Hi! Its been a hot minute since i've been active on here but since i remember it to have been so helpfull last time, i thought i'll try again! So here's my situation: My boot-SSD crapped out on me and i cant use it as a boot-drive anymore. So i thought i'd put said SSD in my new PC as a secondary SSD. On my now main SSD i have win10 and on the crapped one i had another instance of win10 aswell. Now, i have a lot of programs and data on the old SSD that i cant just re-install on my new SSD bc then some of the data would be lost (music projects etc). Smart little me thought why not just run the exe on my old SSD and see if the program runs? And surprisingly enough with steam that worked very well. It said the first time that it couldnt run properly because some data was missing (.dll stuff mainly) and it repaired itself and now it works like a charm. I didnt have as much luck with other applications like itunes, cubase etc. Those just showed the error but they didnt repair themself. Now how can i make it that those registry-entries go onto my main boot-drive so that i can run those programs properly again? I guess it cant be too hard since steam did it itself in like 2 seconds^^ btw my old SSD is now D: my new one is C: and the storage drive is F: i'm running win10 home, an HP compaq elite 8300 i7-3770 and yeah.... Thanks 4 helping!

Hi Linus, Hope you doing great, We watched your hacked Nvidia driver video based on the P106 and ordered that. After arriving I just had the ivy bridge I5 3470 processor with Intel Motherboard to work with and tried all sorts of installation process which are Russian, American Also But Could not get this working and found out its not gonna work with IVY Bridge Processors. BUT WE EVENTUALLY STARTED PUBG and THIS IS ONLY GAME WHICH USES THE P106 WITH FULL POTENTIAL FOR SOME REASON DON't Know WHY Its working perfectly. EVEN if I remove the Intel HD GRAPhics And with the standalone P106 Display Driver It runs with full potential and Tried different methods hoping to get other games to be working but our luck is not with us. Since I'm Managed to check some windows debugging tools to check the game process using which REGistry Key to initiate the P106 Driver and Tweaked some Registry Keys. Still its not working. Could YOU PLEAse test this with IVY Bridge to test and FIGURE's out the solution for THIS . Its a humble request IF you can Help us and save our lives LOL. I Mean you really a true hero of Modern Technologies. Here is the link of the tool that I used to Check the Registry keys and process tree of the Game running https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ and download the Process Monitor which is called Procmon.exe and please Try to get this working on IVY bridge. I will really appreciate this. Best Regards, Man of the Year

Hey all first post, So I do some torenting one night on my custom win 10 pro PC and I'm guessing my system restarted for some reason. After that my wan adapter stopped working. I tried an old adapter I had and that didn't work either. I tried all the common stuff, adjusting the adapter settings, uninstalling the drivers and restarting. My access point works fine too. I just installed Windows on another drive and now it works. I read online it could be a registry issue, any chance I can fix it? I can start over on a new I installation I just really don't want to...

I would love nothing more in this world to mod an up and coming build to throw up a splash page of my choosing when the wrong password is entered too many times in windows. I know that changing registry values allows you to alter things like the default background and startup/login sound in previous versions of windows. Would it be possible to do this sort of thing or possibly link an event trigger to the brute force protection? Google fu has been failing me in my research when I look for this sort of thing because of all the people googling "How to brute force". Would love any incite into this or links to articles!

windows Rolling back on an OS installation Windows Server 2003
harry-nchagwa posted a topic in Windows
Good day, Any information that may assist will highly be appreciated. I had a Windows Server 2003 installation on a device which was mistakenly upgraded to Windows 10 with the Custom Installation which overwrites all the presets, programs and data. Data Recovery software have worked well in previous situations but I have never tested for situations such as this one. My question; is there any procedure or software that may help reinstate the previous OS with the software and data that was initially available? Note that the previous setup lacked any backups or restoration configurations whatsoever. Please advise... Warm regards, Haron Mumuli. -

-Bought and Installed paragon software HFS+ -Stopped working after the second day, just gave me error messages saying It restarted with errors. -Tried uninstalling and got an error 'Service 'apmwinsrv' could not be stopped. Verify you have sufficient privileges. -Tried multiple ways of trying to seeing if I could verify it somehow and nothing worked. So I resorted to just getting rid of the software. -Watched a video "how to uninstall programs in safe mode" and followed directions. Somehow I think it made it worse. - It doesn't stop to give the message midway through the uninstallation process anymore. It just speeds through everything super fast and nothing changes. The program is still on my computer. Update: It still pauses, but now it says sometimes that I need to be an administrator to uninstall.

