Wondering if anyone might be able to help - I have updated my ASUS X470-PLUS TUF Gaming to the latest BIOS version (v6024 from v5216) - after successfully booting into Windows for the first time after the update, I noticed MSI Afterburner hadn't kicked in with my desired profile (MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X is my GPU) and was unable to select any profiles or change any options in Afterburner, I restarted my machine, but upon reboot, I got a message stating that Windows needed to be repaired, I tried rebooting several times and it would appear it failed to boot each time because a different key file or driver was missing each time. My PC was running Windows 10 21H1. Fortunately I have a basic laptop (also W10, 21H1( that I use from time to time, and decided to create the Windows 10 installation media creation tool using it, USB was made bootable, time to try the reinstall/repair. Upon plugging in the USB stick to my PC and going to boot menu to select it, I got the familiar black screen with 4 blue windows, before it displayed what I could only describe as a pattern of orange and white lines, with no options to proceed visible. I decided to try again and this time downloaded the ISO so I could use rufus to create the bootable USB, that went smoothly, but once again I was unable to proceed, though this time, it was a blank blue screen that I received, I tried a couple more times, and even redid the bootable USB, but I'm unable to proceed with reinstalling or repairing Windows. As for why I upgraded after sitting on such an old version of the BIOS that worked fine? I got a very lightly used 5800X from a friend (for a very reasonable price) after he decided to upgrade to a 5950X, and I knew I'd need to update BIOS version to get support of the 5000 series. Any help that folks can give would be appreciated Relevant Specs CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Motherboard - ASUS TUF X470-PLUS GAMING RAM - 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (4 x 8GB) GPU - MSI Gaming X RTX 2070 Super M.2 SSD (Boot) Drive - 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe Additional Storage - 2x HDD (10TB & 2TB) & 1x SATA SSD (500GB) PSU - CORSAIR 650W TXm SEMI-MODULAR 80+ GOLD, ULTRA QUIET ----- EDIT: I have tried to install an older version of BIOS to see if it might be an iffy BIOS version update that looks successful but actually isn't - but I've had no luck with it even accepting the CAP file of older BIOS versions.

After using the pc regularly for more than 2 years, I was not using it for about 10 days. When i turned it on today it turned on, everything seemed fine but it crashed after few minutes of being turned on. there was a brief greenscreen couldn't see the error message. When it kept throwing me in bios found out that it wasn't detecting the OS SSD and the SSD is not in boot priority. I tried re-booting after, sometimes it launched windows and showed login screen but crashed after i tried to unlock it I also tried switching slots, ended up with same result. Hello, I currently own a Windows 7 Home OEM license that was updated to Windows 10 Home few years ago. When I was upgrading my computer (including motherboard) I managed to transfer my license and didn't have to buy a new one. On the Microsoft help chat I said my previous motherboard was damaged and they helped me move my license even though it was OEM. Now I'm planning to buy a laptop and I won't need my PC anymore. I was wondering if I could somehow buy a laptop without OS and transfer my license again and then update it to Windows 11 Home. Anyone knows the answer?

Ok I can't seem to figure out for the life of me why my motherboard won't boot from a thumb drive that has windows on it. I've tried everything from starting with usbs booting to disabling everything beside the usbs. And my bios does show a usb is plugged in but just blank screen with the blinking underscore at the top left when it's selected. Any ideas what might be up? All I want to do is install windows to my nvme drive that picked up. cpu: I-7 6700 gpu: Sapphire RX 580 8GB ram: 16 gb 2133Mhz Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Gaming B8

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong section. In advance: I am an absolute non-Linux user (aside from having a non-rooted Android phone) and I am doing this for a friend. My Linux/Raspberry Pi knowledge is extremely limited. A friend wants a small and low power computer running Android so he can run some weird Android apps on it. I was trying to follow this tutorial on how to install Android (Lineage OS) on a RPi3: Everything works fine when I try to do things like the dude in the video does except for one problem. Balena Etcher writes the image on my 32GB SD card, but it only writes the 4 gigs or so that it needs for the OS. The remaining 28GB remain unallocated. When I get to the second video on installing GAppStore, I am always without storage because the 28GB are not allocated. How do I resolve this? Thanks!

