The Dutch laptop builder BTO(Build to order) is about to lanch a laptop with the option for destop CPU and 4k screen. As a option you can add a i7-4790k or i5-4690k. There is a option for a 4k screen to. If this will only fit the 17" or the 15" version to as not a 100% clear at this point. The system will carry a nVidia 970M or a nVidia 980M. They will ad a third option soon. This is probably a 965M. But this GPU is not yet announced by nVidia. Hello, I need advice on ram. Its been a very long time since i built a pc and have been out of the loop for sometime now. This is what im building: Asus Maximus 7 hero motherboard with i7-4790k Being cooled by a noctua nh-d14 I am looking for 16gigs that will fit given the tight space of the cooler. Anyone have this setup and have any advice? *sidenote: I seen this recommended online (having to manipulate fan higher on cooler) but i cannot find measurements to verify- http://www.corsair.com/es-mx/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-1600mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a1600c9r Thanks for your help!

I recently posted a thread about a new AMD build... but I scrapped that idea and a few guys helped me come up with this build instead. Please bear in mind I already have a bunch of hard drives and ssd's so No I don't need anymore. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qZYxkL Also bear in Mind I plan on overclocking my cpu, this pc is going to be mainly used for PC gaming and video editing. £1500 budget. Running 2 Monitors. Only 1080p Why am I upgrading? Because my current build is over 2 years old and I like building PC's... duh

I did not research or anything but wouldn't it make sense that the LGA1150 motherboards from a store would be updated to the bios where you can use intel's devil's canyon CPUs? Maybe like a new Rev [ex. Gigabye GA-z87n-WIFI (Rev 2.0)] I am probably wrong

Hello guys I had my build for 2 weeks now I had it built in a local store because I don't have that much experience in PCs, I was very happy with the performance until a guy told me that I am not getting enough FPS on my games OS: Windows 8.1 (64Bit) CPU: i7 4790K 4.0 GPU: iChill Geforce GTX 970 4GB Ultra 1178Mhz M/B: ASRock z97 Extreme6 Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 8GBx2 1600Mhz HDD: WD Blue 1TB SSD: Corsair LX 128GB P/S: Aerocool GT 500W GOLD On Battlefield 4 on 1080p Ultra settings and 4xMSAA I get 60 Fps, same thing with Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Skyrim. and here is the 3dmark benchmark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5257746 Sorry if there is something not clear, my English is not that good.

