So, I just saw this and thought it was hilarious. I don't think I have ever seen ifixit go so hard on shoddy product. Forgive the thread title, I messed it up calling airpods, earpods. But it IS Apple after all and I'm not particularly versed in the iProduct universe.

After running this macbook on powerchord only because of an broken battery i finaly decided to buy a new battery but now when it arrived it doesn't work correctly. The battery simply refuses to charge and says "Replace now, Not charging 8%". Things i've tried: SMC Reset PRAM Reset Booting into Linux Mint and it said "Charging - Fully charged 8%" (It wasn't charging) Unplugging AC while OS was on and it just simply died with no difference next boot. Macbok pro 2011 (I think) Battery: battery A1322 (I know it's compatible) (Same as the original broken one)

I have fully installed Hackintosh Yosemite 10.10.1 onto my PC but it is very slow and keeps on flashing when I am not idle. I think it is something to do with the graphics card/driver because I have ran tests using Novabench and my CPU scores 970 and my graphics comes up with an error, skips the test and gives it a 0. Specs: Intel Core i7 4790K MSI GTX 970 MSI SLI Krait motherboard 16GB 1886 RAM I have downloaded the NVIDIA web drivers for Yosemite but they can't be used as they are disabled through the following flag. nv_disable=1 flag to boot up Mac OS X otherwise it would just go to a black screen. Is there a way to disable my graphics card through BIOS and use integrated graphics without disconnecting the graphics card? Any suggestions on how to stop is being slow and flashing? 1 app which doesn't flash is Razer Synapse.

This thread is about why you love Apple's OSX. Why do you love it? Do you prefer it over Windows? What do you dislike? Do you find yourself all alone in an ocean of Windows or Linux, or do you find yourself with the majority of illuminated apple logos? Where could they improve? What could they bring back? What was your first Apple computer, where did you get it, how much did you buy it for, and what was it like when you first started it up? No we are not Apple fanatics, we are not silver metal casing and white illuminating logo lovers, we just prefer things a little.... well you will find out what the last word will be. My first apple product that I got was an old iMac. I don't remember the specs or year but it had the clear plastic all over it. I remember powering it on... wow. Plus it was free (it might have been stolen.... but who knows). The previous owner did not wipe the hdd. So a quick call to apple and $20 later I had some software on the way. I tell ya that was a awesome feeling. Installing the software and seeing all the animation was intoxicating. Windows could learn a thing or two from Apple. I hated to see it go, but $75 bucks wasn't too bad. My first purchased Apple computer was a 2012 Macbook Air 11 inch. I love this thing. I got for $400 from a classmate on the second semester of college. The feeling of powering it on and playing with updated software... ohhhh gives me a hard on. I love it because it is simple (took a little getting use to but with some homework I wasn't doing too bad). The OS doesn't take much resources like windows does. It is clean looking and I like that. Would I replace my Windows pc... nope. I love my Win. 7 pc. I will never let it go unless it's reached it's end like Win XP has. Software running of XP is impossible. I find myself to be in a mix of both windows and mac. I never see linux out in college. I don't have any hates just a few dislikes like how you have to go around your elbow to get to your thumb for certain tasks or finding things, or getting to a certain file or program or moving something. The command button is not placed in a good spot. Please share your experience.

Hey Guys, So you guys pretty much know what you are doing. We would be needing a Laptop that can be used for Photoshop, Auto-cad and Sketch-up and light rendering (Architecture Stuff). It needs to be really well designed for a lady so no ROG MSI EXTREME gaming nonsense. Also we are on a tight Budget so it needs to be less than 1100 Canadian Dollars. We have been looking around and I found the Dell Inspiron 7460 and Asus Trasformer Pro( although its out of budget but the Thunder Bolt 3 though...) as our best candidates. I'm pretty sure you guys know more. This is my friend Blog Post and I'm just trying my luck. Please help me people of Linus Media Group you are my only hope. You would also save a soul from using Macs. Yours Truly, Troubled Boyfriend.

Which is the best out of the mac book pro 13 inch with touch bar and the previous gen mac book pro 15 inch as both come around the same price segment. which will be the better option. My work load is : Coding, Graphic design, Web development, Media consumption, word processing, a little bit of video editing. Suggest other options if there are any better options than these.

