Recently I've found myself in a bit of a conundrum. I have several raspberry Pi's and Odroids that have or will be running home assistant. The consensus in the community is to use a dongle and a SSD through I do not like the fragility of this bulk nor do I trust the "small capacity" >128gb ssds out there. However there are brands like SanDisk and Samsung making high endurance SD cards rated for 120,000 hours of operation. I am currently using a Samsung pro endurance 128gb SD card and it has outlived any other SD card I have ever bought. It is still chucking along in good health. My issue is the lack of reviews and test done on these cards as IOPs are a huge deal with home assistant. Home assistants database writes out every device/entity event. Almost all SD cards bite the dust because of this operation. What is the communities experience with these high/pro/max endurance SD cards from Samsung and SanDisk. What would be optimal to deploy home assistant? Would love to see a tech tips video on SD cards and the specific applications. Should I be using a A2 SD card? A high endurance SD card? A SD card that has the most IOPs?

Does anyone have the file for the sd card holders from Linus's "Cardboard". It was shown in Justine's tour of their office. I would like to print some but I can find them. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

So I have an ONN 8" tablet running Android 9 which was cheap and over all meets the important but limited needs I have for it, But it has one very annoying quirk.. I use an SD card set as portable storage and anytime I move image files to it they become unreadable until I fully shutdown and restart the tablet (just rebooting doesn't work).. I already tested 3 different and known good SD cards so it's not a bad card, And tried both the default as well as some 3rd party file manager apps so I don't think it's a app bug so I am out of idea's on what I might be able to do to fix it

It's really difficult to discern between the best SDcard reader in the world and one that will fall apart in five days. Are there any recommended? I have large amounts of flash storage that I use SD cards for, mostly with pictures on them.

I am looking for a microSD card and found this SD card with 512 GB class 10, but I noticed it's price is so much lower than any equivalent in brands such as sandisc or Samsung Here is the listing https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GR36K87/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_czAHFbSP0P69T When checking prices to similar microSD cards, this card is way cheaper. I tried to Google the brand but did not get much useful information. I checked with Amazon and they say their products are authorised and it all seems good. It's reviews are good but again, there is no guarantee that this is not a scam. So I wonder. Has anyone here heard about this brand or maybe even tested this microSD card? What is your advice should I buy this or avoid it? I would prefere to avoid a return due to inconvenience with working hours Vs post office opening hours. Cheers.

Hey everyone I need some help, just the other day my sister in law's SD card in her phone crapped out and she has lost all of her pictures from the last five months. She's a very sentimental person and it would mean a lot to her if we could somehow recover the pictures. When it gets plugged into a computer it asks to be formatted, we haven't formatted the card to make sure we don't permanently delete her photos. But I need recommendations on softwares to use to try and recover her data. Much thanks -Jayce

Hi there, my panasonic lumix camera has recently started to give up on me, first it was that whenever I connected the camera to my laptop the laptop would only recognise the internal memory on the card rather than the sd card, now when I turned on the camera, it said the sd card was locked even though I havent touched the sd card for a month, I have checked for the lock slider and that was on the unlock place and when I inserted the sd card back in again, it still said: ''SD Card locked''. Any Ideas on how to get my camera to recognise the sd card?

I bought myself a 1024GB Huawei SD card for £7.90. When it arrived I immediately noticed problems when trying to use it as additional storage and any files copied over were impossible to open. I ran H2testw to check it over several days. Only 32GB of the advertised storage was legit, the rest just doesn't exists. It took ebay stepping in themselves to get me the refund. The seller wanted me to disable my firewall and disable all security settings to test the card, INSTANT red flag! I demanded a return label so I could send it back, they claimed to have tested the card and deemed it as OK and fully functional. This is impossible as the card is still sitting right here with me and I haven't been given a return label. Clearly I made a mistake and should have paid more attention to the warning of buying cheap stuff off ebay. Sorry Linus, I'll do better next time :( I'll post the details of the H2testw results too so I can see and get tips from you all: Warning: Only 1023981 of 1023983 MByte tested. I guess this would've made a fun AliExpress finds video, but you can buy them in the US. Too bad it's only a handful of Samsung notebooks that support this tech. Yes the title is right, 500MB/s reads and 200MB/s writes; 35K IOPS on a microSD card size but different connector (link to buy below). It can read SD and UFS, but UFS isn't compatible with existing microSD slots. To bad the list of supported devices is basically one model of Korean notebook that has crappy internals but great I/O and Gigabit WiFi on board. Just shows how far ahead Korea's internet game is when it's 4GB RAM pentium notebooks have gigabit wifi and some US/UK aimed laptops are still not adopting ac WiFi on (some) midrange devices! https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/memory-cards/mb-fa256g-am-mb-fa256g-am/ Notebook that supports it - https://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-Notebook-Flash-NT530XBB-K24W-GIGA-Wi-Fi-Pentium-Silver-13-3-128GB-SSD-/292807178746

