I'm trying to restore an old laptop I have just to do some web browsing and watching movies. I ordered all the parts I could possibly need ( including charger, which I had lost), when the charger came in I powered it on only to find out that for some reason it requires a password at the very beginning right after hitting the power button. It gives me 3 chances to enter the correct password, and then it powers down without giving a code or anything. I have pulled the whole thing apart looking for the battery, or jumper with no luck. Please please help me! Toshiba Satellite A55-S306

So I need to fix a Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5159, and I have no clue where to start. It was working the night before, got turned off as normal. Won't start in the morning. All the data off the hard drive is miraculously saved after I accidentally dropped it from ~3 feet, and the laptop won't boot into the BIOS with or without the drive installed. Doesn't start with the battery. Doesn't start with the battery and plugged in. Doesn't start with no battery and plugged in. Does not work when plugged into another monitor. This is the most I get from pressing the power button: I can kinda/sorta hear the fan inside spinning a bit but that's about it. Any ideas? Can't exactly go out and but a new laptop.

Alright so I badly want a gaming computer but the problem that I am running into is that I have next to no funds for a new pc. I do have a laptop right now that isn't too too bad in it's processing and gaming capabilities... but I want better. Lol. So right now I have a Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5357 and I want to upgrade my CPU and GPU. I have seen a video on cleaning out one of these laptops and seen that it isn't too hard to change out the CPU but I am not sure about the GPU. So I guess my main questions are: 1. What CPU's are compatable with this laptop? 2. How would I go about replacing the GPU? 3. Would these upgrades hurt my computer? (overheating, not a proper PSU to handle the upgrades, etc.) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Oh and, I have taken apart my previous laptop (and successfully put it back together) so I have a general understanding of how everything works and fits in there.

Does anyone have any experience with the 3.5" variety of Toshiba drives? I'm looking to but the 3TB because my 1TB Hitachi is too small for my needs. Also, since Toshiba bought Hitachis hard drive business, would a Toshiba drive basically be Hitachi made? Thanks in advance

Anandtech reported, AMD officially launched their Radeon SSD line. This time the product design, manufacturing, and even the customer support is handled by OCZ. It has three capacity, 120GB, 240GB, & 480GB. OCZ Barefoot 3 M00 controller is used in these ssds, together with Toshiba's A19nm MLC flash. The price of the new ssd is $100 for the 120GB model, $164 for the 240GB model, and $299 for 480GB model. All Radeon ssds come with a 4 year warranty. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8392/amd-jumps-into-the-ssd-market-radeon-r7-series-ssd-launched http://www.techpowerup.com/204291/amd-announces-the-radeon-r7-line-of-solid-state-drives.html

VR-Zone Chinese reported, after HGST released the 6TB drive, Toshiba Taiwan sent out invitations for a press con., saying they will launch their 5TB drive and new ssds. The press con. will be on the 19th Feb (probably in Taiwan, as the invitation was sent by Toshiba Taiwan). The drive is similar to the HGST 6TB drive, as it is also an enterprise-level drive, with both sata and sas interface. But still no detail spec was released. Toshiba will also announce their new consumer and enterprise-level ssds in that press con, but too no detail spec were released. http://chinese.vr-zone.com/100746/toshiba-will-announced-5tb-hdd-with-sas-and-sata-interface-02102014/ (in Chinese)

I'm buying a laptop soon and I'm wondering weather it is worth it to get a Seagate 5400 rpm 500 gb with 64 mgb cache SSHD or put in 20-30 dollars more for a Toshiba SSHD that has 8 gb of cache instead of a measly 64 megs. Thoughts? If your wondering, I want an sshd so I can have the size of a hard drive but also have fast boot times and quick program load times without having to pay for the equivalent sized SSD.

http://www.maximumpc.com/toshibas_hg6_series_solid_state_drives_arrive_19nm_nand_flash_memory These are being branded as Toshiba SSDs, despite the recent OCZ purchase. Drives are apparently going to be made under the OCZ brand regardless. They will, according to a Toshiba press release (http://storage.toshiba.com/docs/default-source/press-releases/hg6_series_release.pdf?sfvrsn=0) begin shipping in March 2014.

