Gonna be getting parts for a new drain-my-bank-account level rig and I'm wondering: What is the more powerful processor and by how much? 7820X or 7700k Familiar with 7700k due to research and I'm wondering how much better the 7820X would be. Due to lack of knowledge, project if you must.

Ive always said to buy the i7 7700k but then i thought that the 30$ difference might as well be worth saving... Between i7 7700k and i7 6700k which one is the best? ( obv the i7 7700k) but to what extent... will the i7 6700k perform evenly-close to , or not? What speficic advantages does the 7700 has over to 6700 AND to be fair i dont even think if i will OVERCLOCK my cpu so does it even worth paying some extra money for some extra Mhz ? And if i buy the i7 6700k or the i7 7700k will a simple coolermaster hyper 212 evo do its job? Provided that i dont overclock it ofcourse... The use is simple , content creator , gaming , livestreaming .

Hello. I just a new pc, with these specs I "only" get 200-300 fps, no matter the settings in game. I'm not using any launch options. Reason I'm making this thread is that I think the pc should be performing better than it is on csgo. Hopefully somebody can help me. (Sorry if I posted this in wrong section or it's not allowed on this site)

Hey guys! I'd like to share my work with you all, here's a time lapse build log I've been working on alongside working on my new PC Let me know what you think!
-
I have done extensive research for about 5 months to make the best build I could in my region for a budget of $1925 ($185 shipping + tax, yes I know, wtf right? or is it normal?). Now, finally I want to clear all my doubts. I mostly play video games and here are my specs.......Specs: Intel Core I7-7700k (newegg.com) Noctua NH-D15 CPU air cooler (newegg.com) GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB (newegg.com) Team T-Force / Night Hawk 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 (newegg.com) Asus ROG strix Z270E (newegg.com) EVGA 750 G3 PSU (newegg.com) Cooler Master Master Case pro 5 Nvidia edition (local) 240GB Kingston A400 ssd (newegg.com) Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD 7200rpm (newegg.com) Ok so,Question 1 - I know the I7-7700k gets hot, so does the Noctua NH-D15 air cooler really perform better than the H100i, like it has been stated in many websites? Also can anyone give me the temperature of I7-7700k with the NH-D15, I can't find it. I have no intention of changing the processor to be clear.Question 2 - I've seen videos showing that video games prefer the higher clock speeds of the I7-7700k than the Ryzen 1700x, so is it better than the Ryzen 1700x in gaming. I only want to know about gaming. But Ryzen's cores and threads can be useful in some cases. I have no interest in x299 and it's over priced motherboards, sorry 7740k Question 3 - I just stumbled upon that Team t-force Night Hawk RAM in Newegg, I had chosen a Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM kit before but this RAM is bit cheaper and is said to perform better. Plus it also has LED!!! So which is actually better? LPX has CAS latency of 15 while Night Hawk has 16, but it performs better. Does CAS really make a huge impact?Question 4 - In my region, the gigabyte card that I chose is the cheapest GTX 1080 I could find with the next card $40 costlier (both gigabyte G1 and Aorus at the same price are next in line) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125880&ignorebbr=1. Is it as good and does it get hot. Should I spend 40 more dollars to get the Aorus, but I don't want to, after all they are all the same GTX 1080 with different clock speeds and coolers.Question 5 - Is the Kingston A400 really good? Linus recommended it for a budget build. I could get the Kingston SSDNow or SanDisk SSD plus for a 9 dollars more but I am a little tight on budget, gonna grab whatever I get but if the difference in performance is massive, I might consider.Question 6 - Is the Seagate Barracuda 2tb 7200rpm good? There is also the consumer favorite WD Blue at the same price point, but it only has 5400rpm and theoretically 7200rpm delivers 33% higher speed. What are the features of WD that makes it so famous? For all I know it is not the price in my region.Question 7 - What should I name it? I am thinking 'Death Star' from Star Wars, a battleship the size of the moon that can destroy a whole planet at once. Any recommendations, it is going to be in black and green color on the outside and RGB on the inside. Overall, is this a good build? Both in performance and looks (except for the NH-D15, for which I prioritized performance over aesthetics and the Dark Rock Pro 3 is costlier in my region and the R1 Ultimate isn't available). I'm not keen on changing anything. This looks like it'll be able to play intense AAA title 80+ fps @ 1080p. Any help appreciated but experts who really knows their stuff are even better. Thanks in advance!!! : )

