Hello LTT forums! I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I recently acquired a server machine from a friend, who got it god knows where. I opened it up expecting to gut the system just to have something to do. Inside there was 64 GB of RAM (8x8GB), the most I've ever worked with. I looked it up online, and the sell prices for 8GB PC2-5200 RAM sticks were astronomical. At this point, I figured that the system was more powerful than I thought. I lifted the CPU covers (two of them), and under each was an AMD Opteron 8439 SE hex core processor. Once again, these are the largest processors I've ever worked with. I checked the online prices for the processors. Each 8439 was going for over a grand. I checked some other sites. 2.5 and 3 grand, respectively. As much as I'd love to have 3-6 grand, how do I know if it's legit? Can anyone help me evaluate why on earth the prices are so high? http://www.rakuten.com/prod/amd-opteron-hexa-core-8439-se-2-8ghz-processor-upgrade-2-8ghz-4800mhz/212695629.html?listingId=327254235&sclid=pla_google_SynergyDataInc&adid=29963&gclid=CM-M54XymcYCFQeBaQodQjwBXQ http://starmicroinc.net/amd-opteron-8439-se-2-80ghz-6mb-l3-server-oem-cpu-os8439yds6dgn/?gclid=CKG6i_6cmsYCFQipaQode5cC0Q http://www.esaitech.com/amd-os8439yds6dgn-six-core-opteron-8439-se-2-20ghz-2200mhz-socket-1207-cpu.html?pk_campaign=ga-pla&gclid=CISDhKedmsYCFQipaQode5cC0Q http://www.pcconnection.com/product/amd-processor-opteron-6c-8439-se-2.8ghz-6mb-l3-cache-tray/os8439yds6dgn/10100208 Thanks!

Hi, I was looking at Craigslist today and saw a guy was selling a reference gtx 980 for $380 US. I actually talked him down to $350 and bought the card. I already own a gtx 970 but couldn't pass up the deal. I installed it and overclocked it and it works fine. The question I have is the 970 isn't that far behind in some of my benchmarks usually between 5-10 fps. Should I sell the 980 for a profit or sell the 970 for about 300?

so i have given up finding a 2 identical gpu to run in sli. one of the forum members told me he was able to sell his 780 6gb for $550 recently. mine is in near perfect condition and includes the box and drivers. what should i sell it for?

--Originally built back in 2008 with a Dual Core Athlon II X2 and only 3GB RAM. --In 2010 it saw an upgraded motherboard with Quad Core Athlon II X4 CPU. --In 2012 improved to 8GB RAM and I added the SSD. I've taken good care of it considering it used to travel around town as a LAN Gaming PC. When travelling it always went on padded back seats, or foam in the trunk. It gets dusted out at least once a year, and I've spent tons of time cable managing it over the years. Plus, for what it's worth, I've added a USB 3.0 PCI-e card, 3.5" Media Bay Card Reader, and NZXT Hue lighting system. (minor things I paid little for on Ebay) I'm currently working on my new i7-4790K build (there will be a build log to come) but I need to either part this out, or sell it as a unit. What are your guys thoughts on either parting this out, or selling it as a unit? Hello everyone, Simple question, does anyone know of a CMS type website template that allows users to register and sell their items? Basically like how Ebay works. Or if you know of plugins for Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal or Magento that does the above. Thanks!

I have a spare 1tb hard drive with nothing on it but it's been used before and has had stuff on it. All I did was permanently delete everything. What's a good way to wipe the hard drive to be sure it's got nothing on it before I sell it?

