Hello all, I've got two developers with Dell OEM i9-10900 SFF systems that clearly aren't keeping up (I didn't buy them nor would've, all I'll say about that). Looking to build DIY rigs to replace it, which I've already done on some workstations and servers. There's a mix of LGA 1700 and LGA 1718 for these machines, so I'm not partial to either. Where it gets complicated is with Visual Studio performance specifically, and whether there's specific advantages between Radeon or Intel iGPUs. Also, whether its worth just getting an F SKU Intel CPU and dropping in an RTX 3050 6GB or such. I do see Visual Studio has a CUDA package, but I'm not sure if this is worth the extra complexity. Currently, I'm looking at the 14700k and Asus Prime Z790M-Plus (though it doesn't have triple display outputs) in a mATX standard configuration build, likely a Fractal Design R5 Silent. I wouldn't be overclocking, likely TDP limiting them, but I'd rather have the binning and clock speed boost from the K SKU CPU compared to the non-K, especially if they current cost the same. I do really like the Asus Pro CSM series boards, but there's no VRM heatsinks which might be a problem for these systems. Its also a 125W TDP limited board, which honestly isn't a problem. 125W is the sweet spot for Intel regarding performance/watt anyways. 13700k is also a worthy contender which is about $60 less than the 14700k for not much less performance. Anyone strongly familiar with hardware recommendations for Visual Studio and some of the potential features? Would it even be worth looking at an RTX 4060 8GB if there's benefits to CUDA and RTX around the corner for VS?

I don't really know if I should be asking such questions here, but since this community helped me a lot with various problems I thought I must ask for help. So, for a couple weeks now I can't use Visual Studio 2022 at all because of freezes upon opening a project. VS seems to work fine with no project opened, but as soon as I try to open any VS solution the whole programs freezes. I tried reinstalling VS and other possible solutions from the Internet, but none of them seemed to help. Some info about my VS installation: Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2022 Version 17.8.1 VisualStudio.17.Release/17.8.1+34316.72 Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.8.09032 I appreciate any bit of help and will provide any additional info if needed!

C - "Access violation writing location" when inputing string
Matttaj69 posted a topic in Programming
Hi, I am working on a simple code in C, have got the logic almost sorted. However, in order for my program to work, I need a user to input a string. I have tried <scanf_s("%s", potr);> (shown in picture), but while debugging, it has ended on that line with "Access violation writing location" error. I have tried putting the string directly as a parameter in the function call, which worked perfectly fine. Any ideas what could be wrong? Notice: long story short, I must use Microsoft Visual Studio and the "safe" version of scanf. Screenshot of the part of my code: Thanks in advance -
I am a student and I know a little python but wanted to dabble with c++. I have tried installing visual studio and vs code many times, even on fresh install of windows, but it just neve seems to work. It always tells me "The exe file not find" or something like that. This time, I thought I fixed it by choosing the console app template and it worked, until I changed the code. The exe file neve updates. It always shows 'hello world', which was the output by the sample code. Its really frustrating, as there are not many other options out there. I tried dev-c++, but the interface is very outdated and its always in light mode. Please Help Me

Hi When I start my PC after rebooting or shutting down, I always get a prompt that says "how would you like to open this file". So I picked Notepad to see what it was, and this is the dialogue it gave me. It happens every single time I start the system. I think it has to do with Visual Studio? But I am not sure. Does anyone know how to stop this? I am using windows 11. Edit: I had to create a paste bin link because the whole notepad output didn't fit in the post https://pastebin.com/uWr9YDgZ

Hi, I have set a shortcut to run any python file in VS Code. The shortcut is " ` " ("oem_3") key. However, I need this key while using other languages -- LaTeX for example. Thus, I need to configure this shourtcut such that it is executed only when the file is a .py file. I found out that one can configure shortcuts this way by using a "when" clause using keybindings.json file. For example this shortcut "ctrl+s" will only be executed when the file is a .tex file and the LaTeX extension is enabled. I want to do a similar thing for the following python extension by adding a "when" clause to the following shortcut But I don't understand how this syntax works. Can anyone guide me? Thanks.