I'm designing a computer for my mom. Right now she has a Lenovo Ideapad Y570. She's had it for about 5 years now. It has an Intel i7-2630QM running at 2GHz and 8 gigs of RAM. The thing is borderline unusable. It takes a solid 5 to 10 minuets to fully boot and once it finally does it's a nightmare to use. The RAM sits at 41% at idle and the CPU rockets up to 100% when you try to do anything. I've tried cleaning on multiple occasions and it barley helps. I can't reinstall because it didn't come with a backup disk and Lenovo wants us to pay for one. So I figure it's beyond time to upgrade. She uses it to serf the web, use turbo tax, use excel and she refuses to give up her ridicules desktop apps like calenders and weather apps and what ever the hell ells she has on there. This is what I’ve come up with. She likes really small cases so The Inwin H-Frame Mini is perfect but I’m concerned about the PSU. It's only 180w and as far as I know it's proprietary. She wants to run dual monitors and I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with on board graphics so I was quit pleased to find this tiny MSI 750ti. The only problem is while the card is single slot and half height the cooler is raised a little above the rear bracket and I’m not sure it'll fit because of it. I plan on under clocking the RAM for some added stability. I picked it mostly because it matches the board so nicely. As far as I know it's not too tall. The CPU is something that's really giving me pause. I'd like to get the price down some but I don't know how well an i5 or i3 would handle larger Excel sheets or turbo tax. I feel like an i3 wouldn't be enough but I was thinking an i5-4690s for it's low TDP. It would lessen the load on the PSU and be more manageable heat wise in such a small case. So to get to the point. Would the i5-4690s be enough, will the graphics card fit and will the PSU be able to Handel it all? Any suggestions on lowering price are welcome too. Overall I think this would be a pretty cool little computer. Would make a good media PC or steam box or even a cool gaming rig if you're tight on space in a dorm or something. Not really the point of this question, was just a thought. Hello Everyone, Yestarday I left my house for about an hour and left my computer on. I got Home and at first I was talking to My Mother Until I noticed my Computer Randomly Shut Down and the CPU Fans Ramped up to Full speed. I got worried. I noticed afterwards the Computer tried to boot up 2-3 More Times (My Keyboard LEDs were going On then off.) Until the Computer Quit Trying. At First I thought it was just some External Cords were Bumped (i.e. Surge Protector, Power Cord) But that wasn't it. Then I looked at the internal Cords, They looked fine too. I even Pressed down on the CPU Power Cord and the 24 Pin Motherboard Connector to make sure they were in properly. I thought the Motherboard or Power Supply Failed until I saw that my Blue LED Mouse was still Illuminating when being plugged into the the motherboard USB Port. (Light usually illuminates when the system is off.) Then I noticed On My Corsair H100i, On My Top Fan (My Corsair H100i is Mounted in the front of the case) My Top Fan had a little liquid on it, I touched it and noticed it was very oily. So I started to think I had a Coolant Leak, but then upon removing my CPU Block, The CPU looked fine as I saw no coolant and just the CPU. (Though the Coolant looked damp, It was just only installed in January) Also Upon inspecting my CPU Block, there wasn't any Green Coolant leaking out the sides as people have reported in the past. In the days leading up to this I did notice Strange Behavior as my CPU was Blue Screening a lot after updating my Bios to the newest Version. The Upgrade was from Version 1.9 to 2.0. I also was starting to play around with Voltages (Under Volting for better temps) but the system was unstable even when I set the Voltage Input to "Auto". So I set the Motherboard back to the Default setting of 1.9v. The Blue Screens Stopped, and now Two Days Later you can see the system has downright Failed. I'll have pictures coming soon, but for now all I have is a picture of my system from BEFORE I did Cable management so the cables look messy. I'll also have a close up of the Liquid found on the Corsair H100i soon. Thanks everyone for your help in advance. EDIT: Here is a Video of the PC Failing to start: http://youtu.be/YZyUiByubZA EDIT 2: A friend told me to add the detail that when I was Under Volting, I at one time set the Voltage to 1.22v (Not knowing that Input doesnt equal core Voltage.) and upon starting the PC failed to start until AsRock Bootguard reset the settings to default and allowed me to start up my PC once again. My Friend has just now taught me that Under Volting can also damage hardware.