Apple's logic. And Honestly their new products are just a waste of time. There are already wearables out there that have everything that Apple claims is new, yes, new to Apple, but not to the wearables world. And then, paying $10,000 USD or more for a smart watch with a pure gold body would take some serious stupidity. Plus, the New macbook that only has one USB port, and that being the USB type C, is absolutely beyond me. And then having to pay an extra $79 ontop of the stupid amount of money you're going to waste on the Macbook itself... Plus the atrocious estimated battery life of the Macbook... Edit: Also, a 12 Inch display, super tiny, like, WTF? Commonly laptops are between 15 and 17 inches, why would the Macbook come in only a 12 inch model? And that 480p camera, I thought they were supposed to be progressing with their cameras, not doing what they did. Also: They 'demonstrated' an app that can be used to open a garage door from far away to let someone into the house, in an instance where they are locked out and nobody is close to home, again, nothing that other phone apps can't be used to do... They also had two people endorse the product, one being a politician, what do you want to be that capitalism had a piece to play in that (I'm assuming they paid both of the notable people that 'endorsed' the product)

Hey guys. I am in desperate need of a new PC. My current rig sports an AMD Phenom ii X4 965, HD 7770 GHZ 1 GB, and 4 GB of RAM. I think it is high-time I build the machine I have been dreaming about (not really, dreaming about PCs would be kinda weird). Anyhoo, I was thinking of selling my PS4 and Wii U. Together, by selling the consoles themselves with all of the games and accessories I have for each, I can make about $1050. That money combined with the money I make at my job, could easily give me my computer and a lot of extra money for the Steam Summer Sale and game releases. What do you guys think? Should I sell or keep my consoles? Part List: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Dtignor/saved/sbxNnQ P.S. I'm 15 so I don't have to pay bills, rent, car payment, ect. P.P.S. Because I know so many of you are going to mention/ask it;Yes I do have money saved for college and I already have a car.

Hi everyone, I have an old AMD build that is being unused and is literally collecting dust. I'm trying to get rid of it and with the few times I've tried to sell it no one really wants to buy it for over 300$. I know it has much more value than that and I want to maximize what I can get out of it. Would it be better selling it as a whole, or part by part? Here's the system setup if anyone is curious. Any input is greatly appreciated!

So I've got a spare Arkham Knight code that I got from the Nvidia promotion that I'm not looking to keep, (surprise huh.) My question to the good fellows of Linus Tech Tips is where do you guys prefer to flip your codes? I know I can't expect too much for Arkham Knight as the game released broken but I'd rather make some type of profit from it rather than just let the code go to waste. So sound off guys, where do you sell your unwanted codes?

Hello, i am about to move to college, and my PC setup is quite large, I'm afraid i cant take it with me. I am looking to sell it and possibly get a new gaming laptop. However, i don't know how to price a slightly used PC. I will list the parts below, any help from people who have experience selling used parts, please give me any advice you think of, including how/where to sell it. Also, if you arnt an expert on selling used parts, please comment on how much you think you would pay for it, if you were looking to buy a used PC. Thank you! PARTS: CPU: FX-8320, nothing wrong with it, using it for about 19 months now. cooler: i got a set from frozen cpu, i really didnt need a watercooler, becasue i did not overclock, but i didnt know too much about what i was doing) radiator: 360 xspc radiator res/pump: dual bay combo from xspc fans: 3 120mm fans that came with the set, high static preasure, fairly quiet GPU: ASUS R9 270X 2GB, RAM: 8GB Gskill ripjaw x 2133 MOBO: asus m5a97 R2.0 PSU: rosewill hive 750w modular 80+ bronze Case: in win GRone SSD: samsung 840 evo 120GB HDD: WD blue 1TB OS: win 8 pro Ya i take decent care of it, cleaning out dust every few months, its not very dusty here, so it doesnt need it too often. i built it 19mo ago, but put in the water loop about 10 mo ago, i changed the water out 4mo ago. i did upgrade the gpu about 10 mo ago, so its a little newer. i still have all the parts that go with the case that i didnt use(hdd cages, screws, ect.) just incase the new owner would like to change it up. it runs well, decent gaming machine. i have put almost 1100 into it(yes i know i could have been smarter about my parts and gotten a nicer, faster computer for less, but it is my first PC, so its not perfect. the only major issue is the water pump makes a small rattling noise, its not noticeable when playing music, or a game, but while the speakers aret busy, it is noticable.