Guys my new system will be here within like 5 days, so I need help for selection of an os Specs: I5 2500k 8gb ddr3 ram (single) Gigabyte h61 motherboard 120gb SSD (for os of course) 500gb hdd 400w psu There reason for building this pc is for livestreaming my games on Android through this and to get some playable fps on csgo... I am heavily tempted to get windows 8.1 cuz I have seen some reviews online saying it's even less bloated than windows 7, and almost all games support it(is it true?) .. Ill buy a GPU later, when I have the budget of course...

So, when you have a cloned Windows installation from your source drive, is it as simple as just being able to use that drive clone from when you made the clone and then continue using windows as normal? Is there any gotchas associated with it? Anything worth noting?

I just purchased an ASUS L510 laptop to help for doing school work due to my upcoming move from overseas, back to the US, and I have to ship my desktop PC. That said, i new the 64gb of system storage would not be enough, however, i did not see the smaller letters os 'eMMC" when i purchased it. So, as one does, I already had an nvme m.2 500gb on order, only to open the back of the laptop expecting a normal clone and re boot job, to pause and say, "Self... WTF is this". So, my question is this... well, I have a few but, here's the main one: Can I replace, or otherwise delete the OS from the eMMC drive, and make my cloned nvme M.2 drive be the new OS drive? As stated above, cloned worked great; however, the next question is, I cannot "extend volume" in disk management as is now, or when messing around with other options that remain and are not grayed-out, SO, mmmm... well.. how the hell do i do that part if i can't even select "extend volume"? Thanks for time and help, look forward to getting this set up smoother and faster. Ciao for now!! Regards, Knox Rhuel

Ive got a Gigabyte G5 and because I tried to run Rockstar Games Launcher and it didnt work, I opened msconfig and then accidentally forgot to hide microsofts services, when I tried to boot I couldnt log in. Trying to factory reset which didnt work, I used my Windows Media Player to install a new Windows however now my preset programs such as control centre 3.0 and Fn Keyboard and Fan control arent working any more so I was gonna ask whether theres a way to find the initial operating system from Gigabyte or if someone could send me theirs for me to install it again

I just built a new pc for the holidays (specs below,) and I can't install windows. This is my first build, so it is probably just a rookie mistake. I can open up bios just fine, all storage and memory are showing up, and there are no problems with the CPU or GPU. I made my windows 11 boot key off of the official site's installation media and inserted it into the back of the pc. I put it first in order of booting, and reset the pc so it could download. It just brings up the MSI logo and stays there. I have not overclocked anything yet, I only have one storage in there, and only the mouse, keyboard, and usb are plugged into the pc. I am confident it is not the usb that is the problem, as it does this with or without the usb plugged in, and I've followed the instructions to making it very specifically, many times :/. The boot led comes on in the pc, so the problem lies in the boot process. I have also tried resetting the CMOS, switching the ram, and resetting the pc many times. The USB boot file is formatted correctly, same with the bios settings. I am clueless as to what the problem could be, and I would be glad to get some help so my first build can be successful, thanks. Hello, I recently bought a new NVME (250GB) to function as a boot device, so i can boot faster. I want to move the OS but not the programs or the files in my HDD since they are about 600GB, and obviously won't fit in my new drive. Is there a way of taking just the OS and leave everything else behind? or maybe, can I install a new clean Windows in the new drive and make it recognize my installed programs in the HDD?

