate is more than twice of T40F. Here in Indonesia, best price for T40fit is around 35 USD, and R1 Ultimate is around 82 USD (1 USD = 14481.75 IDR). Anyway here I just want to share what I got by upgrading T40Fit to R1 Ultimate. Maybe this is useful for somebody out there. My build for this comparison: i7-6900K RAM Corsair LPX DDR4-2400 32GB (4x8GB) ASUS X99 Sabertooth MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G PSU Corsair HX750i Case: Corsair Carbide 400C Fan: 3x12cm at front (pull), 1x14cm at top (push), 1x12cm at back (push) Thermal paste: Arctic MX-4 Test condition: Tested using AIDA64, stress on CPU+FPU+cache+GPU for ~30 mins Temperature read from AIDA64 on CPU Package Hyperthreading: OFF Inter Turbo Boost 3.0: ENABLED Tested each in 2 freq: stock (auto freq, XMP: OFF) and overclocked (at 4.2 GHz, XMP: ON) Tested each in 2 time: after midnight (room temp 25-26 C) and afternoon (room temp 30-32 C) Room temp measured using desk digital clock+temperature+humidity, put in front of case (the manufacture said temp accuracy is 1 C). Sorry, no air conditioner in my room... All fan curve tuned by AI Suite 3 (thermal tuning). That's the point, right? I don't want to run them in constant full speed, because it's not the real condition when I use it for work and gaming. Result: Discussion: Yes, your cooler performance is very dependent to your room temperature. As other electronic products in this planet, twice the price doesn't mean twice the performance. If you work in controlled room temp, and you can maintain it below ~30 C, Enermax T40Fit dual-fan is "enough" even if you overclocked it to 4.2 GHz, as long you can provide enough air from inflow/intake fan. Maybe you need to upgrade to tier 1 or 2 air cooling products if you want to overclock more, or if you are working in slightly hot room. Not temperature-controlled room, usually have more dust. Air cooling is better option since it easy to clean, assemble and disassemble, troubleshoot, etc.
  13. I have a Asus Strix X99 Gaming motherboard, with a 6900k in it. Until recently, it ran without any problems at 4 GHZ. but since i had to do a hard reset, it seems that i am not able to overclock it anymore. I can put in the values in the BIOS, and they are still showing up after a reset, but it seems that it doesn't work. Both Cpu-Z and windows task manager shows it at 3.7, it's max boost clock. I have tried reseting the BIOS, and changing the settings, but i am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
  14. Hello! I have had enough of my PC crashing. It's so annoying so I came here for help. I get random crashes. First my screen freezes but the sound continues (even my Discord is running - I hear my friends in the call), then my screen turns black and I hear the crash sound ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtqdbS0YFvo ) It then boots right up like if nothing happened. I then go to Computer Management -> System Scheduler -> Even Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System and I see a few different logs. I have attached those to this thread. What I've tried already: 1. 15 different version Video Drivers 2. A different PSU (Swapped PSUs with my brother - he gets no issues but I still do) 3. I tried with 1, 2, 4, and 8 sticks of RAM. 4. I have no Over Clocking (Not GPU nor CPU) 5. Updating BIOS 6. Made sure I had the latest Windows updates I have tested it in several games including PUBG, Fortine, Far Cry 4 and 5 (lost it when I crashed on FC5), GTA, I stress tested my PC with 3D mark for 6 hours straight, Bioshock infinite, even Minecraft (blowing up a LOT of TNT to test my CPU) The only ones that crash are PUBG and Far Cry 5. Since those are the games I most play, it renders it unplayable because of how much I crash.... Any ideas?
  15. hey everyone my pc doesn't boot since yesterday,,,the cpu is 6900k overclocked to 4.4 and it was stable for a year... since yesterday there is no post and bios load...when turned on all fans and motherboard run but no signal to monitor...also the cpu led on motherboard is turned on... i tried swapping rams and reseating the cpu but it didn't work... does this mean my cpu is dead?
  16. Hello! I have a quick question about the hexa-core and up i7s intel offers. I'm a new content creator and gamer trying to get into a youtube "carrer". It's just something i've always wanted to do because I find it fun, but I don't really plan on making MONEY off of it as it's not a necessity for me. I game, record my gameplay, use a browser at the same time, so I decided to look into an enthusiast grade CPU because I know that the 6700k isin't really for that. My question is, is it worth it to go for the 5960X, 6900k, or 6950X for what I'm trying to do? So far I have bought: 2 x GTX 1080s 64GB 3200 MHz RAM 1000W Corsair PSU (I have lots of fittings and hardline tubing, you know where I am going with this) Thanks!

  20. After a long wait I'm pretty excited and want to get my hands on the i7-6900K. That's some crazy performance if all 8 cores can hit 3.7GHz and higher with OC.
