Hello. So I need some help choosing the right GPU for working with DAW (Cubase 5 or 6 or 7, Nuendo). It should be fanless (passive), because this system has to be extremely silent. What GPU would be the best? Price doesn't really matter. I was looking at something like ASUS GT640 DirectCU silent. System: Asus Z87-C Intel Core i7-4770 (non-K, because I'm not going to overclock it) Noctua NH-U14S Corsair Vengeance Black 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz Low Profile Seasonic X-650 Fractal Design Define R4 White (without a window) Creamware (aka Sonic Core) Pulsar 1 + Luna 2 bridged with a cable

Hi LTT. I'm the proud owner of an Antec Nine Hundred. I have had it for 5-6 years now and I'm stilling using the stock coolers which is, to be honest, completely load, obnoxious and just worn out. They are powered by molex connectors as well, which doesn't make cable management any easier. There are 4 fans in the case at the moment, 3x 120mm and 1x 200mm fan. I'm only going to replace the 3x 120mm as I'm not going to use the 200mm in my future build. My future build includes a new case and so far I haven't considered any cases where a 200mm fan would fit. What I'm trying to ask is, which fans should I get? I'm thinking static pressure optimized fans is what I should be looking for, as I'm going to use the fans for radiators in the future. Besides from that, Linus often says that airflow optimized fans aren't that much, if any, better for airflow than static pressure optimized fans are. The build I'll make in the future (within the next year hopefully) aesthetics means a lot. I really want to make a beautiful build. So Noctua fans, even though they might be the best out there, is pretty much a no go. Only way I would buy Noctua fans is if I'm able to hide them away in the new build. To make things more difficult I haven't decided what case I want. Probably something with a Scandinavian design, like Fractal Design. Requirements (short version): Fans for airflow now but radiators in the future. Clean looking fans, aesthetics. Prefer no LEDs, will just add strips if I want my case lit up. Must be quiet as well. Hopefully this is enough information to me good answers. If not, please tell me if there's something I should decide or answer to. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I went with the Water cooling sections because I'm going to watercool my build at some point. I've posted this on Reddit as well, so sorry if some of you guys read this twice. So far on Reddit I've mainly been recommended Scythe Gentle Typhoons but I'm trying to get as much info and response as possible. Cheers Shaqalac.

So basicly long story short, my mum got broken into and they took the laptop i've told them many times to get a desktop as they treat it as a desktop, So im doing mini ITX with water cooling (just cpu) no gpu, and the power supply im looking for is one of those just silent ones you know the ones where the fans dont spin up or are compleatly fanless or just really quiet because atm the only fan will probally be the intake through the RAD and mayby(mayby?) an exsaught. So i want a dead silent psu because mine is loud and i hate it so there not having it, minimum psu requirement is arround 250 watts like it takes nothing, but it seems hard to find a silent one or high energy efficenty one with low wattage from pc case gear if you can but anything is helpfull just hard to get because AUS

Hi! I've recently built a desktop, but I didn't include a CPU cooler, so I've used the stock Intel cooling. This bugs me a bit, as it's pretty loud and doesn't have top notch performance. Therefore, I'm looking for a new, silent CPU cooler. I've looked at the Noctua NH-D15 cooler, and it seems to be pretty good. However, I don't really like Noctua's brown and beige colour theme, and it completely clashes with my black and white NZXT H440. I've also looked a bit at some water cooling solutions too, like the NZXT Kraken series. They seem nice too, and have a vastly better look in my opinion, at least with my case. However, I've not been able to find much info on how silent they are. My motherboard is an ATX-sized Asus Z87-PRO and my RAM is a couple of relatively low Kingston DDR3 HyperX Beast sticks, so I do have a decent amount of space. So, what would you guys suggest for silent, not too expensive, high performance and good looking CPU cooling solutions?

Hello Guys! I'm thinking of upgrading my rig for silence. The components are already taken care of but I don't know what's the best silent case that you can get. Any recommendations and advice is appreciated. Note: I'm from the Philippines and not all cases are available here.

Hi guys, I´m curious to know what kind of switches does the Razer Blackwidow Evil Geniuses Edition uses, because in the product description it doesnt say, and since razer is starting to use kaihl (I dont know how to write it) switches I dont want to buy a keyboard that costs $169 Canadain dolars that has kaihl switches, but I like the look of it.

Let's go straight to the point. What's the best silent optimized mid tower that you can suggest? I prefer a windowed one but if there's a case that is better I'll choose it. Currently, I'm thinking of the Bitfenix Ghost(push-pull watercool at top and hotswap/storage at the front) over the Define R4. I really want a case that is silent optimized but also airflow/watercool friendly.

