http://news.sky.com/story/oculus-rift-price-slashed-again-amid-concerns-over-sales-10943409 Is this the sign of the times that VR may not be the next big thing? Im sure it would be cool to pick one up for such a cheap price, but for that price, id rather invest that in a monitor upgrade as it would be much more useful long term, especially if it had touch screen functions as i think that touch screen monitors may be the next 'big' thing after 3D and now VR.

Oculus Rift? HTC Vive? This is not a post where I am trying to get advice for something I will never get, I have the money, I just want to know if I am making the right decision. I am interested in getting an Oculus Rift because there is a really good deal* at the moment for it and the touch controllers in a bundle for £399 (also $399 USD). So Oculus / Vive owners; Also I have read about the screen door effect** is it a huge massive issue? Or do only some people notice it? Is it worth it to invest into virtual reality, is the resolution of the headset worth it? Do you have any issues with your particular headset? Are they good products?... Were they worth the money?... Would you recommend?... Please comment and be honest, and even if you do criticize your particular headset, is it still worth getting? Thank you for any response submitted; Tom. * https://www.oculus.com/rift/ (On home page) ** https://www.vrheads.com/what-screen-door-effect-and-why-does-it-happen

I was looking at the samsung gear vr 2016 and noticed an "international version" and "us version" on amazon. Does anyone know the difference between the two, other than the international version being $40 cheaper.

Hi all, I am having problems launching the virtual desktop application in steam for my HTC Vive. Every time that I try, it just throws the following error "The invocation of the construct on type 'VirtualDesktop.Engine.DynamicSettings' that matches the specified binding constraints threw an exception" (see picture). When I try to report the error to the developer it fails to do so. I have searched online for a solution but have been unable to find anything. Has anyone else had this problem and know of a way to fix it?

The Oculus Touch motion controllers for the Oculus Rift VR headset are officially launching Tuesday, with many preorders already shipped out. Reviews are now in, and there's near-unanimous high praise for the new controllers. The total VR package of the Oculus Rift also takes a step up, generally being considered ahead of the HTC Vive, for the same price ($599 + $199 = $798, vs $799 for Vive). The light weight, great design, and advanced gesture tracking are among the points of emphasis. The Touch controller kit, with the 2 controllers plus a sensor camera (to add to the one you get with the basic Rift package), also features a slew of free content. Many older titles available for the Rift have also been updated with Touch support. The shipping aspect of the Touch launch also appears to be going much more smoothly than for the Rift, with many preordering customers already receiving their Touch controllers on Monday. New orders are currently estimated to ship by the 21st of December. This appears to be the last major launch for first-gen VR, and Oculus has staked their claim as the best of the generation - if a bit late to the motion control party. With the high degree of compatibility between Rift and Vive games, and porting to/from PSVR also factoring in, the VR content landscape is also improving considerably. 2016 has not seen mass adoption of high-quality VR, but now all the pieces of the puzzle are in place for enthusiasts to enjoy VR, big league. Next step is the democratization of quality VR, with Microsoft lining up their $299 partnered headsets for 2017 to perhaps fit that bill. Exciting times, and this excellent launch shows VR is here to stay. Sources: Tom's Hardware UploadVR

Hi. I was thinking that there has not been a review for eye tracker devices. There are a few computers or laptops that have an eye tracking system integrated in them. Also there are three companies that have built low cost eye tracking systems for gaming and other stuff. You should do a review of those systems I think that technology is awesome. Imagine a FATShark FPV system with integrated eye tracking or a parrot drone with a Note 5 used with Samsung Gear VR. Think about it jajajajajaja

I'm planning to build a VR ready HTPC and am looking for some advice to improve my build. I'm not terribly concerned about budget, because I can just save a little longer to make up for additional expenses, but I don't want to be ridiculous. I'm planning on this being in my living room to be used with the Vive. For a monitor, I'll just plug it in to my TV, and I've got some cheap peripherals for general non-VR navigation. My main goal is to have this fit in a very small case like dan case A4-SFX. This will end up sitting on a shelf on an entertainment center, so I'd like to have something that can blend in reasonably well. I want n HTPC, not a conversation piece. Aside from that, I just want good VR performance. Here's my build so far: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/vNDnpb Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/vNDnpb/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i 33.8 CFM CPU Cooler ($38.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard ($159.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($149.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($158.57 @ B&H) Storage: Intel 600p Series 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($189.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card ($649.00 @ B&H) Power Supply: Silverstone 600W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply ($109.99 @ SuperBiiz) Other: DAN Cases A4-SFX ($258.93) Total: $2044.33

My Laptop doesn’t have a DisplayPort output put it does have an HDMI output, does anyone know of an adapter that would work for my VR headset. I need an HDMI male to DisplayPort female output adapter.

