Hi all, I'm currently looking to get smth for my living room, however, the way it is designed it doesnt allow for any floor speakers or wall mounted. I was thinking into getting cealing speakers as i have drywall ceilling so it would be the best option for creating smth like 5.1 or 7.1. Please advise me for best scenerios or actual brands and systems. Thank you in advance.

I am stuck, so I figured I'd bring this to the LTT community. I use an Alienware R12 (with Win 11) as my daily driver. Because it has a "Coaxial" SPDIF connection (via RCA) I dug out a hand-me-down AV Reciever (Pioneer HTD-510 -- I'm using newer speakers) that accepts a coaxial input. (I'm NOT using TOSLINK) I finally got the chance to set up the Center, and Rear speakers for the setup, and I have configured it in the receiver to know the (approximate) locations of all the speakers. I started to test it, by opening Paramount+ (the app) and streaming Top Gun: Maverick, where the surround sound works AMAZING! However, in games, and everything except a select few streaming platforms, all I get is stereo. Under the "Properties" tab for the audio device, I have DTS Audio and Dolby Digital enabled, and it works for the built-in audio test. It DOES NOT give me any option to "configure" or "set up" surround sound. Suppose I launch Forza, or anything else (anything that's supposed to work with surround). In that case, I am stuck with stereo (unless I have the receiver attempt to "fake" surround from the incoming stereo signal). Although this isn't the biggest deal (I don't game as much as I would like to, and I enjoy the shows in 5.1)--I would like to have a full surround while gaming and/or using the computer too. I have installed all of the latest drivers and software from Dell's website, and nothing has changed. All of the websites regarding a similar issue, everyone is using TOSLINK, which I understand that it has a limited bandwidth capability and that a proper Coaxial RCA connection (like I'm using) should be able to achieve what I want. Before someone suggests spending money on new parts (another soundcard or receiver) I'd like to try to fix this first. I had the parts lying around and decided to try to set it up. It works GREAT when it works, and from some quick Google-ing, it sounds like a software problem over hardware, as it's been proven to function properly. This has been quite frustrating, so any advice you may have would be HIGHLY appreciated! I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hey guys/gals, I know this is probably a question that's been asked a billion times, but I've literally not bought a 5.1 speaker setup since 2005. I have an ancient Altec Lansing 5.1 that I literally duct-taped the housing on the subwoofer twice to remove rattling on, and it's sounded fantastic until developing a bit of a rattle again recently. I think it's time to find areplacement, simply because age is not doing the wires any justice. My budget is malleable, I'd prefer to keep things under $250 if possible. Brands, I'm open to suggestions. I've got an ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-H board that'd I'd love to take full advantage of, in case I haven't been so far. The audio on it has been fantastic, both with speakers and on my Logitech headset. Sorry if this is a common "Ugh, not another post like this" post, but I've been out of hunting for PC speakers for... what, 18 years? So my knowledge is 2005-ish. Thanks in advance for any help offered! I'll check back on this later tonight as time allows. :>

How do I know whether my Motherboard supports 2.1 vs 5.1 surround sound systems? Manual says next to nothing about the actual capabilities. Was thinking of purchasing this > https://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/z607-surround-sound-system as a surround system throughout my room. Not sure if it requires a sound card or simple audio jacks / Bluetooth. Any help appreciated. (photo of my audio jacks of my motherboard MSI X570 Gaming Edge WiFi) Any and all help appreciated, cheers.

I remember having Logitech X530. with windows 7 it was plug and play. surround sound awesome. So nowadays, I just acquired Edifier S760d. I'm finally back into 5.1 surround sound. but wait, it's not plug and play anymore isn't it? it's plug and troubleshoot for hours and still no play. I use Sound Blaster Omni sound card.(laptop no bueno) https://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-omni-surround-5-1 Yes, i installed the drivers for it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers (and yes i know how to connect physically everything correctly and double checked restarted the computer. turned off and on the speakers While in sound device properties, speaker test passes, all channels play correspondingly. but, while consuming content the surround sound is being played in through front speakers, while rear speakers are silent. yes, I have googled, tried many of the suggestions. without any luck while googling I found a lot of people have that problem from 2015 and even beginning of the win10 era I set audio format to 24bit/96khz and or Dolby Digital Live (DDL from now on) also while in sound device properties and advanced tab, there is no option for 5.1 only 2 channels or DDL but I set 5.1 in the Sound Blaster software. what the hell has happened, I remember al the volume sliders for different channels, they are not present anymore. yes I know DDL is basically compression method which is mandatory to use 6 channels in one optical cable. ( is it possible that Dolby Digital Live and Dolby Digital aren't compatible ... but then again I also tried analogue cables as well, same result, ah yes all three of them, and yes correctly and correspondingly. I tried all the audio formats. also also Enabling Dolby Pro Logic on the speakers doesn't do anything either. any help is very appreciated stay safe