Hi all, I am seeking advice and suggestions for options on managing my photo and video data. I am a fresh college graduate with a limited budget so I am looking for a cost efficient solution without sacrificing too much usability and reliability. My experience and knowledge as it applies to computing is somewhat limited to the basics so I hope any suggestions can be made with that in mind. My Current Workflow My current setup is an old 2nd Gen Drobo 4-Bay with about 18TB of data currently. On average, I produce about 30TB with each shoot I do (I do freelance photography). With my current workflow, I use a set of 2.5" external drives (1TB Touro S) to store incoming data. Off them I do my edits, clone a backup copy (using CarbonCopy Cloner), and offload the files periodically to my Drobo. I am also currently working off a 2013 Macbook Pro. Next Setup This workflow works but is somewhat limiting and slow. It's also easy to become disorganised with the data moving across multiple different drives. Lastly, it is also not the most secure in terms of having a solid backup system. I am looking to invest in a system that would allow me to have a second copy of all my data existing on my Drobo, while having plenty of space left to store future projects. It should also work with both Windows and Mac, as I am looking to build a PC in the near future to handle video editing projects. The new PC will hopefully have both Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 connections. It will also be preferred if the solution allows me to easily add more storage as I go, or as higher capacity drives start to fall in prices. My Research Based on what I have read and seen, I have a few options in mind but none of them seem to really be a good fit. Hardware RAID – I understand that hardware RAID is probably the way to go because I want that cross compatibility with both Mac and Windows. Are there actually any software RAID solutions that will seamlessly work on both platforms? File format – With the file format system, I am thinking about using ExFAT to have both Mac and Windows compatibility. Are there any opinions against this? RAID 6 – I understand that RAID 6 will give me better protection than RAID 5. My preference is hence for perhaps a 5-bay enclosure with a RAID 6 configuration. NAS – My other option is a NAS. This is an area that I do not have much experience with. I know very little about networks and modems, and by extension how I can setup my NAS for fast data transfer. I also do not have an Ethernet port in my room but the router/modem (?) is in the living room (I live in an apartment). I am not sure if my wifi speeds will be fast enough for use with a NAS solution. I have watched a couple videos off the LTT YouTube channel and understand that I can custom build my own DIY NAS. In particular, Unraid seems interesting. This is plausible but I am unsure if I have the ability to troubleshoot if something does go wrong. Little to no downtime would be highly desirable. Off the shelf solutions seem rather expensive and I am unsure how to best pick between them for my needs (photo/video work), and if they will work with my router/modem (the free option provided by my ISP) and my desire Mac/Windows setup. Options As mentioned, I have found some possible options that do not quite fit the balance of price and performance but I will outline them here nonetheless: G-Tech: This option seems to be a popular choice amongst the creative community and seems to be a reliable option. They are quite pricey though and will be stretching what I can afford. They use a hardware RAID but currently don't have something that plugs over Thunderbolt 2 + USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt 3 + USB 3.1 and supports 20TB and bigger. One option is to use their Thunderbolt 2 only products, and rely on the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapters later to connect the enclosure to my future machines. However I am not confident how well this will work (if at all) after looking at some existing reviews of these adapters from Apple and StarTech. Also, I think new models with Thunderbolt 3 and or USB 3.1 should be coming in the near future. LaCie: LaCie's 5Big enclosures are a possible option, though I am unsure how reliable they are. I have read some major issues with the machine from user reviews. Again this being a Thunderbolt 2 only device, I am betting on using an adapter to use on future machines. Also a pricey option like the G-Tech stuff. Akitio: I found that Akitio has a low-cost enclosure with USB 3.1 connection and hardware RAID with its NT3.1 model. The issue with this is that I will need to purchase two 10TB hard drives to be able to store all my data coming off my Drobo. That does not leave my with much space left. The total cost of this build after adding the hard drives is also high, and I feel I might be better off using that money on an enclosure with more drive bays. Either way, for a direct attached solution, I will probably purchase two sets (albeit at different times) to ensure I have a second/third backup of my data. Suggestions If you have any suggestions or advice on how to best approach this, please let me know. Again I am looking for a solution that is a balance between price, read write performance, and reliability. It also needs to fulfil the option of connecting to both Mac and Windows. I have been fussing over this for a few months now, and have yet to figure out an ideal solution. Or if you've been in a similar situation or are actually facing the same issue, please comment too with your thoughts. Thank you!

So, I don't know about anyone else, but when I heard that the new MacBook Pro could be charged with any (depending on size) any of the four type-c ports my mind went straight to wondering if it was possible to charge it through all four ports simultaneously. Well my wondering came to an end when I found a video where a man with heaps more money than me, but also, far less brains tested it for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rvpq8LopLU Also, if there are any people here into electrical engineering who feel like explaining what just happened here that'd be cool Ps: this is my first post, I hope it was up to the community standard

I am not well versed in Mac and how to operate them or what they may need to setup dual monitors. What I am trying to do is use a Mac from home with two monitors that uses LogMeIn to connect to a PC and I would like to use dual monitors from the mac to work on the PC. The PC environment is a virtual environment, but yea. I am not sure exactly what is needed to make this work and would appreciate any insight.

