I found this R9 280X with a Mother and CPU. The Motherboard and CPU worked, but when I set up the GPU it would shut off. I tried it with a 500W Power supply. Thinking it was the PSU, I bought a 850w PSU. It would still shut down. I put in a Gtx 460 to see if it was the MB or the CPU, but it turned on normally. Any tips or suggestions?

Hi. I need to disconnect my GPU fan due to it causing trouble. However, the fan I need to disconnect (Leftmost in the image), seems to be directly connected to the all the fans' PCB connector. How do I disconnect that one fan and leave the other 2 running?

GPU in question: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-x Hi, a few weeks back my GPU failed while I was playing Black Mesa, crashing the PC often until the GPU wouldn't send a signal. I tried it again a week later, and it turned on, but I found one of the fans wasn't working, so the card must've overheated. (Image below) Tested a bit with MSI Afterburner and found that the fan would only start working when set to 85%, then keep working until I set it to 80%. What can I do to fix the fan and avoid GPU Failure? Replace it? This setup is kinda old (almost 5 years), but I don't have the money to upgrade so I'd like to keep using it a bit more. Thanks!

(This post might be a bit too long and detailed, but I don't want to be misunderstood and get mistaken advice, so bear with me. Thanks!) Hi. A few weeks back I was playing Black Mesa, when the game started to crash my PC, with the monitor displaying vertical stripes of 2 colours, each time having to hard reboot. Until after like the 6th time, the video card would simply not send a signal. Cleaned it and everything, and nothing. So I stored it away for about a week and used the PC with integrated graphics. When I tried again that week later, the card actually worked! But I realised that one of the 3 fans on the card was not working properly, so I assumed the card was originally failing due to overheating. This fan would turn a bit upon boot but then remain stationary. I installed Afterburner to test it a bit and found that it was behaving odd. It would only start spinning when I set the fan speed to about 85%, then when I lowered it, keeps spinning until 80%. So as of recently, I have not been doing any gaming with it. I tried Minecraft thinking that's safe, but it caused another fail (Luckily it rebooted no problem, but I wasn't gonna try it again). The Graphics Card I'm using is the Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-X What should I do? Some seem to suggest replacing the fan, is that it? I've been using this setup for close to 5 years, but I currently don't have the money or motivation to upgrade anything, so if possible I'd like to keep using this GPU for a bit more and not pay too much. Thanks!

Hi LTT forum, I am planning to upgrade my PC since my gpu - Asus R9 280X DC II Top died almost 2 years ago thinking of going for nvidia this time rtx 2070 super seems to be good for playing at 1080p for now, & will suit if i plan to go 1440p but since i5 4440 is too weak for that, i am going to build the entire tower- except internal storage following are the parts i have shortlisted- 1. gigabyte windforce rtx 2070 super (500$) 2. Ryzen 7 3700x (330$) 3. G.Skills ripjaws v series 3200 8GBx2 (75$) / haven't decided mobo yet. My steam library just for reference to what games i play - https://steamcommunity.com/id/beingGamer/games/?tab=all&sort=playtime Questions. 1. are these parts good enough for smooth 1080p & 1440p 2. gigabyte windforce rtx 2070 super for 500$, is this a good deal? 3. Shall I go for 2060 super instead of 2070 super? Can it handle 1440p/higher refresh rates? 4. Please suggest a mobo(not too expensive/cheap)

Hi, wew, a friend of mine got a R9 280x vapor-x for almost 3 years, and when he was playing next to me, the display just get black, and no signal, we click to reset, and wew, dead maybe, never experienced a dead card, but i got into the bios, and enabled igpu as first display, so i logged into the windows, checked Display Adapter on device manager, and the ...R9 200 series was there, with a triangle of error, ok, did check, its windows code 43, so just to give a try, i've made a clean driver instalation, and it just get partial instaled as it says, after that, i just open to check if may be some burn signs, but no one i can see, so i decided to try a x-fire with my own R9 280x, but neither me or him have the x-fire cable, them, i've put it back on his pc, and that error, on display adapters was long gone, saying that everything is fine, tryed again with gpu output, no video, i wanna know if someone experienced something like this and may know a way to fix or at last "use" something of the gpu, i wonder if it on x-fire, if still "fine" as windows says may work, as a 2nd gpu, if it do, i will buy a xfire bridge (expensive on my country and thats why i wanna know opinions), and maybe, a way to use it like the "mining gpu with no video output that linus posted" using igpu to just do everything, and just to game, maybe extract something of gpu.