I have been planning to do a Hadron Air build for a while now and have decided to implement these parts: i5 4670k MSI Twin Froz GTX 770 8 GB Patriot Ram ASUS Z97i-PLUS Samsung 840 EVO 128 gb SSD Hadron Air I need help deciding between these two options and please choose not solely based on performance(obviously Noctua has better cooling) but also if the sacrifice of aesthetics is worth the performance. For example, I would only choose the Noctua option over the others if it allows for a significant temperature reduction and noticeable difference in noise (one of the things I hated most about my last build was the noise). Noctua NH-U9B SE2 w/ stock Hadron Air exhaust fans replaced with Noctua NF-S12B (Example build:http://pcpartpicker.com/b/qWNG3C) - If I end up going with Noctua, what lighting (RGB led strip, cold cathodes, etc.) should I use to make the build more bearable/pleasing-to-the-eyes and should I flip the Noctua NF-S12B's to be intake fans for positive pressure within the case to minimize dust? Cooler Master Gemin II S524 w/ Corsair AF/SP 120 Fans - *Although not the best cooler, the large design of the heatsink fan covers up much of the space of the motherboard and hides many cables as shown here:http://pcpartpicker.com/b/qVMp99 (My preferred pick for aesthetics) EVGA mITX Cooler (nearly the same price as Noctua NH-U9B SE2) w/ Red LED Corsair AF 120 Fans - *As can be seen here: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-awQalCSz4D0/U48M6oWzFdI/AAAAAAAAO08/xd_iD6ndTP8/w1364-h910-no/2.png, this build would look stunning but at nearly the same price as the Noctua set, I am concerned that I may be giving up on a lot of performance (am I?) Notes: I've been having a lot of trouble deciding between these sets, so I would like to learn from you guys's suggestions and experiences. If you want to suggest a certain cooler, fans, or lighting configuration then I would love to hear it! P.S. I'm not saying that the EVGA mITX Cooler is poor in performance as it is used in many Hadron Air builds, but I am interested in knowing if I would be able to benefit noticeably by choosing the less-pretty-in-looks Noctua

I use some old fabric my mom used when sewing that she no longer needed and covered the hard drive bay and sides of the case (minus ventilation holes). What sort of stuff do you do to make it as quiet as possible (besides a quiet CPU cooler or case fans etc)?

SO I have a few ground rules to cover. It's my Dad's computer and he kinda told me what he wants but there's other things I want to add as well. It needs to be decently quiet. I covered this in the build with the fans (120mm, feel free to make them bigger or smaller). The case I need some help with. It needs to be a Micro ATX case. Any size should do but it's into a desk cabinet and I know an ATX case won't fit in there too well. Case doesn't require USB 3.0 (he hardly uses it anyway). He wants to use this computer for 6 years. He doesn't play games so if a GPU is in order, it'll have to be fairly cheap. You can include this as well. The big thing though, he NEVER cleans it out. I'd so it for him but it's his computer and he just says "oh I'll do it later" whenever I ask him if he's cleaned it within the last year, AKA, it needs to be a fairly dust-proof case. Can't look super flashy. Would like a quiet PSU. $600-ish budget Here's the basic requirements settled: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6JRfxr PSU and Case please. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I'm planning a build to be done by late July hopefully. I just wanted to get some advice and tips and recommendations before I purchase everything since this will be my first build ever! I shall be naming her ALiCE (A... Liquid Cooled E... - feel free to help me fill in the blanks). So just a few ideas as to what I am going for: Budget is about $4000 AUD but can stretch up to $5000. My aim for this system is to build a really quiet but also OCed machine for gaming at max settings 60 fps and the occasional 3D render and sound engineering. It will be custom watercooled and have an orange and blue theme. Oh and also, it should be futureproof. I only plan on running one monitor ever at 1920x1200 minimum (or higher if someone can suggest a suitable resolution. 4k is out of the picture sadly.) In terms of peripherals I won't be needing a mouse or keyboard, but as stated above, I am looking for a suitable monitor. I plan on using Windows 8. This is the parts list I've come up with so far, any suggestions or criticisms welcome as it's really important I get everything right before I fork over all my savings haha! I just want to point out that I am waiting for the 4790k (so the 4770k is a placeholder at the moment) and the AX1200i is so that I have headroom to add another 780ti in about a years time.