Helloo, I have a 5.1 audio system which works in general, but not on my current configuration from god knows what reason, and that's why I'm here, to get some help. The audio system is a Genius SW-5.1 3000, motherboard is a Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX. OS is Windows 10 Pro 19042.906 . I configured it in "mmsys.cpl" to a 5.1 surround, I pressed Test and everything works. I opened YouTube, I hit Play on my Playlist, and surprise, it only works in Stereo (Front Left and Front Right Speakers). No Center/Subwoofer, no Rear Speakers. Tried a couple of games and in some seems to be working, but other than that... no. Before upgrading the computer, I used a Dedicated Audio Card, Asus Xonar, and I used to have surround everywhere. Reinstalled my drivers after doing a clean uninstall of them, but the problem persists. Installed Realtek Audio Console to have more control, but no luck with it. Played a bit with the settings in Audio Console and I found a few things: if I activate Bass Management, then the subwoofer works but it's tied to the front speakers. If I test them, the subwoofer makes sound as well. if I activate and Environment effect, then the subwoofer makes a bit of sound. Just barely. if I assign every port to Front Speakers and change the Speaker Configuration to Stereo, then every speaker will work but it will become tied to the front speakers. Bellow you can see how I assigned my Back Panel. I tried switching them around but it still doesn't work. I'm totally out of ideas.

I am trying to setup a 5.1 speaker system with a receiver (Sony STRDH590) to my desktop. I tried to connect the computer and the receiver together via an optical audio cable. When I turned the receiver on it played music, however the left and right sounds where only coming out. I later found out that the optical audio on the computer only supports Left and Right speakers. The only way to use 5.1 sound from my computer are the 3.5mm ports for the speakers in a 5.1 setup. My receiver does not have individual inputs for speakers, so I want to have the input be optical audio. I have a Sound Blaster Recon 3di to process sound to the receiver. I looked for drivers the supports 5.1 optical audio, but I found nothing. If anyone has any ideas how I can move forward feel free to drop a comment. Thanks

OK guys I am kind of out of my element..and used, cheap or no money is the name of the game here.. I just moved into a new house just moved into a new house that has 4 ceiling 4 ceiling installed speakers in the living room. I currently have a Samsung 43nu6900b paired with a Samsung HWh550 2.1ch I am wanting to make them work together! I know a bit about audio, I am aware I will need a receiver to active the ceiling speakers. I guess I'm wondering, if I can use ARCH(is that how it works via hdmi??) to a receiver from the TV through the sound bar (via hdmi) Tv>sound bar + wireless sub>receiver <ceiling speakers Should I also use the TV speaker along with the rest? How should it be configured? Lol.. is this right? Eventually I'd like to purchase other equipment. But, for now I'd love to use what I already have. 20210719_105314.heic 20210719_105311.heic 20210719_105305.heic 20210719_105302.heic

Hello all, im quite interested in setting up a 5.1 surround sound system for my room, which would be connected up to my pc. Now i was wondering if there is any way around buying an av reciver and maybe being able to use something else in order to be able to still hvae the same 5.1 sourround sound effect. Ive seen some things online, on various videos such as what looks to be some sort of subwoofer with 5 channel support. If there is no way around not using an av reciever, it would be greatlly apprieciated if somebody could recommend an av reciever thats quite slim and isnt to expensive. preferablly uner 150 quid. But has to have 5 channel support so i can have the centre speaker, the 4 satellite speakers and the subwoofer thanks in advance George

Hello to anyone seeing this I have a pretty old PC running Win10. I just got some stuff from my dad, his old Sony TV and his Harman Kardon 5.1 AVR. I put one of the HDMI outputs from my GPU to the AVR input, then sent the AVR output to the TV. Then configured the playback device to be 5.1 Surround and the AVR to 5channel auto. I ran into two issues. Funnily, the surrR and surrL speakers are mixed up. I'm using the configure menu to play sounds on each individual speaker for testing (image below). I tried swapping these weird exposed copper cables in the back between SL and SR multiple times but it doesn't output the right sounds still. These cables have no proper cable heads and just go into this hole in the back held in by a latch. There's one for every speaker labeled appropriately. The second issue is that when I tried playing a youtube surround test video, (similar sample testing videos), only L,R,C and the subwoofer show output. Chrome and Edge both ignore the surround speakers altogether (youtube, netflix etc). I'm very new to home theaters and TVs altogether so please shed some light onto these matters if you have a sec please. Thank you!