Hi, have someone an alternative to the windows explorer? I don't know why but the explorer sucks. Everytime I want to search something it takes soo long (even with SSDs). And sometimes (mostly while transferring to much files) it crashes. I tried Linux and the speed is at least 4 times higher, it doesn't crash and it finds my data right away. I tried the program "search everything" and it finds all my data in a few seconds.. but it isn't unfortunately a all in one solutions. --- (I tried out some other "exlorer-things" like Tera-Copy but I think in the Background it is still the Windows explorer.. with crashes a some point, and is low, too.) ---- I would love to hear some alternatives from you. Maybe there's a fix or improvement for that. Even playing in the registry data would be a problem for me. Thanks.

help HELP! My screen flashes after I edit the registry
justaguyhuh posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I loaded another user's registry file under HKEY_USERS and added a string value at HKEY_USERS\[User'sName]\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartupApproved\Run. The value was a path. And that file is a .bat which let the user log off. I thought it would make the user log off automaticlly when he logged in. When I tried to log in that account, it took a very long time to log in. Then most of the icons on the desktop couldn't show properly. Soon the screen went dark and then lit up again and looped. But my account was fine. I pressed WIN+L to quit and deleted the string value, the bat file and reboot the computer but that account was still broken. And I didn't make a back up. HELP! -
After running Win10Privacy on a clean install, like I always to, I forgot to uncheck the option that disables the thumbnail cache. Now I cant seem to get it to work again. Ive tried all the windows explorer options and registry hacks that google could find but nothing works. My only guess is to do something with the registry, but Im not sure how to do that. Ive attached the log of what it did, so hopefully you guys can help me reverse it. W10Privacy.log

Hello everyone! So I am testing some registry stuff (don't worry I have it all backed up), and was testing to change the CPU name in the specs that works even when restarting it. So I looked up some stuff on the web, and I found this to apply my registry : The processorNameString is the name i tried to give my cpu which is i7-6800K. Alright so what's wrong? You see, when I clicked to apply the registry it said that it's done, it was successful... But when I went into my PC specs it didn't change. Oh and about that stuff for keeping it "permanent", I read I could just create a shortcut of the registry and add it to the Startup on Windows so hoping that would work, but for now I need help on why the specs aren't changing. Thanks a lot!

So basically i have a program, which i cant install or uninstall(doesnt exist anywhere). When i try to install it says that a newer version is already installed. So apparantly the solution is: Solution: I've found in the registry thread under HKEY_USERS where DaVinci installation info is stored and deleted it. Then everything worked as it should! So what does that solution mean? I haven't touched windows registry keys and i have no idea where they are located or what they do. So can someone explain how can i use that solution?

I tried a lot of different methods but only the on down below worked (don't worry i have compiled it to a file for you) note: you might need to restart explorer.exe for the change to take effect, to do so run this in cmd ' taskkill /f /im explorer.exe & start explorer.exe ' (without quotes) ENJOY! for anyone that wants to see how to do it for himself or even if you wanted to make your own version for any filetype https://superuser.com/a/1284919/937438

As said in the title, I edited the LogPixels value in the registry, to make windows scale smaller (from 96 dpi to 76), but to apply these changes i need a reboot, or a at least a logout and a login, but by doing that the value jumps immediately back up to 96. What could be causing it? Also, I tried custom resolutions, but I have a laptop that has the display of the laptop itself connected to the the hd graphics (5500, i3 5005u), so I cannot set custom resolutions in the nVidia control panel, and Intel hd graphics control panel won't let me do it, slapping me with a "custom resolution exceeds maximum bandwidth", even when the resolution is smaller that the native 1366*768 (yes I checked and tried every single frequency setting from 15 to 60 hz). Any Ideas on how can i make windows scale smaller without connecting an external 6 billion K 240hz million dollar display? The laptop is an Acer Aspire E5 573G with a GeForce 920m, 4GB ram and an i3 5005u.

