I'm working on a program to automate some functionality of a research lab. One of the problems is that saving the file they want to use the sample ID as part of the name. Unfortunately I've run into some issues where " and / are used in the sample ID which as you know cannot be saved in Windows. The reason I'm changing variables from sampleID to correctedID is that I want to keep corrected id and my sample ID separate. I'm doing this because this program also automatically writes a several page report where the sample ID is called multiple times and needs the full sample ID. The bit of my code that I've inserted is this: Dim idArray As Variant Dim y As Integer correctedID = "" If InStr(sampleID, """") Then idArray = Split(sampleID, """") y = UBound(idArray) For x = 0 To y correctedID = correctedID & idArray(x) Next x End If If InStr(sampleID, "/") Then idArray = Split(sampleID, "/") y = UBound(idArray) For x = 0 To y correctedID = correctedID & idArray(x) Next x Else End If If correctedID = "" Then correctedID = sampleID End If Until I added this block of code there were no crashes whatsoever. With this block of code about 10% of the time excel will hard freeze with no error thrown and require me to kill it using command prompt. Thoughts? On the rare event that the code crashes BUT doesn't hard freeze excel it highlights a line near the bottom when I am saving the excel file. That line is: ThisWorkbook.SaveAs "T:\TCNA Laboratory US\PTCA\PTCA Data\20" & labArray(2) & " Automated\" & labArray(1) & labArray(2) & "\PTCA" & labArray(1) & _ labArray(2) & " C373-5 " & correctedID & ".xlsm" This is where I am calling the correctedID. I ran debugging statements to keep an eye on what value is stored in correctedID but it seems correct. If more information is required please let me know and I will provide it asap. Thanks!

I am looking for a program that will allow me to enter a piece of information then tag it with for example; genre, type, associated folder etc. For keeping track of things like folder or game structures. Does anyone know of a program like this? The GUI would look something like a music player where you could select artist or genre, only be text based instead.

Hi there, no idea if anybody in this forum can help or if I am in the correct forum. I have imported a custom font into Windows. I use Futura as my daily font in word. It came with all varients such as bold, italic etc. When I want to change what I wrote into bold nothing happens. Is there any way I can tell word, what to do when I press "bold" on that specific font. So for example: If I press the bold button, change font to Futura Heavy. Is that possible? Thanks for any help. Robert

Title says it all, mostly. These screenshots will explain better: What it should look like: What it looks like over the page break: Notice how the speed and displacement are absent in the second picture? Yeah. That's the issue. They're still there, but I just can't see them. They don't show up in print preview either. I know they're still there because I can copy/cut and paste them out of the table, but as soon as a) I put them back in the table and b) they go over the page break, they vanish. And it's not like they're all in one equation object: each line is its own. It only happens to the ones that are above the break. If I move the whole thing down two lines, they all appear, but then I have a large space at the end of my first page. I'd prefer not to just stick a page-break (ctrl+enter) in there, since that would shift things largely if I was to change text above the break. Even if nobody knows how to fix it without a workaround, I'd like to at least know what causes is. Thanks.

Hey Guys/ Girls, This forum has been pretty useful in the past and to be honest I don't know why it took me so long to ask for help here. I have my finals in less than 2 weeks and I'm required to use word, access and excel, I'm provided 5 copies by my school of Microsoft Office. I previously had Office 2013 installed but about 2 weeks ago I did a clean sweep of my computer as it was lagging and just being slow in general. I went to install Office to realize that I've been upgraded to Office 2016, after installing it I've been having many issues, every time I attempt to open any Office software, it comes up with "Microsoft Excel/ Word/ Access has stopped working". After hours of looking around, I recall having a similar problem awhile back so I decided to run it as an administrator, it works fine. The only problem now is when I try to open saved excel files, it comes up with "There is a problem sending the command to the program" and it doesn't load the file. After hours of searching, I found out that if I just opened Excel > File > Open, I am able to open the file of my choice but it's rather inconvenient. If anyone has any solutions for me, it would be greatly appreciated, I have linked some screenshots of the "pop-ups". Microsoft suggests that it could be a display problem. My graphics drivers are up to date, the only thing is that I had recently purchased a new monitor the BenQ GW2270, but I had used it with Office 2013 and it had worked fine. Stopped Working: http://prntscr.com/co4khu Problem Sending Command: http://prntscr.com/co4lko Thanks In Advance Joseph

So I have a few word documents that have a password. Is it possible to crack/recover them, maybe a recommended program or a service? Perhaps i can send someone the file they crack it. I'm willing to pay some money to recover these files. I might have a few ideas of what the password could be or rather the length of the password.

I'm using Office 2010 and created a mail merge between a Word document and an Access database. Since then, I have password protected the database and am unable to open the Word document with the mail merge in it. It says "invalid password" and everything I've tried hasn't worked. What do I do?

