A total noob question with PSUs. On the MB that I have there is a 8 + 4 pin CPU power connector. Am I right in saying I can plug the 2 cables (with the MB side going into the MB and the PSU side going into the PSU) in any of the 6 + 2 PCIE & 4 + 4 CPU that is on this pic I have attached? Sorry if this is confusing but I don't have any other way of explaining Thanks in advance

Hello everyone, I ordered the Razer chroma addressable rgb controller today after waiting over a year for stock to be available for the Razer hdk kit and never was able to buy it. Can anyone help me find ARGB light strips that I'll be able to just plug into this controller i found led strips that you have to cut and solder but I can't do all that. It says i need 3 pin 5v addressable connector and also suppose to work with these companies. WORKS BEST WITH ARGB COMPONENTS FROM MANUFACTURERS SUCH AS ENERMAX • LIAN LI • PHANTEKS • SILVERSTONE • TEAMGROUP • THERMALTAKE • COOLER MASTER • ANTEC • MSI • FRACTAL DESIGN • GAMEMAX • ROSEWILL Please help in just trying to make the inside of my case light up and sync to my Razer synapse with all my other rgb stuff i have the huntsman eliete keyboard, chroma speakers, the huge rgb mouse pad, mouse and kraken ultimate gaming edition headset all the lights sync so now I'm trying to get my case to match thanks in advance

I'm hoping someone can answer a newbie question for me. I'm planning to do dual pc streaming setup, and I've decided on a Ryzen 7 3700x for my streaming pc. My question is, for a dedicated streaming pc, will the stock cpu cooler be sufficient or should I go with a beefier aftermarket cooler? Still new to all of this, so I get lost pretty easily on what is necessity and what is overkill.

I have never built a computer and have very little confidence in playing around inside one. I did once replace a hard drive and ram. I am looking for 2 things so please clarify what is info for what. In both cases I want them future proofed with idea of being able to upgrade over next couple years as funds become available or needs change. AMD B550 board for both? Budget (including currency): Depends, maybe $500, then $1000+ Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: See build requirements. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): First pc is the one I want to do to test my understanding of building, would like closer to the $500 range. This PC would be just for the basics, mainly used as a work/internet browser pc for my store and play Rimworld/worldofwarships when i am stuck at it but no customers. up grade ability would be more just for storage. No monitor required as i will use one of my existing ones. This pc is basically to replace a systems i already have into one that is new and does not have parts that are wearing out/off the shelf build issues. I might also just turn around and sell this system for school use local if i feel comfortable with how i did. Wifi not required but would be nice as back up. Multiple USB ports required. Ram to be 2 4gb sticks. Hard drive needs are probably not more than 1TB for this system. Second/Third PC. This is to replace my current gaming/main office system. This is the system that ill be slowly upgrading over the next couple years. I am thinking a B550 motherboard *but dont know what one. Both the second and third pc are going to be basically identical other than the third pc needs to have very good dust protection/cooling as its in a place that gets very hot/dusty and will probably be built at the very end after all upgrades have been figured out and tested out on second PC. 3 monitor layout (second PC will use 3, third will only be 1) Monitor requirement is 144hz 24-27". This pcs will be for gaming/streaming/video editing. I want to get into a B550 or x750 motherboard with idea of getting lower end cpu and then latter down road upgrade to better CPU with same motherboard. I also dont want to have to change out the power supply at all. Hard line connection no wifi. Games/programs: Rimeworld, World of Warships, World of Tanks, Other strategy games like Dawn of War or Total War (almost no FPS), League of Legends. Word processing/spreadsheets/accounting programs and other E commerce related programs. Streaming on Twitch/youtube with bad upload (basically 1 up) speeds so recording then upload? or something (dont really know this part ether). discord/TSeamspeak . The ability to run 4+ programs at same time. Cooling/Sound: needs to be able to handle 90+ F degree rooms while also maintaining some sound level to be able to stream/communicate on discord/TSeamspeak

