  1. Hey guys, i really need some help. Roughly 9 months ago, I build my new pc. Since I build it, I have had random crashes/black screens during games or when in idle, but never during stress test or anything like that. My specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING OC 16G ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus 2x16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws 5600MHz Noctua NH-D9L NZXT C850 Gold (850W) OS: Windows 10 I have tried the demo of 3dMark, all OCCT benchmarks, cinebench r23, memtest86 and some other benchmarks. My PC never crashed during these. The speeds and temperatures stay at normal levels, even after like 3 hours or more. But most of the time it just randomly crashes in games after like 20-30 minutes. Sometimes it only crashes after like 2 hours or even never . The games which crash it are basically all games that I currently play, so Valorant, Cyberpunk, Fortnite, Forza Horizon 5, GTAV, and some more. I am running stock speeds on both GPU and CPU and over-/underclocking or changing anything hasn't helped ether. I've tried all DOCP profiles and turning it off has also not helped. I am running the newest chipset and gpu driver, as well as the newest BIOS. (I dont really think that matters scince these crashes exist since I build my PC). The Windows Event Viewer also doesn't help. I only get: - Error: Eventlog (ID: 6008) - Critical: Kernel-Power (ID: 41) But these 2 show only after the crash, there is no event before my pc crashes. Currently I really don't know what to do anymore. The crashes are just getting really annoying while im playing with friends and it's also not like the PC was cheap. Thanks for reading all that, I hope someone can help me.
  2. I have a newly built pc with a 7.1 Surround Sound Box for audio. I have 3 amps plugged into it (Front, Side and Rear). I configured the sound in playback device settings, and surround sound worked fine during that. But when I try to use surround sound to watch YouTube, etc., only the speakers connected to the front speakers port does anything. Can’t seem to make it use the other speakers as well. Any ideas?
  3. "System" task is constantly waking up my dgpu. Every 3s it changes from "gpu 0 3d" to "gpu 1 copy" in task manager which ends us in disgusting battery performance. Hw monitor shows that gpu jumps from 1w to 11-16 wats when system does it. I have done reinstalls, power plans, battery checks. I don't believe that laptop with the most efficent power plan with 42kwh battery can discharge in 1,5 hours if im lucky and having max 1 site open when the producer says that it can do 5h of light tasks. Also i can't test what would happen if i killed system because win won't let me do it. ps the intel igpu is not overworked, 20-30% max load Gpu model: 1660ti maxq system: win 10 laptop model; hp pavilion gaming 15 cpu 10300h
  4. Last month battery capacity fell below 10%, it stopped charging. So I ordered a new one and received the battery this week (2021-05-05). After receiving the new battery, I replaced the old battery and plugged the charger. Without waiting for it to fully charge, just to see if the battery was getting detected, I turned on the system. It showed 86% battery available and also indicated that it is charging, so I shut down the system and kept it for charging. After an hour or so I checked to see if the battery indicator turned green, it was still yellow. The surface of the battery was pretty hot at this point. So, I immediately unplugged the charger and took the battery out and allowed it to cool down. After some time, I reinstalled the battery and turned it back on (without connecting the charger). This time it showed 10% battery. I thought it would be due to the battery change, so to allow the battery to fully charge I shut down the system and plugged the charger. Again allowed it to charge, this time I checked the battery temp (by touching the surface) at regular intervals but didn't find any heating issue. After waiting for more than 40 minutes, I turned it on (plugged in state) , but it was still showing 10%. Then I disconnected the charger, to see if the battery was draining or not, after 2 - 3 minutes of usage, the battery charge dropped by 1% (9%). Also I noticed one strange thing, that is the battery indicate icon is not showing any indication of charging. It stayed still and shows battery percent 8% available (plugged in). Its been over two days since I installed this battery, it is still showing 8% available (plugged in) I checked the board to see if there are any issues, didn't find any damage. 5. I upgraded a Dell Inspiron that has windows 7 on it. What should I upgrade on the pc. I know for sure the cpu needs an upgrade, but I need to know what else. It has a Pinevalley DELL motherboard with an 1155 intel chipset
  6. Greetings I'm in a bit of a funk trying to get Hotkey Resolution Changer (HRC) (www.funk.eu) to start when Windows boots. I've been at this for a week and have tried the following: 1. Place HRC.exe in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp 1a. Set HRC.exe to run as administrator 1b. Place HRC.exe in some other directory and use a shortcut (also running as administrator) 2. Place HRC.exe in C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup 2a. Set to run as administrator 2b. Use a shortcut (also running as administrator) 3. Add HRC.exe to the task scheduler running with full permissions. It never starts. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you for your time.
