So I've been waiting for Nils to come back from the dead to buy some sleeving from MDPC, but I'm getting impatient and I'm just looking for the best I can get right now. I don't want para cord sleeving, just the "shiny" stiffer sleeving. I've heard MainframeCustoms is really good, so anyone with experience who can tell me if they are the place I should be looking at?

Where can i get the required stuff for the cabling and sleeving in Australia? I've had a look around and cant find anything except the premade ones on pccasegear.

Image Above Provided by: LittleCarrot For the New Layout of the Modding FAQ click Here. Hey everyone so after some time I decided to finally create this FAQ for the modding section of the forums with some encouragement from Scheer on the Forums. This will basically go over some of the most common mods, contain reference materials for wiring, painting, components, and templates, with detailed instructions for all the mods. Hope you all find it useful and enjoy! Table of Contents General Wiring Terminal Types PSU Pinouts and Diagrams Sleeving Powering RGB LED's Wiring up LED Strips 5V or 7V Molex Mod Modding Templates and Dimensions Materials Tools(Cutting) Window Mod PSU Shrouds Vinyl Wrap and Decals Painting General Painting Plasti-Dip Motherboard and RAM Painting PSU Painting GPU Painting Reviews/Information on Modding Supplies or Components This is an informal section where different things regarding modding or reviews will be added periodically. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/407754-modding-faq-common-mods/?p=5493607 Review of Addon Custom's LED's EL Lighting If there is anything you want to see added, or contribute let me know by either posting below or messaging me I'm always open to new ideas. General Wiring: Terminal Types This is a general overview of all the terminals one may encounter inside their PC when sleeving or making new cables. PSU Pinouts and Diagrams PSU pinouts are mainly used for custom sleeving and this includes the diagrams of all the connectors. Sleeving Image Provided by: Lutro0customs Sleeving is a very popular option for customizing a system to match a certain color scheme or look. This will cover paracord and PET(plastic) sleeving and both heatshrink and heatshrinkless style. Powering RGB LED's RGB LED strips will require a controller to cycle through the different colors and modes and to power that requires a special adapter. Wiring up LED Strips For LED strips there are multiple ways of wiring them for operation, one using by soldering and another with LED crimp connections. 5V or 7V Molex Mod Image Provided by: Lutro0customs This is a method of manually undervolting fans that are directly power to the PSU to run quieter without low noise adapters. Modding: For a bunch of great modding guides and ideas, check out MNPCTech.com: http://mnpctech.com/case-mod-tutorials.html Templates & Dimensions Image Provided by: MNPCTech.com This will include many templates and measurements of motherboards, fan cut-outs and a variety of other diagrams. Materials For creating new panels, mounting plates, covers, or even entire cases many different materials can be used and each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Cutting Tools Tool selection for projects depend on the job and situation where cut quality speed and precision are all important factors. Window Mod Image Provided by: MNPCTech.com This will cover the procedures of cutting a window in a case and the details when refinishing and installing in the new window material. PSU Shrouds To create your own PSU shroud it will require measuring your specific case for cuts and sizing since it can vary between cases, the shroud itself can be made with a variety of materials from metals to plastics. Vinyl Wrap and Decals Vinyl wrap is a great way to change the look of cases and parts to color coordinate a system or add a new look with custom designed decals, they come in a variety of colors and finishes with some evening being mirror finished metals, to brushed aluminums. Painting: General Painting This will go over the main topics and techniques mainly for spray painting plastic and metals including clear coat finishing, and touch on brush painting. Plasti-Dip The spray we all love to use, as of recently it’s probably the most common modding product used for re-coloring. In general this will go over the properties of plasti-dip and some of the good and bad. Motherboard and RAM Painting Re-coloring heatsinks or heat spreaders to color co-ordinate builds are common practice and can be done fairly easily with spray paints or coatings with little impact to heat dissipation. PSU Painting Image Provided by: Linus Painting a PSU is possible but does require some understanding in wiring and comes with a certain risk when opening a PSU. GPU Painting Image Provided by: Rumikarimu This is a fairly general guide on GPU painting and will focus on painting accents or shrouds where it will not have an impact on cooling performance.