While working on my bachelor's degree I recently took a course for the core 1 exam of CompTIA's A+ certification. While searching YouTube for practical use of computer components I discovered the Linus Tech Tip channel. Instantly hooked! Months later I went on and failed my first attempt at the 1001 Core 1 exam for A+. No worries, just studying up and getting back on that horse and pushing forward. However, after studying for that exam and watching many of the LTT videos, I’m very interested in building my own PC. ALL Linus’ builds are gaming rigs. I’m not a gamer really but I’m very interested in trying to build my own rig. Streaming videos and everyday office work would be the computer’s main use but I’d like to have the ability to play some causal gaming and stream 4K down the road. Anyways, I just wanted to drop in and say hi to the community and get some opinions and advise on building my own rig.

So I'm looking to move everything from OVH to an at home server, currently I run my website (avg 100 people a day) 3 Garry's mod servers, 5minecraft servers that are linked together and my teamspeak. Ive been looking for a server machine that could handle all of this and much more. But I have no clue where to buy or even find one for a good price. My price range is whatever and I plan to use the server for a future business, so I would like it to last. My current server specs are Processor: Intel 2x Xeon Silver 4214 - 24 c / 48 t - 2.2 GHz / 3.2 GHz Memory: 96GB DDR4-3200 Disk: 2x960GB SSD NVMe Soft RAID + 2x6TB HDD SATA Soft RAID Public network: 1 Gbps Private network: 2 Gbps Again I would like something that can handle my load and more. Thanks for the help! Also don't worry about my at home internet, as I have fiber optics with unlim bandwidth so it should handle it fine.

Hello clever people and fellow LTT fans! I recently upgraded to a wired home network after years of terrible WiFi and could not be happier, it was a great decision. I'm a life-long PC and computing enthusiast, unfortunately my skills are restricted to custom watercooling and MS excel formulas. Oh and now running ethernet cable through walls it seems. I was therefore pretty pleased that after getting the wiring setup through the walls - it was simply a job of plugging the cat6 cables into the ethernet ports on my machines, plugging the other ends into the router, sharing the drives and hey presto - a home network with consistent speeds double what I was getting on WiFi. Beautiful. I have 4 machines in my house and have them connected directly to the routers 4 ethernet ports (sans a switch); PC #01 - HTPC / File Server PC #02 - Gaming System PC #03 - Work System PC #04 - Arcade Cabinet All 4 machines have no issues individually when it comes to network or internet connectivity, the issue is PC #02 is only visible to itself on the network, I cannot see it or access it from any other machine. I can access all other machines from each other without issue. I do try and address my technical issues myself first before asking for help, however I either can't find the exact FAQ or similar example I'm looking for or it's simply beyond my capability. Either way I'm stuck. Below is what I've done so far : Changing all cables around Resetting router / modem Upgraded firmware Password protected / unprotected drive sharing Played with SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing settings across the machines (at one point I actually lost visibility of multiple machines playing with this feature but always restored back). The only other thing I can add is that the machines are not all running the same version of Windows - PC's 1, 3 and 4 are all Windows 10 Pro Build 18363 where as PC 2 - the PC I'm having the issue with is running Windows 10 Home Build 18362. I noticed when playing with the CIFS File Sharing settings that by default, PC's 1, 3 and 4 are running SMB Direct where PC 2 is running SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. Guessed this was related to Windows version but not sure it makes a difference. Any support that can be rendered will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, The Gas Man

Evening All First post on forums but hope to join in much more now finally joined So I have a question if anyone is able to help would be really appreciated. I am looking for a solution to my audio I currently have a crap pair of tesco speakers (£10 wee jobs) that plug into my audio out I used to split this with a 2.5mm splitter got a new headset and this caused issues with the speakers being half volume. I am in the process of moving and will happen to gain some nice new build into the roof speakers in new setup but zero idea how to go about having these setup to output my PC audio. The speakers terminate at standard speaker wire out the wall but that is it no other equipment just speakers. If anyone is able to advise how I could go about getting it so I can have my headset and speakers (Including or excluding current cheap set) be the audio for my PC would assume I need to buy a bit of kit to be the middle man but again zero knowledge what i would even be aiming for. Budget is rather limited and I've been told my hearing is crap so the idea of paying more for crisp sound isn't a big deal for me just need it to be able to plug and play and nice and loud. Any help would be amazing. and hopefully nice to meet everyone.

