Hey guy's, I will soon be finished with my last year of school and will go on a year-long exchange in Brazil, I currently have a "good" gaming PC. I currently play with the Idea of selling all the parts online and building a new setup when I come back in Juli 2018. Now this is where I need your help, is this worth it? Will I at the end have a better Gaming setup without spending that much more Money, or is this just a dumb idea and I shouldn't do it? This is my current Gaming setup: CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER SP RAM: 16GB DDR3 GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X Storage: 1x 230GB SSD 2x 128GB SSD (RAID 0) 1x 1TB HDD PSU: 630 Watt be quiet! Pure Power L8 Display(s): Asus PB287Q | Some other Asus Monitor Cooling: My PC is cooled by the freezing winters of Germany I hope this is the right thread, I´m really sorry if it isn´t but I thought that it was the most fitting, if I´m wrong please tell me so I can change it.

Hello guys, I'm new to this community, so I hope to get along with you all I'm doing my first DIY PC and my budget is around 800 USD, maybe a little more. I live in India so the value changes from time to time but to be absolute, I have 55000 INR to complete this. I already have a SSD, so I didn't add any new (also due to tight budget lol) and I don't really need a DVD/Blu-Ray Reader/Writer currently, so left that out too. I would mostly do gaming and little video editing. Here's the link of my build: https://in.pcpartpicker.com/list/rGhPcc If the site opens with US as location, please change it to India because it will most likely will be a lot cheaper there. I made the whole setup with about 4-5 days of research, so there may be some stupid parts picked by me. I'm not really an expert lol. So guys please share you thoughts and suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Hey guys! I just ordered what will be my first ever custom rig, after months (really) of waiting for better hardware and pricing (also availability because #México), I went for this parts: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($188.75 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($73.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($67.79 @ Newegg) Storage: PNY CS1311 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($49.99 @ Jet) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB SC GAMING ACX 2.0 Video Card ($144.99 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterBox 5 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($31.98 @ Newegg) Total: $617.47 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-02-27 03:59 EST-0500 So, in the beginning I was aiming for the NZXT S340 Elite White case, but, you guessed, it isn't available anywhere in my country and paying for importing and shipping fees is just not convenient for me and my tight budget, so I went for the Coolermaster Masterbox 5, which I got for about $48 dlls. new and shipped, pretty neat. I had to make the choice of more ram and a bigger ssd or a better gfx card, so in the end, I figured ram and ssd costs less and can be upgraded easily later, while I may stay with this gfx card for a while, so I went for the 4GB EVGA 1050 Ti OC card after watching many many reviews (I want to play Overwatch/BF1 mostly and I don't care for Ultra presets, atleast not for now) a 120GB PNY SSD and 8GB of 2666Mhz HyperX ram. I really invested in a somewhat not bottom-line motherboard so I could upgrade the rest of my components for later and got the B250M for about $65. And now the only thing that worries me is if the system will or will not overheat, from my "research" having a case with free space is better for air flow, but also using my logic, the lack of a top grill may impact the temperatures, I just don't know how much. What do you guys recommend I get for cooling? now that I have my system complete, I can start upgrading individual parts and have more time to save up for it.

Hey, I've got a problem. Inside windows my time is always about 5 mins late. If I enter the time manually after restarting the time is 5 min behind if I set the time zone the time is always about 15 too late. I don't know why this keeps happening thank you for your answers.

Hey! Hope you all are having a great start to the new year. I have a litthe bit of a problem. I am trying to build my first PC and have gained some basic knowledge from Linus's videos and other tutorials on YouTube. I have only used mac as my main driver for as long as I can remember and have only ever played games on console. This is what I have gathered so far for my new PC build. CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7 GHz Case: NZXT S340 Mid Tower in blue PSU: EVGA 500 W1 Bronze Rated Powe supply unit. Storage: WD Blue 1Tb 7200 RPM hard drive Cooler: Stock Cooler (Only for now, will probably upgrade by next year) GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 Please tell me if all of this stuff is compatible, I'm pretty sure it is but it would be nice for the closure. You may notice I don't have a MoBo or RAM listed. Those are the last 2 parts I need. I need a good recommendation for a motherboard. I don't need any special features or overclocking, I just want something with decent on board sound, something that won't fail or break on me within a year and one that supports my processor. RAM is easy to find and I don't need anything on that front. If you have any tips that will help me out please give me everything you've got! However keep in mind I am on a strict 0$-550$ budget because I'm not even old enough to get a job yet to pay for all of this stuff. This is all coming from housework and snowblowing driveways.