Okay so what are we looking at today? Today we will be taking a look at Intel's new Kaby Lake Processor, The i7-7700k and how much it benefits the average gamer. Now before I get into the review, Let me just say that I am combining my own opinion with valid facts, If the processor is bad, I'll say it's bad. Now, The specs on this processor is an improvement from Intel's i7-6700k, But not a huge one. Here it is: Now, The improvement is just the clock speed which is now 4.20 GhZ Compared to the 6700k's 4.00 GhZ. You may say "Wow that means my gameplay is going to be blazing fast!" Well not so fast. If you take a look at the benchmarks I grabbed from Game Debate, You can see that there is minimal improvement in Triple-A game titles such as Battlefield 1. (6700k with a Titan XP: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=9002&game=Battlefield 1&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i7-7700K+4-Core+4.2GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+Titan+X&ram=16&screenRes_width_FPS=1920&screenRes_height_FPS=1080&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements ) (7700k with a Titan XP: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=9002&game=Battlefield 1&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i7-6700K+4-Core+4.0GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+Titan+X&ram=16&screenRes_width_FPS=1920&screenRes_height_FPS=1080&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements ) When you look down at "Projected FPS" It is the exact same FPS for both processors! Okay so it's a crappy processor right? Not exactly. If you aren't upgrading your PC and just making your first build, I would still get the 7700k because Kaby Lake will soon support 4K UHD Which is good for videos, Not so much for FPS Increases:P Plus, a 0.20 GhZ increase counts for something right, and don't forget, Bragging rights. Okay what's your final answer? Don't upgrade your PC for this if you are a gamer. The FPS increases are non-existent. So there is no reason why you would do that. BUT, If you are making your first PC and you are deciding whether to get the 6700k or the 7700k, Get the 7700k, It's a faster clock speed, so some games like Half Life 2 who utilize single cores, would see a FPS Increase. What's your opinion? Would you put the i7-7700k in your first build? Let me know in the polls! Have a good day! -Lancelot G.

Hi Linus Tech Tips! It's been 6 years since my last build . This time I decided to do a HTPC build for lugging back and forth between countries. After having my gtx 1080 and ssd propped against my wall since Black Friday, I have gone out to purchase the rest of my parts for my system with the release of Kaby Lake, z270i Mini ITX mbs and have completed the build as of Mid-January. Cable management was quite a headache while building in this case. I highly recommend cable ties and shorter power cables if u are attempting a similar build. I also installed 2 Corsair Xtra Flo Slim 120mm fans (15mm in width) in front of the GPU chamber. GPU runs from 70 to 85 degrees and CPU runs from 68 degrees to 82 degrees while Gaming. I'm not sure if this is safe, would appreciate some help. Maybe it is just me who has not yet seen this method, but when I was researching the topic of delidding, the were a few methods, like a razor, or the hit-it-with-a-hammer-on-the-side method, but this guy makes it seem so natural like drinking water. Has anyone else seen/tried this method? Granted, the kit costs 80+ EUR, but damn it looks nice. Bonus: Delidding is (supposedly) of i7-7700K. More (German) info in the video description.

