  1. Hello! I've built my new pc yesterday and I can't get it to post again. Here are the parts: - TR 2950X - ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA MOBO - 2x 8GB Corsair RGB RAM CMR16GX4M2D3000C16 - RI650W CORSAIR PSU - 500GB SAMSUNG EVO SSD The first time I tried it, everything went well, now nothing posts! The LEDs on the Mobo shot Yellow for RAM, then RED for CPU and then fails to boot. It writes CPU Code 00, then just Code 00. It worked once more afterwards, it was stables, I launched Memtestx86 and as soon as it started its tests, it crashed and not I can't get it to post. I've taken the CPU out and made sure no pins were bent, I've tried another PSU, tried one RAM stick in different channels, Flashbacked the BIOS.... Please help, I've tried everything. Thank you in advance.
  2. Hi guys, I encountered and issue and can't seem to find the solution. My PC had an Intel i7 6800k and its respective mobo, I just switch to an AMD 2950x, which I will use primarily for work but I also game on my PC. Everything seemed to be fine, I reinstall almost everything except for Windows and what I had on my SSD, however the thing is that I can't play any game as all of them crash as soon as I open them. I really hope any of you can help me Thank you.
  3. Hello everyone, im new to this forum and ive never used one before, im looking for advice or help because im building a Threadripper 2950x system, im interested on using the GIGABYTE X399 AORUS Xtreme (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G7CCG3N/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1#customerReviews) as my motherboard but i would like to know if it will support the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4-24000) C15 1.35V Desktop Memory (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N3GV5BH/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) Does anyone know if that motherboard would support the ram memory? Thanks
  4. Hey guys! I have to upgrade my workstation and I really need some help! My main use is for 3D modeling and rendering. I work with really heavy scenes and I use both CPU and GPU renderers. My computer remains on load almost 24/7 and I need something really reliable. I want to focus this upgrade on a new CPU. I’m thinking about a 2950x but It’s extremely hard to find a build to use as guide and I’m really no expert at all. What I need: -CPU: 2950x (Or other?) -Mobo that suports 4 GPU -Mem: at least 64gb but with possibility to upgrade to 128gb next year. -a reliable cooling system (water or air) but that allow me to use all the pci-e slots. Budget: 2000 Euros ideally, 2500 euros max. My my current build is: CPU: i7 4930K Mobo: ASRock X79 Extreme 6 Mem: 48Gb DDR3 1600mhz (6x8) GPU: 2 x TITAN X (maxwell) + 1x GTX1080 PSU: Corsair Aix1200i Case: Corsair 750D Obsidian Airflow Edition Thank you!!!
  5. I guess it is quite tight between the two of them. But what are your opinions? How low will the 1950x go in price after the 2950x hits the market? Benchmarks show that they are quite the same when it comes to performance?
  6. Hi,I have a two usb receivers plugged into two rear usb ports for keyboard and mouseAs soon as I plug in a usb drive the keyboard and mouse completely freeze. The usb drive opens in windows explorer though I am unable to use my mouse to do anything with it.The second I unplug the drive my mouse and keyboard are immediately usable again. I was having latency issues and installed some update drivers which solved the latency but now I have this problem.Any idea what is going on here? My front usb ports have also become unresponsive too.I am running AMD Threadripper 2950X // MSI 399x Gaming Carbon Pro// 32gb 3000mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM // NVIDIA GTX 1070 // 800w PSU // WINDOWS 10 PRO
