I have an old Asus X55C (SX030H) running an Intel Core i3-2328M @ 2.20GHz which I'm trying to upgrade a bit for fun. I easily upgraded the RAM adding an 8GB SODIMM DDR3 1333MHz stick (15€) and a Samsung SSD 870 EVO of 500GB (35€). Below you can see further details about its specs. My next step is to upgrade the CPU too. What would be the best CPU upgrade for this laptop? Can I install CPUs having a higher TDP (45W vs 35W)? Maybe by using a better thermal paste and drilling some holes in the back of the cover, it can be possible to keep the temperatures low for a higher CPU's TDP. Based on the Socket G2 / Socket rPGA988B CPUs found on CPU-World.com, the only Quad-Cores with the same 35W TDP are the i7-3612QM and i7-3632QM which however have a low Base Frequency. The best 35W two cores instead are the i7-3520M and i7-3540M: Considering the 45W Quad-Cores CPUs I could choose among these: What do you suggest? Have you had an experience upgrading this laptop or others to a higher TDP CPU? Thanks

Should I opt for a first generation Intel graphic card in my pc build or just go for a NVIDIA RTX 3060? Here are the full specifications: Processor: Ryzen 5 5600 Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 GPU: Intel Arc A750 or RTX 3060 (haven't decided yet) RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB PSU: Cooler Master 650watt SMPS Need help choosing the graphic card, also if anything other than GPU seems off in this build I would appreciate your advice Thanks

Hey guys, this is a bit of an odd one, but I'm looking for a Micro ATX, or a mini ITX motherboard that would work with an i7 6700k + GTX 960 combo. They are from an old computer that I can't be bothered selling for parts, but they are sitting in a huge case. So I figured I'll pick up a small form MB and transplant it all into a tiny case to keep as a spare machine, or give to a family member if they can use it. Ideally I'd like the board to be new(if that's even still a thing) and as cheap as possible, but I don't want some dodgy no name brand either. I found a case that will work for 15 quid, so that leaves more spare for the MB if needed. All the naming for the older generations is really confusing to me so that's why I'm struggling to figure this one out. Hope you can help me.:)

Hey guys I need some help and advice on my next upgrade. I currently have a Ryzen 7 3700x and I’m trying to upgrade it to something newer. I am debating whether or not to go with a 13th gen i7 or 12th gen i9. As of time writing this post there’s only a 40$ difference in price so I can go either way. However I’m also will to look at and if they have a better option. Anyone able to give some advice?

Hi. So I almost have all the parts for a 13600k Pc. But a thought came to me: this Intel cpu bending deal... Could my 13th gen cpu/mobo break in only a few years??? Losing a couple degrees of cooling, I can live with. But a broken cpu, or something else bad happening? I do mind. Edit: how long has 12th been out for? 2 years so far? I'm guessing there's no wide-spread complaints about broken 12th gen cpus, but could they start coming soon? I don't want to void my warranty with a 3rd party ILM, and I don't wanna risk breaking something. Maybe after warranty is done. But by then, what if there's too much damage, if any? Is switching to Am5 right now a safer choice? Or do they have similar issues/risks? What do you think, and your reasoning? My Mobo: Gigabyte UD AC Z790 Cooler: Deepcool Assassin IV Premium The cpu/mobo are unopened except mobo cuz of store policy but they'll still accept opened returns. But 7700x could sell out. 7600x is another option, but more cores would be nice. Also, i don't even know if there are any good Black Friday deals left for me for Am5. Even tho 13th and 14th gen cpus have less bending due to being more stiff than 12th gen cpus... Apparently there's still some uneven contact-pressure between the cpu and coolers. Plz let me know! Thanks!