Budget (including currency): $2,300 give or take Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CoD MW2, heavily modded Ark, Halo, and Elder Scrolls Online mainly, have several other games but those are the main ones Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://pcpartpicker.com/user/demonicvampiregirl/saved/fcCyFT this is the current WIP for the build I am planning. I have a few questions on specific parts of the build but otherwise, it is done. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/demonicvampiregirl/saved/CxPCzy this is my PC I am currently using. I am not keeping anything from it besides the speakers, mouse, keyboard, monitors and headset listed. I'm going to give it to a family member that needs a better PC. Do note with that PC that the cooler is a place holder, the one mine has comes from the company it was built from, that is the closest I can find as an example. I'm hoping to buy within the next month or two hopefully. 2560 x 1440 resolution is the aim. As for refresh rate, whatever works for whatever game. I try to match the game monitor I have but if I can't, I just lower it as needed. My main questions are about the CPU, cooler/cooling in general, and OS. I'm not looking to change anything else on the build and the RAM being bumped from 32 to 64 is all depending on the other changes, so no need to worry about any other parts of the build. I've had many people tell me I don't need that much storage but between 3 CoD games being nearly 300-400GB combined with Ark being nearly 500GB without mods, I'm going to want extra storage for other games as well. So I'm going to stick with 4TB+ on storage. Anyway, I'm wanting to potentially stream from this PC when I get my internet upgraded, my problem is should I get the i5-13600KF or the i7-13700KF? As this will be done with one PC rather than two, I am a bit concerned on it impacting my performance. I know one is roughly 100 cheaper than the other but it will still fit within budget if I change it to the i7. The other questions I had about these cores was how hot will they get if I am gaming and streaming from the same one? My room is on the hotter end of the house and I do try to keep it under 75F if at all possible, humidity around 45 or below. I also remember seeing that getting a Thermal Grizzly contact frame will help, is this still recommended for those cores? As for the cooling and cooling in general, I have been looking at the Noctua NH-D12, Phanteks Glacier One 360MPH (if they come out with a 420 version, I'll consider it as well), and a Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 A-RGB coolers. I've thought multiple times about going all air cooling this round, but that all depends on how hot I can expect the core to get with streaming. I do recall someone mentioning on reddit that they had found out that their MSI board was oversupplying their CPU with 100 watts and when he changed that, it dropped the temps down and was no longer thermal throttling on cinebench. I know that when I am gaming and/or streaming, I should not expect to see anything close to what cinebench displays as that is meant to test your PCs. I'm just honestly curious on if air cooling is an option or if I should just stick with AIO cooling. I also intend to set the PC over close to the AC, mainly so the heat no longer vents directly onto my legs as with where my current PC is. It will be about 2-3 feet from it at that point. The other issue I had was with the OS, I saw where Windows 10 was discontinued and I do not want an OEM version of the system. So that leaves me with Windows 11, I've been hearing multiple things about how it doesn't result in performance loss on a clean install, then I keep seeing that it does affect performance and something with the drivers either way. I'm so confused on this part anymore. What do I need to watch out for if I cannot find a Windows 10 copy and need to use Windows 11? Sorry if this got long, I'm trying to figure out things and I've got a lot of questions. I always try to give as much information as well. I'll probably have more after, I'm always looking into things when it comes to hardware.

Hi I'm having trouble booting my Windows OS. My pc : msi b350 gaming plus, Ryzen 1500x, AMD 5600xt, 16gb ddr4 and 500gb Samsung evo plus m.2 NVME. I've tried a lot of solutions as when I plug in my USB containing W10 and make it priority in boot order, it will appear with the Windows x64 bit or x32bit, when selecting one it will just restart the pc and go in a loop. I've tried safe boot and they flash the windows logo for a second then turns off again. I'm currently running Ubuntu and it's running perfectly normal so any help would be REALLY appreciated.

The last time I built a pc from scratch it was advised to pair a small ssd as a boot drive with your large HDD. With the current state of ssd's outside of cost savings is that still a good idea?

Budget (including currency): N/A CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS media server Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hey everyone! So I'm looking to build/setup a NAS media server for my personal home use, and I just wanted to fish for some opinions on the best configurations and setups. So far I've decided on using RAID10, for larger drive capacity and redundancy. I know that's not a true backup along the "3, 2, 1" route, but it's not going to be important data, just media files, and I'm going to maintain a directory list so I can just reacquire the data in the event a catastrophic loss occurs. But I'm getting hung up on what I should use when it comes to OS, type of enclosure, etc. . I've heard a lot of good things about TrueNAS, and Unraid, so I'm going to do a deeper dive on those after posting this. I want it to be always on, so NAS enclosures are attractive in that way. But I also want a high degree of customizability, and also a much higher number of drive bays than most NAS enclosures support. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My younger brother found a video on Youtube that shows a free windows activation method that uses the command line. I've never seen this done this way before. Has anyone done something similar? It seems to be pretty sketchy to me. Link to the video:
