I am a 3D hobbyist and more or less everyday user and for my needs, which do you think would be better - Manjaro or Neon? I'm talking about performance, graphics drivers, and the like. Second thing is that I've heard Manjaro breaks at one point, as if it is a certainty. Considering the fact that I'm a noob, how recommendable would Manjaro be and is it true that it will break? And, do you have the option of not updating? P.S. I know a little about Timeshift, but I'm not too keen on that if using Manjaro necessitates Timeshift.

Hi, Today I was able to install Manjaro with a 2gb USB (with manjaro-architect). It works just fine installed on /dev/sda2 but when running this lsblk I get this output NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT sda ├─sda1 ntfs System Reserved 5074471874470068 └─sda2 ext4 1.0 17fa6b25-20bc-4d9e-8fd9-3ae9cf202128 836.4G 4% / The ntfs partition with system reserved is maybe some windows leftover not deleted by manjaro ? how am I gonna remove it from there and from grub ?

So I've had Manjaro installed on my Thinkpad T420 for a little over 2 weeks now and was wondering if there's any graphical frontend for adjusting trackpoint speed. I know it's doable through the terminal, but sometimes that can be a pain. Anybody know of a package I can install, or something I can run to have the trackpoint sensitivity appear in the KDE Settings Manager, or as a standalone application?

Hi everyone, I've recently wondered about trying out Linux but don't have a lot of prior experience the closest I've really come to Linux was setting up a basic server on raspberry PI along time ago, I am choosing to use a KDE based manjaro distro for my initial introduction into Linux but I don't want to replace my windows install just in case I'm in other my head and need my windows install back, I tried to dual boot with Linux mint before and I messed it up so the Initial boot menu didn't offer anything so I basically bricked my PC (Noob mistake), One thing that I would really like to do is run both at the same time allowing me to live swap between Linux and windows I have a memory of someone showing me a mac running windows that could swap between mac os and windows on the fly, Is this possible with Linux manjaro and windows 10? I have 8GB of ram and an 8 Core at my disposal for this, If not whats the best boot loader that isn't gonna brick my PC. Another thing I have an SSD and an unused 2TB HDD in my PC and I've heard that windows and Linux can cause conflicts when present on the same DISK, Is there any truth to this or is this just a myth? Thanks for any input in advance ~LazyChaz

I'm at a point where I'm done with Windows, even just for gaming. I currently dual boot Windows with Ubuntu but I want to move to a different distro. I tried 4 via USB, Manjaro XFCE, Fedora, Pop!OS, and Manjaro Gnome. I was gonna try two more but they either were gonna take forever to download or didn't let me try it through my flash drive (Deepin and CentOS). The only one I didn't care for was Manjaro XFCE (this might be down to me not use to it, I just really like the Gnome layout). Out of the remaining ones (unless you have other suggestions) which would you recommend for Gaming and Productivity? I play primarily on Steam but also use pretty much all other launchers (I grab any free game I can get no matter the launcher) including Battle.net, Epic, Ubisoft, and Bethesda. I use DaVinci Resolve for video editing and I dabble in Inkscape, Gimp, and Darktable.

Hello, I have been trying to run linux on an old iMac with varying level's of success. I can run Ubuntu, but the screen tearing is horrendous. I've been trying to boot Manjaro, but it either black screens partway through boot, or hangs indefinitely during boot. I have also tried installing macOS but nothing seems to work and paying $20 buck for the backup CD's is a ripoff. The hard was completely dead, hence installing OS's From what I've read already, the issue seems to be graphics drivers. I've tried using proprietary drivers but they black screen. I've also tried nomodeset, but then it hangs. On Ubuntu, AMD drivers failed to boot. I know this is pretty ambiguous, but I just want an operating system that can run a desktop environment without serious issues like screen tearing. Specs for refference: 27" iMac late 2009 i7 860 amd HD 4850 8GB RAM

I set up QEMU for the first time today and everything was working mostly fine. However, whenever I boot into Windows 10 pro there is only 1 core. This is despite the fact that I set it as 1 Socket 4 cores. Trying to runvirsh setvcpus Windows 6 --current results in a domain error and virsh list --all results in nothing.