  7. So I'm replacing my everything except my drives . Should I do a fresh install ? Someone told me these days it doesn't matter . I'm kinda nervous because I've never done it . I mean when I built my first PC I made a boot drive obviously but I don't want to have to unless absolutely necessary .
  8. Alright, so as the title says I updated my BIOS on my Asus X470-Prime Pro in the bios menu, not in windows, and now that its been updated from v4018 to v6210 it seems like either my bios settings have been wiped or somehow the BIOS doesn't support my install of windows. Things I've done are, change the boot priority and set any of my extra drives to "disabled". That has resulted in a different message, instead of windows boot manager coming up, now it says select a proper drive and restart. Which then lead me to thinking maybe the NVMe SSD somehow died during the BIOS update. So I took it out and plugged it into another computer I have and sure enough, there where all my files including the one that windows boot manager said was "missing or corrupt". So now I am at the point of needing someone who knows what they're doing to help me figure this BS out. Let me know if there is more information I can provide to help you help me! TIA
  9. Hello. I build a PC for a friend, and everything was running fine for two days. Suddenly we got a drive repair on boot, windows still working. At the next restart BSOD code 0xc0000185. Tried fixing it with help of Google, ended up doing a clean reinstall. Same problem again, PC works for a few restarts, then BSOD. I tried everything I found on Google, from repair, CMD repair, various programs, used different boot drives created on different PCs. I got a fatal Error ID 41 too, fixed it by changing power settings. CPU: i5 13600k Mainboard: Gigabyte B760m ds3h Ram: Kingston fury beast 2*16gb 5600mhz GPU: MSI 4070ti M.2: 1tb Kingston nv2 Psu: 850 bequiet Windows 10 pro registered license I can't post any kind of log, because now no other repair option works, so only way is to wipe the SSD in another PC and reinstall. Only thing I haven't tried is bios update, but I once bricked a Mainboard so I don't want to do it if this wouldn't fix the problem. Thanks for any help.
  10. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum. If anyone might have a possible idea of what might be going on with my desktop, please let me know. Any help is appreciated! I'll make a list down below of the parts I have in my PC, if those are of any help too. And thank you ahead of time for taking the time to read my post! If I need to attach video files of what my PC shows, let me know and I'll upload them to my MediaFire account since I'm pretty sure the file size will go over the 20 MB max on here. Basically, today, I got on my desktop as normal and noticed that in the Action Center on Windows 7, I believe I remember it saying that there were some errors with the drive not being able to start up correctly, so I went ahead and clicked on it to try and fix them. After that, I rebooted my computer to finalize the fix. (I'd like to say this before hand that I build this computer 8 years ago in December 2015 and have upgraded the CPU, GPU, RAM, and added a 2nd HDD for dual-booting to Windows 10. I'm aware Windows 7 is not longer supported and that at this point most of my parts are old, discontinued, or etc., but I want to be able to back up as much of my stuff as possible before it finally gives up the ghost. I was already planning on building a new desktop next year and was going to future proof it, but I wasn't planning on starting yet.) When I restarted it, I chose Windows 7 as normal, and it showed the start up logo still like normal, but it didn't load my login screen after 3 - 4 seconds like it normally does. I waited a few more seconds then shut it down and restarted again. After I chose Windows 7 it asked