Budget (including currency): Not really a limit, just want to pay for performance Country: Netherlands (EU) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Work: Lightroom/PhotoShop with 50 megapixel RAW's. Usually culling about 1200-1500 a day, and exporting about 200-300 full resolution images (not all at once, about 15-20 at a time). All with a as short as possible turn around. Games: Mostly the current CoD and Battlefield, and games like Cities Skylines 2 and Farming Simulator. (At 4K) Other details: I have been using the 'original' Mac Studio with a maxed M1 Ultra and 128GB memory since its introduction, but I desperately need to switch back to good old Windows. I don't have any old parts. I will be using a 4K main monitor, and run a old 1080p for nothing but security camera's, some TV series or YouTube in the background. I have not made a decision on the 4K monitor, but since it has to have great sRGB coverage I don't expect more than 120hz. I picked the following list, and would appreciate any comment. For as far as I can see there are no compatibility problems, and am mainly wondering if anyone spots any bottlenecks or any bad matches. MOBO: Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO MOBO: Asus ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI II CPU: Intel Core i9 14900K M.2: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB M.2 SSD GPU: Asus GeForce RTX 4090 ROG-STRIX OC Edition RAM: Corsair DDR5 Dominator Titanium 4x32GB (128GB) 6600MT/s CL32 RAM: Corsair DDR5 Dominator Titanium 2x48GB (96GB) 6600MT/s CL32 CASE: Corsair 5000D Airflow CASE: Corsair 7000D Airflow PSU: Corsair HX1500i (2023/ATX3.0) AIO (CPU): Corsair iCUE LINK H150i RGB AIO (CPU): Corsair iCUE LINK H170i RGB (420mm) CASE FANS: Corsair iCUE LINK QX120 RGB 120mm PWM Fans Starter Kit + Corsair iCUE LINK QX120 RGB 120mm PWM Fan + Corsair iCUE LINK Cable 2x200mm CASE FANS: 2 x Corsair iCUE LINK QX140 RGB 140mm PWM Fans Starter Kit (4 total fans) AIO would be mounted on top of case as an exhaust. Where is the RAM controller on skylake?
CornFlix._. posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am troubleshooting for a friend and narrowed it down to the ram controller. He has an z170 board so its skylake or the generation before. It wont start with a 3 short beep - beepcode which means that something is up with the ram. The ram sticks are totally fine and different ram wont do the trick. The only thing left is the ram controller which is either on the cpu or the northbridge. I can't find any useful information online which is why i am asking here. I dont want to tell him to buy a new motherboard only to realise that he needs a new cpu. -
SPECS -> OS - Windows 11 Pro 64-bit PSU - 650W Bronze Plus Cooler Master - https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/power-supplies/mwe-series/mwe-650-bronze-v2/ ASUS TUF GAMING z590 PLUS WIFI MOTHERBOARD Intel i5-11600K OC'd to ALL CORE x49 with 1.375V Manual core voltage. 4x8GB 3200MT/s DDR4 Kingston HyperX Memory MSI Ventus OCV2 LHR 3060Ti 8GB 1TB Gigabyte Aorus GEN4 NVME SSD 2TB XPG Gammix S70 Blade GEN4 NVME SSD 500GB WD Blue SATA M.2 SSD 2TB WD Blue 7200RPM HDD Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280MM AIO For CPU Problem -> I have been running the above configuration for more than 2+ Years now. The Overclock to the CPU was done around 4 Months ago, it's been running without any issues at all ; I know the voltage seems a bit high but i had to push it to 1.375 manually for stable 4.9Ghz all core, my motherboard was actually trying to push more voltage even 1.45 when I left it to auto voltage mode for that frequency. Anyways, coming to present, since 2 days ago my system started randomly crashing (completely turning off without throwing any errors - hard reboot) and got stuck trying to post. My Troubleshooting Process -> Knowing a little bit about debugging boot issues, I checked the troubleshooting Q-Leds, and it showed Solid 10 Seconds DRAM - YELLOW LIGHT, and THEN 2 FAST CPU - RED LIGHT BLINKS and then kept repeating the cycle until POST Failed and system hard rebooted again. Thinking that it might be ram related, I tested all configurations possible for the ram sticks, each slot, each stick, each combo. (PS - These tests were done the next morning because system crashed at 3AM in the night and I couldn't muster up the energy to troubleshoot). Now here comes the first kick to my face, system booted in every single one of those configurations, but it didn't POST when using all 4 sticks together. Thinking that it may be related to memory timings not being correct, I switched from XMP-1 (Some defaults + Some ASUS optimised) to XMP-2 (Complete Defaults for Ram Stick), and voila the system did indeed POST. I close my system and go for my work, and come back and boot the pc, yes it did POST in first try, I start playing games (New World, Minecraft Modded) for about 5-ish Hours, and boom hard reboot again. Not having any idea at this point about what might be wrong I thought that could it be a PSU issue, my thinking was that since its shutting down after some duration of usage it might just be some component overheating there. But as we come to today, I booted my PC again without any settings changed since yesterday after the crash, and yet again it did POST contrary to what should have happened in case some settings were incorrect (Well I did expect it to boot from my PSU faulty theory). But it crashed even quicker this time at only 3 hrs or so. Since then I tried all the troubleshooting steps again, tested all ram configs, cleaned the slots even, it would boot sometimes after long POST test durations, and then crash in a few minutes or even seconds. Finally I started changing BIOS settings CPU Overclock settings were unable to fix it. Tested all these : {Default, x49OC, Auto OC} XMP I / II / Disabled / Auto And still nothing, PC Still goes into the same crash loop after using for a few hours, and becomes fine after letting it stay powered down for a few hours. (Before anyone says anything about temps on all the components in the motherboard, I already monitored a 3 Hour long New World gaming session, and all the temps were well within reasonable range, even lower than average for the most part.) So to end the above monologue I am here looking for any kind of advice and help that anyone can offer me. I will be taking my system to a nearby computer store next week for getting components tested but thought I might as well ask the knowledgeable community on LTT Forums <3.