So I found a forum which no longer exists that allowed me to change a reg key in Windows 10 that fixed my GPU problems when gaming and streaming on the Same PC. Now I have recently Formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Win10 so this fix is gone. Was something about Windows 7 does not sync every frame and Windows 10 does. Pretty sure it was an NginX fix but worked with OBS as well. On my old PC which was an I7-4790K , 32GB, Asus Maxiumus Hero VII, Asus Strix GTX970, Corsair RM850i and WIN7, I could stream easily without any FPS issues. The New PC Starts lagging about 5 - 10 minutes into my stream. I notice my game FPS is fine but my OBS FPS dips to 13FPS which is what my viewers see. (was locked at 60FPS before). My new PC is I7-8700K, 32GB RAM, Asus Z370-H Strix Gaming Mobo, Hi100v2 Liquid cooler, RM850i Power Supply, and an Asus Strix GTX970. I also use 2 monitors First one is an Asus 144hz (VG248QE), second monitor is 60hz Samsung (P2770HD).The only difference is i used to Stream @ 720P (1280x720). Using H264 for the stream and Nvidia NVENC H264 for the recording. I stream @ 900P (1600x900) with 6000 bitrate and record @ 1080P(1920x1080) with 20000 bitrate. CPU Usage Preset = faster. Profile=High. Ive tried using new drivers, and old drivers with no change, Ive removed all Bloatware from WIN10, Ive disabled some of the WIN10 services that are not needed although i do remember when changing this reg key i changed it from a 3 to a 4 which would tell me its a service i disabled before but cannot remember what it was. Thank you for your time in advance.

Avast Antivirus and Reimage Repair say I have a ton of broken registries and "unstable programs". Lately, Windows has been crashing a lot. What should I do about this? I'm guessing a clean install of Windows is in order, but I'd rather leave that as a last resort. Any help is appreciated

I have a wonderful pc that works very well until one day half of the programs I use won't respond I can't install anything resetting windows won't fix it and sfc /scannow gives me "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios." For the love of god someone help me... I've tried everything but the scams for cleaning registry and at this point just scam me already and put me out of my misery... but all things seriously I can't do anything without it crashing when I start a game the pc restarts that's if I can get into the game without the program not responding any ideas????

All I want to do is to create registry keys and values, and read them back some time later... how do I achieve this using the following functions (obtained from here): Open the registry : RegOpenKeyEx Query the value : RegQueryValueEx /* do something with value*/ Set the value back : RegSetValueEx Close the registry : RegCloseKey I'm looking for the simplest possible way, so I don't necessarily require other trivial data and can probably set many parameters to NULL... Thanks!

In my experience, registry cleaners cause more problems than they purport to fix. Unfortunately, I've seen YouTube videos from IT experts that still recommend using CCleaner. To be fair, if hardware or networking is your field of expertise, you might not spend enough time in front of consumer software to unearth these issues. Up until a few years ago, I used registry cleaning products from Norton and Revo Uninstaller. I've heard people talk about how good CCleaner is and I'm not impressed. As the go-to techie in the family, I try my best to provide accurate diagnostics. On a couple of different occasions that I can remember, using Revo Uninstaller resulted in a DLL error during startup on a family member's computer. I've never had a registry cleaner completely brick a computer, but if the goal is to fix a particular issue, DLL errors are the exact opposite of what you want. To perform a test, I fired up my VM and downloaded CCleaner. Note that this is a fresh install of Windows 10. It's a 90-evaluation copy for testing. Here are the results of my initial scan: What concerns me is that the .NET Framework is tied into many different programs so it's entirely possible that deleting these could result in unintended issues down the line.

While discussing the differences between Windows and Linux, those in support of Linux often mention "Registry Rot" as the major flaw with the Windows OS. From personal experience, I can attest that Post-Windows XP machines that run slow are usually because of bad software, and not because of the OS itself. What are your experiences? Do you think that Registry Rot is real, or just an excuse to tout Linux above Windows? Does Linux have an alternative to the Windows Registry that performs the same functions with equal efficiency? Do you think that machines slowing over time is because of the OS or 3rd Party Software? I'd appreciate everyone's input on the matter, especially if you have experience using both Windows and Linux. Thanks!

My Grandad recently upgraded from W7 to W10 with no issues. After he did, I needed him to print off a JPEG file for me since my printer has broken down. When he clicked on the file to open it, it came up with an error saying its file location had a invalid registry. So I tried opening of JPEG files on his PC that he was able to open before and they no longer open as well. He didnt have this issue before upgrading to W10. Also, the JPEG images can still be opened using paint (not really practical) and imported into programs like Publisher and Word. Also, his computer does not have Windows Photo Viewer installed, only the new W10 Photo app. Any ideas to why this is the problem and how to resolve it? Thanks!