It just occurred to me that the backpack PC setup people wanted to do a few years ago when the headsets had external sensors is now possible with the new headsets like the Rift S that have inside out tracking. I hope someone does a video on that now. I think that'd be fun to watch.

Hello Everyone! I am interested in upgrading my VR setup, I currently have a Vive. I want to spend $500 or less on upgrades I can do, I am deciding on buying an Oculus Rift S? What do you guys think?

So...long story short. About a month ago i got my ryzen 7 1700x and vega 64 system up and running. Every part was bought second hand. I was not statisfied with the performance. Even my old gtx 1060 ran vr better than the vega. Well... i sold the whole system and i am starting from the begining. This time i think i will go with nvidia and intel. I am using rift cv1. I have planned to get used 1080ti but i am not sure about the processor since i only have knowledge about amd cpus I have checked the basic benchmarks tho Should i go with the normal gtx 1080? Can you guys help me decide?

So I recently invested in a virtual reality headset and everything was going great. My system specs were: 2 x Nvidia 980 SC EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2 PSU Intel i7 6700K 4 x 4 GB RAM DDR4 Dual monitors (HDMI, DVI) VR Headset (DisplayPort) I often let my computer go to sleep rather than shutting down every night. After about 5 days of this set up, when I awoke it from sleep, the second monitor wouldn't wake, in fact, it was no longer receiving signal. I tried reinstalling drivers, unplugging the VR set, reinstalling Windows, and lastly unplugging one of my GPUs (the SLI setup was as new as the VR set, and I was suspecting too much power draw). It worked, at first. After playing some games in VR, I went to reboot my computer to test it and of course the monitor was no longer receiving signal again. After doing a clean install of the drivers 5 consecutive times, it began working again, and that is where I am at right now (I have not tested VR again yet). Other things worth noting: -Both monitors and cables definitely work. -When only one monitor is working, the problem can be narrowed down to the HDMI port on the graphics card not working. -When not working, and booted with 1 monitor only plugged into the HDMI, once it gets passed the Windows startup screen and onto the sign in screen, the monitor no longer receives signal. -SteamVR and the Valve Index are what is being used for the VR side of things. Would anyone out there have an idea as to where the problem lies and would be willing to help me through this? Thank you in advance.

Greetings!I'm looking into upgrading my VR Rig, which will be used to play VR games(duh) and stream some of them. I don't exactly plan to overclock and I'd like to be able to pump the Supersampling in VR games up to anywhere between 1.5x and 2.0x. (but as they say, the more the merrier)I live in Portugal (Europe) for pricing reference. My current specs are as follow:CPU: Intel i5-6500 GPU: MSI GTX 1060 3GB ARMOR RAM: HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2400MHz 14CAS PSU: SeaSonic S12II 80+ Bronze 430W MOBO: Z170A Gaming Pro CarbonCASE: Nox Hummer MC Zero EditionHMD: Oculus RiftMy planned specs are as follow:CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X or higher GPU: RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti (Probably EVGA 'cause of their customer support but I'm open to suggestions) RAM: G.Skill Trident Z/Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200MHz 14CAS (Accepting other suggestions)PSU: EVGA Supernova 1000 G3 1000W 80+ Gold MOBO: Still haven't done researchCASE: Nox Hummer MC Zero EditionHMD: Valve IndexI've been told the 2080Ti is too overpriced and it's honestly not a pretty price to look at. I'd like to stay future-proof and get the most performance I can get from VR, especially with increased Supersampling. Supersampling benchmarks on RTX cards seem to be scarce however, it's hard to really know if there would be a huge difference between the 2080 and the 2080Ti in that regard, but considering I'd also have to upgrade my CPU, Motherboard and PSU, the 2080 might be more worth it going for because of its reduced price. What do you think however, do you have any experience or information on this type of comparison regarding Supersampling and these two cards? How should I choose the motherboard? Besides the basics, I'll need at least a free PCI-e slot for my Inateck USB 3.0 Expansion Card, hopefully the GPU wouldn't block it. I've heard VRMs are an important thing to look at, what are these exactly? Will there be much difference between different motherboards that'll support the new Ryzen CPUs or are they going to be minimal? Finally, ever since I got my i5-6500, I've always used its stock cooler. I don't plan on overclocking so will the Ryzen's stock cooler be enough? I would otherwise get the Noctua NH-D15 everyone seems to worship ahah But I'd rather save that money if I can get by with just the stock cooler.I think that's about every question I have, will add more as they come to mind. Let me also know what you think of my planned build.Thank you!