Code won't run in visual studio, but runs on online compilers for c++. Trying to make a program for myself to calculate credit Limits, just for fun. // Example program #include <iostream> #include <string> int main() { float balance = 0; float maxLimit = 0; float needToPay = 0; float desiredLimit = 0; //Balance Finder printf("Enter Your Balance, Max Credit Limit, and a percentage that is under 30. \n"); scanf("%f %f %f", &balance, &maxLimit, &desiredLimit); desiredLimit = desiredLimit / 100; printf("Your Balance is %f \n Your Max Credit Limit is %f \n Your Chosen Percentage is %f \n", balance, maxLimit, desiredLimit); needToPay = ((desiredLimit * maxLimit) - balance) * -1; desiredLimit = desiredLimit * 100; printf("To get your Balance to %f Percent, You would need to pay %f", desiredLimit, needToPay); return 0; }

I am a software developer , primarily working with C#, dotnet and Visual Studio 2019 with extensions like Resharper enabled. Visual Studio with Resharper is a memory hog! I currently have the following PC at home where I do my development work : CPU - Ryzen 7 2700x RAM - 2 x 16 gb 3000Mhz Storage - 512 GB SSD - WD Blue Motherboard - Asus Rog Strix B350M-i Gaming GPU - Gigabyte GeForce Windforce GTX1080 8GB OS: Win 10 Pro With a few Firefox windows, and few instances of Visual Studio debugging docker containers I hit CPU utilization 100% and memory utilization 100% for 3-4 minutes. ? The machine came to a crawling speed, even mouse wasn't moving smoothly. Also build-compile-debug-run tests could do with faster speeds... not good for productivity when I sit idle and watch build progress!! I would like to enable auto run unit tests on every code change save. To ensure I haven't broken anything and have rapid feedback loop. I can't run this effectively now because it slows down build-compile-run-test flow. ( I am also thinking of upgrading to 64GB RAM ) I am looking for an answer to the question --> Does Visual Studio build/compile/debug/ run test workflow benefit from Multicore CPUs or benefit from higher single core clock speeds ? ? Seeing results of https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html , how does these scores interpret/mean for workflow like mine ? Ryzen 7 2700x has a score of 16,927. Ryzen 9 3900x has a score of 31943 ( almost twice the score ) Ryzen 9 3950x has a score of 35702 ( more than double of 2700x, and around 11% mroe than 3900x) Ryzen 9 3950x is 50% costlier than Ryzen 9 3900x , but the performance CPU Benchmark scores only a 11% increase. Is that synthetic score not relevant for my workflow ? Would having 8 extra cores ( as compared to 3900x ) is going to help me a lot ? So would this mean if my build/compile takes around 60s now, getting a ryzen 3900x would make it near 30s? Right now I have a SATA SSD Western Digital Blue, Would getting an NVME SSD help? Thanks in advance people!!

Hi, I have recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad S340-15API (Ryzen 5 3500u model). Everything seems to be fine with the laptop except for one thing. After installing Visual Studio 2019 I ran a few tests to see if the code executes as smoothly as expected on a new laptop. To my disappointment, the IDE takes about 3-5 seconds to build and run a program as simple as "Hello World", much slower than my 10 years old desktop does it. So then I ran Passmark Benchmark on it and every component did fine except for RAM. Turns out my memory latency is 192ns, which falls in the 1st percentile :(. I learned that high memory latency is a frequent issue on AMD systems, but I didn't expect it to be THAT bad. Currently my laptop has two DDR4 2666 MHz memory sticks installed, one 4gb soldered on-board and the other 8gb Kingston I added. My question is - could slow compilation occur in Visual Studio due to high memory latency? If so, how can I mitigate the effect? EDIT: Btw I tried disabling the anti-virus to fix the slow compilation but it didn't seem to change anything

As the tital says how do I load an image in C# using .NetStandard. The aim of the function is just to confirm the file is definately a image, be it png, bmp, ico, tiff or webp. Also because it makes it easier for me if it can only use currently inbuilt tools and no NuGet files that would be swell as I plan to build this as a libary to use this externally in other code I am running to check if files have the correct file extension EDIT: Because I forgot to say this before and a number of people have suggested it. I am readeding the magic bytes (the bytes that say Hey I'm a PNG etc.) but in an attempt to error check that these are deffinately correct I want to load it as an image. The entire point of the code is to detect file types, more specifically the file types of files in a chache which do not have file extensions and by just checking for the magic bytes does not always work correctly, e.g. you get mp4s which aren't mp4s, or pictures which aint pictures etc.

I'm working on a WPF app, and from what i noticed, i'm missing a lot of the WPF features and controls... I looked at the top of all my .xaml files, and all of them reference this : xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" I'm guessing that is the WPF version from all the way back from 2006 .... which is WPF 3.0 (https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/1035800/WPF-Versions-History-and-Major-Enhancements) I tried tinkering with this, seeing all of the other available options, but none of them are from a different year, all are from 2006 ... which is a bit weird, since it says that the WPF 4.6 is available in .Net 4.6 and Visual Studio 2015 ... The current project uses .Net 4.7.2 and i'm using Visual Studio 2019 Preview 4 ... I was searching around to find an answer to this, but i couldn't find any info, other than people asking how to make an updater for their apps ? My question is : How can i update the WPF version that my project uses ? (it seems to be using *3.5 SP1, but the newest one is 4.6 even tough im using .Net 4.7.2 and VS 2019) *Edit : 3.5 SP1, not 3.0, since it looks like i have stuff like the "Native splash screen" but i also dont have the "Calendar, DataGrid and Date Picker" controls, and i found that there are some schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2008 references, although not used in the .xaml **Edit #2 : .... looks like it is 4.0, i do have Calendar and DataGrid and that stuff ... i was just blind ... Still, how can i update it to 4.6 ?

