Hey guys! So I'm currently building my brother a microatx PC which will mostly be used for gaming and Solidworks/Matlab simulations for college. However I was stuck when it came to deciding on a cooler since we travel internationally when we go home (being international students) and tend to take our pcs with us. I didn't want to use a tower cooler like the Noctua's or be quiet!'s since i don't want the cooler's weight to physically stress the motherboard since airport staff don't really take the fragile stickers too seriously... I got around it with my pc by using a corsair h100i, so only the pump stays attached. I remove my GPU whenever flying. So that leaves me with either a 120mm AIO liquid cooler or a low profile cooler. I could use an h80i, but since I'm using a SIlverstone SG09 case, I've heard some folks having GPU clearance issues resulting in moving the GPU to a lower PCI slot. My other option was to use Noctua's NH-L9i. I most likely will only overclock to 4.0Ghz at most, since any additional juice isn't really needed, I was wondering if I should just go with the NH-L9i. Unless you have any info of someone successfully using a 120mm AIO liquid cooler in the SG09/SG10. Also if you have time, I was wondering if you have any good recommendations for a PSU that is compatible with the SG09, since the internal cable is rotated 180 degrees to the PSU's socket, which will result in a lot of twisting of the cable. Refer this forum link towards the bottom: http://www.overclock.net/t/1327623/build-log-silverstone-sg09-micro-atx-sff-powerhouse Here's the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/colflame/saved/VhdMnQ Thanks for an advice and help! And hope you have a great Thanksgiving Day!

I'm currently speccing up a build, which will be compact enough to travel with, even to the point of being able to taken on a plane (boxed, under 7kg, if possible). It will eventually be retired to the TV for general media viewing / gaming / and design (Creative Suite). I'm based in NZ, so we are somewhat limited in what is offered here. I have purchased the Antec ISK600, but am yet to finalise the hardware. This is what i'm considering thus far; CPU - Intel Haswell Core i3 4160 Motherboard - ASUS Z97I-PLUS Intel Z97 ITX (Wifi Version) Ram - Mushkin Blackline FrostByte G3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-2400 Power Supply - Corsair HX-750i (750W) overkill, but nice and quiet while not under load Graphics Card - EVGA GTX 750ti SSD (OS) - 128 GB Samsung 840 Pro Series HDD - Western Digital Green (3TB) Interested to hear your thoughts!

Hi, I just watched the Mod24 video and in the end they talked about "the plane to germany next week". Do they travel their or was it only just for lols? Sorry if I'm asking like a noob and don't be up to date. Does someone know something about that or not? ~iFriedi

Would the hadron air be a good case to take on the train or plane for example? Would the components be easily damaged? Looking at one of NCIX's video with linus -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZhg4yi7XKo it looks like it was quite compact and secure. Thanks, Blueprint

Has anyone had any experience traveling overseas with their PCs? Will be moving to New Zealand in a week and need to ship two identical PCs. Looking for any helpful hints, will be going with a commercial moving company, but I'd prefer packaging them myself. Pieces of note: Cooler Master HAF X, nVidia 680GTX, Noctua 6 Dual Heatpipe, and BenQ XL2420T. Thanks!

What are some of the best MATX cases apart from the 350D and Arc Mini R2? And also what's the best small MATX case? Thanks, Blueprint

Heya. I'm going to DHS in 2 weeks and am incredibly excited for it. First time for me, from Holland. Gonna be awesome. I'm just wondering one thing: SHould I pack my PC in a bag considering I'll be standing in a queue for an hour or maybe several and I'm going to travel up north for about 1000KM? If so, where should I look for one? I have no idea where to look for this kind of stuff and I was hoping someone might have experience! I have a mid-ATX case, so it's not excessively large or small. If peripherals can be stuffed in there, that'd be extra great.

So I am deciding that it's time to move away from laptops, as the technology is starting to get smaller and smaller. I have built 2 PC's in my lifetime, one was a full sized build, and the other was a mini ITX build for my friend. In my experience, the mini ITX build was far more easier to build. So I want to build this computer for travel. A computer that is small and portable, but packs a punch for gaming. I have put together a parts list on Amazon, let me know what you think. Keep in mind this not supposed to be a crazy gaming rig, I want to keep the general price of the computer at around $1,100. Also: what would be the best AMD CPU for a mini ITX motherboard? I want this to be an AMD build for 2 reasons: 1, I have never done an AMD build before, and I would like this build to be educational in a sense that I will have some experience with AMD. 2. I know the build will be FAR more cheaper because of the CPU alone. http://amzn.com/w/1S16AFYCVH2YA I know that the case is VERY expensive, but the look of that case was the EXACT look I thought of when thinking about a portable rig.