So I know that the static sound on WMR headsets comes from the USB not pumping out enough voltage to handle the USB extension. However I used to run my headset with 0 problems on the on-board back ports, with extension and everything, on an old shitty vitsuba master case. I just changed my case, got a NZXT H500, and all of the sudden the back ports an unusable if I use the USB extension. However the front ports (these aren't onboard) work fine with the extension. I really don't want to use the front ones because of cable management related reasons. And the ports worked fine with my other case. Any idea how could I fix this? My mobo is a gaming carbon pro x470

Hey guys! I'm getting ready to purchase and build a system for 1440p gaming and wanted to run it by you guys. I am located in the US and my goals are to build a PC that can play popular games (e.g. The Division 2) at 1440p with a frame rate of at least 60hz. Additionally, I would like to eventually use this PC with an HTC Vive. My budget is $1300 USD for the tower. I have never overclocked before, and would potentially be interested in some light CPU/RAM overclocking. I feel comfortable leaving the GPU alone. Would you rather buy the normal HTC Vive or the HTC Vive Pro with the lighthouse 2.0 basestations and the 2.0 controllers?

Does anyone know how well (if it does at all) vr works when connected to a usb-c to USB-3 hub? The PC I'm looking into buying only has 1 usb-3 port, 2 usb-2 ports, and 1 usb-c port; will vr work fine with my 3 cameras and headset on those ports or should I buy a hub to connect them to the usb-c port.

This is a long boy. Sorry. I built my current system in January of last year. The notable parts of the build are a Ryzen 3 2200g and a Gigabyte gaming 4g RX570. The full parts list is at https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jack0f5pades/saved/NnLxGX I recently began an endeavor of trying to get the best VR experience I could out of my current system. I bought an Oculus quest along with the Partylink cable and a pcie USB-C port expansion card to be able to play H3VR. However, most if not all of my experience has been plagued with input and frame lag, movement issues, rendering problems, artifacting, and other issues. The quest itself works fine standalone when not linked to my PC, but as soon as it is, it's like I'm stuck in a pre-alpha version of existence, where nothing is quite the way it's supposed to be. At first I realized that 75% of my GPU memory was being eaten by my Radeon relive playback feature, which I disabled. After that, my performance got a bit better but was still very jittery. The SteamVR performance test app says that my GPU's memory was to blame, and that I would have to upgrade my graphics card to get the best experience. However, other RX570 owners have told me that their performance was just fine, and to not go upgrading my GPU. Others said that the problem was a result of my CPU's low core and thread count compared to newer options was to blame, causing a bottleneck on what would otherwise be a perfectly functioning GPU. Others have told me that their CPUs at similar core, thread, and clock speeds were perfectly adequate. I began to look at my cord being faulty, which is unlikely because of its high Amazon review rating and the fact that it's specifically constructed for this purpose. Then I began to suspect my pcie expansion card, but I later realized that the problems persisted whether the cord was plugged into the expansion card or into the board with an adapter. At this point I have no idea what is causing my jittering and lagging. I'm just trying to get as good of an output as is seen in Anton's (the H3VR dev) videos depicting his development of the game. I'm currently considering two things: selling my quest and buying a Rift S, which is specifically designed to work while tethered to a PC. OR: Upgrade my cpu (to a 2600x) and my gpu (to an 8gb 5500xt) as well as getting a board with its own USB-C port and the official $80 oculus cable. This would be the option that is most likely to completely solve my problems, but is a drastic measure because that would be roughly a $500- $550 venture. So, what do you think? Has anyone experienced problems like mine, or have the general knowledge to tell me if I should just cut my losses / upgrade my system or not? Thanks for your responses.