Painting Forewarning: I'm aware this is quite a large post so I've tried to make the layout as easy to read and concise as possible (it's also my first ever post/thread so go easy on me ) Okay so I've been wanting to colour match my PC and accessories now for a while, luckily a few of the items are already colour matched and look amazing but there is quite a few bits that look very out of place. A few things that don't really need it may also get a make over . The overall theme that I'm going for is black with blue accents. I'm planning on using Plasti Dip Blaze Blue as the colour difference between the LED light seems negligible (standard blue is also an option). Standard Black for the bits that require it. Items that are already in line with the theme include; Case: Thermaltake A31, has blue accents and also has a 120mm blue LED exhaust fan. Keyboard: Ducky DK9008 Shine 3 (Cherry Red MX Switches), blue LED. Bits that definitely need work; Is black and yellow themed which looks extremely ugly in contrast to everything else. This is probably one of the hardest items to paint IMO as both of the bits I'm looking at colour matching is extremely small and detailed. The mouse wheel (I guess I'll have to take the mout and the Zowie logo (although I may just paint the whole surface black). I may also do the bottom depending on how thick Plasti Dip goes on (its feet are fairly thin and I don't want to compromise the integrity of the smooth feeling, but damn its ugly) Motherboard: Asus Z87M-Plus Is also black and yellow themed (ughh how did I somehow manage pick this colour theme twice....). Wanting to get rid of all the yellow parts so the north/south bridges, SATA slots x6. One of the main problems I see is my wanting to paint the yellow RAM slots (luckily two of the four are already black) as well as the 3 yellow PCI-E slots, I'm not sure if these cant actually be painted but I really, really, really.....want to get rid of the yellow. I'm also considering doing the whole IO shield but I'm still tossing this up. RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident-X 1600Mhz (8GBx2) These were originally the reason why I wanted to get painting, the gaudy red mixed with the yellow clashed a lot against the blue. I know the fins should be fairly easy to do. I'm just not sure what I'm going to do about the sticker along the side of the sticks, I may end up just removing it and painting it black (i f its not already underneath) or possibly do both sticks entirely blue. Not so important bits; Fairly happy with how this looks (partly because its upside down orientation means you cant see much of it anyway) but considering taking the metal shroud that encases the 3 fans off and painting blue. Monitor #2: DELL SE197FP Wanting to get the bezel to be the same matte black finish the the monitor on the right (BenQ XL2411Z) and obviously the stand. I'm not sure if it'll be possible to do the menu, positive/negative and power button but that doesn't bother me so much. The only worry I have is getting around the dell logo (I don't necessarily want to compromise that). I'm not really sure how to tape off something that small for example inside the 'D' and the 'E'. Sleeving/Cable Management My PSU (Corsair GS600) is obviously non-modular so is sleeving still an option? I would want to eventually sleeve all the cables from the PSU blue aswell as the few SATA cables I have (can SATA cables be sleeved?). Opinions on what brand (ease of use/quality) etc would be welcome. Also I had to get a plain white/semi see-through molex adapter because the 8 pin connecter to the GPU couldn't reach as is, so I guess I'll need to get a custom one either blue or black to match the rest (most probably black). My cable management seems fairly tangled and messy, I had to try and get every last little centimeter out of the cables just to get things connected. As you can see with the 8 pin CPU cable, I had to route it under the gap between the motherboard and GPU because I had no chance getting it up and around the back and then the impossible angle to actually get it in the socket). Do I need to get cable extensions or something? Here's a picture of the internal's: Liquid Cooling I'm hoping to one day very soon, get a Corsair Hydro H105 and replace the two SP120L's for two SP120 Blue LED's to help complete the look as well as adding four AF120 Quiet Edition Blue LED's, replacing the existing case's stock exhast and intake fans and supplementing another intake at the front and another exhaust at the bottom. Corsair Hydro H105: SP120 Blue LED's: AF120 Quiet Edition Blue LED's: My one question regarding the H105 is I have no idea on the power draw of the cooler, can my Corsair GS600 take that along with the rest of my system? System Specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40Ghz GPU: NVIDIA Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 OC Edition 2GB Sound Card: ASUS Xonar Essence STX RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident-X 1600Mhz (8GBx2) Monitors: BenQ XL2411Z & DELL SE197FP Motherboard: Asus Z87M-Plus HDD's: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB & 2TB Seagate Barracuda Keyboard: Ducky DK9008 Shine 3 (Cherry Red MX Switch) Blue LED Headphones: ATH-AD700X Open Air with ZM-MIC 1 Mouse: Zowie FK And that's about it! Phew that took me an hour or so to write up Thanks for taking the time to read (if you did, totally waiting for tldr; haha) Cheers, BabieZ!