Hello everyone, i hope it's the right place to post this. So i just bought an Asus Vivobook 15 with : 120g ssd Amd ryzen 3 3200 with raedon vega mobile Gfx 2.6Ghz processor A vega graphics card 8gb ram with 5.95 useable. I am very clueless when it comes to computer, parts, what they're used for and ultimately if they're good or not. I just took those info from system specs in windows search bar. So my question is, should i wait to learn how to build my first build and afford it too, or should i try to upgrade the graphics card, ram and stuff of my asus to be able to play with at least stable fps in games ? The one that interests me most is Rocketleague, with my current specs, even after i tweaked the game configuration file to minimize all the visiual effects in order to have stable fps it just doesn't cut it, i get frames drop and screen freezes that last well over a second, which is totally unplayable for a fast paced game, in online ranked at least. So if you could help me pic a path that'd be great. Peace !

Hello! I need some help and explanation how to connect 4 case fans and 2 fans on aio radiator all 120mm fans so i can sync lighting with the rest of my system. My motherboard is gigabyte aorus master x570. I need help with explaining how and where to connect cables to sync all the fans with my motherboard since the fans i want to buy (link below) come with RF controller and RF reciever. Can i connect fans to the reciever and then from reciever to motherboard or do i have to connect fans directly to motherboard header with splitter cables? Also same question about pwm... since fans are argb pwm fans. All the help i can get is appriciated! https://www.overclockers.co.uk/alpenfohn-wing-boost-3-120mm-addressable-rgb-high-speed-pwm-fan-triple-fg-02j-al.html .

Looking for some help with the components, anything that can be changed to make it better/cheaper. I've looked at some things and made a list in pc part picker. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dxtxWb The use will just be for storing fille's (pictures, movies, etc.) for everybody in my home(4pc's). Looking for it to be cheapish but have some beter preformance than a standard nas. I've got some spare hd's at home so i wont have to buy any.

