Hello I want to buy a sound card for my headphones - HyperX Cloud I, to get the most out of them. In future i might buy a better headset, but for now i am quite happy with them so no hurry. I currently use the onboard audio(SupremeFX) from my motherboard - Asus H170-Gaming Pro. Right now i am looking at two options: Asus Xonar U7 - brand new with 3 years warranty = 76$ or Asus Xonar D2X - second hand for about the same price as the U7 = 79$ I am only using headphones, so the extra 7.1 doesn't matter. Can you please help me decide? Or is there a better solution for this budget?

Would I benefit from a DAC or sound card over my motherboard?
InfamousGeezer posted a topic in Audio
Hi folks. I need help. I'm not sure how to understand DACs and Sound Cards. I was wondering if I'd get better sound from my 363D headset with a DAC or Sound Card? I'm wondering if my motherboards sound is good enough not to require a sound card? I have a ASUS Z97-A Motherboard https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97A/ and I considered these 2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Syba-Stereo-Headphone-Amplifier-SD-DAC63057/dp/B009WN7QT4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=dac usb headphone amplifier&tag=viglink_thaus-21 (not sure if this supports 7.1 sound?) Or https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-XONAR-DG-CMI-8786-profile/dp/B008C4JTJY/ref=sr_1_16?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1409782887&sr=1-16&keywords=xonar&tag=viglink_thaus-21 -
Hey folks. After building my new PC, I quickly came to the realization that the onboard audio introduces a fair amount of static into my microphone, and a very, very small amount into the actual audio output. Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable, high quality sound card that will, beyond a shadow of a doubt, eliminate any static in my audio? I also don't want to sacrifice any audio quality either, if possible.

I decided to go ahead and upgrade my audio setup to bring it in line with my current daily driver, the AKG K7XX's. Just wanted to get some opinions on a good sound card / AMP combo for these cans. I was thinking either an O2 or Magni 2 for the AMP (though still open to suggestion for others), but the sound card is a bit more difficult to nail down. I have seen a lot of good stuff related to the ASUS Xonar sound cards which run between $30-$70 depending on which version I get. But then I've also been looking at ones like the ASUS Essence STX II and the HT Omega Claro II which are $165-$200. I'm still willing to pay this much for a sound card, but only if it is worth the more than 200% increase in price over something like the Xonar series. Im not a huge audiophile and just want a setup that will make my headset sound AMAZING in any setting (videos, music, games). Bells and whistles in terms of connections, audio channels, mixers, and the like are not a big concern for me. Just overall sound quality and accuracy, and surround sound for gaming. So, again.... Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? Thank you in advance.

I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser PC 350 and I was wondering if a sound card or amp is needed for it considering they are 150ohms. My MOBO is a MSI H97 Guard Pro and some people are saying its fine for 150 ohm use. Or would they sound "tinny"? I'm not really too educated on ohms and resistance in headphones so any help would be appreciated. Thanks EDIT: My audio on my mother board is the Realtek ALC892

Hi there, new to the forums and looking for help! So an hour or two ago it seems that the integrated sound on my GA-970A-UD3P motherboard has more or less pooped itself and no longer outputs sound, just a maddening chirping sound. I would like some input into what would be considered a good price-range for a sound card, and if possible the best card in that range. Any help is appreciated in advanced, thanks!

With all the news about AMD, Nvidia, and intel, it is easy to miss the release of Creative's Sound BlasterX AE-5. In this age of "good enough" sound quality that comes with most motherboards, you might think there's no longer a place for this. That's why this Creative has opted to step up its game by adding.... RGB features in Sound BlasterX AE-5! Oh, did I mention it does come with a backplate as well? There is also a "Pure" edition that comes with four LED strips but isn't out yet - For only $150 you get - Industry Leading Audio Processing Updated, refined and perfected through years of being the clear leader in the sound processing field, the AE-5 is featured packed with the latest and greatest version of our award winning audio processing effects and algorithms that improves your music, movie and gaming experience along with crystal clear vocal reproduction and in-game voice communication enhancements that are always imitated but never duplicated Hi-resolution gaming DAC Plays up to 32-bit, 384 KHz high resolution pristine audio with SABRE-class DAC with 122dB dynamic range that satisfies the most demanding needs of pro-gamers and pro-audio users (More resolution means more room for audio processing for compromise signal quality) Xamp, Our custom-designed discrete headphone amplifier A custom-designed, dual-amp headphone amplifier built using discrete components capable of driving studio class headphones of up to 600 ohms Source: Creative.com, Newegg.com Heck the RGB alone is worth $150! I'm joking, but this is nice to have. The rest of the features like sound quality and options are just a bonuses from the RGB card. But come on, honestly, for $150 you get support for 32-bit/384KHz audio, amp that can power 16-600ohm headphones, 7.1 channels, optical out, and RGB. Add it now to your Holiday PC Build list! The only thing I don't like about this card is that they printed "PRO-GAMING" on it in all-caps. I bet this would only cost $100 if it wasn't for "PRO-GAMING". Hello, My motherboard has alc887 i'm using kingston hyperx cloud headset/some cheap earbuds. I find volume on my pc lacking with both headset and earbuds compared to my android and cheap mp3 player. I have tried using some cheap no name usb dac on my pc, volume was much higher but there was almost no bass, overall quality was worse. Quality on alc887 if good enough for me, just need more volume, have tried almost everything options wise, reinstalled realtek drivers etc.. Need help deciding if i need usb amp/dac or soundcard. Limited hardware in my country and i'm on a budget. Wouldn't want to pay more than 50eur, but if you think it's worth it, then what can i say. If you had to choose between: sound cards: XONAR DGX(ASM) 34eur XONAR_AE 7.1 53eur XONAR DSX 54eur Sound Blaster Audigy Rx 56eur dac: Sandberg USB Sound Box 33eur Creative X-Fi Pro 48eur ASUS Xonar U5 59eur Creative Sound Blaster E1 35eur Sorry if my questions is stupid, i just don't know much about audio. Thanks for your time in advance.