so this is probally not the first post about some guy wanting to know what to get to build there pc, but no matter how many video's i watch or how many guides i look up i still don't really know what i should get. my budget is in between 1500-2000 euros. I game on a daily basis and i'm heavy on photo/film editing. currently i'm looking at these items: intel core i5-6600K/intel core i7-6800k processor ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO motherboard G.Skill 16GB DDR4-2400 MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G V330-001R EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 power supply Samsung EVO 850 MZ-75E120B/EU Internal SSD, 6,4 cm (2,5 inch), SATA III (250GB) Seagate BarraCuda 2 TB i'm trying to keep a black/red theme going. so are these items compatible and would this be a good option? thanks in advance

Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a X99 board and i saw that the Asus X99 Strix Gaming had stickers coming with it to change the color accents on the board. (They are named Customizable color decals) Are they one time use only? Do they just stick or it's some kind of clip? Here is the model! https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-X99-GAMING/ I can't find a place where they answer this question! Thank you all for your time!

So I bough in to Star Citizen a long time ago, possibly before Elite: Dangerous which I bought into around October of 2014. And I was just wondering if Star Citizen is worth downloading right now? I played it for a while when it was just the racing and hangers but I obviously got bored very quickly. Then I played it when I could actually fly around and fight stuff, then again when it was actually multiplayer but its never been that fun for me. But I love Elite: Dangerous even if it does get a bit boring I just like the community stuff, lore and the gameplay. Now to me Star Citizen is a lot more "realistic" with their flying and damage stuff which for me is meh because I like arcade stuff like Elite. Does Star Citizen have enough stuff that it would be worth it to download? Is there an actual open or semi open world to play in? Any cool stuff about the game that would help me get back into it would be great thanks!

I have this weird issue on my wife's laptop. The time shown on taskbar stops after a few minutes of idling and only catches up when something is done with the laptop. It never 'sleeps' because it's currently our HTPC as well as her workstation so I can see the time just stop and stay there. Moving the mouse doesn't do anything but when I open a browser or some other app the clock catches on within a second. This all started after one of the bigger windows updates, could have been the anniversary update or a previous big one. Windows time service is running as it should be. NTP is set to default (and works apparently because when not idling it shows the correct time). Have tried googling, but haven't found this exact issue. Anyone got any ideas?

So this topic can serve as an overall poll for when you think the best time to buy a phone is. Here are some basic questions to be answered for an individual device. So just ask the question for the device you want to buy and hopefully people will buy. When did it come out? What deals could be coming up? Buy it now or later? And anything else that you think is important. Me personally i am deciding when i should buy the one plus 3. Any tips for me?

Hi! Here's the code (excuse any errors, copying the code from VM cuz clipboard sharing just won't work ever): #include <iostream> #include <ctime> using namespace std; class TestClass { public: static void htdtp(); }; void TestClass::htdtp(){ time_t now; now = time(0); char* buffer; tm* timeinfo; timeinfo = gmtime(&rawtime); strftime (buffer, 80, "%a, %b %Y %X %Z", timeinfo); cout << buffer; } int main(){ TestClass::htdtp(); } The idea is to return, I've tried doing so and changing stuff around, and this is the point at which I gave up because it just keeps giving me the same error. This prints out "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" and I can't understand why, because when you put the exact same code that's inside htdtp in main and execute it, it works wonders. Why is this happening? Isn't a segmentation fault error supposed to be associated with ilegal memory usage? If everything is declared and uses exclusively inside the function how can that happen? Thank you.