There is finally a GTA mod that's worth playing where the screen isn't warped looking because of vorpx. I also figured out how to increase the resolution (the tray tool doesn't work). EDIT: Most of the steps in this guide are no longer relevant since the last update to the mod. Just follow the steps Luke Ross gives in the link below. I'll leave my steps up just to keep the information up about how to mess around with the settings file. Might be useful to someone. Mod download link: https://github.com/LukeRoss00/gta5-real-mod Here are the steps I used to get it running smoothly and to increase the resolution a bit: Step 1: Start game, go to settings. Step 2: Under gamepad tab, change Targeting Mode to free aim. Step 3: Under Camera, set the Independent Camera Mode to OFF. Step 4: Under Camera, set First Person Vehicle Hood to OFF. Step 4: Under Camera, set First Person Third Person Cover to ON. Step 5: Save settings and shut down game. Step 6: Copy contents of zip file to GTA V steam folder. Step 7: Go to Documents, Rockstar Games, GTA V and make a backup of settings.xml Step 8: Copy the settings.xml file from D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\Settings\High to the GTA V folder in Documents and overwrite the file. Step 9: Open the settings file with Notepad, find the line that controls the refresh rate and set it to 90. Step 11: Save the file and open the game again. Step 12: Go to the in-game settings, change Vsync to off then save & exit the game again. Step 13: Open your Nvidia Control Panel, go to Manage 3d Settings, click on the drop down menu next to DSR and check all of the boxes. Leave the DSR smoothness at 33%. Step 14: In the settings file, set the resolution to 2560 x 1440 Step 15: Save the file and open the game again. Load the story mode and make sure that the frame rate is 90 fps with the Oculus Tray Tool. *You can increase the pixel density a little more by first unticking read only in the settings file again with the game open, going into the advanced settings in the game, and increasing the frame scaling mode. Set the file to read only again when you're done and make sure that the refresh rate didn't get set back to 60 again. If the game crashes whenever you open your desktop: .Go to documents\rockstar games\gta v .Right click the settings file, untick read only if you need to and click apply. .Open the file in notepad, change windowed value to 1. .Change PauseOnFocusLoss value to 0. .Save the file. .Right click it and change it to read only again. (You might also need to make sure your resolution setting in windows is bigger than the resolution the game is running at.) And that's it. I've been playing this all weekend and I hated all of the GTA V mods that came before this. It's finally playable so if you've tried older mods, don't dismiss this one.

video editing 8k and higher VR video editing rig
axlvrtours posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
$5000 budget. Can go over budget. In USA. Need to edit 8k to 11k 360 VR video in Davinci Resolve. Not a heavy gamer... so workstation over gaming. Been researching this for 6 months. Project getting funded in December 2019. I've been using pcpartpicker.com to configure different rigs within my budget. AMD 3600 x570 motherboard Or Threadripper (under $500) x399 motherboard Will Not be using watercooling. So the 180 TDP of the TR scares me. The 3600 is 65 TDP. I like my quiet builds. AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100 Or NVIDIA 2080 ti Do I need 2 video cards? Memory - 64 gigs of 3600. Enough? Monitor? Probably 2. One pro with factory calibration. 27" to 32". Seems like every pro monitor I've looked at had 1 star reviews that scared me away. Haven't narrowed that down yet. Case is Cooler Master HAF XB EVO. Want MB to be horizontal. Need at least one external drive bay. I have network storage already. Do I really need NAS drives for PC? 2x 1 terabyte m.2 NVME drives. 1 for OS and other for current project. 1 SSD Drive and 2 harddrives for raid storage. I do play some games, Might get Borderlands 3 or Outer Worlds. But not really a big gamer. I'm not a pro at editing. Mostly just family movies and Boy Scout camping trips.. It has been a lot to learn... have 4k 360 camera and my current rig works, most of the time... Will be building a content channel and maybe some paid work. Need pro equipment. Want rig to be future proof for higher k resolution videos. A 4k 360 video is really only 720P per eye. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.- 3 replies

So obviously with new release of the Quest all of the attention oculus has, has primarily been towards it and its futher development. Which is quite understandable. However what I want to know is what they plan to do with the Rift S. To my knowldge the Rift S is still better than the Quest in every way other than its tethered to a PC and has a worse display. And its that last advantage the Quest has thats got me wondering what they will do with the Rift S. As to me it doesnt make sense that the Quest (which has to have the graphics of the games it has tonned down to be able to run) have the higher resolution and OLED display. The Rift S and the Quest were released quite close together so its not like they didnt have the ability to make the Rift S with the better display and better resolution. And from what ive been told even with the lower resolution and the worse display it still looks better graphically because its able to have the full textures rather than the reduced ones on the Quest. So it just doesnt seem logical to make the Rift S with those down falls. As its just resulted in Oculus killing its own product. And with the current standing of the two being priced the same its just making things more confusing as to why Oculus would do this. So overall what im hoping for from Oculus is that they release something like a Rift S 2 or an equivilant that simply just has the better resolution and display pannels. Or possibly even drop the prices on the current Rift S and when going to purchase one have the option for the better display. Although im not a electrical engineer or some kind of product designer it doesnt seem like it would be that hard to impliment. Esspecially seeing as they have it on the Quest which would seem like a more complex device.