Hey guys yesterday i bought a second hand 280x toxic and everything was great. But there is on small problem every now and then my monitor will blink like it's rescaling the resolution or smth. Right now the dual bios button on the card is pushed in assuming that i'm using the UEFI bios now. My motherboard is Asus Pro Gaming Aura 970 so i guess it has UEFI Bios. Should i revert to using legacy one on the card because before the strange stuff happening everything was good with the button not pushed in.

So, last week a friend of mine bought a new gpu for his computer and He let me the one he was using before: Sapphire AMD R9 280X Vapor-x 3gb GDDR5. He was able to play several games on MID/HIGH graphs on a 1080p configuration with no problem at all, getting a frame rate around the 30/60 fps. The problem appears when We installed It on my computer. After booting on secure mode We proceed to uninstall the drivers of the previous gpu I was using (using DDU). So We turned off the PC, mounted the R9 280X and boot it again, then we installed the last drivers for the graph: Adrenalin 18.12.1 (Nov, 22,2018). There was no problem at all until the momment We decided to give it a try on Battlefield 1. I am no capable of playing the game on low settings (in 720p) with a stable framerate, always dropping and lagging. I am not expecting to play with 120fps, due It is a kinda old gpu, but having those issues in low settings is not what I expected from the R9 280X. I also tried other games like Fortnite or Dragon Ball FighterZ and It is not giving the results It should give. It is no problem of the gpu because last week I tested It on my friend's computer and It was OK, having a stable framerate on MID/HIGH settings. I also checked the bottleneck that could cause with the other devices of my PC, having a 4% (https://thebottlenecker.com/calculator?d=2b7-4d-1-64-64-5bce1f13&m=697d). I am not any expert on the gpu field, so I am asking this from the point of view of a person with 0 knowledge about the way of configurating the gpu, stress-test, msi-afterburner... Thanks in advance guys! These are my PC specifications: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) X4 950 Quad Core Processor (4 CPUs) ~3.5GHz Memory: 16384MB RAM Card name: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series Display Memory: 10698 MB Dedicated Memory: 3052 MB Shared Memory: 7646 MB Current Mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

started a few months ago but is becoming more frequent. Happens randomly, though usually soon after starting PC it would seem. Sometimes sound continues for a few seconds but then it cuts off. Waiting does nothing, have to hit that hard reset button. My PC also freezes sometimes when i hover over a movie title on netflix and it doesnt recover, I have to hit reset again. When it freezes on netflix the screens don't turn grey. Is this a graphics card problem? Or could it be another piece of hardware or even software?

FX-6300 with no OC DeepCool Gammaxx 200T 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B) SEAGATE Desktop SSHD 1TB ST1000DX001 Cooler Master N200 case I'd like to buy an R9 280 or R9 280x, but I'm not sure if my PSU can handle it. My PSU is a Cooler Master Silent Pro 500w and by the numbers its efficiency is 85%. I read about similar configs with the same questions and I have mixed feelings, so I want to hear people's opinion about my config. I would be fine even if I had to underclock it a little bit (3-4% max) since I wanna protect the card from overheating anyways. (my previous r9 270x died of overheating with minimal OC) edit: I'm not looking for a specific r9 280/ r9 280x tho

So I'm deciding to buy used gpu. I'm either going for a r9 280x or a rx 560. I will make sure they are not used for mining. The r9 280x performs better than the 560 but the 560 is more new. The 280x is only 3gb while the 560 il be looking at is 4gb. So if you guys don't mind help me out here. What would be the pros and cons and what gpu should I be buying. System Specs: AMD Athlon x4 880k (overclocked 4,0-4,2 GHz) AMD r7 260x 2gb Hyperx fury black ddr3 8gb 2x4 1Tb hhd (No ssd)