  7. Hi All, Looking to upgrade my RAM keeping gaming performance as priority. My PC Specs are as follows: CPU : AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950x with CM Wraithripper cooler Mobo: MSI X399 Gaming pro Carbon AC GPU : Nvidia Zotac RTX 2080 Ti Memory: 2x16GB DDR4 G.Skill 3200Mhz Ripjaw V-series CL16 Hynix PSU: Coolermaster V1000 Vanguard 1000W 80+Gold Modular I am currently running dual channel 2x 16GB @ 3133 Mhz CL16 timings, but the gaming performance isn't that great. 20-30 FPS Drops at times with Hitman 2 & Witcher 3 at Ultra and wanted to upgrade as ryzen performs better with quad channel. My Ripjaws isn't B-Die so not able to push over 3133. I have read Threadripper/ryzen prefers speed over cas and I am looking at 3600 MHz or more Samsung B-die chips. Worst case I can still configure at 3466 Mhz . I have gone through recommendations for threadripper all over the internet and came to a conclusion with the below options. Wanted to have a second opinion on what to buy (made a mistake going for ripjaws earlier). Budget is upto 600$ and want a quad channel 4x8GB ram combo. Option 1: G.SKILL TridentZ (4 x 8GB) 3600 Mhz CL16 Model F4-3600C16Q-32GTZKK (16-16-16-36) @ 399$ https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232584 Findings: - Samsung K4A8G085WB-BCPB B-die as per this review: https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8268/skill-tridentz-rgb-ddr4-3600-32gb-memory-kit-review/index.html - As per a 3D mark benchmark, someone was successfully do 3600Mhz on a threadripper 1950x & ASRock X399 Taichi on this ram (not sure whether my MSI x399 carbon pro ac may get the same love). : https://www.3dmark.com/spy/2340426 - Not in my motherboard QVL but Samsung B-die and with above benchmark is it enough for me to go ahead? Not sure if it can reach 3600Mhz. Option 2: 2 kits of below: G.SKILL Trident Z RGB (For AMD) 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200 Mhz CL14 Model F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX (14-14-14-34) @ 460$ (2x229$) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232650&ignorebbr=1 Findings: - Samsung B-Die, Has AMD compatibility and will work at 3200Mhz (Might overclock to 3333/3466). - Does 2 kits of 2x8 GB will be able to do Quad channel @ 3200Mhz or more on a ryzen? - Seems overpriced (as it is 3200Mhz only) Option 3: 2 kits of below: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3600 CL15 Model F4-3600C15D-16GTZ (15-15-15-35) @ 440$ (220$x2) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232306 Findings: - Samsung B-die but not in my motherboard QVL. Not sure if it can reach 3600Mhz and also if 2 x 2 x 8GB would be fine. Option 4: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 3200 CL16 Model F4-3200C16Q-32GTZRX @300$ https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232753 Findings: - Most affordable but not sure if it has Samsung B-Die and can overclock to 3466/3600 I am leaning towards option 1 or option 3 as its 3600Mhz ryzen seems to favor gaming performance but concerned if it would be compatible. Let me know if you guys have a better suggestion/alternative. Thanks for the help Regards.
  8. Hello, I am currently looking to get a new system purely for 3D sculpting in Zbrush and Keyshot / Arnold rendering. Currently my plan is to get the following: CPU Threadripper TR4 - 2950X - 16 C / 32 T DDR4 - G.Skill 3400 - 8 x 8GB (64 GB Rams)- F4-3400C16D-16GSXW Mobo Phantom Gaming 6 However, Ryzen 9 - 3850X also comes with 16 C / 32 T if rumors stands correct, and it will be available in July. They both share the same number of cores and threads. For what I understand 3850X is not Threadripper. I am confused if I should get the Threadripper TR4 - 2950X now, or should I actually go with 3850X when both has the same cores and threads for what I want to use for. Thank you and appreciated.