Hi! First off, by date I mean date and time in an http response. I'm coding a web server in c++ for fun and I'm building a library to help with things I really don't wanna code more than once ever, one of them being the date in a specific format, and others without using ctime directly. I'm almost done, but now I wonder, what the f* is that for? I've gone through chrome back and forward and I haven't been able to find anything about any dates, and I tried using an arbitrary one, nothing happened, ofc I wanna do everything right but I'm actually clueless as off to why one would ever need this as it doesn't seem to get registered anywhere in the client side and any decent server could do it internally. Thank you.

You find someone that comes from the past (around 50 years) what would you show him?
Guest posted a topic in Off Topic
Umm idk how you'd exactly find him or anything, not necessarily a time machine. What would you show him to prove how much technology has advanced? -
Hello. I was going to customize a purchase from Cable mods but its my first build and I am very nervous to make the purchase..thinking i'll mess up. Around 8-10 months ago I built my very first PC. It was basic and due to some issues I never got to finish it. I have now finished school and have saved up around £1000 for my long awaited upgrade. I have noted the couple of things that I did wrong and are going to correct them in this upgrade. The aim of my PC eventually is for it to be as silent as possible. This is one of the main reasons for the large upgrade. I am undecided on what fans i will install into the case but was thinking maybe Silent Wings. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Current PC and what I am upgrading: CPU: Intel I7 4790K Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Ram: Kingston HyperX fury Red 1x8GB HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Blue Case: Zalman Z9 Plus >>> Upgrade: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX GPU: None >>> Upgrade: MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X/Z (Probably the Z, Will also be doing SLI in future reason why 750W PSU) PSU: EVGA SuperNova Nex 750W >>> Upgrade: Corsair RM750X Fans: None >>> Upgrade: Not sure, Silent Wings? Accessories: None >>> Upgrade: Hue+ Lighting So what do you guys think of my upgrade? Am I making a good choice? Should I change anything? Do you have any suggestions on what fans I should install? Thanks for any help it is truly appreciated!

Hi everyone! I'm making an online game where time is a pretty important thing, both for back-end systems and for the game mechanics. Timezones are pretty complex, and I do not believe I want to get into programming every single timezone with all their exceptions into the game. So my solution: Would it be a good idea to create a fictional time and date system for my game (it's a sci-fi game, so it's not out of place in such a game) on top of the Greenwich Meantime system? That way, everyone playing the game uses the same timezone, but I have 'masked' the fact that it's just GMT but with different namings. Any suggestions to original solutions to this problem? or any ideas? Thanks!

Hello! It's been a couple of years since I kept proper up to date with all the technology advancements in the PC universe. I've been looking to upgrade my GPU for a little while now, and will do to a 1080 or 1070. But ever since one of my MOSFETs on my motherboard decided to melt, killing off my good old Z77 ASUS V GENE and 3570K, I have been looking at some new stuff to buy. With innovation moving so slowly the last few years outside GPU technology, when do you guys reckon things will pick up again? and when do you think new technology will "force" a upgrade? As I said I'm not extremely up to date, so is there anything on the horizon that could bring an actual incentive for people on Sandy or Ivy Bridge to upgrade? DDR4 for example does not bring any impressive performance gains for a generational shift, nor does Skylake. I'm guessing there is no need for a PCIe 4.0 standard as of yet. However how long do you guys think it will take before PCIe 4.0 or a new SATA standard would be 'needed' or implemented? Or another form of technology that would be a proper selling point for new hardware? I am contemplating at the moment to wait a little while for Intel (or AMD for that matter) to release a new CPU generation and with that new motherboards following, it is my guess however that I might as well just buy current Skylake hardware as there is such little innovation. Thoughts?

Hey! It's me again OK, I have example.txt How the hell can I know, when the file was created using c++ (in windows only)?? >_< I'm not really skilled in programming yet... Everything I found was too difficult for me... If there is no simple way, can someone just provide me piece of code which will show file creation year? ^^"""" It would be PERFECT to have, for example, int a with value 2014 (year). help T_______T