So i'm basically looking for a laptop/notebook (what's the difference again? i dunno) for under 700 bucks. Main Purpose: Get shit done in school. Research in internet, use word/excel/pp for stuff, homework. A little gaming here and there, Watching dvd at GF's place. Not having to rage over a f****** slow piece of garbage. I have a reasonable gaming rig at home that I use for real gaming. I'm looking for something that i can use when I'm in Train and need to learn for school/do homework. I want it to be 17" at least (I can't handle small screens...), and if possible no more than 700$ (+-50 bucks). Please use http://en.toppreise.ch/grp1_1.html?view=ngf&def=17 to check if said laptop is purchasable in switzerland (my country). If it isn't in there, i'm most likely unable to buy it (without extraordinous shipping fee +tax). What I thought of: http://en.toppreise.ch/prod_361389.html ]LENOVO G710 - looks really nice. What do you think? Anything better out there? I want to get the best out of my buck Thank you guys for helping me out. You are all great!

Hi all, Heading to the USA in August and I'm looking to get some headphones for the flight to reduce the engine noise but still have good audio quality for the whole trip. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Hey, guys. First post, I usually lurk a fair bit. As the title says, I've been looking into mATX builds recently, and I've got a fair number of questions about it all (mATX, air travel with a desktop, other stuff). Specifically, this is the build I'm contemplating: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1ZmNe **Note that I already have everything besides the case, CPU, and motherboard** Here are some things that concern me/thoughts I've had about this potential build: I've thought about getting an aftermarket cooler, something like the Corsair H80, but I don't want to get anything I don't actually need for a functional build. I've heard from people that I may have to remove the 5.25" drive bay, considering the length of my card, but I assume that I can also just put the card on a lower PCIe slot. Another concern would be if I'd need lower profile RAM or not. Again, I figure it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but I can't be too careful. How would I go about cable management? Would that be a major concern? My PSU isn't modular, so there's a chance that free cables would create hassle. Is that easily avoidable? What else should I look out for if I move forward with this? As for the travel part, any tips/tricks to travelling with a desktop? I was thinking of taking most of the internal components out (i.e. drives, grahics card, RAM), wrapping those in anti-static and carrying them with me, and leaving the case with firm foam in it, all in some sort of hard-shell luggage case. And, if it doesn't fit snugly, I'd surround the case with more foam in the luggage. As far as I've seen, this seems like the ideal way to do it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was something even easier and safer to do (besides staying at home and not travelling). Anyway, thanks in advance for whatever help you guys offer, and I'll see you around! --Gnarly

Since I'm going to university starting this September, I am looking for a replacement set of IEMs/Earbuds/whatever you want to call them. Currently, I am using the Sennheiser CX300-II which I am quite happy with. At first I hated the asymmetric, but now I am starting to like it. Sadly enough, I'm on my second pair in 2 years (first one got broken on one side), and this one is starting to wear down. I guys I've watched too much YouTube and listened to too much music... So I have a few requirements for the new set of IEMs: Good build quality: since I am going to travel between the university and home they need to be sturdy. This is really important! Good sound quality: well Captain Obvious Noise isolation: would be nice if that's was good too, but that's not a must. Since the busses can be really, annoyingly loud here, some good noise isolation would be nice. Not too expensive: since I would really like a pair of Bose IEMs, they are way too expensive. I was thinking of paying about $100, but then the €-equivalent, since I live in The Netherlands. If possible, I would like a remote and a mic with it. This is partly for the travelling and also for the PS4 (for that, see below). This refers back to the previous point: I would like the remote and mic to be at least compatible with Android. Apple won't be necessary, since I can use the buttons on the iPad. My phone will be in my pocket, so for the the remote would be nice. The IEMs will be used for various things; mostly music (what else can you do in the train), with my notebook at school (nothing special I think), for YouTube (think notebook, iPad, smartphone) and playing games on the PS4 and PS Vita.I quite like a bit of bass, but the overall sound still has to be really good. Sadly enough, I know close to nothing about the various terms about audio, so that's a point where I'm going to need some help of you guys. A special thing I would like is compatibility with the Playstation 4. This might sound a bit weird, but since my Turtle Beaches (X11's for the Xbox 360 originally) are starting to wear down I would like to have the possibility to use these IEMs with the PS4 too. I don't know if it would be possible to use the mic with the PS4, but the best thing would be if I could plug in 1 3,5mm jack cable in the PS4 controller and have working sound and mic. I hope you guys can help a guy with some really bad audio knowledge, because I really need it. Suggestions for products would be nice, but just some things I need to look for would be fine too!

Is there any way to make your travel faster? I want to travel from Egypt to Germany in less than 1 minutes. 2nd Question: Is there any flight without Airport? I might some countries or cities don't have a airport.