Hello all, I made a post a couple days ago about my PC build, and I got ALOT of GREAT feedback! I'm coming back again, just so I can get LinusTechTips' one last opinion on my (I guess) final parts for my Computer. I was also posting around other forums to get more feedback. So, once again, here is what my computer is for: Games, Video Editing with software such as Premier Pro, Schoolwork (Shouldn't be a problem), Streaming using like XSplit or OBS. Games I play are like: World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online, Dark Souls, CSGO, League, Osu!, Far Cry, Battlefield (Though I can't run BF4 or Hardline on my current PC D: ) I do alot of editing for Schoolwork on Premier Pro, so as long as the PC can handle having to render 20min videos with Computer Graphics, it's golden! My budget was around $1,500 - $1,800, but $1,800 was the MAXIMUM extent I would go to. Hopefully I chose the right parts to try and cut down on cost, without losing performance as much. I wanted this computer to be as forwards compatible as possible, maybe replacing the case and that's about it, kinda stuff. Keeping alot of the parts when newer parts come out. I also need a Wireless connection. Here is my (hopefully final) build parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dbfmzy CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($341.98 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($103.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($120.87 @ Amazon) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($89.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($76.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card ($352.98 @ Newegg) Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($111.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($116.81 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($102.98 @ Newegg) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($27.99 @ Newegg) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($27.99 @ Newegg) Total: $1559.54 Intro I'm not so worried about the components anymore, as most of the hardware I picked were from countless feedback from LinusTechTip Uses and others, so I feed pretty confident it will be a kick a** computer to use. I'm more worried about cooling, and other things that may cause this build to not be as great. Cooling The 4 fans I am buying are for the front and side panel fans. Mounting 2 120mm fans on the front for intake, and the ones on the side panel, and the rear for Exhaust. Airflow should kinda look like this: For the Corsair H100i, I shouldn't have to buy 2 more fans for a more effective cooling correct? The two 120mm fans that come with the Radiator SHOULD work pretty well. If you think not, why would I need to get two more fans? Should I get the H100i GTX for better performance? I am worried it will not fit in the top of the NZXT 410 since the H100i GTX is 125mm x 276mm x 30mm where the regular H100i is 120mm x 275mm x 27mm. The H100i definitely fits, since I have seen many, many people do it, so I can safely say that that will fit. Its just a little larger, but I am worried it won't fit. I called up support on this issue, and they said that they only support radiators up to 240mm. But BOTH the H100i and the H100i GTX are marketed as "240mm" radiators. But they are both actually larger in dimension, as shown above. Does the "Radiator Size" the support person was talking about not include the parts that juts out with the Water Pipes? Maybe that would make the difference with the marketed 240mm size, but have a dimension of the ones listed above? I dunno... Anyone out there know more than me about this topic? Dust I was also really wanting to keep this computer for a long time. So to help with some of the clean up, I decided to search around for dust filters. I found a site for complete custom filters for specific cases, so I am probably going to buy the Complete Dust Filter Kit. NZXT 410 Dust Filters I have a question: Do dust filters hinder or help the system? I feel like it may cause the fans to lose airflow inside the case. If anyone can help me understand, it will be greatly appreciated. GPU and Fitting Now, I do know that the GTX 970 will not fit unless I remove the extra drive bays, but personally, I am completely fine with that. I only have a SSD and a HDD, so using only the two drives at the bottom is fine. If you think otherwise, please feel free to explain. Please If you have any questions, comments, or opinions, please feel free to provide feedback! Thank you very much for your continued help and feedback! Kaz

Hello! I've never built a PC before but after watching Linus and other Youtubers build PCs I've decided to give it a go. I've been researching heaps on what parts are good value for money, but I’d really appreciate some feedback from the LTT community before I purchase! 1. Budget & Location Location = Australia / $AUD Budget = $2,000.00 (plus or minus $100) 2. Aim/Purpose This computer will be used for 60% work and 40% gaming so it needs to be well rounded. For work I use a lot of MS Office, CRMs and productivity tools but will be starting video recording/editing later this year. (Mostly screen capture with voice and annotations). For gaming I play a mixture of RPGs, RTSs, MOBAs but no FPS. 3. Monitors I currently have one ASUS 24” LCD monitor (I think TN panel). It’s 1080p and 60 Hz so I only need a GPU to play at this resolution. I do want to play on High or Ultra settings. I am planning to sell and replace the GPU in the future - more on that below. 4. Peripherals None. I'm going to buy a Corsair K70 RGB keyboard but that’s not included in the cost of this build. I don’t need anything else. 5. When/Why are you upgrading? I'm planning to buy these parts in late-July 2015. (Most of them never go on sale) I'm upgrading because my current desktop PC is OLD. Like Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz running Windows XP (slowly) old. I use my work laptop (Asus N550) for nearly everything. 6. Future Upgrades In mid-late 2016 I’m planning to upgrade the following, so I need this build to be compatible with the future parts: (1) Monitor to 27” IPS 1440p resolution Panel (maybe 2 monitors); and (2) GPU to run new monitor(s) - probably a Nvidia GTX 980Ti Here are the parts: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($464.00 @ Centre Com) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($115.00 @ CPL Online) Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($205.00 @ IJK) Memory (Option 1): G.Skill TridentX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($209.00 @ CPL Online) Memory (Option 2): Kingston Savage 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($189.00 @ CPL Online) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($150.00 @ Umart) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($70.00 @ IJK) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($239.00 @ Mwave Australia) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($159.00 @ CPL Online) Power Supply: SeaSonic 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($189.00) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($135.00 @ CPL Online) Case Fan: Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140mm Fan ($29.00 @ PLE Computers) Case Fan: Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140mm Fan ($29.00 @ PLE Computers) Total: $2182.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-07-19 15:00 AEST+1000 Questions: 1. I want 16GB RAM but I’m not sure which of the two RAM kits to get (I listed them both) The G.Skill TridentX has better CL timings (8-9-9-24) vs the Kingston Savage (9-10-11-?) but I don’t know if it's worth the cost. Which one should I get? Or should I get something else? 2. Is the Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3GB the right GPU? I only need it for 1080p gaming. Happy to take suggestions for other ‘value’ GPUs. 3. I'm planning to upgrade the GPU in mid-late 2016 so I need a PSU that can handle a more powerful GPU. Is 650W enough? I have no plans for SLI. 4. I want a fairly silent PC so I’ve picked Noctua CPU Cooler and Case Fans. I’m not keen on water cooling. I also don’t mind the ‘ugly’ colours since this is not a windowed case. Is this the right number of fans for this motherboard and case? What do you think? Is this a good build? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hi guys new to the PC gaming and building here. I am planning on getting a new gaming PC next month and had a few questions. The parts I picked are the following (no PC Partpicker because I live in the Netherlands) Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker with window CPU : i7-4790k CPU cooler: Cryorig R1 ultimate RAM: 8 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming SSD: Crucial MX100 256 GB 2.5" Power supply : Corsair RM 750W HDD: Seaate Desktop 1 TB 3,5" Optical drive Windows 8.1, Office, Keyboard and Screen included aswell but wont mention here. My Questions are: 1. Any advice for the RAM? I need a low enough RAM to fit becuase the R1 Ultimate has RAM clearance issues so no go on high profile RAM. 2. Will the PC be cool enough or do i need to add extra case fans? Thanks in advance