  9. I built this for a friend who needed a desktop mainly for Houdini and 3D FX work. Named after the star of the show: blue extensions. Originally went with this motherboard since it was on sale on Amazon during Black Friday. I only did a quick check on PCPPartpicker to see if it fit in the case and it seemed like it fit just fine in the Define / Meshify C frame. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/vgpG3C It wasn't until later that I noticed it didn't fit without some taller standoffs. I ended up double and triple stacking motherboard standoffs to angle the motherboard in a way that wouldn't interfere with the angled cable management cutouts. The middle column of standoffs also required some re-purposed Asiahorse rubber corner bits to properly support the motherboard. I was worried that the graphics card might not plug all the way in with the motherboard at such an angle but it worked just fine and seems even more secure than usual due to the smaller angle between the motherboard and rear pci support panel. Due to the cable management cutouts being blocked off, most of the cables had to be routed through the top right. This resulted in fairly clean cable routing until I realized I needed extension cables to power the graphics card. The 24pin cable was barely long enough which prevented the hdd cage from being moved backwards for the 3x NF-P12's I had in mind for the front intake. I ended up going with NF-P14's since NF-A15's didn't fit with the internal usb 3.0 cable in the way. CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S + NF-A15 in pull Motherboard: Asus Prime X399-A Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 8x16GB 2666mhz CL16 SSD: Adata XPG SX8200 960GB HDD: WD Black 2TB Graphics Card: Msi Gaming X GTX 1070 Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Black Case Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14 FLX, 1x Noctua NF-P12 Power Supply: Corsair RM850 w/blue sleeved pcie extension cables Wireless card: TP-Link Archer T9E AC1900
  10. Based on my original question over at the workshop: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/950136-future-proof-high-end-workstation-first-pc-build/?do=findComment&comment=11695132 ---- I'll soon be switching to a new workstation which will be based on the 2950x. Due to my work I am requiring 64gb of RAM (32 wouldn't be enough), but it looks like there's some stuff I need to be wary about… The planned build: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/xBnFmq (Some things still subject to change) The 64gb Ripjaws kit (4x16gb) I have in the list seems to be "not officially certified for ryzen" I found the following post on r/Amd that tells crashing problems with the same kit, but the 32gb model: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6tz8sa/threadripper_and_ram_speeds/ On the other hand, quad channel seems to perform much better, but from what I've searched, i couldn't find any build with a single quad-channel 64gb kit running a steady 3200 (just always 2x4x8, so 8 sticks in total) - all i could find was 32gb. Any help would be appreciated; what's the optimal kit, performance- and compatability-wise? Should I go above 3200hz as proposed in the linked thread? Cheers!