We've all seen those YouTube videos where they go through their laptop bag/tech bag/tech they bring with them when they travel. I figured it would be cool to see what non-tech YouTubers bring with them. So LTT Forum members, what is in your tech bag? My laptop bag has the following: Bag: Amazon Basics 15.6" Laptop and Tablet Bag Smallest pocket: 3 microfiber clothes of different sizes Big (middle) Pocket: Laptop: MSI GS66 Stealth Laptop Charger Tablet: iPad 5th gen in STM Dux case or iPad pro 2020 11" with 2nd gen Apple Pencil and Logitech Slim Folio Pro case Organizer Pocket: Uni Kuru Toga mechanical pencil with extra eraser and lead (best pencils there are) Pilot G-2 Pen No-name portable charger from costco Airpods 2nd Gen Some old Bose wired earbuds MSI Clutch GM11 Gaming Mouse Wall wart with usb c Wall wart with usb a usb a to micro b cable usb c to usb c cable lightning cable flashdrive Sorry mods if this is should be in off topic, but i figured it was tech related and belonged here

I'm looking for a travel laptop (i.e. light and small) which will be able to handle Photoshop or Lightroom RAW image editing (just basic edits, nothing crazy like huge panaoramas or anything) for around £500 ($700). I'd like to have an i5 if possible, though I know the budget may limit that. I thought a used Surface Pro 3 would fit my budget/needs nicely, however I really don't like that it's so hard (or near-impossible) to disassemble and replace the battery, so long-life longevity worries me. Other than that, it would be almost ideal, so are there any "proper" laptops which come close to the size and have easily replaceable batteries?

So, has anyone ever taken a set of screwdrivers (sub-7 inches for TSA compliance) and spare batteries for their laptop (built-in sub 100 Wh, but replaceable, like a framework level of difficulty here) and actually bothered replacing a battery on the plane due to the built in one running out of juice? Forget any rational questions you may have about why just curious as to answers to this silly (potentially dangerous if you puncture the battery) idea. EDIT: I'm incredible disappointed with the responses I got. I'm not going to go through my technical or personal background, but yes, I have considered literally every danger point, safety concern, etc. written below and a number not. I'm not surprised by any of it. I also didn't ask to the feasibility, practicality, desirability, etc. of the matter. The question asked IF anyone HAS done it. I remember actually having a genuine moment where I considered posting this question asking if this incredibly stupid ideas has been done before because I feared that the comments would be filled with lots and lots of people posting about "why would you even?" or "have you considered obvious bad thing about obvious bad idea?" or "this would obviously be bad idea due to point mentioned in the question itself". In other words, negative reactions to an idea admitted in the second line to be terrible simply asking if terrible idea has ever had a practitioner willing to talk about it come out and share what they've learned with the class "Yes, fire indeed hot and hot in this particular way with this particular pain feeling" and no one actually answering the darn question. Indeed, that is what happened. There has got to be some concise way to signal that "idea is bad and I know that, now can anyone answer silly idea with silly response". Side note: most technically competent people are not so good outside their chosen domain. You'd be very surprised, but doctors, especially research doctors, are stupid bad at dealing with tech beyond a certain level. They'll have cache sync issues with their own code (regardless of if they write it or not), printer issues, etc. The only people I've ever met that were still doing the two finger keyboard typing game were in a research lab. So, they're just as likely to get freaked as anyone else

Wow, even if I had the slightest like of the Xbox One now it's not there anymore  . Okay so what is this about? It's about Xbox One blocking activation of games outside of the IP range of a supported country. Meaning if you travel and want to take your Xbone with you, it will be a useless paper wight (imagine the dimension of the paper if you are using Xbone as paper wight :)) ). Here is the source: Twitter feed to the image: HERE Funny post on the twitter feed by @gi4ouR: Source and more about this info: eTeknix.com Edit: by courtesy of our LinusTechTips member @Sundanc3 posting this info: Xbox changed their way of thinking of used games, his post here with the source there. A few bullet points that are most important from his source: Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required Share access to your games with everyone inside your home Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere Trade-in and resell your disc-based games Give your games to friends So yeah please do check his post, or to be more precise his source because he only posted a source no comments about what it's there... Check it because it elaborates every bullet point I posted here. Anyways do you think that this will help Xbone? Because I think it will.

Thought that this was an interesting article that may have a large impact on @LinusTech and other YouTubers attending future conventions. In an article posted on Engadget, the FAA is proposing new rules that would limit the electronics that you can check in at the airport to the size of a cellphone or smaller in order to limit the risk of a lithium-ion battery exploding and creating an unmanageable fire in the cargo compartment. https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/20/faa-proposes-ban-large-electronics-checked-baggage/ Petapixel article: https://petapixel.com/2017/10/20/us-urging-airlines-ban-cameras-checked-bags/ This is kind of interesting in which I'm not sure how you would classify something as cellphone size or smaller... Most modern cellphones contain a battery that can be several times larger than a digital camera battery pack. According to the FAA document they are considering this for large Portable Electronic Devices (PED)s which they define as a laptop, tablet, or similar device that is larger than a cellphone or smartphone. I'll admit that I usually carry all my electronics on my carry-on, however that's usually limited to a small digital camera, smartphone, tablet, Switch and an external 20,000 mAH battery pack. This also will probably impact anything that you try to order online and have to get delivered via air as in my experience recently Amazon will not ship large battery packs on air delivery.

Im starting my first job and am requiring a backpack with lots of space. So i can put a laptop, a few accessories, small electronics and a few cloths (will be away from home for week days) sometimes.