Should I wait for the 15900k or go for the 14900k?
Jclau77 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hey everyone, So I've made it my plan to go full on next gen by 2024 after recently acquiring my 4090 Strix. As of this post, I am unable to use it due to me being overseas but nevertheless, since I've gotten the most expensive part of my next gen upgrade I am starting procure funds for a full on next gen system. I am currently sitting at an 11900k and ddr4 64 gb of g skill ram (3200 mhz) and I feel that my covid Era pc that got me through college needs an update. My main concern is that the 11900k might hold my 4090 from its full potential but I digress and besides, the 11900 was such a disappointment. I only made that jump reluctantly when it got bundled up with my 3080 ti back in 2021 but anyway. I am set with two options, one I wait until Q3 of 2024 and wait for Intel to drop their 15th gen cpu and also go z890 or I can go all in and make the jump by either Q2 of 2024 and get myself the 14900k, z790 and a ddr5 set of ram. Please let me know which is the best option, any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Oh and before I forget, I mainly use my system for uni work and 4k gaming. I'm going into IT for uni next year and I'm going to be using my desktop once again to get me through it. -
Guys I am planning to build a pc for around the price of 600usd I am planning to use intel i5-12400f But in GPU section I'm bit confused whether to use intel arc a750 8gb or rx 6600 8gb The use cases of the pc is for gaming, coding (python, javascript,) using for data related fields, using llm model, sdxl. So please help me select the GPU both are at the same price in my country

Okay, so I have been thinking this for awhile now and I genuinely think we may be seeing history repeat itself, With the next generation of CPU architecture (ARM) beginning to take its foothold in the market, I began seeing AMD/Intel respond similarly as once Nortel or Lucent once did with their original response to Cisco's IP alternative to ATM (predecessor to IP) my point being we are clearly seeing another major architectural change within computing, and how the major players (AMD/Intel) being nearly non-responsive until only now, are we seeing another Nortel/Lucent situation begin to unfold slowly in front of our very own eyes. If anyone has thoughts, feel free to drop them, I might just be an idiot, but this is my observation at least.

I just recently bought a bunch of parts for a pc build and done extensive research online for building a pc and on the first boot up it displayed 60 error codes -18 cpu codes (00,31,13,17,27,03,52,7F,02,08,5C,40,80,63, 60,86,24,62) -29 memory codes (00,11,23,12,28,26,4C,0D,0E,2C,31,2E,48,34,57,39,3A,79,36,35,7A,3B,3C,38,3F,39,6E,5C,55) -10 VGA codes (90,94,96,91,92,99,98,9C,84,A0) -3 HDD codes (A2,A0,98) -Hardware I'm working with is all brand new top of the line and I made sure I was extremely careful when handling all pieces and was able to get into bios before the screen prompted that it had posted in safe mode (probably because of all the codes) All parts are labeled below I just don't even know where to start because I followed the instructions step by step when viewing Christopher Flannigan's video on YouTube where he did a similar build to mine with his TUF 502 build any suggestions moving forward since I'm relatively new to this -ASUS Z790 Maximus formula -14th gen intel i9 14900k -4090 TUF Nvidia OC -ASUS Thor Platinum ll 1200w -ASUS ROG Ryujin III 360 -CORSAIR Dominator Titanium DDR5 RAM 48GB x2 -SAMSUNG 990 pro 2TB x2 -ASUS TUF GT502 Tower

Where is the RAM controller on skylake?
CornFlix._. posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am troubleshooting for a friend and narrowed it down to the ram controller. He has an z170 board so its skylake or the generation before. It wont start with a 3 short beep - beepcode which means that something is up with the ram. The ram sticks are totally fine and different ram wont do the trick. The only thing left is the ram controller which is either on the cpu or the northbridge. I can't find any useful information online which is why i am asking here. I dont want to tell him to buy a new motherboard only to realise that he needs a new cpu. -