Hey Guys, Back here again after long. I've got a new laptop and been playing around with it for almost a year. So far i have Disassembled it, removed the crummy stock vrm pastes and applied Gelid thermal pads and Kryonaut for the CPU and GPU. The temps have been stable around 50- 55 C although they do shoot up to 100 as soon as I render something in blender or play a demanding game. Nature of the beast, I guess. I'm here again to ask you guys (and hopefully @unclewebb if he's inclined to help again :)) if my current settings are looking alright and I'm not doing something obviously stupid that's holding back performance. Right now I'm only playing around with the CPU Core and CPU cache settings and reducing it by a point each week (to test stability under different use cases as i go about my day). So far its stable at the current settings. Some of My questions I'd like answered are: Do I leave Thermal velocity boost checked on or off? I've seen people say it's good if you have a system with a proper cooler, others say it takes away performance as the computer reaches higher temp thresholds. So, i''m a bit confused about this. What about VRM stress and Ring Down? Is it safe to increase the turbo ratio limits while the cpu is undervolted? Do I need to change anything in TPL window that might help? I have a feeling I can play around with the speedshift min-max to get more juice out for my work? Thanks a ton in advance for your help and insights!

Budget (including currency): $500 USD, or as close to that number as possible, as she's a bit constrained for cash right now. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Streaming on OBS and for games, she currently only plays cozy games that run well on her steam deck, however, she wants to branch out and play FPS games like COD or adventure games like Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter, and The Forest 2. Other details Currently she's been using her Steam Deck as her streaming/gaming device and has run into crashes with certain games while streaming. She already has peripherals and 2 monitors (Spectre Curved 24" 75hz Professional LED Monitor 1080p 2021) that she uses with her current set-up. She's new to PC and isn't picky about if she needs to downgrade settings to medium if necessary, as long as it runs while she streams and it's not awful to look at from a viewer's perspective on Twitch. I'm providing a link to what I have so far for her build via PCPartPicker and am just looking to see opinions on how I can maximize her performance for the best price. I already know that the current price tag is over the budget amount and I'm hoping to offset some of that cost using resources like E-Bay to get some better deals. Any solid input is greatly appreciated! https://pcpartpicker.com/user/stickart95/saved/#view=bbk2kL