I just bought Logitech z906. I tried to connect to a 5.1 channel. Windows is only recognizing it as a stereo speaker. If I configure it as 5.1 center Chanel and back Chanel is so low, also I can hear front speaker when I try to play the rear speaker.

Hi, so I recently purchased a TV (a Samsung TU7020 to be exact) and while it does not have RAC out or AUX out, it does have Optical and eARC. Doing a bit of digging I found (through this website : https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/5-1-surround-audio-passthrough ) that it should support passthrough of 5.1 sound through the optical and HDMI. The question is what do I need to put between my TV and my 5.1 system (which is a Logitech Z607 ) to make it work. Ideally I would like so that anything connected to the TV woud passthrough its audio through HDMI into the TV then into the speakers with the sound only comming out of them. Is this even possible ? If it is what are/is the best solution ? Thank you for any help you give me as I'm quite new to anything sound related that isn't a soundbar.

Hello, I noticed that my dads setup isn't capable of Dolby 5.1, but just L/R spread to 5.1... Connected devices that he wants to be 5.1 are: PS4 (PS5 in future) which has DIGITAL/OPTICAL (and maybe HDMI Dolby is possible too) Raspberry Pi 4 (has only HDMI...maybe there is some HAT add-on, but that's another spending) Set-top box/TV channels (not that important, but it would be cool - has HDMI and DIGITAL/OPTICAL OUT) I wanted to upgrade to other receiver as he doesn't want to swap speakers, because (and I quote) "they are just fine for me". But those speakers are 3 ohms and I couldn't find any receivers that support 3 ohm speaker sets. So I figured out that "new" (can be used) receiver and speakers are inevitable. But big ooof. Every listing for receiver I found and doublechecked it's manual...it turns out that they support audio over HDMI, but not how I want it. They take the audio signal and pass it to HDMI OUT (to the TV). Last affordable receiver I found is Sony STR-DG520 and it says this: So DIGITAL OUT from TV back to the receiver? It's messy, but okay...I will get my 5.1 aud~ ooooh nooo! Dad's TV outputs only 2.0 via OPTICAL...well, if I understand it correctly: Do I understand this correctly and this receiver won't have 5.1 audio that would be outputted from Raspberry over HDMI to receiver, which would pass it to TV? It would pass even the audio to TV and not to connected speakers...and if I connected DIGITAL OUT from TV to receiver, it would only send 2.0 channel audio? I'm willing to go for any receiver (+speakers either separately or with it) for 400$, but it has to work with previously mentioned devices on our Samsung TV (PS50A457P1DXXH) and allow us to finally enjoy 5.1. Is there a way to make it work with some receiver or is it necessary to upgrade even the TV? HDMI ARC is the new hot thing if I'm correct... Thanks a lot!

I use a logitech 5.1 speaker system paired with another logitech 2.1 speaker system to achieve 7.1 audio on my z77a-g45 motherboard. With both speaker systems there are 4 plugs total. Would I be able to use my current setup to achieve 7.1 with this sound card?

I am using mi tv 4a pro and connected my Dolby amplifier via digital coaxial cable from tv. When I use plex, it passes the audio through coaxial cable and I am getting Dolby 5.1 audio. But with apps like Netflix, I get only stereo audio. Mi website says this tv support dolby audio but I can't see 5.1 symbol in Netflix. I have a laptop however my amplifier doesn't have hdmi. Is there any way I can get 5.1 output from my tv from Netflix?

I am having some issues with my 5.1 surround sound set up. Please look at the hardware specs below to assist. The issue I am having is all to do with my subwoofer. When I enter the Realtek Audio Console, I can change the 3.5mm audio jack inputs for the monitors and for the sub. To get the sub to play anything, I have to change the blue audio jack, which the sub is plugged into, from "sub/center" to "headphone." Even then, I have to have the speaker configuration set to stereo instead of 5.1 surround. When I do change it to 5.1 surround, and launch into a game like COD, I lose all ability to hear vocal frequencies. I can hear gunshots, explosions, footsteps, but not any voice. The only solution I have found is to keep the sub as a headphone output and the speaker configuration as stereo. However, I believe that this is causing some audio quality loss as it isn't hooked up as a true subwoofer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Hi, I'm having a hard time describing the problem I have with my 5.1 home theater setup but here it goes : During a loud/high note part of someone talking, I will hear like a resonating sound/vibration/buzz, likes it's peaking but on the high frequency only, it's not like a harsh cut off like audio peaking would normally sound i thnink? With the little research I was able to do, I think the problem might be that the tweeter of the speaker is broken or something like that, but I can't seem to be able to remove the grill to check. So I'm thinking of buying only a new center channel speaker to replace it and hope it solves my proble. Or do I need to buy like a whole new set of 5.1 speakers? The center speaker is (and the rest of the set) : Samsung PS-AC720s My AV receiver that I bought like a year or two ago (recommandation from this forum!) : Yamaha AX-V385 I'm thinking of grabing the Sony SS-CS8 center channel speaker since there's currently a deal on it for cyber monday. I guess I could also buy the matching left and right channel speakers to match with it if I really need to, but I hope I could at least keep the surround sound ones and the subwoofer. Thanks, hope someone can help me!