me if I wanted to do a start up repair (recommended) or start it up like normal. I chose start up repair. Here, I did 2 different things: Start up repair (which didn't work) and System Restore (which didn't work either). When I did do the System Restore, Windows 7 did say that there was a critical update to Windows Update, which I never gave my PC permission to do. After that, I tried loading up Windows 10 to see if I could access my Windows 7 drive from there. (Sometimes when I start up Windows 10, since I don't use it as often because it's slow, it will want to do a disk check. I allowed it to do the disk check this time.) After the disk check was finished, it restarted and just showed a black screen. I attempted to restart my PC and load Windows 10 again, but it showed the Windows 10 logo again and then the screen went black again. Here's the parts I have currently in my desktop: Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G R2.0 LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard RAM: 4 x 8 GB PNY 1.6GHz DDR3 Memory CPU: Intel i5-4590 3.30 GHz (Model: BX80646I54590) Power Supply: Thermaltake Smart Standard 650W 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V 2.3 Power Supply SP-650P Graphics Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Super Gaming X / 4GB GDDR6 Storage #1: WD Blue 2TB HDD (Windows 7) Storage #2: WB Black 2TB HDD (Windows 10)
  11. So I have a somewhat unusual monitor setup for my PC that allows my mouse to cross over only a small section of my 4k monitor. My question is, is there anyway to set it up for my mouse to be able to cross across the area I drew out with the blue marks without connecting them in the display settings? Ideally I want to keep monitor 3 centered above monitor 1 but still be able to send my mouse cursor from monitor 3 to monitor 2 and vice versa. Is there a way to do this so I don't need to use monitor 1 as the middleman?
  12. Hello everyone. I'm having trouble making this old laptop working again. I wanted to give it a cleanup and reinstall Windows on it, as I've done a million times with other PCs, even much much older ones, without trouble. I don't think most people will recognize the model because but: -Model name: CX9114W -CPU: Intel Atom x5-Z8350 -RAM: 2GB DDR3 -Storage: 32 GB eMMC Firstly, I tried a system reset from Windows. I don't remember how the exact option was called, but at some point it asked me if I wanted to fully delete data, as to start fully new when the process finished. It didn't ask for any sort of boot drive or gave any warning at all, but told me that it would probably take a long time to finish. I didn't mind that, and it started going. After some time, an error appeared, saying that Windows installation failed, and told me to try again. But when I reboot... the same error window appears over and over, there's no way for me to boot. No biggie, I thought, I'll take my Windows 10 USB drive and install fresh. Opened up the BIOS, I can see it as a boot option and when I tell it to boot from there... nothing. In fact, it tried to boot from the broken Windows again. I would try to remove the storage device or anything but it's soldered in and there are no ports (I opened it to check that among other things). One other piece of information about the laptop is that it has an "EFI Shell" (Which I had to look up because I never encountered that before). I couldn't seem to try to get into it again after breaking Windows but I haven't really tried that much for that. Maybe that part is important somehow? I there anything I can do? I tried messing around with the BIOS settings to check if anything would allow me to boot the Windows installer, which has worked for me in the past, to no avail. I'm getting desperate now and have no idea what I could do. I hope anyone knows the answer or has gone through a similar situation. Thanks.