  11. Hi, So i have been trying to get my 2950X to run at 4.1Ghz (or higher) for a while now, I have tried tweaking most of the common settings that are supposed to make things more stable but so far nothing seems to work. I am able to run it at 4ghz just fine but the moment i put it to 4.025Ghz or higher it always crashes even if i up the voltage ect.. Was wondering if anyone has any tips for this. Cooler: NZXT Kraken X72 (CPU temps peaks at 68-70c during full load with Aida64 @4ghz) Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X399-E (Both the 8pin cpu power and the 4pin is connected)
  12. Ok so first post! Have watched Linus for years. Seen almost every video and get notifications for new ones. Totally in love with the show and his personality. But anyway I’m also in love with the Dan case A4- SFX. And I know asus makes a ROG Strix x499 mini itx. I want to know if anyone has heard of this fitting in this case. Total build I’m looking for is GTX 1080ti (Amp extreme of possible) •Threadripper 2950x •ASUS ROG Strix x470 Mini-ITX •Mini 92-120mm water cooler •Samsung 970 Pro 1-2TB nVME •Dan case A4-SFX •SFX power supply I am a DJ, music producer. And avid gamer. I’ll take the FPS loss over my initial idea of a 8700k/9900k. Been usuing my early 2011 MBP with i7 2.3 ghz quad core upgraded with RAID 0 Samsung 860 egos and 16gb DDR3 ram, and is really like to treat myself after years of gig money saved up. The dan case is small enough to fit perfectly in this padded backpack I have but if I have to go for another case I’d really like to stay under 6 liters. Price under $3-4000 isn’t a issue. Just hoping I can get this thing up and running fast. Thank you everybody
  13. I know this may be a stupid question but im building my first high end pc and im trying to choose my processor. I was thinking of the 2950x. its got a ton of cores and pcie lanes but also thers the 9900k, it has fewer cores but its cheaper and easier to over clock. i know i must sound dumb to some of you butr i relay could use some advice
  14. I am looking to build a new desktop using a 2990wx with 128gb ram. The workload consists of running multiple instances of a program in parallel. My main question is if this is a good fit for my workload. I am currently running 2 other computers doing the same workload. ~90% CPU usage and 56GB RAM on a 1950x. (42 instances) ~90% CPU usage and 31GB RAM on a 1700x. (28 instances) I would ideally want about 40-60% more performance out of using a 2990wx for a new system. System price before cpu and ram: 800€ Total price with a 2950x and 64GB: 2050€ Total price with a 2990wx and 128GB: 3150€ Basic config: Case: Inter-Tech 4u 4129N +some rails PSU: 750w RMx GPU: A spare GTX 680 that I had left over Heatsink: Enermax LiqTech TR4 240 Motherboard: ASRock x399 Taichi SSD: 970 EVO m.2 What I would like to work out is if I would have issues with the memory bandwidth if I used a 2990wx. From what I have read, that is the main cause of workloads not scaling as well. Any other suggestions for the hardware would also be welcomed. A normal heatsink could be nice but it would need to fit in to a 4u case. I also have not looked to see if there are better motherboards out since gen 2 threadrippers were released.