I originally got a EVGA GTX 780 6Gb SC (06G-P4-3787-KR) for $550 back in July. I also had to RMA because of a hardware discovery issue just recently & got a new one that's been working better than the old one. This card was only made by EVGA & ASUS (and is no longer being manufactured). The GTX 980 has shown a 67% performance increase for the same price and i'm planning on selling the 780 now to invest in that card (I don't expect a full return) -Is there anything I should know to help me sell it, or something the buyer might need like warranty papers or something?
-
FYI - I'm not advertising, I do not have it for sale ANYwhere yet, this topic is for discussion. Thinking the RMA was going to take 4-6 Weeks... I prepared. Being a 7970 from a friend who said 'sucked in' & to keep it, I'm using 1080p by the way. So Yep, I have a brand new replacement Gigabyte R9 290-OC (1040Mhz) , /w RMA forms showing it's been replaced & Receipt stating original purchase date of original card and 4 Months of Warranty left. I have the Original Box, manual, paper bits in the box,.. everything but the Driver disc and the 4Pin Molex>PCIE adapters. So.. as they are still currently without a pricedrop on the new ones, being around $450 AUD, what would this be worth? Put into my machine for testing purposes, which it passed with flying colors, that make it 'officially used'? Would you personally, use a new pricing method or a near new pricing method? Pre-Thanks to future responses & if you don't have something valuable to add to the discussion. Don't. Ta Mateys.

Hey guys! Only about 4 months ago, I built my first computer, which I use mainly for gaming, but as of late more and more graphic design stuff as well (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign mostly). Persuaded by a friend of mine, I bought the R9 280X Vapor-X card for € 289 ($ 371). I kinda regret it because it's quite loud and I get the feeling that nvidia offers better driver support and game optimalisation (this was extremely noticeable when I tried out Wildstar which ran like shit on my AMD card, but apparently nvidia cards worked just fine...). With the release of the GTX 970 it seemed like a good idea to change my graphics card, but in order to not lose all the money I spent on the 280X, I was thinking of selling the 280X, but i have no idea what I can still ask for it... What do you think would be an acceptable price? I have only been using it for roughly 4 months and haven't done any overclocking or crazy stuff with it. Also, do you agree that it would be a good idea to upgrade or am I being silly? If I look at some benchmarks, the 970 seems to be a pretty decent enough upgrade from the 280X, but I would welcome your opinions. My other specs are: AMD FX8350 @ 4 ghz (can boost up to 4.5 though) Asus sabertooth 990 FX R2.0 8gb RAM CoolerMaster 650W 128gb SSD Samsung EVO 1TB Western DIgital HDD Additional question: if I were to go 970 SLI in the future, would this PSU be able to handle it? Or is 650W not enough? Thank you!

Hi all, this is my first forum post, so I apologise in advance if this topic shouldn't be here. Recently I made the mistake of buying an Alienware 17 laptop. I didn't think about it at all and I was just focused on having a new computer. But now the more I think of it, for me the right decision would have been to buy all of the computer components and build a desktop. If I could, I would sell my laptop now and use that money to build the desktop, since all the laptop does anyway is sit on my desk like a desktop. But this is where problems come along. First of all, I have had the laptop to long (4-5 months) to return it to the manufacturer and get a decent amount of money back. the second problem is that I don't know anyone who I could actually sell it to for a decent amount of money. The final problem has to do with my parents. They would never allow me to sell something of that price. Any piece of advice would be welcome. Sorry again of this isn't what I should be making a thread about or whatnot. Thanks!

I have been searching everywhere for a price tag on this, and I have found nothing. I hope I can find some help here. Sorry if there isn't much info, ask and I could probably get it for you. Specs: CPU: i7-3610QM RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (Upgraded from stock) GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 630M No major cosmetic damage, just a dark spot where the wrist would go for WASD keys. No scratches, dents, great condition. Full system cleaned, everything wiped down, inside clean from dust. Clean install of Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) included, no bloatware, proper drivers, etc. Planning to sell on eBay and/or Craigslist. Laptop was bought, custom made from CyberpowerPC about a year ago from posting time.