I have text and csv files which are multiple GiB in size (one CSV is 2.5GiB and another is 3.2GiB presently and growing) and I am only interested in certain lines in these text files. If I load these into an array my programme crashes as I don't have enough RAM, so how do I load only certain lines, lets say the last 50 or the last 100 lines, how do I do this in a way that doesn't require at minimum 5GiB of RAM (C requires 2 byte per character vs CSVs 1 so approx double the RAM). Which for some of the systems I am planning to run this code on won't be possible. Especially when I think the 3.2GiB File will be 50GiB soonish, so at minimum 100GiB of RAM would be needed. Long and short, what is the least resource intensive way to load only certain lines, I don't mind if the code is quite long as long as it uses minimal RAM. (it's a long story what these files are but yea.)

I am having issues with the Visual Studio and Forms as I keep getting this error code CS0115 '_.Dispose(bool)': no suitable method found to override I think I caused it by changing the forms name, but it means my programme no longer works. Is there an easy way to fix this as I want it to be called what it is called. Thanks

I am fairly new to Visual Studio, and I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing. I need to start a website as part of my code, and I have no idea how to start a website using Basic. I need to start a website after you correctly login. Code: Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If TextBox1.Text = "tip23lev" And TextBox2.Text = "0743gcgc" Then MsgBox("You are Now Logged In", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Login") (I NEED TO START A WEBSITE HERE)(I NEED TO START A WEBSITE HERE)(I NEED TO START A WEBSITE HERE)(I NEED TO START A WEBSITE HERE) Else If TextBox1.Text = "" And TextBox2.Text = "" Then MsgBox("No Username and/or Password Found!", MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error") Else If TextBox1.Text = "" Then MsgBox("No Username Found!", MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error") Else If TextBox2.Text = "" Then MsgBox("No Password Found!", MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error") Else MsgBox("Invalid Username And/Or Password!", MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error") End If End If End If End If End Sub End Class

Hello! I have this website that's a bit dated its all written in ASP (Which is not my strong suit) A big part of this website is done in Flash/Silverlight (believe me I know...) however I need to get the site working enough to show the content to a couple people. Currently, when you go to the flash page it asks if you want to allow Flash to run. when I click to allow the page goes black and no content appears. this only happened after I received the website. when it was hosted elsewhere it seemed to at least load this page. What config could be doing that? Here is the main Index.html for that page : I don't see anything that stands out as being misconfigured. but like I said ASP is something I rarely deal with. index1.html

I have been using a MacBook now since 2012, and have made the decision to get back onto the windows OS. I have never built my own machine but am very excited to do so. I have $1,000 USD to spend on this, also will be able to get windows 10 on campus for free. I use photoshop often and have been using visual studio a lot lately for class. I don’t want to spend more than I need on the computer itself( buy an additional 27” monitor) . I would like to run at least two monitors. The issue I am having is decided if an i5 will be good enough or do I spend more for the i7. Also have been looking into many GPU’s simply to run 2 - 3 monitors at 1080. I do not plan on doing much gaming. There are so many GPU’s I am so confused on what to choose I have : windows 10 OS, Mouse, Keyboard, one 27” monitor, one 19” monitor Thanks for any help

I have been webdesigning for almost 5 years and C programming Arduinos and ESP for almost a year, so i decided to enter the realm of hardcore programming and start with loading a grapghic library GTK+ on my IDE. I use 2 IDE, Dev C++ and Visual Studio 2017. But for some reason, i can't make the library work. There is always some kind of issue somewhere. I would really appreciate if someone can answer me to quesions: 1. Why isn't there a decicated C file/project option in visual studio (when C is one of the most important languages)? 2. Why is the installation of libraries so complicated? Can't there be some kind standard? I mean, can't i just download the library? And install it directly from the IDE itself? 3. If GTK+ one of the major Graphic libraries for C, C++, Python, C# , why is it's webpage so crappy? Why are the tutorials outdated?

Hi There, I predominately work with front end programming technologies (React/Js/Webpack etc.) However need to run a .NET API and actively develop on it as well. I currently run parallels with Windows 10 in order to do the .NET work, however it's very cumbersome and slow. I'm pretty married to the Mac operating system for my main vocation. Anyone have the same requirements and have found a good solution for developing on both platforms? -Hank