  15. Am I the only one who's disappointed that the new Threadripper 2 lower end sku's on have 32 pci-e lanes. I wanted a 1950x for the 60ish lanes but was waiting for TR2 for hopefully a cheaper price on a 16/32, which we got kinda, but it only has half the lanes. Why couldn't it have more. #firstworldproblems
  16. Well G'day everyone I have finally finished my Threadripper build to replace my 4 year old laptop (quite the upgrade!). Certainly was interesting putting this computer together as I have never done one before but the results were well worth it! Specs: AMD Threadripper 2950X NZXT X62 Kraken 32GB G.Skill 3200Mhz RGB RAM Aorus Gaming 7 Motherboard Corsair RM1000X PSU Gigabyte Aorus GTX1070Ti Samsung 970 Evo NvMe M.2 1TB SSD Samsung 970 Evo NvMe M.2 250GB SSD Thermaltake View71
  17. FedEx really beat the crap out of this box. I don't know if I could even manage damage like this myself! What do you say, should I keep it closed and send it back to NewEgg? Or should I open it up and see if it works?
  18. So I'm not sure how to start this, since my current Machine Peorth is over 10 years old now with an Gen 1 i7 960, it's definitely time for an upgrade, since I'm doing streaming/recording gameplay I wanted to go with threadripper so I can have cores for streaming/recording and cores for gameplay. So I currently have an Alienware 3440x1440 Ultrawide main monitor, and an old Iiyama 1080p monitor that I use as a secondary for chat/youtube/OBS/Twitch dash/everything else that I would like to upgrade to 4k Monitor so I can monitor more at once. I don't know if this will affect gaming/cpu performance if it's not being used for any gaming. Budget is not an issue, I have saved some money for some time and just like Peorth when I first built it, I want to spend money on something that will last for a long time. Lastly, as I have been building computers since I was 15, putting PCs together is second nature to me, I've swapped components in and out of Peorth, swapped her into several new cases for years, I decided after watching far too much of Jayztwocents videos that maybe I should try watercooling for a challenge. I want to start with flexitubing with no fancy liquid, just some pink dye in distilled water. I did want to get into a white and pink theme, even maybe doing some modding like etching the window with a rose. Even painting a case if I can't find one with enough white on that I like. Sadly with Caselabs shutting down my options are severely limited, since I have my PC under the desk and to the side, I would like radiators to be at the front and top, and would like a full or super tower with enough radiator space for the TR2 CPU/Mobo VRM and 2 graphics cards. So here's current Peorth: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Pyrii/saved/32M9TW Here's PCPP list for the new PC so far, with stuff copied over that I intent to try and keep. HDDs/SSDs are a little up in the air, I've like to switch to NVMe: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Pyrii/saved/NVrV6h What parts I need recommendation on is: Motherboard: TR4 X399 motherboards with plenty of VRM headroom, full Custom waterblock support also wanted. 2NVMe slots minimum, lots of USB 3.x support. 8-slot quad channel memory. And not a garrish "gamer" design. Or something that could be modded for a cleaner look. Memory: Memory speed is very important, fast ram at 32-64Gb max (Honestly I have 24Gb in my current system and haven't maxxed it out yet so 32Gb (4x8gb) most likely with the option to buy the same kit to double later if needed would be best) Case: Front and top 360 rad support, full tower or super tower case that's moddable (To paint white, though white case preferred since less work) with a side TG window that I can etch onto. With caselabs gone, my options are severely limited now Though I was already ont he fence about spending that amount Graphics Cards: I was tempted to jump on dual 1080 Tis in SLI once the 2080 was revealed, but the price of the 2080 Ti seems to have inflated the cost of the 1080Tis since pople looked at the 2080Ti and thought "Nope". It's a throw-up to see if the 2070 might be worth getting instead. I think waiting on benchmarks will help. But then it's waiting on waterblocks for the cards. Let's just see what a decent 1080Ti set-up could be. Watercooling block support would be required. Watercooling: I've decided on a Alphacool lighttower res, I would like blockes and fittings without logos plastered all over them or the ability to take the logos off. Since this is meant to be a primarily white and pink build, nickel plated or white fittings would be great. Tubing will be flexible and dye some distilled water pink to keep it simple for my first watercooling build. Power Supply: Something that will hopefully run fanless at med-high load if possible, noise is a concern. I've never had problems with corsair PSUs so tempted just to get another RM1000i since my current one has been running for 5+ years now. My server (Yggdrasil) has my old TX650 Budget: I have quite a bit saved up so budget isn't a problem, since I'm disabled and stream, I spent a lot of time with my computer so I'm not adverse to spending money to make my experience better for a comfortably long time. Of course I'm not going to throw cash away on something more than I need. If I had to set a budget, I'd say I'd not like to go above £3-4k. I need a shopping list to start looking for deals on parts. I've spent a week writing this post, I'm not sure what else I can write, I just need to get this out there now so I can start planning. Once everything's together I can start a build log and start explaining the "Peorth" > "Angelic Rose" connection.
  19. Hello! I am looking forward to buying a PC for machine learning. I am going to use 4 cards of RTX 2080. I think about getting the Threadripper 2950x, will it do the job with it (without bottlenecking?) and Will the corsair 750D be good enough to hold them (without them overheating too much?) etc. This was my general idea, please give feedback: CPU: Threadripper 2950x GPUs: x4 RTX 2080 RAM: 64GB ddr4 MotherBoard: Gigabyte Designare SSD: samsung 500GB 970 EVO m.2 NVMe Case: corsair Obsidian Series® 750D PSU: corsair 1600w water cooling: enermax Liqtech-TR4 II 360mm Thanks for helping!