The Overclock to the CPU was done around 4 Months ago, it's been running without any issues at all ; I know the voltage seems a bit high but i had to push it to 1.375 manually for stable 4.9Ghz all core, my motherboard was actually trying to push more voltage even 1.45 when I left it to auto voltage mode for that frequency. Anyways, coming to present, since 2 days ago my system started randomly crashing (completely turning off without throwing any errors - hard reboot) and got stuck trying to post. My Troubleshooting Process -> Knowing a little bit about debugging boot issues, I checked the troubleshooting Q-Leds, and it showed Solid 10 Seconds DRAM - YELLOW LIGHT, and THEN 2 FAST CPU - RED LIGHT BLINKS and then kept repeating the cycle until POST Failed and system hard rebooted again. Thinking that it might be ram related, I tested all configurations possible for the ram sticks, each slot, each stick, each combo. (PS - These tests were done the next morning because system crashed at 3AM in the night and I couldn't muster up the energy to troubleshoot). Now here comes the first kick to my face, system booted in every single one of those configurations, but it didn't POST when using all 4 sticks together. Thinking that it may be related to memory timings not being correct, I switched from XMP-1 (Some defaults + Some ASUS optimised) to XMP-2 (Complete Defaults for Ram Stick), and voila the system did indeed POST. I close my system and go for my work, and come back and boot the pc, yes it did POST in first try, I start playing games (New World, Minecraft Modded) for about 5-ish Hours, and boom hard reboot again. Not having any idea at this point about what might be wrong I thought that could it be a PSU issue, my thinking was that since its shutting down after some duration of usage it might just be some component overheating there. But as we come to today, I booted my PC again without any settings changed since yesterday after the crash, and yet again it did POST contrary to what should have happened in case some settings were incorrect (Well I did expect it to boot from my PSU faulty theory). But it crashed even quicker this time at only 3 hrs or so. Since then I tried all the troubleshooting steps again, tested all ram configs, cleaned the slots even, it would boot sometimes after long POST test durations, and then crash in a few minutes or even seconds. Finally I started changing BIOS settings CPU Overclock settings were unable to fix it. Tested all these : {Default, x49OC, Auto OC} XMP I / II / Disabled / Auto And still nothing, PC Still goes into the same crash loop after using for a few hours, and becomes fine after letting it stay powered down for a few hours. (Before anyone says anything about temps on all the components in the motherboard, I already monitored a 3 Hour long New World gaming session, and all the temps were well within reasonable range, even lower than average for the most part.) So to end the above monologue I am here looking for any kind of advice and help that anyone can offer me. I will be taking my system to a nearby computer store next week for getting components tested but thought I might as well ask the knowledgeable community on LTT Forums <3.

Hey Guys, Back here again after long. I've got a new laptop and been playing around with it for almost a year. So far i have Disassembled it, removed the crummy stock vrm pastes and applied Gelid thermal pads and Kryonaut for the CPU and GPU. The temps have been stable around 50- 55 C although they do shoot up to 100 as soon as I render something in blender or play a demanding game. Nature of the beast, I guess. I'm here again to ask you guys (and hopefully @unclewebb if he's inclined to help again :)) if my current settings are looking alright and I'm not doing something obviously stupid that's holding back performance. Right now I'm only playing around with the CPU Core and CPU cache settings and reducing it by a point each week (to test stability under different use cases as i go about my day). So far its stable at the current settings. Some of My questions I'd like answered are: Do I leave Thermal velocity boost checked on or off? I've seen people say it's good if you have a system with a proper cooler, others say it takes away performance as the computer reaches higher temp thresholds. So, i''m a bit confused about this. What about VRM stress and Ring Down? Is it safe to increase the turbo ratio limits while the cpu is undervolted? Do I need to change anything in TPL window that might help? I have a feeling I can play around with the speedshift min-max to get more juice out for my work? Thanks a ton in advance for your help and insights!

Budget (including currency): $500 USD, or as close to that number as possible, as she's a bit constrained for cash right now. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Streaming on OBS and for games, she currently only plays cozy games that run well on her steam deck, however, she wants to branch out and play FPS games like COD or adventure games like Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter, and The Forest 2. Other details Currently she's been using her Steam Deck as her streaming/gaming device and has run into crashes with certain games while streaming. She already has peripherals and 2 monitors (Spectre Curved 24" 75hz Professional LED Monitor 1080p 2021) that she uses with her current set-up. She's new to PC and isn't picky about if she needs to downgrade settings to medium if necessary, as long as it runs while she streams and it's not awful to look at from a viewer's perspective on Twitch. I'm providing a link to what I have so far for her build via PCPartPicker and am just looking to see opinions on how I can maximize her performance for the best price. I already know that the current price tag is over the budget amount and I'm hoping to offset some of that cost using resources like E-Bay to get some better deals. Any solid input is greatly appreciated! https://pcpartpicker.com/user/stickart95/saved/#view=bbk2kL

Can someone please explain what the difference is between these two listings on Amazon? Is one of them fake or are they both legit? Just swapped out my dead AIO for a Noctua NH-D15 and was wondering if these temps were normal. CPU is an i9-9900K. For context, was playing Overwatch 2. When playing Starfield my temps maxed out at 85. Ambient temperature is around 27.5 C.