  13. Below is an email I have sent to MSI, Corsair and Intel (all products I use in my machine) to try and get support. It also outlines my problem. I will also list my system below. Motherboard: MPG Z590 Gaming Carbon WiFi CPU: Intel Core i5-11600KF RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro x4 16GB GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Ventus 3x 12GB Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2TB Crucial P3 1TB TEAM T253LE240G Power Supply: Corsair RM750x My problem is described below: On Saturday 21st October 2023, I installed a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB into my system (MPG z590 Gaming Carbon WiFi). I then reinstalled Windows 10 onto my Crucial P3 which was already in my system. After this the problems started, my computer was freezing initially between 1 – 2 minutes apart, becoming completely unresponsive, on the screen, mouse, keyboard etc. I started to carry out diagnostic tests and have been doing since. I was attempting to switch from CSM to UEFI, move my boot drive to my P3 (1TB) and install my P3 Plus (2TB) for games. These tests consisting of the following (all tests carried out were 5 minutes long) - Remove P3 Plus, freeze on the 6th Test Run, ran on CSM - Reinstall Windows 10 on the P3, freeze on the 5th Test Run, ran on UEFI - Keep P3 Plus out, remove P3, install Windows 10 onto my other SSD (where the boot originally was), freeze on 6th Test Run, ran on UEFI - Keep P3 Plus out, keep P3 out, use 1 stick of RAM (I called this one A), we stopped this test after the 3rd run to download Windows 11 as someone mentioned Windows 10 being glitched from the installation media. - We had all 4 RAM sticks in during this, freeze during Windows 11 install at the drive selection. - Windows 11 installed successfully, Drivers updated automatically, GPU drivers installed, rebooted, RAM A again, freeze on 1st Test Run (1 Minute in), ran on CSM - Windows 11, switched RAM Stick A for RAM Stick B, freeze on 5th Test Run (3 Minutes in), ran on CSM - Windows 11, switched RAM Stick B for RAM Stick C, freeze on 1st Test Run (1 Minute in), ran on CSM After all of this (over the space of the 21st to 24th), last night I reset BIOS to defaults (defaulting to UEFI), reinstalled my P3, unplugged my original SSD, and installed Windows 11 to the P3. Tonight I will be carrying out the tests of this to see if it freezes.
  14. I built my PC new, around 2 months back and it worked fine till now, this weird issue is occurring since a week or two. I highly doubt if its CMOS battery. Windows 10 64 Bit. UEFI. CSM is disabled. Boot priority is set to Windows Boot Manager first. Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M-K (BIOS: F1) Processor: Ryzen 5 5600 RAM: Tforce Delta 8GBx2 GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3070 NVME: Lexar 500GB SATA SSD: Team Group 1 TB
  15. Hi, my PC has just gotten a storage upgrade, getting 2 new 4tb HDD and a Samsung 870 QVO 4tb SSD as a boot drive. Computer was getting slow so full reset and fresh windows install. Both HDD have installed correctly and been partitioned but during the installation process, windows partitioned half the SSD to the OS and now the windows 'Extend Volume Wizard' won't let me allocate or use the remaining 2 tb. Any solutions or ideas
  16. When I booted up my pc after changing my motherboard i get a message that I cannot use my pin to log in as security settings on this device have been changed and the account im trying to log into no longer exists. I click sign in with different account and it just says could not be completed at this time, try again later or skip for now.
  17. How do I bypass having to make a windows account after I format and while setting up my new pc?
  18. I tried making a backup but i don't have any space left on my drive. Is it possible to fix in a bootable usb? Thank you very much! (I just bought an bigger m.2 to transfer my os but this suddenly happened)
  19. Has anyone been able to figure out how to get NetBEUI support on a Windows 10 machine? This seems to be an issue that commonly shows up with old CNC machines that still use NETBEUI for file sharing, and we have a printing press that has a similar problem. It's an old prepress computer running Windows Server 2000 and I've narrowed it down to Window 10's lack of support for NetBEUI protocol, which appears to have been removed since Windows 7. The press's computer appears to use this ancient protocol for its SMB traffic. Manually copying the netbdf.inf and nbf.sys (grabbed from the WIndows Server 2000 machine) into the Windows INF and System32/drivers folder respectively produces an error when attempting to manually install it as a feature in the Ethernet Properties of the NIC, being blocked by "group policy". I could probably enable TCP/IP on the old machine, but that would be an even bigger security risk in my opinion than enabling NETBEUI on a Windows 10 machine, given the press's computer is running Windows NT 4.0, so I think I'm best off getting netBEUI support on the replacement machine to work.
  20. I recently found an ASUS T100TAR and I have been playing around with it. So far I think it'd be a competent machine to chuck in my bag when I'm headed somewhere, that said I ran into an issue when installing Windows. The device hadn't been reset so I searched for the processor model and found that it was 64-bit capable and tried to install 64-bit Windows 10 only to discover after a short time that it's UEFI is only 32-bit. 32-bit Windows 10 runs fine but now mostly just for the sake of learning I'd like to know if I can somehow have a 64-bit Windows installation despite the UEFI being 32-bit. A few quick internet searches revealed this is doable with Linux via GRUB somehow and I found a "guide" here to follow which in theory should work, but I wanted to run this passed anyone here first to see if anyone's done this before and could better assist me. I'm fully aware that 32-bit windows is smaller and probably runs a bit faster on it but my goal here isn't "make device go brrrr" it's learning and trying things out.
