So i built a computer recently, high end with a i7-6700k, Asus Strix 980ti, EVGA z170 ftw motherboard, hyperx 16gb 2133mhz and a corsair 1000w psu. (watercooled x61) also have a 144hz monitor (g-sync) I am very happy with the performance of the computer stock as is, but after a few weeks i decided to see if i could do some overclocking, i set a baseline clock of 4.5Ghz and increased the voltage accordingly. The first thing i noticed was the performance *decrease*. Tested first in fallout, i went from 120fps average to a capped 72 fps, the cap came into play after the overclock, with it going back to my normal 120fps after i revert the overclock back to stock. So i tested it again in a game called TERA. The fps stock cpu was a nice capped 71 fps with in populated area's around 50-60, after a 4.6Ghz overclock to the cpu i tried about 10 minutes ago, im seeing now around 60 fps with 30-40 in populated areas (same area as tested before). This is so confusing as its making the performance decrease instead of better, any help is appreciated

When the full game is release do you think I will be able to get a constant 144+ FPS on custom settings between medium and high @1080p with a GTX 970, i7 4790k, 8 gb of ram? Do you think that a 500 USD-ish pascal card could kill Overwatch at 1080 on epic settings? Note: Yes, I do have a 144 hrz monitor (Asus VG24QE)

So recently, I've noticed that all my FIrestrike scores have been consistently lower than before at they are all scoring a consistent number lower. I used to be able to hit 10500+ points without a problem every single time, but now it's dropped quite dramatically, seemingly only graphical fronts. (see pictures) I don't think it's the driver because the drivers in both tests are the same version. Background programs are the almost exact same during both tests. Shadowplay has been turned OFF in both cases. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures to show the difference in performance in games, but it's there. A few fps (about 3 fps I would say) in GTA V. Although that isn't a lot, it is in fact the difference between hitting the 60 fps V-sync cap and not. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this slowdown? Thanks.

Hello everyone! I'm interested in seeing what peoples views and opinions are on this general topic. I would really appreciate if I could get as many people to take this as the data will be more reliable. Please participate, the survey is very short and is generalization looking over a few, though please avoid spamming choices, guessing, using profanity and other irrelevant contributions. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GK6LSLW It only takes 30 seconds to complete Thanks in advance! Not 100% if alternate survey sites are allowed against the poll system here however this site allows me to process and read the answers much better.Sorry if its not. Really hope this gets some contributors :^)

Hello guys ! I recently bought a Lenovo A7010 [here] with a FULL HD display resolution and an octa-core at 1.5 Ghz. On my previews phone - the Xperia M2 [here] with 540 x 960 and Quad-core 1.2 GHz I had pretty good or rather decent gaming experience and performance. On the Lenovo however, I am seeing some decrease in gaming performance ! I have read some articles about gaming on android and I believe my issue lies in the Full HD Res that the phone struggles to keep up. My question is as following, if I root my phone, or find another way to move to a lower resolution, will there be an increase in performace gaming-wise? And what resolution should I head towards ? I tried forcefully reducing the DPI and Res of the phone, but it crashed most of the times and there was no increase in performance whenever I actually managed to run a stable system operation. I would like to thank in advance to those who take the time to read the post and share their thoughts about it. Cya ~

Another simple question. Is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Xtreme Gaming worth paying the extra premium or is there any better option? Please keep in mind that performance, noise and cooling should be around the same or better.

I just built a new PC and everyone told me that I had amazing specs and would easily get great graphics. That's not really the case now that it's built. In CS:GO I can get around 100 on de_dust2 with every setting on low or very low. With max settings I can get 20... I have a GeForce GTX 970 graphics card and an Intel i5 6600K processor.I also have 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. I need some advice because I highly doubt that I'm getting the performance that I payed for.

Hey all, I am new to this site but I need help in understanding what is going on here. I am confused heavily by Satellite reign and some info that leads me to believe that my GPU is bottlenecking my CPU.To show this I took a screenshot of a location where the framerate tanked and the GPU was almost at capacity and while simultaneously the CPU was far from maxed out. I don't know why this is happening with a budget CPU and GPU, maybe it is just Unity or some sort of performance bug with the game but I would appreciate any suggestions. P.S. I get 35-45 FPS in normal (non tanking areas) on High and no effects turned on. Thanks for any help! Specs: Intel Core i3 - 6100 EVGA GeForce GTX 950 SC 2GB 1Tb 7200 RPM Seagate hardrive 8Gb 1666mhz DDR3 500WT Corsair CX PSU Windows 10 Edu edition

Greetings! So, I have kind of a weird problem with my PC, have had it for about a year or so. After the PC has been off for a little while and I start it up the performance is low when I start up a game, Battlefield 4, GTA V, CS:GO.... But after I shut the game(s) down and restart the PC the problem is gone. For instance when I first start Battlefield 4 the FPS is like 50-60~ and the screen is tearing, after restarting the FPS is well above 100 and the game runs smooth. Sometimes I have to restart several times for the performance to be "normal". I have tried running MemTest86, which resulted fine, updated motherboard and GPU BIOS, installed all the newest drivers that are available, reformatted Widows several times, tried both Win 7, 8/8.1 and 10. So I'm hoping some of you maybe have a clue to what is wrong/what I could try to do/test. Setup: CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k GPU: Gainward GeForce GTX 780 Storage: Intel 335 Series 240GB Memory: Kingstone 8GB DDR Motherboard: Asus Z-87 Deluxe (Hope I posted this in the right category)

Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from the pitiful GT220 currently occupying the single PCIe 2.0 16x slot on my mobo (MSI Indio). I do a lot of video editing and feel an upgraded GPU would improve the speed of my workflow. So, I have a couple of questions that I hope any tech savvy video editors out there may be able/willing to answer. Due to the minimal amount of space available in the case I'm using (an upgraded HP p6235uk) the best card I can find that will fit is a GTX 970. So, my question is, how do the Base & Boost Clock speeds on the cards available from different manufacturers affect things like render performance and playback response? Does a higher clock speed overall mean better performance? Thanks, Lloyd

I currently own an ASUS X205TA. It's fine for what it is, but it has a seriously wimpy processor. So much so that it struggles to load certain web pages without lagging. Gaming is pretty much out of the question. Even 2D games sometimes struggle to run, due to the low clock speed/incredibly slow GPU. Now the whole reason I got this laptop was for school work. I just started college this year, and I figured I'd need a computer to carry around with me to classes. As it turns out, I really haven't used it at all. So the laptop's main selling point for me (8+ hour battery life) was rendered pretty much irrelevant. I'm still looking to get something for as cheaply as possible, since I am trying not to go into too much debt. Now to the real question. I've been looking on Newegg for refurbished laptops, something like this. This computer has a much more powerful processor, more RAM and a better GPU. I recognize that the GPU is still pretty bad, but it pretty much has to be faster than what the ASUS has. How do these 1st gen. Core i5s compare to modern processors? I don't need anything outstanding, I just want to be able to browse the web normally and handle some light applications. I would also like to be able to play 1080p video smoothly (anime .mkv files for the most part). In addition, some light gaming would be cool for when I'm at a friend's house (Minecraft, source games and the like). Thanks in advance!

It seems that nobody, as far as I know, talks about video rendering performance in video cards, does the one with more VRAM (R9 390X 8GB) perform better or is it a bit more complicated than that? (as it usually is) I apologise if my phrases aren't very correct, English is not my main language.

Greetings. About six months ago, I bought a GTX 960, and lately I've had a little trouble while trying to achieve my desired quality settings at 1080p, and was wondering how much extra performance I could get if I overclocked the card. The card is an MSI 2GB model with the Armor X cooler, and it comes factory overclocked. In game, the maximum boost clock is 1316 MHz, which is usually where it stays pegged at. How much extra performance could I get form the card if I put an extra 100/150 MHz on the core and a corresponding amount on the memory? Regards, Aereldor.

Hi, So I had a budget of $1000 to build a PC for Gaming and coding. I spent as much money as i could justify spending on various parts, put it together, installed and updated windows, installed the newest graphics drivers and then started to play various titles (mostly through steam). But I am having a problem, my performance in game is seriously lacking what it should be. For example I can barely get 100fps in CS:GO. My brother has a similar system but with a lower model CPU and GPU and he is getting triple the fps. What is going on? Please hold back from ripping into me for having AMD products. I'm fed up of the childishness. Specs below... Mobo: MSI 970A-G43 PSU : Corsair CX750M 750W CPU: AMD FX-8350 (stock 4.0 and OC 4.3 makes no difference.) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO GPU: XFX AMD R9 390 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB 1600MHz SSD: Kingston 120GB Something or other HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB OS: Windows 10 64bit My monitor is only 60Hz, yes, i know anything over 60fps is wasted with this monitor but i am dignosing my pc not trying to get a better fps.

Hey all, I have an EVGA 980 Ti FTW ACX 2.0. I got an Artic Accelero Xtreme III. I was hoping to install it without having to remove the front plate and dealing with all the little heatsink and epoxy. Unfortunately, I failed, the front plate had 4 points toward the GPU die so the aluminum block of the Xtreme III couldn't make full contact with it. BTW, to those that want to make this work, remove the front plate, stick all necessary heatsink, use 2.5mm spacer for the front and 3.5mm spacer at the back. Ignore the foam block on the back, the smaller connector for the LED has a clip in plastic which will be a pain in the ass to remove. Anyways, so, I'm too much of a pussy to permanently have epoxy on my card and deal with all those heatsink stuff. Should I just return it? Or keep it in case I'm brave enough to perform the full surgery on my 980 Ti? Or get a sander or metal cutter and shape the Xtreme III bracket to make it fit?

Hello there, fellow forum user. Now, stop here for a second. Please. I need your help. Yes, yours! I want or need a new SSD for my good ol´ friend, the desktop pc. I need somewhat in the range of 128 Gigs. But i´m not very good informed about quality and performance of diffrent SSD´s and their producers. So i would really like it, if you can recommend me a SSD in this storage class. Thank you for reading. If you can give me a recommendation or dont, your decision and then you can go on. Bye and thx

So, I get the feeling I know what the answer will be but, for around $250 (US), should I stick with the i5 6600K I have in my build here: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/LordHood77/saved/XzvBD3 Or, should I go for an AMD FX-8370E? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for your time.

Okay, so with a CPU you can at least tell a little bit what the performance is (not completely, IRL tests are the only real way) by looking at it's GHz and Cache and what ever, but how do you tell which motherboard is better? Graphics cards also have speeds and VRAM, but I'm not sure which spec to look at to tell the difference between motherboards.

I currently have been using a Z97M ASRock motherboard and an Intel i7 4790k. I am planning to sell these at $100 and $275 respectively, I have purchased a new i3 4370 for $130 and a new Z87 ECS ATX motherboard for $65 to swap them out for. The main reasons are to get some money back due to temporary paycuts and to save power due to the nearly double TDP that my i7 is using. I am wondering how much of a hit will I see in gaming by switching to this downgraded setup when being pared with my AMD R9 280X and 8GB of 1600MHz RAM?

Hello, i'm thinking about parts for a gaming PC (gonna be running linux), and am not sure which cpu to choose. Should i go for the x4 860k, or the pentium g3258? How about when the two are overclocked? Any help will be greatly appreciated. -MadRussian42