Hey guys, new member here. I have my PC setup with 5.1 audio through a DVD/Home Theater (Panasonic SA-PT480) I bought it secondhand from a bankrupted store (they were using as display), so it was "cheap" but still pretty expensive to me. The DVD player stopped working, did some electric sounds on the speakers and died, so... I was wondering if I could bypass the DVD player (with is pretty banged up) directly to the speakers, some kind of 5.1 audio card or something. Here are some pics of the player, speaker plugs, etc. I connect the PC to the DVD player with an optical audio cable.

I just built a new computer and got a motherboard that had an optical port built into the board. I had my old system hooked up to my a/v receiver and it worked fine. After hooking up my new receiver I can't get 5.1 to work on my a/v receiver. It's only sending a stereo signal. I then hooked up a Xonar GDX and tried the same thing. I can go to the sound settings and configure the system for 5.1 and apply it but it still only sends a stereo signal. I have also updated drivers for the Xonar card. Can anyone help figure out what I'm doing wrong. It's got to be one of those obvious but I have been looking at it for so long I'm getting tunnel vision!

Hi everybody, I am currently using a Razer Tiamat 7.1 for 5years almost 6, so far i have never had any kind of problem, i mean i had one but i got over it, ear cushions had a lot of use and needed to change them and doing that was kind of a problem since razer does not sell them. Now i am having some problems with my mic, people who i am playing / talking to hear me fine but for a few seconds the mic gets really bad and people dont understand what i am saying. I have looking for a new headset to buy, will take my time to buy it since i am getting a speedlink clip on from a friend and will do the job just fine. I want a headset with a good sound ( 7.1 preferably ) and wireless ( always wanted one of these). My budget goes up to 150$-170$. Thanks everybody for reading this , and sorry for the wasted time. Cheers!

So I bought myself a Vizio sb3851, which is a Soundbar with a wireless Sub and two rear speakers (aka 5.1 surround sound). Thought I doing 5.1 surround sound which using HDMI-ARC (from the hdmi, through the tv, and into the sounbar). Found out that using HDMI ARC wasn't giving me real surround sound, just a fake surround sound that Vizios technology gave me. I did some research online and it said that there are two ways of getting surround sound out of a PC. One is using an optical cable (which I used from my port on my z87 maximus vi formula motherboard) to connect to the Soundbar, and wham.... Surround sound. Not really... The PC recongized this as surround sound, but my speakers were only playing throught the soundbar (aka front right and left) and the sub. Did more research and found that using optical cables will not play uncompressed 5.1 The other method was supposed to be using an HDMI cable to connect the GPU and the Soundbar directly. Unfortunately my HDMI port on my GTX 1080 is being occupied to power the 4k TV. I tried using a displayport to HDMI adapter, hoping one way another it would work. It did not help in relaying audio, or displaying 4k @ 60hz. I realized then, that I have a left over GTX 770 that I could use as a physix card, and this might be able to act as my hdmi audio. And... it is still not working. (The GTX 770, though recognized by the PC, is not showing up as an audio device). Does anyone have an other solutions? Else, any recommendations on soundcards?

Hello everyone. I'm starting research for a new build. While looking at Mini ITX motherboards, I noticed a lot of them have just a single audio line out jack (plus the standard mic and line in). I've never done an ITX build, so I didn't know if this was new or standard. They also say they support 5.1/7.1 surround sound. As far as I know, you can't get 5.1 sound from a single analog connection. So, here is my problem. I have a 5.1 surround sound system with the standard 3x3.5mm jacks for the 6 speakers. How do I go about connecting this system to a motherboard with only one analog line out connection? Here is one of the mobos I was looking at that made me wonder about this. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130929

However when using the Netflix app for windows 10, even when i have 5.1 audio selected, no sound comes out from the side speakers. Anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions???