  21. I have been trying to install the .NET Framework 3.5 for months now, nothing I seem to do will fix it. Reinstalling windows is currently not an option right now for many reasons that would take double the length of this post to explain. Whenever I try to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 from either the offline installer offered from Microsoft or through programs and features, or even DISM, it will always error out. I have changed the group policy for "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair", I have done SFC /SCANNOW, DISM restorehealth, nothing seems to install .NET 3.5. The error code I get in Windows Features is "Catastrophic failure Error code 0x8000FFFF" The NetFxRepairTool offered by Microsoft was unable to determine what the issue was. If I run DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All from an admin command prompt, it tells me: Error: 0x8000ffff DISM failed. No operation was performed. For more information, review the log file. The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log I am using a local Windows account that was tied to an online account after initial setup, running Windows 10 Pro 22H2 build 19045.3516 on a Dell Latitude 5520 BIOS version 1.31.0. If anyone needs the DISM log I posted it as an attachment. dism.log

  23. Hey. Little bit of background: I have a GTX 1080 and GTX 950. Windows 10 (version 1803) has option to have certain applications use a certain GPU. Problem: Power Saving GPU and High Performance GPU are both set to GTX 1080 (i mean, they aren't wrong...) I have found a workaround. I don't like it, but it works. Primary monitor plugged into GTX 1080 Secondary monitor plugged into GTX 950 1. Run first application 2. Change primary monitor to the one plugged into weaker GPU 3. Run second application 4. Have fun 5. Close applications 6. Change primary to original What did I use to test this stuff? win 10, 2 monitors (2560x1080 and 1440x9hundo), my morning, ROTR, NVIDIA Share (doesn't work with win 10 game bar) Like I said, I don't like it. Is there a way to trick Win10 to thinking that the GTX 950 is the power saving GPU so that things can *ahem* "just work" semi-natively? Thanks a ton. tldr::Can I trick Win10 to thinking weaker, power hungry GPU is power saving GPU? UPDATE - I did make a post of this same thing on /r/PCMasterRace so if you would like to see what other people have to say there, go check out the post. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/978xtz/windows_10_dual_gpu_trickery/ (MODS, if there is an issue, please leave a comment, and I will get back to you as soon as I can to fix the issue without reposting)
  24. I've had Windows 11 on my Dell Latitude E5450. And frankly, I don't get what the point of it is. It's just Windows 10 with a new skin. But otherwise, Windows 11 is pointless and I absolutely refuse to upgrade my main work station to Win 11. I even disabled my TPM on my motherboard because 1. You don't need it on, and 2. I will not let Microsoft dictate to me what I run or don't run, and 3. a lot of my DAW Plugins, and DAW most likely will not run with Windows 11. I also literally do not see any performance improvements whatsoever. Basically what this comes down to is the classic marketing and hype bullshit that Microsft is known for. Windows 10 is perfectly fine as is, and I honestly wish I had Win 10 LTS on my main workstation, which is a Ryzen 5950x, 64GB ram, and RTX 3060 12GB. Even if Windows 10 gets dropped for support, I am still not going to blow my perfectly fine install of windows 10 aways just because some big-wig says too. Please tell me I am not the only one who sees this and knows it's not worth it.
  25. System configuration: I7 4790k (no Overclock) 16gb ddr3 RAM Gtx 970 M.2 ssd 2 hdd 1 sata ssd If I got at least 24hours between two start ups, the pc will either freeze when loading windows while booting, boots up and freezes within 5 minutes even If I do nothing or freezes when booting and throws me a "system thread exception not handled" blue screen. I tried to boot without my gpu, It still did the same thing I tried to boot with only one stock of ram It still did freeze while booting. I even switched my cpu to a perfectly working I5 4690 and It didn't work aswell. No pins are bent In the cpu socket Could It be a bad motherboard or power supply ?