Rock <--------- Me---------> Hard place
Isle-Renner posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey all! I find myself in need of some friendly advice, so please help if you can! Super quick back story, started a build in 2016 and recieved a life changing injury to my back...now it's finally time to finish the build and I'm between a rock and a hard place. Here's why... I've already purchased - Corsair 780T case - MSI gaming M7 Z170A mobo - EK Monoblock for the Z170A MSI mobo 2x8Gb G.Skill Trident Z Silver/Red 3200mhz - EK PE360 rad - Bitspower 250 res w/ EK D5 pump, Bitspower black sparkle pump housing - Singularity Computers (AUS) Res to rad mounts (NOT CHEAP) Now....here we are in July 2019 and I am finally, and barely able to dedicate a bit of cash to finishing the build. What's the problem you ask? The issue I am facing is I have spent hundreds (CAD) on the mobo and ek monoblock, not to mention all the water cooling components not in the form of an AIO, and I am unable to use the newer Intel processors. I would love to buy an I7-9700k, but my MSI M7 Z170a wont accept it. I have been told I can run a I7-7700k if I update my BIOS. Otherwise, I'm looking at buying a new mobo...and having to try and sell my z170a & EK Monoblock, and either buy a new CPU waterblock or scrapping all my expensive cooling gear and yet again spend money on an AIO for another new mobo. Ugh. I'd like to run a RTX 2070 Super if I can get my hands on one, as well as a 144hz 1440p monitor. The PC will be used as my entertainment system, movies and music as well as World of Tanks, Battlefield 5 and a couple other common titles. IS IT WORTH GOING THROUGH ALL THAT!? Or should I just buy a I7-7700k and finish with the gear I've already invested in? Will I be missing out so much that I wouldn't enjoy the new system? Is a new Z390 w/ 9th gen chip nessessary to enjoy a RTX 2070 SUPER or 2080 at 1440p on high to ultra settings? VS Using an MSI Gaming M7 w/ I7-7700k? If you made it this far, I really appreciate your time and any feedback you can share with me. Thanks very kindly. Isle-Renner -
I'm trying to use ANY good looking low end shader pack with minecraft, but any pack i install causes my game to run at ~30fps, otherwise the game only runs at ~150fps. This is with render distance of 20. I am aware minecraft java edition is very unoptimized; I am aware shaders cause fps drops. As far as i know, all drivers and java are updated to latest. Hi, since i've got a brand new gpu (2080 ti yay) i was wondering if i would be able to overclock the heck of my cpu (5ghz) and wanted to get a 1440p 144hz monitor. For the cpu, it is a 7700k non delided, and the cooler is thermaltake floe riing 360 aio The monitors i've looked at are: 1.) Viewsonic XG2703-GS (30-165hz Nvidia G-Sync) 2.) AOC AG271QG (30-144hz Nvidia G-Sync) and non gsync one since recent nvidia freesync support 3.) Acer XB271HU (30-165hz Nvidia G-Sync) 4.) Asus Rog Swift Pg279q (165hz G-sync) So, any recommendations to the monitor, and for overclock, is it doable with a 360mm aio?, Also dont recommend any pixio or viotek monitors as im well aware of these being cheaper but... Europe is europe

I've been trying to figure out for a while if my AIO is performing incorrectly or if my CPU just naturally runs hot. I'm running a Intel i7-7700K with a Corsair H100i Pro, all details of system are in the UserBenchmark PDF if interested, or if it helps. After running Cinnabench I got max temps of 83°C (readings from HWMonitor) running a clock speed of just under 4.4Ghz. While in HWMonitor it was showing all the detailed readings such as the listed 83°C, in iCue, it was showing the AIO temp from 32-34°C, drastically different. While I'm not sure if that's the block temperature or loop temperature, it still seems way too different. I'll add some screenshots of the readings from the Cinnabench benchmark. I'm looking to figure out if it likely the cooling solution that has malfunctioned or if my CPU just runs that hot and the cooling solution is not the issue. Any help or insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Asus STRIX Z270H GAMING Performance Results - UserBenchmark.pdf

I did a benchmark test on my PC and my CPU is running at the 0 percentile. It is a relatively new system, and my processor is the Intel i7-7700k. I have cleaned my computer in the last few months, and I have made sure to close any background processes. I have also run malware and cleaned out all the threats that came up and its still running at this low percent. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what was happening. Thanks for any help! Here are the benchmark results: UserBenchmarks: Game 51%, Desk 51%, Work 35% CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K - 41.9% GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB - 71% SSD: WD Green 120GB (2016) - 63.1% HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA200 2TB - 96.9% RAM: Unknown CL16-18-18 D4-3000 2x8GB - 64.6% MBD: MSI Z270 GAMING PLUS (MS-7A75)