Hi, newbie Manjaro Gnome user of 6 days here. I'm trying to get Korean Hangul input to work on my laptop, but I'm having some trouble as I'm struggling with following and uderstanding guides. I thought at first that it would be as simple as adding Korean (non-101/104) into input sources but it turned out to not be that simple. I have however found a guide on how to install and set up Korean Hangul on Arch Linux but as mentioned, I'm too small-brained to understand how to go about it. Can someone assist me on how to get Hangul Korean input working? Guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Localization/Korean I'm running Manjaro Gnome on my laptop, and would like Korean input as I study Korean and being able to type in Korean on my laptop would help in the digital portion of my studies.

(SOLVED: 09-08-2019) Hey there everyone! Hopefully all of you are fine. I heard that LTT Forum is the best place to ask the weirdest and hardest questions till now. So lemme just ask this out. I installed a linux based OS called Manjaro a month ago or so. I completely removed Windows at that time by hitting 'Remove present OS and Install Manjaro'. But now, as it seems to me that my choice was a bad option due to the code based program installation, can't uninstall installed apps and many more stuff. Plus my mom needs windows for her own work. So I need to install Windows. But I tried to install and found that I can't install it like the usual as my hard dish format was changed while installing linux. Now, i am in a blank spot where I really don't know what to do! So can anyone here help me out in how to Install windows again on my laptop? TIA

Note: This tutorial was made for Manjaro and exact steps may differ slightly depending on your distribution. Requirements: Latest graphics driver Installing Lutris Step 1: Open terminal and type sudo pacman -S lutris Installing Crysis Step 1: Run Lutris. Step 2: Search for Crysis using the search box in Lutris (Don't forget to click Search Lutris.net). Step 3: Click install and select the GOG version of the game. Step 4: Sign into your GOG account and continue with the installation until finished. You may get an error after the installation has completed but you can ignore it and click finish in the GOG installer. Alternatively you can run the setup.exe for the GOG installer manually if you don't want to use the scripted install however I recommend this only to more experienced users. Post Crysis Installation Now it's time to configure crysis to run correctly. There are a few things we need to do to have the optimal experience. Step 1: Configure Crysis via Lutris by clicking on the gear under play on the right hand side. Step 2: Under "Game options" make sure the executable is Crysis.exe in the Bin64 folder. Step 3: In "Game options" add the line -dx10 to the arguments box to force the game to run in DX10 mode. Step 4: Under "Runner options" make sure you are using a compatible version of wine. I used lutris-4.13-x86_64. Step 5: Enable DXVK by ticking the "Enable DXVK" option under "Runner options" and select the latest version of DXVK. Step 6: With Crysis selected in your Lutris library scroll down on the right side and click "Winetricks". Step 7: When the Winetricks window pops up select "Select the default wineprefix" and click ok. Step 8: Select "Install a Windows DLL or component" and click ok. Step 9: When the list of components shows up look for "d3dcompiler_43" and "d3dx10_43". Step 10: Click ok and close Winetricks. Profit Assuming you didn't change anything else and have a properly installed game the game should now run perfectly in DX10 mode with no graphical issues such as broken shadows and water. Notes You absolutely need to check "d3dx10_43" or Crysis will not render correctly regardless of the version of Wine or DXVK you use. Many guides online don't have this information making DX10 mode not work. Also when launching the game you should change the launcher executable from the GOG launcher to the 64-Bit binary to ensure the game launches correctly into 64-Bit mode as it's more stable than 32-Bit. You should also be using the proprietary driver for your GPU. I have an Nvidia GPU and I'm using driver version 430.xx. To install the latest Nvidia driver under Manjaro simply run the following command sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300. Bonus Tip If you add a shader cache location you can bypass the hard set Nvidia GL cache limit of 128MB. This will help the game run smoother without as much hitching and stuttering. The reason why you might want to do this is because Nvidia removes previously compiled shaders when the 128MB cache becomes full. To add a shader cache simply add __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE to the environment variables section under system options and set the value to 1. You also need to add __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH and set a path to where the shader cache will be located. I recommend the fastest storage you have for a shader cache as this will ensure you benefit the most from having a separate shader cache. In addition to a shader cache you can also enable esync to gain a few extra FPS. Keep in mind you will need a compatible version of wine and things may not always work. Example Path: /mnt/nvmessd/lutris/shadercache/crysis Correctly rendered graphics