Hello to you, people from the Linustechtips forums! I've just finished high school (yay!). For school I've used Dropbox a lot, but the 50GB I got via Samsung is expiring this summer. At the moment I am using over 10GB already, with more to come at university, so I won't have enough space any more (and I can't remove any files, because I use everything). That's why I'm looking for an alternative. This will probably be a DIY Homeserver/NAS, or maybe a NAS from Synology or something like that. Features There are some features for the homeserver I want it to be able to have and a few that would be nice, but not necessary. The features that are quite important are: Fileserver: I want my files to be available almost everywhere (for example at home, at university), secured of course. I also want to have access to Dropbox, Google Drive etc. to move some files to and from the server and those services (I want it on Dropbox for a school project for example; to share a folder with the whole group). Download client: I don't need to explain this a lot I think. I want it to download some torrents and things like NZB files. Playing/streaming media: I'm not completely sure about this yet. With playing media, I am talking about a real HTPC use. The streaming will be from te server to the TV downstairs and maybe a Chromecast in the future. "Headset controller": I have a wireless Corsair Vengeance 2000 headset, and I would like to use it on my PS4/Xbox 360/TV. To do that I think that I could use the audio imput port on the motherboard of the server to pass through the audio to the USB dongle of the headset. Here is my awesome explanation picture : http://bluefiregaming.eu/tweakers/img/homeserverHeadset.png There a some things that would be nice to have, but not necessary: Random servers: Think of Mumble and stuff like that. Steam Client: for the use of Steam In-Home Streaming. I won't use it for now, but maybe when I get to live out on the university terrain. Budget & Preferences I have a budget of around €300 to €400 (which is about $400 to $500). The prices need to be the prices in the Netherlands (where I live, kind of obvious ). Currently, I already have a keyboard, mouse and monitor. Also, I have a small (320GB) HDD that I could maybe use. I would like to build the system in a Cooler Master HAF Stacker 915R or Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced. If a Micro-ATX system would be better, that is possible too. For some kind of reason I would like an Intel CPU, but if and AMD one would be better for the price, that's fine too. I'm not too familiar with the naming and specs of the AMD CPU's, so that's why. Requirements For the system I have a few requirements: "Future-Proof"/Upgradable: I would like the system to be future-proof (if possible of course). I don't want to keep upgrading it every year or have to pay a lot of money to do that. I know hardware isn't going to last forever, but I just want it to last a while before I have to rebuild it or upgrade it. Lasting for about 5 years would be ideal. Sound: It needs to be really quiet! I am putting the system in my room (where I sleep and stuff ), maybe in the living room, and since I don't want to go to bed with humming noises it needs to be quiet. I've got some ideas for the fans, but if you guys have suggestions give it to me! Energy Usage: Obvious one. It is going to be on 24/7, at least that's the plan, so it has be nice for the energy bills. Stability: Another obvious one, doesn't need any explanation I guess. Form-Factor: Not really a requirement or demand, more of a thing I would like. I would like it to be Mini-ITX, just so I don't need to buy another case, but Micro-ATX is fine too if that's much better. Setup Idea This is the setup I am currently thinking of: Intel Pentium G3420 (dual core 3,2GHz) / Intel Pentium G3220 (dual core 3,0GHz) ASRock B85M-ITX WD Green WD20EZRX - 2TB Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B Crucial CT51264BA160BJ (1x4GB 1600MHz) / Corsair CMV4GX3M1A1333C9 (1x4GB 1333MHz) Seasonic G-Series 360Watt (80plus gold) What's your guys' opinion on this setup. I think I will be running either Windows Home Server 2011, Ubuntu Server or something like FreeNAS on it. Not sure about that one. Questions I of course need to know some stuff before I choose, so here is a list of some thing I would like to know: Of course, is the setup any good? Any tips or advice on it? Would Mini-ITX or Micro-ATX better? CPU: Intel or AMD? Which one? What would be a good setup regarding the HDD's? Since I'll be putting quite important information/files on there I need them to be "safe". What OS should I use? Finally: for my demands and wanted features, would a NAS or DIY Homeserver be better? Well, that would be the end of my long talk about this system. I hope you guys can and would like to help me out with this. I would be really thankfull!

Hi everyone, looking into making a making a new build Brand new build Have peripherals and a windows 10 Home Live in EU and the budget is up to 1.5k without GPU for the tower Single monitor, gaming oriented at 1440@120hz Aim Gaming - aim for a cinematic experience in latest AAA titles & 120fps@1440 in FPS games Productivity- I will run a linux distro and will do some CPU, RAM and Storage/IO intensive tasks Needs My default computer is a macbook for life and work stuff. I also have a high capacity NAS for media / backup stuff. Now I need a capable machine for gaming and productivity (compiling software). CPU: Will go for the latest high end Ryzen for occasional multi core productivity works GPU: No idea what do here ATM Any good price to performance charts for the latest cards? Storage: Will need quite a lot of fast storage. At least 300GB for Linux and the some for windows RAM: I need 16GB, or even better 32GB for my productivity stuff. But wouldn’t hurt it to be fast enough for memory. Do I need faster than 3200? Is quad channel a good idea for Ryzen or waste of money? Info: don’t like RGB lights, prefer components without that fancy stuff don’t want a case window don’t want to play with water cooling or AIO prefer a silent PC, so I would want to go all Noctua don’t want to do any overclocking prefer a modular power supply My biggest concerns are: Mobo - what chipset should I get? Do I need a X570 chipset? BIOS upgrade is not a problem GPU - I think I would like some of that raytracing, so go nvidia rtx I guess? Storage - I would like some good storage Case - should be silent, provide good cooling options and has to be white / cream / beige.