I bought a Toshiba laptop about a year ago and I've always noticed that the fan runs quite loud. I checked the cpu temperature and It's only running at 55 c and the fan is running at 65%! Why does Toshiba run the fan so high at such low temperatures?

Hello! I have Toshiba A505-S6035. It's 1st generation of i7 with nvidia gt330m. And cooling system of this laptop is not that good enough. I get overheating and turning off even in Chrome with many tabs. Maybe some of you guys also have this laptop. What should I do to make this laptop work in normal cooling condition. Disassembling and replacing thermal compound doesn't help for a long period of time. Lowering cpu speed also is not preferable for me. I tried couple good laptop cooling pads. They didn't work for me. Maybe some of you tried Deepcool Multicore X6 ? What can you say about it? Thanks!

Hello guys! I have a quick question, my friend's dad gave me a 256gb mSATA SSD for free and I never knew these existed till today. What are they used for? How do they compare to normal SSD's? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! I have recently gotten into trouble with my laptop (Packard Bell LJ71) The problem consist in that whenever i game 3D games that the computer all the sudden will freeze and display the last visible picture with an vertical line over it (Line is always random placed), If I doesn't turn the computer off on the power bottom, does the screen begin to be white in the sides and spreads out untill the whole screen is white, However i read in another thread that the normal Coreclock for my graphic device was 450 (Instead of 550) and memory clock normal was 600 (instead of 700), so i decided to underclock my card with MSI afterburn and it does fix the problem untill you start the computer up cold (Haven't turned it on for aprox. 12 hrs). The problem first occurred when i switched from Linux to Windows, Hope anyone have any suggestions what to do to fix it, or if there is any easy way to clock down my card permanently. Specs & Info: InsydeH2O Bios V. 1.07 (Newest) CPU: AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M540 2.40 GHZ Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (M96) (Newest driver is installed!) Ram: 8GB DDR2 OS: Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64 bit (Up to date) PLEASE WRITE IF ANY INFO IS NEEDED!

Toshiba is releasing a new laptop called the "Dynabook Kira" that CLAIMS to have a 22 hour battery life. Pretty impressive, especially considering it's an ultrabook. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/dynabook-kira-battery-life-22-hours,25132.html

Hi everyone, my laptop is having an overheating issue. It has always ran hot, the i7 720qm run hotter than most cpu's but its getting too hot and blue screening. It idles around 60 c, and browsing and other low cpu tasks bring it to mid 70 c. Once gaming within 5 minutes it is thermal throttling at 100 c then eventually BSOD. So the problem is the fan hardly spins up. When I first got the laptop it used to be loud. I've tried using compressed air, making sure cooling is on active, using a laptop cooler nothing works. Do you guys think it could be the fan going bad? One thing interesting is I can't get any hardware monitoring program to show the fan speed. This used to not be a problem. Maybe a bios problem then? The over heating issue is definitely because the fan isn't spinning fast enough but how do I fix it? Thanks in advanced.