Hey guys, I want to do some modifications on my aluminium PC case, so I bought a dremel since I know it can cut and make holes without needing more tools while being cheap. As the title say, I'm a total noob and have no experience with a dremel, but I do like a challenge. I watched YouTube videos about dremels, so I think I'll be able to do what I need, but I'm still a freaking noob that didn't used power tools since high school 20 years ago. So... I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything... This is the case that I have. I knew it wasn't optimised for airflow and stuff would get hotter than my older ATX tower, but I really wanted something small because I was tired of having an ATX tower that were >50% empty space. The thing that I didn't consider is that my GPU is taller than the normal size and thus totally prevent air circulation in the case, causing heat built up. It took me a while to notice it because, I don't game a lot, so my GPU sit mostly idle. I got more fans, but now the poor design of the fan mounts (look at the stupid "abstract design" of the top fan...) make it impossible to have a normal fan noise without an annoying high-pitch whining. To be clear: I don't mind most fan noise, but I can't stand high-pitch whining, it's like nails on a blackboard to me. Sadly, I noticed this problem months after the purchase, so I can't return the case, and anyway, the case looks perfectly like I want (ignoring the top fan ugly design), so I want to keep it and just jerryrig a fix. It might not look pretty up close after the modifications, but it will still look nice sitting on my desk. My goal is to remove those lines on the top fan hole and use a basic fan filter instead and I will probably fully open the back and bottom fan mounts because those lines are way too much restrictive for the airflow and probably don't help the noise. This is the dremel that I got, the LCD display might be a gimmick, but I noticed that it is important to use the correct speed depending what you do and which accessory you use, so since the LCD show the actual rotation speed (36 = 36 000 rpm) it should help a lot. It's supposed to be a 200W motor, so it should be enough (many videos were recommending to avoid cordless dremels because it lacked power). I even bought Dremel branded cutting discs made for cutting metal, just to be sure of the quality (It was only few bucks and I guess Dremel is a good brand since people refer to rotary tools as dremel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). I also have protection glasses, gloves and a mask for safety, obviously. So, as I said, I watched few videos (like this one), so I know what to do, the use of tape and how to hold the dremel, finish with filling tools etc. Since the case is all aluminum (1/8" or 3.2mm of thickness) instead of steel, it should be easy to cut as long I don't go too fast and make sure it doesn't melt. But, is there anything else that I might have missed or tips that I should know? --- my post was starting to be too long since I had nothing to do else while waiting for my pizza delivery, so I kept the fluff if you want to read more details and why I bought this case: I was once a PC enthusiast and gamer with a gamer overclocked PC (In the Athlon 64 days, I had a DFI LanParty mobo with UV bling bling), but now I'm a graphic designer who suffer from wrist pain (apparently not carpal tunnel syndrome says my doc everytime I ask him). So gaming is not a priority anymore and I built my new PC last year with that in mind, I wanted something that looks nice, but didn't want to care about overclocking and stuff. That's why I bought a i5 8500 (wasn't able to find a non-F 9400 and I wanted the iGPU since this PC will go in a slim PC case when I'll upgrade to a Ryzen sometime, hence the low profile cooler). I wanted something small because I was tired to have big ATX cases that had more empty and unused space than a bag of chips and I really wanted a mATX board because, I knew that I would require more than 16GB (and I did, I'm now at 32GB) so I opted for a Golden Field M3S which fit perfectly my style (a rebel graphic designer that live in a world dominated by Apple and a sea of rounded aluminium cases). Everything was going smoothly, despite having a case that lack cooling abilities, it did what I wanted: being silent in idle/productivity work. I don't really care about some noise when I game because I exclusively use headphones. However, because of the whole "global situation" right now, I end up playing games way more often that I was before, and since I play open-world / story driven games, I might play for long sessions. But despite never getting any thermal throttling so far, my PC does get freakingly hot - it's an aluminium case, so it literally get hot to the touch - when I game and I worry about shorting the life of my components due to the heat and with summer coming around, I might finally get some thermal throttling. I've bought more fans and changed the PWM curves, but the noise now hit a very annoying whining because of the way the case fan mounts are designed. So, I told myself that I could learn something different and buy a rotary tool to do some modifications... Edit: my full PC specs are on my profile, I thought that it would show on the side...

Budget (including currency): 3500 Country: America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming/ Streaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):I am going for a black and white rgb build. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/xStorm33/saved/dkkrrH This is what I have, but have some questions on the gpu. Could someone help me understand a bit more and help me choose one for my build?

Let me start by saying thank you to any and all who provide advice, I appreciate your time. Budget (including currency): USD 1,600 Country: USA Games: Smite, FPS style games and other various free and paid games in the future. Programs or workloads: The goal is to play games on high settings and record for YouTube. Potential streaming in the future. Not sure what software I will use. Other details: I want to see about building the PC from parts although I have no experience doing that. I’ll probably get some hate for this, but I was entertaining the idea of going pre-build options whilst doing research. For fun while researching I was able to build an Alienware Aurora R10 with the following for $1,599. From researching I believe the most important components needed for recording are the CPU, RAM and Storage. The main components I was looking at buying minimum (and someone correct me if I am ignorant) are AMD R7 3700X, GeForce RTX 2070 Super, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD / 1 TB HDD. The budget indicated would be for the desktop only. I also plan on getting two monitors, a keyboard and mouse (any recommendations please). Hopefully for a steal during memorial weekend. I don’t want to spend more than $100 per monitor and keyboard mouse combo. I don’t really have knowledge on what refresh rate to play on or record on, etc. As you can see I’m a little all over the place. Any and all help is very appreciated. Much love, zChase