As of right this minute I just removed my first PCIE pin from my ax1200i psu for a new build that I planning on completing this weekend. I will be sleeving the 24 pin and cpu pin cables with 550 paracord really want to finish all the cables tonight. My question is whether the cables need to go into the same connector slot that they came out of? When you look at the face of a pcie connector there are filled and empty slots in the connector. I will be putting the pins in the same "filled" spots but my question is regarding the actual cables and whether they need to be in exact same spot as stock. As in can a filled space in the connector can be filled with any of the other cables I'm sorry if my question is hard to understand but it's difficult wording it correctly.

Title kind of speaks for itself. First, I'm curious if someone can confirm that. Second, what other companies offer high quality custom sleeving? Not looking for the typical corsair or bitfenix cables, but ones where you can customize exactly what you want. Appreciate the input!

I have bought the Be Quiet! L7 530w power supply for my mITX build and I just find that the cables are too ugly and I am wondering, does anyone know how much sleeving I'd have to purchase. I think that 100m is way too much and I'd pay far too much to get it. I really have to order it in once due I live in Belgium and the shipping is quite high for single items :/ Thanks in advance Pruxis

Well, it has to be modular. About 750W (±50W). I want to go for heatshrinkless sleeving, but I am open to switch to heatshrink sleeving if it helps somehow. I've seen Corsairs 24pin cables, and they look very hard to sleeve, because it is split up somehow, and there are 2 cables going into one pin on the motherboard side. Is there anything better than that? I've looked into EVGA powersupplies but they seem to have a similar problem. Hope you can help me somehow

Questions regarding custom length PSU cables and sleeving.
Shaqalac posted a topic in Cases and Mods
Hi LTT. I'm about to some custom heatshrinkless sleeving for my main rig and NAS but I do have some questions before I start to order. I'm not sure whether you need this information or not but my main rig has the Corsair TX650V2 and my NAS has the SilverStone ST45SF-G. I'll most likely order from MDPC as I've only heard good about them but I've also been looking at Lutro0 Customs, which raised even more questions. The sleeve will be ordered from MDPC, my questions are really more about the wires and tools. Obviously the Corsair PSU is a non-modular PSU, so do I want to make custom length cables longer than the stock cables I'll have to solder some new cables to the PSU itself. MDPC doesn't sell any wire so I headed straight for Lutro0 to see what he has and he has a few options. Which is the one to get for my Corsair and SilverStone PSU? As far as I can see from the 6-pin PCI-E connector from the SilveStone PSU it uses 18AWG cables. Now that the wire type is sorted out I need a tool to crimp the contacts on. Will the MDPC Crimping-tool do the job no matter what wire type I end up buying, or should I order a die replacement with the wires? I tried to calculate how much sleeving I'd need for the whole SilverStone job. Shopping cart for NAS: 1x Heatshrink SATA - ANTHRACITE 3,19 Euro 1x Pin-Remover by MOLEX - The Original 16,54 Euro 2x Sleeve SMALL - BLACK 14,28 Euro 1x MDPC Crimping-Tool - 6th Anniversary 39,15 Euro TL;DR: Questions about wires and cables. What wire type should I use for my Corsair and SilverStone PSU? http://lutro0-customs.com/collections/custom-wire Depending on the choice of wire, do I need a die replacement or is the MDPC Crimping-tool good enough as it is. Cheers Shaqalac. -