Hey Everyone! Im stuck trying to recover images and other stuff from an old SD Card. I already successfully did this with another SD card a few hours ago but the second one gives me nightmares. Problem: For some reason the 32 GB SD Card is only recognized as 1GB Raw storage. I tried EaseUS, Lazesoft Data recovery, Recuva as well as TestDisk/Photorec 7.1. Every Program is just able to identify the card as 1GB Storage and is unable to find any data on there. Testdisk didnt show any other Partitions on there. /Chkdsk didnt work due to the format being RAW. Do you have any other idea what i could do? Thanks a lot! Image:EaseUS Sorry for the language being german. Its asking me to choose the partition it shall recover but doesnt offer any. It jsut says Storage: 1GB Not allocated

So i got an old Xperia Aqua m4, and yes i know, its old, But thats because my other phone died on me and i cant seem to get it to work. Anyways, this phone sadly only got 8gb internal storage and android uses about 4gb of that while all the pre-installed apps take up about 1-2gb. So i only get like 1-2gb usable storage. I do got an sd card in it thats on 64gb and im wondering if there are any way to set that sd card to the internal storage? Ive seen people doing it easily but they all say i need at least android 6.0 (marshmallow or something), but my phone only got 5.0 and i doesnt seem to update to the recent one. So im wondering If it even is possible for me to set the SD card to the internal storage AND IF NOT, how can i upgrade to androind 6.0? Ive considerd rooting my phone, but i wanna make sure there arent any other way i can try before i try rooting it.

So, I've been looking around to a potential issue of mine which would be the rapid battery drain on my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone. This is inconsistent with the pattern I've seen on many phones in past. I'm perfectly capable and willing to do a battery replacement on my phone but would rather not have to if I could and given the strange pattern (that is to say the inconsistency of this battery drain occurring over time not being consistent with the typical battery life shortening over time curve caused by the traditional culprit, the crystalline structure of the battery slowly become less and less uniform with repeated charging and discharging). The only issue I could think of/find is the microSD card being potentially faulty (Sandisk card used and brand new when original bought from T-mobile alongside phone purchase). Any way to get a more concrete idea of the situation without pulling out my card and doing a brute force test? S.M.A.R.T. for microSD cards on phone? Anything? Thank you for any and all help ladies and gentlemen. I await your reply.

Yes, you can actually buy a "Linus Brand" USB Drive TODAY (well... you can pre-order it today and actually receive it in a few months ). Linus brand is the only scam brand that is up-front about just how much of a scam it is - with an advertised capacity of 1TB, and a real capacity of 32GB, this fully functional USB drive is the perfect gift to yourself if you really really want a fun little collectible piece of Linus Tech Tips history. Pre-order yours today on the Linus Tech Tips store at https://www.lttstore.com/ Warning to anyone outside of North America - it's going to be a lot for shipping on this. We're working on getting those costs down, but for now, it's something that we cannot get around. Sorry about that!

I recently picked up an S9 as part of an upgrade deal with my carrier. I also bought a Micro SD card that stopped working in my S9 (I can view it on my PC with an adapter (yes the "lock switch" is off) when I transferred 2000+ memes to it from my older ASUS Zenfone Maxplus. I've done the Regedit route and made sure the Hex value for "write protect" is 0x0-. But that hasn't work either. Using software tools doesn't work because of the write protection and CMD has working either. In CMD I ran the following: >disk part >list disk >select disk 1 >attributes disk clear readonly >clean (but I get error: (diskpart has encountered an error the request could not be performed because of an i/o error) So I tried the following: >chkdsk : D (which came up clear but disk tool "check for errors" says it found errors and needs to repair the drive but can't because of write protection) I'm really out of ideas now, I'm still trying to troubleshoot this but I seem completely unable to clear the write protection. I just want to format the whole thing to start over. Is it time to exchange it for another one? Is there something else I can do?

Help satisfy my curiousity, RAM shell strip
aandril posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So I was wondering what the inside of a ram module looks like as well as an sdram module. I want to strip off the shells of each, but I don't have any idea how? Especially since these parts are so small/thin. SD card would be the hardest. What can I use, without destroying the inner module? -

Hello, I bought a 5.25" Dashboard from China that has SD/TF cards readers on it (and some USB2.0 and 3.0). The USB ports works perfectly, but the SD card reader only works on the first try. After I select "Safe Removal", the computer (or the dashboard) doesn't detects that the SD card was removed from the hardware, but still waiting. As the computer stills waiting, I can't insert the SD again until I restart the system. I found that the error showing in the Device Manager is the error 47: "Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for safe removal, but it has not been removed from the computer." Extra info: Is there any way to fix this? Like a soft-reset of the dashbaord (without restarting windows)? Thanks for the help!