I've got an old set of speakers that I want to connect to my PC. They use 5 way binding posts so clearly I can't just plug them in. Is there a sound card that will let me use them or do I have to use a receiver? If I have to use a receiver is it possible to find one that goes in a 5.25" drive bay? The speakers in question are KEF HTS 2001.3 Satellites. Thanks in advance!

Hello So I have built a pc about a year or so ago with help from this community but I am not the most informed person when it comes to technology. It seems as though the pc I have built has come across some issues. There is a pop up thats called realtek hd audio manager and it keeps coming up every now and then, when it does come up on the bottom right there is a notification that I have plugged something in and seconds later I have unplugged it, I am also unable to get any sound to play through my monitor. I have no idea what the issue is so any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Would my headphones still be 7.1? Sorry for my bad english, thanks in advance!

I have the Sound Blaster Z sound card and would like to plug headphones and a stand alone microphone into the sound card itself. Can anyone point me to where I can find a execellent headphones and a standalone microphone that are 3.5mm. The internet recommends the blue yeti microphones, but those are USB. I want to utilize my new soundcard, so it must be a 3.5mm headphone and the standalone microphone. Thanks

I just got my modmic today and I've been excited to use its qualitiies. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a LOT of static noise in recordings, even when the mic is plugged directly into the SoundBlaster Z soundcard in the back of the PC. Usually the fix for static is to have an alternate soundcard to your motherboard, but it does not seem to be working for me! I have none of the clearvoice settings in SB studio on, and the mic is at 100% level with 10% boost, 0% boost is too quiet to hear, but still has static! Any help/advice?

Hello, I am a sound noob in terms of hardware other than gaming headsets. I want to amp it up and have better audio for music and gaming. I was wondering what I should look for? An external DAC or an internal card or something else. I have a budget of ~$200 less is preferred. I was looking at ASUS and Creative Sound as potential choices for example: Sound BlasterX G5 Sound Blaster Zx Sound BlasterX AE-5 STRIX RAID PRO I am planning to pair this with a Logitech G433 as my gaming headset and am looking for a decent set of audiophile head phones and have no budget for this yet but suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I've tried everything I could think of in terms of troubleshooting but have concluded it must be hardware related. The audio out on the back of the motherboard are completely dead and don't register anything whatsoever the front jacks manage to register when I plug something in but there's no sound out at all. I'm currently using the throughput on my monitor to pass the sound out to speakers, which, on full volume, is only just loud enough to fill the room. The speakers also have an audio jack which I use the pass the sound through again to my headphones but there is a clear audible hiss produced by having to have the sound up full. I'm on a budget and use HD 558's, should I bother getting a sound card or just one of the usb -> audio out adaptor type things?

Hey guys, I ordered the Hyper X cloud 2 headset just yesterday and have watched some videos on microphone quality. basically, from what I gather the USB DAC it comes with is bad. On my desktop, I have a Sound Blaster Z Sound card. My question is, the headset comes in a single audio cable that has both microphone and headphones in one. If I plug the cable into just the microphone port on my sound card will it work both as headphones and mic? Or is there some splitter cable that splits it into two so I can use the headphone amp port as well for output. I know I can potentially get way better quality sound with my sound card, but I don't know exactly how I can go about doing this with a single cable. Thanks, I would appreciate any input I could get.

Hello there. I am gonna ask something silly but I'm really bad at these things... So I found my old 5.1 speakers - Logitech G51 - and I want to use them in my PC on my motherboard. My motherboard is Asus B350 Prime Plus. The problem is that it only has 3 audio outputs in the back which are not enough. Do I need a 5.1 sound card or is there another way to make it work? Thank you

So I have an Asus Strix Raid Dlx or something along those lines, and when I switch to my TV I just use hdmi for audio so sound card isn't getting used, and don't feel like running wires from my TV speakers to back of computer. Is there a way to use my sound card as audio processor and it send it back through the GPU? I imagine not, but figured I'd ask anyway, I hate letting my sound card go to waste while using TV. Thanks in advance for any answers.

What is the sound card with the lowest objective latency over DirectSound? For reference, Realtek onboard audio and HDMI passthrough (on my hardware, at least) have around 30ms of latency, the Audigy Rx has around 45ms latency, and the STX II has 70ms latency. This low latency sound card I am looking for doesn't have to have any impressive specs like high SNR, EMI shielding, 600Ω headphone amp, 7.1 surround sound, ASIO, or 192/24 audio, but those things would be nice to have. All I want it to have is lower than 30ms of latency; the closer to 10ms latency, the better. Mind you, I am only looking for impressive numbers over DirectSound, not ASIO or WASAPI. Most, if not all, sound cards can achieve ultralow latency over ASIO, but there are no [rhythm] games that use ASIO that I know of. *cough* osu! *cough* This unicorn sound card or audio interface can be PCIe or USB, but not PCI, as modern motherboards don't have support for the antiquated PCI slot. Time to go from X99 to X79, amirite? Though, if you do find a low latency solution that is only available on PCI, I'll take it. Just say it won't work on my computer so I won't get too excited. TL;DR: Lowest latency sound card over DirectSound, less than 30ms.