I will be running the optical SPDIF from theM/B to a Denon AVR-4308. The rig will mainly be used for watching movies, so it does not require the best of the best with regards to audio. If sound quality does indeed prove to be lacking (my dad is quite the audiophile, so he will surely inform me of that), I can always add it later, using a flexible PCI-E riser card (see below for why that would be necessary). However, since seven HDD's take up quite a bit of room, that's not an option. Therefore, I will be replacing the entire back side of the case with a custom panel modded to fit the radiator (next to the back I/O panel). Since I won't need any add-on cards, besides possibly an audio card (see above), this should work nicely. Pictures As with HELIOS, I will be hosting the pics on my server, hyperlinking each picture in my posts to its full resolution version. To get a custom resolution, for whichever reason, use: http://www.alpenwasser.net/images/w000/h000/imagename.extensionWhere w000 and h000 are the desired width and height in pixels (you do need the preceeding "h"and/or "w" though). It's sufficient to use one of the two. If you use both, the image will be resized proportionally and the pixel values given will be treated as maxima.

Hello everyone, I've been asked a few times how I did the lacing for my current builds (here and here), and I said I'd make a tutorial on that. Well, here it is. Since I'm still a complete noob when it comes to video processing I'm open for feedback, especially when it comes to sound quality. I'm using headphones and don't have any speakers available at the moment, and the sound seems ok, if a bit on the low side. But since audio experiences can greatly vary for different people feel free to say so and I can try to fiddle around with it or maybe even re-record it and then reprocess that. For those who are not familiar with this (such as myself a few months ago): Cable lacing was used to arrange cables and wires before the advent of zip ties and velcro ties. If you work in the telecom industry you might have learned this on the job. Nowadays it's a lot less common due to being quite expensive, although it is still used in some applications. One of them is spaceflight. Cables on spacecraft are usually tidied up by lacing them. The technique I'm using at the moment is not something a professional would use (at least I don't think so), but an amalgam of different stuff I've found around, looked at and tried out. It gives me the look I want and does its job while at the same time not taking up an insane amount of time (unless you do it with Nylon cord ;)). Anyway: Tutorial:

Hi, I have Paracord sleeving coming in the mail, and in anticipation, I prepared my cables for sleeving (i.e. removed the oem sleeving) and I came across a little hiccup in my plan to sleeve my SATA power cables. I have no Idea how I can sleeve the wires without interfering with the in-line connectors whilst maintaining the heatshrinkless look. Has anybody who is reading this, successfully achieved this goal? If so, how do I do it? I've already searched the web, and came up with nothing as of yet. I will keep on looking though. Thanks in advance!

Maxfinder sells sleeving extensions that match my color preferences down to the tee, but I've never heard of them and they don't sell anywhere else outside of FrozenCPU.. Anyone have them before? They are more expensive than other name brands like Bitfenix and Nzxt cables. I'm looking to buy sleeves for my 24pin, 2 6-pin GPU slots, and my CPU power. Each extension is 25cm, and the total will be $65 Any reason I shouldn't go for sleeving? Or is there a better place to look at sleeving than FrozenCPU? Here's a link to the Cables I'm thinking of getting, 6pin (x2) 25cm 12.99 24-pin 25cm 19.99 8-pin 25cm 12.99 Will this cause an uncontrollable rats nest in an h440? Anything you guys recommend will go better with my Blue and Black h440?