Is it really worth it? Like the new Origin OMNI. I don't really see the point. I mean, cases can be beautiful and with proper cable management you can hide your case. You get laptop specs without the onthego- features. Edit: Okay that video is useless. I changed into a better one. I read about the Origin Omni from a tech magazine and it wasn't a full review. It was just a "heads up, this PC exists". I thought that video would show it more but after re-watching it, it feels like Im advertising it.

I have Windows 10 on my Mac book pro using boot camp and whenever I call someone (skype, messenger, hangouts, etc.) after around like 30-60 minutes, my I-sight camera stops working (my camera is frozen and whenever I turn my camera back on, it would be a black screen). If I try closing all my video calling software apps, I notice that my green light is still on even though I'm not calling anyone. This problem stops working whenever I restart my computer but it gets annoying because after some period of time, my camera stops working.

I'm not a Mac fan-boy but I have been using them since 1996. The problem is, recently I have not been happy with the direction Apple is taking with their desktops. The lack of choice, the price, and lack of upgradable products is very bothersome. In order to get the stuff I need (for graphic design & desktop publishing) I need to drop $3500 on a new Apple. And I will not get everything I want, just what I can get. I use Adobe software so there is no reason to stick with a Mac. Can someone help me speck out a PC (built or I can build) that would be powerful above all STABLE! I do not WANT to drop $3500 if I can help it. What I need in a Computer: 16GB of RAM (min.) i7 processor 256 GB SSD (for the OS) 2TB storage (SSD or SATA but maybe with room to expand) (I'd like to run an internal RAID, right now I use an external software driven raid.) Memory card reader Professional Graphics Card with DisplayPort (min. 2GB, I do not know that much about them) WiFi Bluetooth Ethernet I'd like a Thunderbolt port (or two) I watch Linus all the time and I see all the cool things a PC user can get for his machine, and I'd like some of that goodness. My experience with daily work on a Windows machine is based on my experiences 12 years ago and it was FILLED with the blue screen of death! Is Windows as stable as Mac OS today??? Any advice would be great!

Hello everyone! I am a young photographer and videographer and I am starting to amass a lot of data. I recently had to run out and buy a 3tb lacie external drive and I am more than half way through it already. I have a limited tech background but I do know about NAS setups. So I have been on the hunt to build one and my research lead me here. So here is what I need some help with: I want to build a NAS for MAC. Ok so the first thing you all should know is I am poor. I cannot afford a $600 Buffalo Terastation. Or anything else on this list: http://www.tomsitpro.com/articles/nas-for-mac,2-750.html Also you should know I do have an Apple Timecapsule and it is terrible for what I am doing. I actually had to move all my images and videos off it because they would bog down the timecapsule to the point it would restart. If it's at all possible to build something that can grow with me, that would be amazing. Currently I have a MacBook Pro but I am In the early stages of building a Hackintosh. Thanks in advance for any help. Oh oh and one last thing if anyone can suggest a great router to network all of this, that would be great. My timecapsule drive failed

I am hooking up my mac mini and windows pc (gtx 970) to a monitor via a displayport kvm. When I go from my monitor to the kvm to the mac, it works fine, but if I try going from the monitor to the kvm to the PC, there is. No signal. I then tried just going straight to the pc from the Monitor, and that didn't work. The monitor is hdmi by the way, so I am using an hdmi to displayport cable which, again, works fine on the Mac mini.

Does anyone know where I can delete them from to free up space on my laptop. Also, this is my school laptop so I really need help!!! P.S. for people who have seen my last posts I have built my pc and its really cool. I might post pics. Thanks, PLS HELP ME

Hey guys! i was just with a friend on his computer and he has a iMac. He told me something that really suprised me, all of his files has been changed to .locky and been encrypted. This is a part of a ransomware. I did not realise that this was possible on a mac yet however it is. Anyone got a fix? preferable one that is not formatting as he has files he desperatly needs of his hard drive.

My brother claims to have backed up my phone to his Mac and he says that he can view all of the files in a virtual machine. Is this possible?

So I finally decided to upgrade my Mac Mini's OS to the new Seirra or whatever it was called, and the power went down for 10 seconds or so. My PC is fine, thankfully(except the power supply became unstable so I changed that), but my Mac that was halfway through an OS update has crashed and now shows the error code that's seen in the attachment.