I'm not sure about the category Computer Hardware or Linux. Hi there I experienced some problems with the manjaro graphics driver. I could not use my hdmi port, not my mini-dp port; but i solved the problem by doing the following manipulation: go to manjaro setting manager hardware configuration uninstall all bumblebee drivers for [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile] install video-nvidia-390xx reboot But, a new problem has appeared : When I plugged it (hdmi and mini-dp) I have the image on both screens but not on the built-in screens (it's ok because I close the laptop in this configuration). But when I unplug all the additional screens the built-in screens are black. I feel that the driver does not support the built-in screen. Any idea ?

Hello I am trying to dual boot Windows 10 and Manjaro. I have dual booted before with a lot of distros like Ubuntu arch rhel etc how ever Manjaro just does not seem to work when ever I install it and reboot it is booting straight to windows instead of showing me the grub loader to select a OS I have followed the following tutorial as well : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mddQE-g_5mk

Morning, people. So, here I stand with manjaro, pop os and elementary looking at me, waiting for my decision... which I can't make yet... So I need your guys' help: How's elementary OS for web development? I know about the packages, that it "feeds" on Ubuntu repositories, but how about it for coding? When searching on YT I see a lot of people using pure Ubuntu, some others with manjaro(that I heard was more on the bleeding side of the bleeding edge), but I don't know which to pick. I need stability, not too high of resource demanding (i got a i3 3240 with 8 gb of DDR3 and a kingston SSD, but want that baby flying on compilation). My main focus right now is Javascript (with node and vscode), but soon enough college will require Java and C. Can you guys help me out? What distro would be good for a guy learning to code?

Hello, I'm trying to do the "Hackintosh" VM thing with VMM like Linus and Anthony did in their video. I've followed literally every one of the steps in that video. However, I hit a roadblock when I had to "define" the VM. when I typed in the command "virsh define hackintosh.xml" it comes back saying "Domain MacOS (which is what I named it) defined from hacking.xml (also just what I called it)". This is where my issue arises. In Virual Machine Manager I can't see the VM that should have been created. Any help? I've tried: Reinstalling VMM undefining my other VM that should've been created Redownloading the Hackintosh-KVM files from the github. Remade the osx_amd_i440fx.xml - deleting the stuff left over from the author. Literally watched LTT's video like 15 times total EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm running an Ryzen 5 2500 and a RX 580.

Hi Everybody, I recently installed Manjaro on my PC and I love it. I am trying to use RazerGenie on top of OpenRazer to control my Keyboard, Mouse and Mousepad. When I open RazerGenie it says "The daemon didn't detect a device that is connected. Linux detected connected devices but the daemon didn't. This could be either due to a permission problem or a kernel module problem." I'm sure this is pretty simple to fix however I am new to Manjaro and would love some help. Thanks in advance!

Iam looking to do a Ryzen system maybe a 2700x and was wondering what GPUs to pair with it if anyone had any suggestions. I'm a programmer and will only really be doing X code and swift sort of stuff possibly some web based stuff. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, I am trying to boot into Manjaro-Budgie 18.0.4 on a HP Envy 17t-3000 CTO with the i7 2670QM. The AMD 6770 gpu on the motherboard is toast but I am able to use windows 7 or 10 with the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics/basic VGA drivers from windows update as long as I don't try to install the AMD drivers and disable the card via device manager. If I try and boot into any Linux (via USB stick) distro, it starts installing and gives me a black screen on everything except for non free drivers in Manjaro budgie (tried the Ubuntu LTS current build, elementary OS, and a few different version of Manjaro) where it says I reach graphical interface in the boot loader text but never takes me to an actual GUI. I tried doing CTLR+ALT+F3 and doing "startx" but it gives me an error and give up code. I just want to know how to disable the AMD card or force the Intel dedicated graphics to be the primary GPU through the CTLR+ALT+F3 command line. I did a bunch of googling and almost everything I find is related to bumblebee and nvidia optimus stuff. I found someone with a similar situation and his solution was to physically remove the power delivery for the GPU on the motherboard and I don't understand how power delivery works to verify that that would be safe for this laptop. Thanks to anyone who takes time or is willing to lend their knowledge to this noob. Have a Happy Easter everyone.