So this is it, i've reduced all my potential choices to those three cases, they all are around 100$ CAD and i like their sober and simple look. I would like you to give me your opinions about them, if you have one of them, or even better, if you have or had 2 or all of them, this way i can really know what i'm about to buy. I think some people say the define S fans are better, quieter and the case have better airflow. What about the side windows? i would prefer a metal side to a cheap window that scratches easily as i might take my pc with me relatively often. Also, on the phanteks eclipse, i see different versions like Silent window or just window, what does silent add? what does it mean? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352054&cm_re=define_s-_-11-352-054-_-Product http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854027 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854028 also if you have a really kickass suggestion, go ahead ;P

Hallo everybody, First of all im sorry for all my mispells and mistakes, english isn't my mothertongue. Actually Im German. I already mentioned it another thread that I was thinking about upgrading my old amd set up into a new Intel one. This thread helped me already a lot but there are still some questions I have when it comes to some peripherals. So my main use for a Computer is probably Gaming. I mainly play League of Legends, Payday 2 and future games like GTA V. I also want to record my LoL games for practice and I want to do streaming with this new machine. The new Computer should run GTA V and The Witcher 3 in at least High, better Ultra Settings. (If this is possible for the pricing) so this are my specs: CPUAMD FX 8320 MotherboardMSI 970A-G43 RAM1x 8GB G.Skill 1.333 GPUAMD Radeon R7850 Core Edition CaseCMStorm Scout 2 Advanced Storage120 GB SSD Kingston / 1TB 3,5" WD PSUATX TP-600W Display(s)2 Acer 24" LED Full HD CoolingARCTIC Freezer 13 KeyboardLogitech G710+ MouseLogitech G500s SoundOnboard Operating SystemWindows 7 Home Premium 64Bit My Budet is about 1.000€ - 1100$ but Im happy when I dont have to spend everything so Price per Performance is an important part for me. It can go above 1.000€ - 1100$ if it is worth it. I already made a list of Hardware I considerd: CPUIntel i7 4790K ~ 330€ - 357$ Intel i5 4690K ~ 250€ - 271$ MotherboardMSI Z97 Gaming 3 ~ 125€ - 135$ MSI Z97 Gaming 5 ~ 146€ - 158$ MSI Z97 Gaming 7 ~ 180€ - 195$ ASUS Z97 RoG VII Ranger ~ 160€ - 174$ ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer ~ 131€ - 142$ ASRock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer ~ 140€ - 152$ RAMCorsair Vengance 2x 8gb 1600mhz ~ 123€ - 133$ Corsair Vengance Pro 2x 8gb 1833mhz ~ 137€ - 149$ Hyper X Beast 2x 8gb 2400mhz ~ 145€ - 157$ G.Skill 1x 8gb 1333mhz ~ 70€ - 76$ (I already have 1 so I only need 1) GPUASUS GTX 970 Strix ~ 355€ - 384$ MSI GTX 970 Gaming ~ 370€ - 401$ Zotac ZT-90101-10P GTX 970 ~ 330€ - 357$ PSUCorsair CX 600W ~ 63€ - 68$ Corsair CX 750W ~ 95€ - 103$ Corsair RM 650W ~ 105€ - 114$ BeQuiet CM BQT L8 630W ~ 82€ - 89$ BeQuiet CM BQT L8 730W ~ 94€ - 102$ CoolingCorsair H100i ~ 106€ - 115$ Corsair H110 ~ 121€ - 131$ So yeah there is a lot of things I just dont know and thats why I dont know what I exactly need or what is good for this price. I also dont know how much of power I need to run the System I choose. And which of those are the most quiet ones? Which Processor is better for its price for only gaming, recording and streaming purposes? Are those mainboards worth its price or can I go with a cheaper one? If not which one do you recommend? Is Luquid cooling worth it? Or can I still go with an Air cooling concept? As you probably recognized by now: Im fairly new to this whole thing to build a Computer by my own. TLDR: I Want the best Price-per-performance set up, as quiet as possible I hope you guys can save me

Hi guys so I currently have an XFX pro 550watt psu and its all good about its performance but its way too much noisy for me. especially under load. My warranty doesnt cover the noise nor can I replace it so I am looking into selling it and buying something better. I know most of you will suggest a Seasonic one but they are too expensive here in greece. I would like some recommendations for a relatively cheap, reliable and quiet PSU. Also here is the site where I look for psus. http://www.skroutz.gr/c/30/psu-trofodotika.html Thanks.