Here's the deal. I'm trying to print about 50 pages worth of revision material but when I paste it into Word the colour formatting is still present: (short extract:) Red Shift explained The colour light appears is based on its wavelength. Imagine looking straight along a wavy line. From your position at one end the waves will be foreshortened. Thus a yellow/green wavelength would look more blue or more purple because it appears to be shorter. Imagine pulling a wavy line away from you. This would make the waves appear longer. Therefore, the same greeny yellow light would look more orange or red. Light from galaxies moving away from us has been stretched in the same way which distorts the wave length. I want to keep the bold/highlighted text but don't want the purple-ish theme.. How do I do this?

Hey Guys! I am currently going through a rigorous process of trying to regain access to an outlook.com account for a client, and was wondering if anyone else out there has had experience with this. Long story short, had to reload a clients T550 ThinkPad, which we sold and installed MS Office 2013 Home & Business for them. Normally, we make a new outlook account, to tie the MS Office product to (unlike with 2010 and below where you would literally pop in the cd, enter your product key, and be on your way) instead of tying it to a pre-existing email address. The client never sees this email address, as it's mostly for our internal documentation. The problem is, it is not liking the password that I have on file. Normally the solution would be to reset the password, but since this account's SOLE reason of existence is to allow the Office product to be activated, we don't do much with those accounts. The password reset form can really only be filled out a quarter of the way (basic info like name, address, state, etc.) it also asks for billing info tied to acct, subject lines of previously sent emails, and other wacky email related stuff. Does anyone have any insight on this? Obviously I don't expect anyone to be able to resolve my issue since it's entirely in Microsoft's hands, just more or less looking for any recommendations of anyone else that may have the same kind of setup process to prevent this from happening again. Thanks in advance, Mike W. LYNX Computer Technologies, Inc.

I have Microsoft Office 2013 installed, and I needed to use Publisher so I also installed 2007 (after 2013). Now every .doc file is opening with Word 2007 and it won't let me change it, If I select Word 2013 in default programs it just opens with 2007.

Hey Guys I'm currently doing some homework stuff, and I'd like to know if this is possible. So I want to refer to another title in the document, so that once you click on the text, it takes to back to another title/topic in the document. Is this possible? Example; ''As I wrote in chapter 2, you cannot sacrifice a duck'' So that once you click on chapter 2, the scroll bar goes up to another part of the document? I'm not that good at word, hopefully this is possible to do

I noticed Linus complaining on a recent live stream about how Office 365/2013 saves to OneDrive by default and thought maybe some people may also not like that behaviour. The fix is pretty simple. File > Options > Save > Check the "Save to Computer by Default" check box.

Hi guys, Normally when you type a word followed by a hyphen followed by a word (e.g. "hi - hi") the hyphen between the words will change into a dash. I noticed last Monday that apparently the change from hyphen to dash doesn't occur anymore apropos of nothing at all. It's a piece of cake to get into the settings and just check the right box to indeed change hyphens to dashes in the above-mentioned scenario, but for some reason it only works in this particular session. If I open another document or even re-open the document I was working on, the setting has reversed - the hyphens will stay hyphens when I use them like I do right now - and no matter what I do I can't get Word to stick with the settings I want it to use, which is very annoying. I hope you understand the issue. I found it a bit hard to explain properly... Please ask if you need anything clarified. Anyone who knows how I can "force" Word 2010 to use the settings I want it to use even after I've closed the program or opened a new document? Thanks!

A new password cracking client (ocl-hashcat-plus) has successfully cracked a 55 character long pass-phrase in an astonishingly short period of time and is able to crack up to 64 character pass-phrases. Short report here: http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/08/thereisnofatebutwhatwemake-turbo-charged-cracking-comes-to-long-passwords/ I've personally searched around and couldn't find the greatest information possible on the subject, but this seems to be the best.

I bought a Family Pack of Microsoft Office 2010. I registered one copy on Windows 8 on my old SSD before it died, and I was unable to deactivate it before it died. I am now installing it on my new SSD. My dad and sister are going to take the other two licenses, all 3 of which work off the same code. The question is, will the original activation (on the now dead SSD) be overridden by the three newer activations, or will I have to call Microsoft?

Hi Guys, I'm completely re-building a computer for my family. It was really important for it to boot fast and do everything fast. That doesn't matter anyway. So I bought a Samsung 840 series SSD for all of the OS and programs and all the goodness, with no intent on re-using the old HDD (which is full of crap and slow). So what I want to know is if I can deactivate the copy of windows on that computer and then make a bootable USB (done this part before with my PC) to install windows, then use the old licence to activate it. I also want to move the copy of Microsoft office to the new hard drive so that can be used as well. Is this possible? Thanks for your help :) bchampion96