Summary A reddit user by the name of u/PantatRebus has managed to purchase a 14th gen i7 from a retailer in Indonesia. u/PantantRebus had this to say in their post: "Indonesian here. Yes I just bought an i7-14700K I made sure not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES that IF this processor is ready to be sold to a customer. They said yes to all three confirmation and voila. It's 7.450.000 IDR (roughly 480USD)" Specs u/PantantRebus ran cpuz and cinebench with the new processor, with these results Sources News article: https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-core-i7-14700k-goes-on-sale-in-indonesia-before-official-launch Original source:

I was one of the winners for the LTT/Intel giveaway back in December where they gave away a 10900K and that Cooler Master ML360 Cryo Cooler AIO. Naturally, a friend and I decided to upgrade our shared Media/Game Server server machine with the parts. After building it, the AIO is super loud. The pump sounds like it's running at 100% all the time with a consistent whine. We've been unable to make any kind of difference to it. And since it seems to use some kind of proprietary port for plugging it in, it has to be connected to the same headers as the fans. The Intel software you're supposed to use with the cooler is honestly hot garbage and we haven't been able to get it to work since we installed the parts last week. The version cooler master provides is outdated, so when you try to start it, it tells us the configuration is invalid and to contact support. If we update the software, then it starts up, but just constantly gives a "Waiting for Cyro Cooler to start up" message. Trying to open the FAQ gives an "Invalid Firmware. FAQ not available" message. And trying to run a diagnostic test fails for an unknown reason on any version of the software. This is definitely a niche product, but I'm hoping maybe any of the other 199 winners have any insight for us on this. Thank you! Can someone please explain what the difference is between these two listings on Amazon? Is one of them fake or are they both legit? I've never bought a CPU before so I'm not sure if I'm just missunderstanding something. (btw I'm not actually buying this I just like window shopping expensive stuff I can't afford lmfao)

Just swapped out my dead AIO for a Noctua NH-D15 and was wondering if these temps were normal. CPU is an i9-9900K. For context, was playing Overwatch 2. When playing Starfield my temps maxed out at 85. Ambient temperature is around 27.5 C.

Need help making a really crappy old laptop faster. It's an Acer Swift 1 SF113-31 (released in July 2017) with a Pentium N4200 processor and Intel HD 505 GPU... you can probably see where this is going. 4GB of RAM. Currently running W10 (64-bit). I ran Cinebench R23 (multi-core) and got 677 points @ 12 celsius - I was too scared to run single-core because it would probably get too hot lmao Anyway, need some tips on how to speed up this thing (I don't expect much). Ideas?

Sup, I am plannin on gettin a new PC which I will build on my own, will buy parts from cheapest places I can find in my country [shipping too expensive for international orders]. SO my problem is I am planning ot get 32GB RAM. I have ATX mobo with 4xDIMM slots so I can either go with 2x16 or 4x8gig. I dont think I will need more than 32 GB anyways [97% sure wont need more]. So which kit should I use 1x16 is 33$, 2x8 is 37$. T-force Delta RGB DDR4 3600MHz. I want to fill up all 4 ram slots cas it look cool but I want to know if it affects negatively or positively, if negatively I may go with 2x16. Thanks! my plan [not 100% sure] - i7 12700K - B760 DS3H AX DDR4 - Teamforce Delta DDR4 3600MHz kit [winner here] - ID Cooling frostflow 240mm [non rgb, I will make it stand sideways, check the case, I dont like too much rgb] - mp33 Pro 1TB nvme - Asrock 3080 or PNY 3080Ti [both used] [ - Xigmatek Overtake Supertower PC [its super sus cheap but will buy it cas why not, 19$] - Cougar Gex 750W 80+ Gold, Tier B psu cannot order from ebay/amazon etc.