(Sorry for the double post; I posted this in the "mobile" subforum yesterday morning but have got no views or replies, so I figured I'd post it here.) Sup guys. I got this laptop fairly recently for a C programming course I took at a university for 3 weeks. As of now, I don't really use it now, as I can now program at home on my desktop. However, I want to use this laptop more. And what better way than to make it into a gaming machine, which is what I do most on a PC anyways. I discovered this product called the ViDock (http://www.villageinstruments.com/tiki-index.php?page=ViDock), some of you guys may have already heard about it, but for those who haven't, it essentially allows you to use your regular desktop graphics card on your laptop via mounting it externally. My question doesn't really require knowledge about the ViDock itself; I would just like to know if this laptop would perform well with something like a 660 Ti or some budget oriented graphics card. Maybe something like the 2GB 750 Ti models. I'm looking to play games like Counter Strike Global Offensive, Arma 3, Battlefield 4/Hardline, and later this year GTA V. Of course the monitor I'll be using would be 1080p, and I don't expect to get steady 60 FPS maxed settings, just playable framerates. The laptop I have is the Toshiba C55-B5200 (http://www.toshiba.com/us/computers/laptops/satellite/C50/C55-B5200); as you can see, the price isn't actually that bad for what you get. You get 6GB of GDDR5 RAM that's unreplaceable, 750GB 5400 RPM HDD, and an i3 34005U CPU. All of the specs would be considered pretty good for a gamine machine, but it's the processor that I'm concerned about. I know that nowadays gaming is more reliant on the graphics card more than ever, but I was just wondering if this computer would work well with the said previously stated graphics cards mounted via the ViDock. Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to refresh Windows 8 on my Toshiba Laptop and before I could upgrade to 8.1 it needed "more updates" I installed the first update wave. And now after restarting(for updates) It is stuck in Failure Configuring Windows Updates. Reverting Changes. It had been more than 45 minutes on this screen. Then asked me to login. Then Instantly went to Restarting. And now it has been stuck on Failure Configuring Windows Updates reverting changes for an Hour. Anyway to Fix This? I don't have a windows 8 code visible anywhere on the laptop, but I have a windows 8.1 disk for my desktop.

Hello, I have a problem with my notebook that started about 2 years ago but now its starting to *Bad word* me off [Toshiba A300]. Its a really weird crash, screen stops (has a still image), sound bugs out (repeating what I imagine being the last piece of the sound in memory), BUT the disc driver still opens and closes (and spins checking for a disc), indicator LED's are kinda weird (they work when I unplug the power from the notebook, but the HDD LED is either always off or always on, when its on, I checked it, the HDD is doing absolutely nothing), switching from headphones to speakers works, mouse and keyboard still have lights. Sometimes the computer restarts itself after 10 secs and when it comes back on it shows a blue screen report, but most of the times it shows no error at all and in the error log it says "kernel: power" or something like that wich I assume its when power fails except it doesnt. I had a bad battery before, but it stopped working so I got a new one hoping to fix the problem exept it didn't. I went to a tecnician and he said some notebooks from Toshiba have a problem with some kind of driver that switches the processor power from battery to direct or vice-versa, so I checked on the internet for people that had this problem and it has nothing to do with mine, other people's computers crash on load, this one doesn't. I still believe its a processor problem tho, cuz the graphics card is still working and so is the BIOS(I think). I checked the RAM, HDD too, everything is working correctly. Is there anything that might help me find the root of this problem?

Hi, all LTT guys I have this Toshiba Laptop that overheated once on me and now it doesn't want to start anymore. No lights on the front of the unit, nor light around the start button. I was simply playing Modded Minecraft when suddenly I heard a little click and two seconds later, power down. Since i'm slightly accustomed to the fact that laptops overheat (cough cough old HP), i flipped the laptop upside down and let it cool for 10 mins. Still no result in getting it fired up again after cooling down. I have 2 questions: I imagine that the CPU has fried itself? Can anyone confirm this? How does a 5 year old HP laptop warn me when shutting down because of overheating, yet a new 2 MONTH OLD Toshiba simply fries my CPU? Luckily i'm still in warranty. + I have read upon their warranty agreements and even their most basic 1 year pack doesn't say it doesn't cover overheating

Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/toshiba-storage-place-android-iphone,27148.html So, Toshiba just introduced their new storage-solution, "Storage Place", that can give you 10 GB of space for $39.99/year. Interestingly, this is a mix between cloud-storage and local storage. "Storage Place" is available for iOS, Android and Windows (Source: https://toshibastorageplace.com).