I have a Kraken x61 hooked up to my R9 280X using a Kraken G12, and the thing just isn't cooling. I followed the instructions all the way through (Even though the Kraken cooler doesn't fit particularly well with the bracket, ironically), including using a copper shim on R9 280X cards (I have a 1mm unit on). I have liquid metal between the GPU die and shim, and between the shim and cooler (As I had on the air cooler before this). I used to have it overclocked to 1175MHz/1500MHz with +38mV on the air, and it handled that just fine (Never went above 70 degrees on Unigine's Heaven Benchmark). Now if I boot the benchmark the GPU will hit 90 degrees within two seconds of starting. I've tried taking the shim out (Put it back in after it made no difference), I've tried reseating everything, I've lowered the overclock down, I've tried reapplying the liquid metal... Nothing seems to work. Always, it instantly heats up to 90 degrees when loaded, and falls back down extremely quickly after (Within seconds of quitting the benchmark, it'll be at 50 degrees; If I wait about ten seconds after than, it'll fall back down to the low 40s). I'm hoping has some sort of "eureka" idea, because it's incredibly frustrated having my GPU be basically worthless right now.

Hi community! I'm from Vietnam and have roughly $130-$140 to spend on an used graphics card - and since i'm building a new rigs, i'm getting a new power supply In Vietnam, a 650W power supply is ~$5 more expensive than a 550W one. Both are Bronze rated so quality wise, it's decent. Remove the PSU factor I've gathered choices, and most compelling amongst are GTX960 Windforce G1 or MSi 2 fans version(~$150) and R9 280X MSi Twin Frozr(~$125). If i'm going with the 960 then i'll use the 550W PSU & if i'm going with the 280X i'll use a 650W one I use air conditioner but don't want to spend a hell lot in electricity bills & I play CS:GO, GTA V, Battlefield 4, Fortnite, Minecraft & except for Minecraft, which i'll be playing on Max, I play mainly on Low/Medium 1080p. And a bit of streaming too, i'll use GPU acceleration for encoding to YouTube. Will 2GB on 960 kill the gameplay? Will 280X's 250W TDP kill my electricity bills? Which one should I choose? Thanks!<I will have adequate cooling within my case>

Hello everyone! I have come back with a good enough idea on how to get the best used price performance PC No i am not going to give some tips because i am new to this used market anyway. Before i get deeper i want to give these 5 main points 1. Budget and location I am in Indonesia, so some of you might not know how are the pricing but i will give a rough idea for how much Rupiah is worth to USD 1 USD = Rp 13.750 according to coinmill and i have a budget at $500-600. New Hardware is undoable for me since DDR4 shortage is also here 2. AIM Crysis 3, BF 1, PUBG, Fortnite gaming, streaming, and little workstation for softworks 3. Displays Just one monitor, LG 27MP59-G 4. Peripherals Logitech G502, G633, G403 (Those are Mouse, Headset, and Keyboard from one brand) 5. Why do you upgrade? I want to break free from my Core 2 Duo system and feel a different experience So far i got these parts and i wonder if it is worth to buy a $45 128GB SSD that already has Windows 10 Installed, Used tho but probably decent Xeon X5670 and Asus P6T X58 SE bundle for $181 R9 280X 3GB for $181 Coolermaster 550W for $35 HP Case for $7 1TB Seagate BarraCuda HDD for $50 Team Eliteplus 16GB DDR3 for $116 Noctua NH-U14S for $66 Total $623 without SSD with OS ($45) Any overkill parts? tell me in the comments please Thank you everyone!

Trying to overclock my R9 280X and I've increased the core clock and memory clock. The increase is displayed in GPU-Z (its at 1160mhz coreclock and 1600 mhz) but when i run unigine heaven or valley, the GPU core clock and speed read out at 880mhz and 1500mhz. I've tried increasing the voltage too, but that didn't have any effect. Don't worry about if my core clock/memory clock is too high, I just need help with figuring out why my card won't stay over clocked in the bench marks. Motherboard: B350 ASUS STRIX ROG CPU: R5 1500X RAM: 8GB CORSAIR PSU: 600WATTS EVGA Any help is appreciated!

Hi, I have an R9 280X ( tri-x oc and stuff ) for an eGPU ( the adaptator still on transit ) and I don't know what is the cheapest and working PSU I can get with 2 x 8pins connectors.