Hello LTT Community! I am soon to be looking into upgrading my CPU and i figured around this time of year would have been a good time, While im not so desperate to upgrade due to still running a i9 10900k which is a few generations old now but still a very good performer for most systems. I am hestitant to bite the bullet and upgrade my platform as while current intel and amd offering are very good we are on the edge of new generations coming, with intel 14th gen this year being more of a refinement generation and the disapoiting news meterorite lake wont be coming to the desktop in the way we want. Then with the news that AMD is gearing up for the launch of Zen 5 at the start of next year, its put me in a tough postion as to waiting to upgrade and for how long do i wait. When i bought my 10900k back in may 2020 i really enjoyed it however i did feel buyers remorse when ryzen 5000 came out later that year and i dont want to feel like i am repeating that pattern, In this industry that is always the risk we are always playing. It is the same feeling of do i bite the bullet and hop on ryzen 7000 or intel 13th/14th gen (As 14th Gen comes out this month). Maybe 14th gen launch will make ryzen 7000 and intel 13th fall in price, or is it worth holding out and see if waiting out for Zen 5 will be a much worth while investment, both in time and money. When i do come to upgrade i would very much be wanting to upgrade to an i9 or a Ryzen 9 as i would very much like to upgrade my core count too and i am whilling to spend around £500 to £600 GBP for my next CPU, i just want to make sure that i can make the correct choice when it comes to dropping this much on this platform upgrade, i am currently so torn between what generation to hold out for aswell as if i go AMD or intel. I have no brand loayaties, so the only brand i want to give my money is the one who is offering the best performance for the price. If the community has any adivce and addition insight, your wisdom, views and opinions would be more appreicated on this. I want to make the best and most informed decison that i can so the wisdom of the wider community will greatly help! Thank you for taking the time to read all this, Maddie

Okay so @venomtail decided to flip all ive been looking at on its head, my original planned build was as follows: Intel build pc part picker New possible build: AMD based build I know i can mix and match brands but looking at the gaming performance of AMDs products kinda blew me away Need some input into this, good cpu/gpu pairing for gaming, games like cyberpunk, elden ring, remnant etc? What motherboard and memory is ideal for these? GPU is just a placeholder for a 7800xt, if there is a better card id be more than willing to change, any suggestions? This will be a long term upgrade so price, buy and large, doesnt matter to me. Based in uk for pricing and shipping Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking, currently have my 10600K set to +3 in the turbo ratio thingy which puts cores to 1, 2 - 51, 3, 4 - 50, 5, 6 - 49, set to 1.375V, can provide images in a bit (currently mid dnd) any options for improvement? hitting 4.9GHz max but have yet to run a cpu specific benchmark

Hi all, here is my PC build in which I'm new to building this stuff. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MBxt89 I am trying to find a great PSU for it but am confused by tiers like gold tier. Can you help me get started with some PSU's to look at and research? I think I need about 750W or so? Thank you! PS: I'm also accepting advice on my build if I need to change anything. It's for video editing and 3D modeling so, a work station.

Hey, so I wanted to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 3600 to probably an i5 13600KF, but since the paperlaunch for the 14th gen is in roughly 3 weeks, I wanted to know if the wait is worth it compared to the performance jump? Thanks

Hi there! I am posting on behalf of my husband. We are both music producers who use FL studio for our work and within the past two days he's been having some cooling issues with his CPU for no apparent reason. His CPU is an i9 9900k. When he's idle, temps are fine and they will be fine for a bit when he's working, but occasionally temps will spike into critical. (Over 100c°) My thought is that maybe his thermal paste needs replaced but I'm not entirely sure. I know a little bit about pcs but not all too much. He's had his pc for a little over 2 years and does work on it on an almost daily basis. He did recently instal an M.2 SSD but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the cooling. Any advice or suggestions is more than welcome. Thank you!!!

Hello LTT Community, I am rebuilding a Mackie DXB 200, it's essentially a console that hosts it's OS on Windows 32Bit Systems. Currently, I plan to have the system run Windows POS Ready 32bit in the endgame, and I am compiling components based off of an upgrade list Provided from a group chat. Due to TOS i can't really share the guide I'm following but I can share the purchase list from Ebay! My main concerns are that the parts are scarce and i want to be clear, i want to follow the guide word for word to avoid FF-ing shiz up. Apparently the Mackie Software is just that unstable and finicky. The RAM is the culprit in question. I will be Able to buy either: 1. 1x Stick of 4gb 2. 1x Stick of 8gb 3. 2x Sticks of 8gb for 16gb 4. 4 Sticks of 8gb for 32gb I know a 32bit system is only going to be capable of 4gbs, but I want to make use of dual channel on the MB. Is it safe to drop the 16gb set in my MB? Or should I just stick with one stick of 4gb ram? Another question would be if I am good with the components Here? It looked like nothing was incompatible, but a second pair of eyes would be nice. Thanks guys!