  20. G'day Everyone I am imminently about to build a new workstation/ gaming rig which should be able to handle heavy video processing (4K and 8K), photo editing and can also be used for gaming as well. I am currently using my Gigabyte P35X V3 Laptop which has run really well until I started editing more videos recently and decided it was time to upgrade. I have decided this for a number of reasons, the first being the laptop's motherboard can only support 16GB of ram (4 years ago this didn't cross my mind as a problem) and recently the render times taken to produce longer 4K videos and short 8K content (primarily timelapses) are just not good for my sanity. I'm hoping to spend no more than $4500 AUD on the hardware (peripherals not needed). I have decided to go with the 2950X as it seems to do everything I need it to do with the best price. I'm also looking at buying a 1080Ti or possibly one of the new cards supposedly about to be announced next week, however if this is overkill for Adobe Premiere Pro and 8K video editing (I'm not as concerned about gaming performance) then I am happy to save a few dollars and go for something a little cheaper. Here is my current system build idea (or follow the link below) CPU: AMD Threadripper 2950X CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 Rev 2 Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X399-E Gaming (but not too sure on the differences between them all) Memory: G.skill Trident Z RGB 32GB (4x8Gb) (Will likely buy another 4 slots when the money becomes available) Storage: Samsung 970 EVO 250 GB (System) Storage: Samsung 970 EVO 1TB (Games and software) Video Card: What is the difference between all the 1080 Ti's and does it matter that much??? Power Supply: Corsair Professional Gold 850W 80+ Case: I'm looking for suggestions! https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/D8WjBb If you would be able to answer any of my questions as this is my first build or could help me choose anything in any way that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Nick

  22. Hi! I'm looking for a water cooling for AMD Threadripper 2950x, what cooling should I go with? Thanks
  23. Hey there, I'm building an AMD Threadripper 2950X build with an Aorus Xtreme X399 motherboard. I've heard that "Threadripper loves fast memory" so have been looking at 32GB kits in the 3200MHz to 3600MHz range, though I'm not actually sure how true that statement is. The 3600MHz kit with the best XMP timings I've found is the Patriot Viper 3600MHz with 16-18-18-36, which is better than the timings of some 3200MHz kits. Problem is this RAM isn't on the QVL for my motherboard, and therefore I'm not entirely sure whether it would work. A slightly weird note is that on the motherboard specs page it states: "Support for DDR4 3600+*(O.C.) / 3466+(O.C.) / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 MHz memory modules * Recommend to use a 1st Gen. Ryzen™ Threadripper™ processor to achieve 3600MHz (O.C.) speed." I don't really understand what this means, I would have assumed a 2nd gen threadripper would be able to handle higher frequency ram better than as 1st gen chip. I've seen a review at Hexus of the motherboard which had RAM overclocked to 3800MHz stable using a 2990WX. Can anyone clarify what this statement means, and suggest whether the Patriot RAM listed above should be compatible with the Aorus Xtreme X399 board? The Patriot RAM seemed to have the highest frequency with the lowest timings from what I could find. Are there any other RAM kits that you would suggest instead? I was looking at the Aorus 3200MHz RAM as each 2x8GB kit also includes 2 "dummy modules" to fill up the remaining dimm slots on the motherboard which would look nice (and match with the Aorus mobo), but these add about £50 extra per 16GB kit compared with comparable memory from other manufacturers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  24. Hi, I am using a 2950x and ASRock x399 taichi with a Kraken X62 AIO for cooling. I am getting high idle temps, 66 Celsius, reported in the motherboard bios (3.30) Looking at the ryzen master software when running windows, the temperature is in low 30s. I realise that there is a 27 degree offset from Tctl to Tdie , But if the motherboard is reporting the higher temperature, would that not mean that thermal throttling will happen much sooner than it would if the correct temperature was being reported on the mb? Any help greatly appreciated
  25. Hey everyone, I'm in the UK looking to build a workstation with the 2950x. All would run stock speeds except the memory. I'd like to request a recommendation on what memory kit would be 100% guaranteed to work without stability issues at 2933mhz. I have heard about a lot of people having stability/compatibility issues with the threadripper and memory; from what I've read, the most optimal choice would be: -Samsung B-Die -Quad channel kit -2933mhz+ -On the Mobo QVL or proven to work with it The G.Skill Flare X 64gb 4x16gb 2933mhz seems to be the best choice, however I can't find anywhere in the UK from a reputable place with it in stock. (I am aware of the B-Die Finder here: https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/) - however, being forced to use B-Die for the threadripper makes the price difference between skylake x smaller since it's not to fussy with the memory, so why even go for the tr? I am ideally looking for 64gb, so 4x16gb. Also, what is the best air cooler for the 2950x? Or is it vital I have an AiO for good temps? This is the current part list: CPU: TR 2950X CPU Cooler: Dark Rock Pro TR4 Motherboard: ASRock X399 Taichi Memory: ? Storage: 1x 970 evo 500 GB M.2, 1x WD 4 TB 5400RPM HDD GPU: MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio Case: Cooler Master H500M PSU: Corsair HX1000i OS: Windows 10 Pro Any other thoughts are welcome!