I already asked this question on r/undervolt subreddit. But I haven't got any proper answer. I know what undervolting is and the other basic stuff. I undervolted my CPU with Intel XTU. It was straightforward (just setting the voltage offset). I wanted to do the same with my GPU. Most of the guides I read/tutorials I watched were using MSI Afterburner. The process (as you may already know) involves adjusting a curve on a graph. Nobody explained how it would affect the voltage of the GPU. X was voltage and Y was frequency. I understand it represents the GPU will run at "y" MHz at "x" mV and x is variable at a given time. But I always thought that a constant voltage is applied through a digital circuit. That's how I understood CPU undervolting. It always runs at X volts with variable frequency at a given time and adjusted it run at (X - a) volts to reduce the heat output. This is why GPU undervolt doesn't make sense to me. OK. Let's say that the circuit is running at variable voltage. But the process only involves changing the frequency (Y) value. How does it change the overall voltage applied through the GPU? Doesn't changing the frequency affect the performance of the GPU? Is there anything that I'm missing about basic electronic physics? Also Is there any "one-click" undervolt tool for GPUs, like XTU? All I had to do there was set the offset. Thanks in advance.

Budget (including currency): $1800 Country: USA (California) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: : Various games from new games coming out to old ones already out. (I know battlefield will be a potential game he gets as well as maybe like the Forza horizon, Dirt 5 etc) Other details: So I made a thread and got good feedback when my buddy was willing to spend $1350 on a new rig. His price has since changed to $1800 and id like to know some ideas maybe even just some upgrades of the original ideas I got from the previous thread listed HERE. He's starting from scratch into the PC world so I'm trying to get him setup. He needs everything including mouse and keyboard (Preferably mechanical leave out of build if no suggestion) He would like to have 2 monitors now. I'm looking to get him setup to go decently into the future with this build. As I know AMD has stepped up their game and the Intel fanboy in me wants to build Intel, I know that's not cost effective or even better at this point. Lastly, We live nearby a Fry's electronics. Whatever list may be shared would it potentially be cheaper to walk in there and grab everything or what's the experience on that? Thank you for the help in advance.

Hi, I'm planning on upgrading an old PC and I have this Corsair Obsidian 450D but it's missing the front magnetic dust filter/cover. (picture attached) https://imgur.com/a/iT5Tqdh I'd appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions for what I could do for a replacement/ where I could get one. I live in Mauritius so its gonna be pretty hard getting a direct replacement from my area. I could get my cousin to mail me something from the UK, so if anyone knows any stores from there, that would help. First post. Started watching Linus a few weeks ago and I thought I'd check out the forum. Thanks in advance guys! EDIT: DIY suggestions are also welcome!

plex Plex & Qnap backups (Need a white knight)
James Furie posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Hi Folks Need some help here. I want to make a backup of The FULL Plex database which includes images, metadata, Info ect. (Actual Media has several backups). As I understand it Plex does not update the files directly, Everything is held in the database and if this is corrupted you are basically SOL. How can I backup the full Database to and external SSD drive from my Qnap TS-451+ to protect the hours of work about to be poured in to fixing/updating data? Full Disclosure here, The NAS just works and very happy with it, QTS is based on Linux i think but again it works Windows/DOS guy from 3.11 & 6.22 Respectively But Linux it's all as clear as mud and not a tinkerer (maybe getting to old?) So I would need, if you can help and would be kind enough detailed "A to B to C" instructions that would be spiffing indeed. I have tried using help but again OLD as the kids say is there an app for that? Thanks for your time and any assistance you can offer. James (LLAP)- 1 reply

I was trying to put together a new computer for a friend, got everything hooked up, When I tried to turn it on and boot to the bios for the initial post, It never shows a splash screen or a prompt to enter the bio, but instead shows a sold black Screen with an unblinking underscore on it _ Is it in need of a bios update? How would I do that without a spare CPU to plug in?