This topic is kinda related - It was suggested that I could try using Manjaro and decided to give it a go and downloaded the KDE plasma version. I installed it on a totally separate drive to PopOs, next to a WIn10 partition. Once installed, I then followed the instructions on the Arch site to get the AMD drivers installed, update mesa and try to get Vulkan running. I installed all these files from the arch site and then the Linux core via the instructions. When It asked me to "Specify the correct module order" I remembered Nayr438's comments and ran the " sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf " commands and inserted data & saved and then the " sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf ". In here there were no modules set, so I added amdgpu & Radeon, saved and exited. When I ran " sudo mkinitcpio -p linux54 " The process started but advised there were errors to do with the amdgpu & radeon modules. I guess I did something wrong ? I rebooted and and prayed Vulkan might run, loaded steam and of course it wouldnt So, I headed into the package manager ( think its called that ) and proceeded to install everything that I thought might have something to do with vulkan and amd drivers ... Yes I cried when I saw the amdgpu experimental install ? I thought it would be best just to stick with the normal amd drivers for the mo and installed all of these - I rebooted and it was still the same I looked on some other sites for pointers but just became a bit lost again to be honest and then went into random install anything mad man mode before I really cocked it up ? I did manage to take these SS tho, so hopefully they are helpful - I did however manage to update the manjaro grub so that I had the boot choice option pop up instead of it just loading into Win10 straight away( they share the same drive ), so not a complete waste of time After all that .... I calmed down and rebooted, Vulkan was still the same, but I finally found out how to check what driver was loading and could see that it was the Radeon one So I headed back into the package manager and decided to install the amdgpu-experimental package ... when this ran all these windows came up ( im screenshotting everything by now btw ) and then I got these error messages .. I Kinda determined that this ment it didn't work, but thought I better give it a reboot just in case. Thats when I received that Horrible black screen of nothing when I rebooted back into Manjaro .... It just would not load I still had PopOs & Win10 tho and proceeded to try and boot Pop ... This ended in a grey screen, I wouldn't let me log in or get into the Alt+F2 or F3 thing either. Most My files were on Pop so, I tried to do a refresh install and whereas it brought up the login screen this time, it would not let me log in and ended up in a cycle of accept and reset login screen every time I entered my psw ? I had to do a fresh re-install for the 10th time in the end ? (I got my copy of home directory 1st tho using the live usb - phew) I also did try using the recovery drives for both Os`s, but apart from fixing the Grub and packages, im a bit lost as what to look for when editing the grub ... I see the word splash, but have no idea what to type or remove or even how to save it afterwards still learning. Win10 btw somehow survived all this and still works ... the irony ugh. If you've made it this far well done you must either really like solving issues or fixing Linux. I have a few questions moving forwards .. 1 - How did Installing a graphic driver on one system bork both Os's into not being able to boot? I made sure they both had their own swap partitions and they were on separate drives too? 2 - Two different Os's have both given me the black screen of doom upon boot, PopOs Gnome & Manjaro KDE. Am I doing the correct things to ensure im giving it the best chance to work? As far as im aware the only things I need to update as the mesa drivers and setup dxvk/d9vk, install the amdgpu drivers and set a few grub/kernel commands and it should work. Am I missing anything else I need to install? 3 - Can someone link a video of really basic guide on how to edit the grub thing during boot or via a live usb properly .... I really should be learning how to do this so that I dont have to keep on re-installing my Os, but the guides Ive found tend to over confuse the explanation and I get lost again Thx for reading again if u made it this far & soz for the mass of pictures, im dyslexic and pics inform a lot better imo