[ i7-7700K ] Can it be pushed harder?
TRITIUMNITR0X posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey all, The i7-7700K is one helluva CPU. These are my current results: This is a Prime95 stress test for about 20 minutes. Please pay no attention to the pedestrian RAM speeds. My XMP'd 3000 Mhz RAM defaulted to stock speeds after I swapped them to different DIMM slots, so that'll be fixed in the mean time. I'd like to know if my rig can withstand the CPU running at higher speeds than 4.7Ghz, which is where it is right now. I'd also like to know if I would need to push higher voltages to do so. System specs are in my profile. Thanks! -
Hello, I just got a new Monitor with 1440p and 144hz. And since I want to get a good ROI on that purchase im thinking about upgrading a bit. My current build is a Base Clock i7-7700k, a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW and 16GB of DDR4 ram. On games like Rocket League, CSGO and League I dont really have any problems obviously but when it comes to games like Ghost Recon Wildlands or Battlefield I dont even get to 100+ FPS on high settings 1080p. The Problem I have is that im unsure if I should go for 2x GTX 1080 or get a newer Card, also my CPU is struggling from time to time so im debating whether going for a save OC of like 5ghz is sufficient or if that needs a replacement too. Im thankful for any recommendation on this topic. Thanks

Hey guys, I am having issues with my overclocked i7-7700K. I Overclocked him to 4.8 GHz at 1.27V. The Problem is that I am always running hot, even though I already upgraded to a NZXT Kraken x72 that runs on perfectly fine 33°C water temp tested with both stock thermal paste and thermal grizzly kryonaut applied. I double checked on that and they were/are pretty much perfectly applied. I have the feeling that the thermal conductivity between the heatspreader and die of the CPU are the problem, as as well one of the cores is running about 5-15 °C higher than the others under load while the water temp still sits at 33°C (only tested in short runs ~2 mins). Could that be the case? I Don't really want to kill my CPU while delidding but with these temps I probably gotta stop overclocking which is kinda a nogo as well.

Hey all, So.. this is my final product! (Aside from the desk that I'm currently in the process of changing). What do you think? What are your critiques? Which hardware is a primary bottleneck? (According to TheBottleneck.com, my CPU needs to be upgraded to the i9-7980XE in order to keep up with my twin GTX1080Ti's. Is that seriously my best option? I know that the i7-8700k would technically be a good choice to upgrade to, but I'm not looking to buy it, due to how long it's been available. I'm just trying to play things smart and not buy anything that'll be topped within the next 6 months.) So I'm in a little pickle right now so i'm torn between upgrading to an INTEL I7-7700K from the RYZEN 5 1600 can you help and i don't want to upgrade to ZEN+ or Coffee Lake the only reason i chose the I7 cuz a friend is selling it for cheap

I am planning on upgrading my cpu. My current one is an i5-4670k with an hyper EVO 212 for cooling. My question is whether I should get the 8700k or 7700k? Is the latest and greatest worth the extra little money? My plan is souly for gaming on this CPU. The games I like to play are battlefield and arma3 (if that matters). So, is it overkill to get the 8700k? I just want to make sure I have an amazing CPUs that won’t need to be switched out for a while.

Not sure if this is the best place to put this but it's still technically liquid cooling. So, I have my i7-7700k overclocked on the ASUS Z270-E motherboard (BIOS 1302) to 4.8GHz @1.25V and I'm having some trouble with the temperatures that I'm seeing from my Corsair H110i cooler. Typical loads and stress tests put the average temperature at around 80°C with the occasion spike up to 88°C. It has been rock steady as an overclock but yesterday I had to force restart my system when playing Monster Hunter: World (system fully locked up) I have no idea what temperature the CPU reached whilst I was gaming as I have had this OC for months. When I restarted my system I got a BIOS error for CPU temperature. Looking in the BIOS my CPU temperature was still up at 61°C with a water temperature of 43-45°C (from cold boot this is usually around 28°C). Admittedly I had my cooler set to the quiet setting so 2300rpm on the pump and 1100-1800rpm on the fans (Corsair ML140 pros) depending on load. For now I have reduced my overclock to 4.6GHz @1.2V to be safe followed by setting the pump to performance (2800rpm) and my temperatures went down to 70-75°C under Monster Hunter load (monitored via HWinfo64 on second screen). Do these temps look like a potentially failing pump to you. If you reckon it's on its way out do you have any recommendations on coolers to replace it with. Additional info: Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M (glass) 2x140mm intake fans (provided with case) EVGA 1080TI FTW3 GPU No other exhaust fans apart from CPU cooler. If you need any more info I'd be happy to share what I can remember.