Hi guys, I don't know much about cable sleeving but I would like to sleeve my pc's cables. I wanted to know if it was possible to make custom sleeving on non-modular PSU. I currently have a Corsair TX750 (http://images.hardwarecanucks.com/image/skymtl/PSU_review/TX750/CORSAIR-9.jpg) and I was not really planning on changing it. Also I wanted to know what are good starting points to know more about custom sleeving (where to buy stuff and tutorials). Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, [insert Title] I ask this because I am curious as I think it would look pretty cool. Although, I figure a possible reason people would not want to do it is so that when the wires bend, the heatshrink doesn't tear or crease, or wtv. Just curious. Thanks, Vitalius

I was wondering about sleeving a power supply. My understanding about making custom cables is that for an extension you do not need to cross wires, you just need to "extend" from point a on the power supply's 24 pin connector to point a on the extension's connector. While on the other hand if i am making a completely custom set of cables for a power supply I may have to cross cables, solder cables and ect. I was also wondering if all power supplies have different pinouts so that you can not make a cable that fits all power supplies. Any and all help about making custom cables and wiring would be great. My main concern is not the actual sleeving but instead the wiring.

So I have just recently purchased a corsair GS600 power supply and I have now decided that I want to go and individually sleeve all of the cables. I intend to individually sleeve all of the cables with red tightly braided sleeving as I'm going for a red and black theme. My motherboard is black ( gigabyte z87-hd3) and my ram ( corsair vengeance lp) is also black and I intend on purchasing some red lighting for my case which is a Corsair vengeance C70 in gunmetal black. To top it all off I will buy a GPU using the Direct cuII cooler from asus since it matches the colour scheme. Here is the problem though: After getting measurements of all of the cables I calculated that I would need to order 43 meters of sleeving which to me seems just a tad excessive. Could some one please tell me if I'm doing my calculations wrong? The lengths of the cables are as follows:-24 pin atx = 55 cm - 1x8pin CPU power = 65cm - 2x 6+2 pin pci-e power = 65 cm each - 2x sata cables with 3 connectors per cable = 61cm (each cable consists of 5 wires) - 2x molex cables with 4 connectors per cable = 75 cm (each cable consisting of 4 wires) Also any tips on doing sleeving is welcome, thank you This is my first brand new pc build but I have made pcs's numerous times before using 2nd hand parts for my father and sister as "Internet boxes", I've never made a fully fledged gaming machine before but I'm willing to go all out to make this something I can look at and be proud knowing that it is MY custom pc.

I am wondering how I can tell if a power supply is good to make custom sleeved cables for. I know very little, but what I do know is that you want there to be no/as few double cables as possible. I was wondering if there are any power supplies by Seasonic that are good to do cables for. I do not know if power supplies exist where it is just one cable per pin for the entire 24 pin connector. I do not know much about how this all works so please give me some references about pinning and anything you think is helpful about power supplies (even if it about electrical more than sleeving). I was looking at getting this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151120 Plus I have a AX850 power supply in one of my current builds that I want to sleeve. Last thing, I would like to know more about the pins and all of the connections to do with the electrical side of the unit, so any references or places to start learning would be cool.

Hey guys, I've just finished sleeving my first ever cable. I was hoping that you could tell me how you think I did and what I can improve on. I used a heatshrinkless paracord method that I learned from Lutro0 customs. The quality of the pictures isn't brilliant as my camera is pretty bad, but I did the best that I could. EDIT: Here's the video for it.

Hey guys. I have finally received the sleeving from my sponsor Axon Modding (www.axonmodding.com). He sent over his new MX-2 sleeving and as fake as this might sound, it is the easiest sleeving I have ever worked with. Here is a picture of my first modular cable that I sleeved yesterday. I think it looks good for what it is but I have a bit of a dilemma. What can I use to keep the cables together? I've seen people sew them together or zip tie them. Is there another good looking way? This is the 6-pin connector going into my GPU. I think it looks pretty damn good This is the connector that goes into the PSU's modular interface. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before anyone get's a wrong idea. The sleeving is slightly thicker than what I worked with before but it's an advantage. It makes things a hell of a lot easier and looks great too. I mentioned that it won't fit into the very end of the connector in the comments section but that is due to my connectors being smaller than usual. I hope nobody got the wrong idea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