So... For the longest time I've wanted to display my Google Drive/Mega/AdobeCC/... folders in the top-level of the windows explorer, just like OneDrive & Dropbox are by default. Some time ago, combining different tutorials I found on the 'net, I was finally able to full fill mt long-time gripe and put my OCD to rest. (yes I know it's not actual OCD just with a feeling of wanting neatness or whatever, let me have my semantic fun.) THIS TUTORIAL WILL REQUIRE A LOT OF MANUAL REGISTRY EDITING, IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH IT, PLEASE DON'T DO IT First of all, we are going to need the folders we want to integrate in Windows Explorer and their location. The name of the folders (their path) should not contain any spaces. (I still haven't figured how to get around this limitation) For the, these are located on my E drive, being the Google Drive & MegaSync folders. Navigate to the previously mentioned folders and click on the icon next to the breadcrumbs to get the full path. For me, these are E:\GoogleDrive & E:\MegaSync respectively. Remember or note them down, as we will require them for the next steps. Before we start editing the registry, however, we need to create/download/get the icons that explorer will display to the left of the folder. It needs to be a windows .ico file. For these folders, I will provide them, but you can always create your own using icoconvertor, but there are a multitude of similar website on the internet. Put the icons in the folder, in this example we are going to place them in the root of it. GoogleDrive.ico MegaSync.ico We also need two random GUIDs, one for each of the folders. A GUID looks something like this: {95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1} and you can generate your own here, just don't forget the tick the braces checkbox as well as the hyphens one. Now we can finally start editing the registry. For the unaware, simply type regedit in the start menu and open the app. Now comes the most boring, tedious but important part: HKCR = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Navigate to [HKCR\CLSID] (there is another CLSID folder inside, you don't need it, you need the first one) Create a new key with the name "{95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1}" (or the GUID you created/want to use) [screenshot] Inside the Key [HKCR\CLSID{95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1}] right click on "(Default)", select modify and specify the value "Google Drive". (folder name explorer will display) [screenshot] Inside the Key [HKCR\CLSID{95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1}] right click and select "New > String Value". Call this new value "InfoTip" and give it the value "E:\GoogleDrive". Inside the Key [HKCR\CLSID{95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1}] right click and select "New > DWORD (32 Bit) Value". Call this new value "System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree" and give it a value of "1". Inside the Key [HKCR\CLSID{95B84517-5AFC-468C-BC4E-5DBFB29830D1}] right click and select "New > DWORD (32 Bit) Value. [screenshot] Open up Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC or right-click the start menu if you're using Windows 8 and higher). Click on the "Details" tab. Find "explorer.exe". Right click "explorer.exe" and select "End Task". Once "explorer.exe" has ended, click "File > Run New Task". Type in "explorer" and hit enter. Explorer should now relaunch and take the new registry keys into consideration. If all is working, you should now have a new "Google Drive" folder in your left hand menu. This is how the final result should look like: (Optional) To place the folder in My Computer instead of the root of windows explorer, modify step 43 by going to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace] and adding the key there. For the MegaSync and any other folder you want to use, simply generate another GUID and repeat the steps, replacing the paths & names where needed. Hello, everyone. Another puzzler for you all today. So one day, my internet connection started to be a little weird. I had just switched ISPs, so I figured that to be the issue (turns out it was part of it, but anyways). I'm doing my usual troubleshooting routine, and I notice that IPv6 is disabled in my ethernet adapter properties. I'll just turn it on; problem solved! Turns out that my IPv6 was completely uninstalled, not just removed. I'm too lazy to take more screenshots. So I figure out where the internet protocols are stored ( C:\Windows\INF ), and proceed to attempt reinstallation of IPv6, since I had already pingtested and tracerouted IPv4 with no noticeable problems. Here's where things get interesting. ( TL;DR ) I am blocked by group policy when I attempt to reinstall the IPv6 protocol. Help! PS) My beautiful image editing courtesy of the wonderful Microsoft Paint.

So my Razer Synapse keeps muting my Sony Vegas so I have to go into my Registry to change the Render_mute to 0 instead of 1. However, it won't save. I tried exporting it, but whenever I put my computer in sleep and then wake it back up, my Sony Vegas is muted again. Also I'm on windows 10. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