Hi everyone. I am new here but I hope that I've chosen the right category. I am about to buy components to build a video editing/3D work computer. I want to point out that my budget is limited. I faced a problem when searching for a power supply. My component's are: I7-4790K MSI Z97 U3 PLUS (?) Nvidia GTX 760 HyperX FURY DDR3 8GB 1600MHz CL10 WD Red 1TB hard drive (planning to add a few more int the future) basic CD/DVD drive I have calculated my expected power consumption (with the CPU overclocked to 4,7 GHz) and it came at about 460W. The "recommended" PSU wattage for GTX 760 is about 500W. I am not going to run SLI or Cross Fire. I was thinking about choosing something like Corsair VS 550W or Corsair Corsair CX 600W. I confused because I saw that other people buyPSU-s more powerful than 650W even when building an i5 and GTX 660 systems. What do you think? Thanks.

I recently got an i7-4790K Since it is the unlocked version, I was thinking of overclocking it. But Im on a tight budget, and z87 or z97 are expensive (especially since my Rig right now is ITX and i want to keep all of it except the CPU and Motherboard) I did some research and read that you can now overclock on the non z chipsets. Is this true? If this is true, can i get some suggestions on what i should get. I need an ITX LGA1150 motherboard that is capable of OCing my i7 and is not z87 or z97. I have a budget of around $100 Cad. If I need to get z87 or z97, I can wait a few weeks.

So I'm getting the list and materials together for this buld but i need some opinions and suggestions on this! Especially for the motherboard selection as well as RAM! http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ilya2006/saved/X7f2FT There's the list for all the parts! Thanks!

Performing a new build for a customer got a asus maximus 5 hero, i7-4790k at stock speeds and a corsiar h110 with noctua NF-A14 FLX fans but im getting less then ideal temps in stress testing worried there is a fault some wheres, the bios has been updated to 1104 the newest one all drivers up to date on the system. When running Pime95 i select the option for max heat output it hits anywheres from 88-92C if i run the blended test its 71-74C and if i run intel burn test im getting around 75C as well, i dont know what stress testing slick did but in there review of this chip they were getting low 70's with a h100 and the video for the performance review for the h110 on a i7-3970 the h110 scores a temp high or 66 so what gives, advice, Fans are max while i try to id the issue top mounted with the nactua fans in pull Correction: Sorry i didn't check my understanding of roman numerals the maximus 7 (VII) hero And at the same time it still idles at 31 so its doing something at the very least.

So i bought an Intel I7-4790k and used the stock cooler from Intel, until i could afford a liquid cooling solution. I knew that i was going to overclock it at some point, and out of curiosity, i ran it through a stress test to see how high the temperatures would be. I was very surprised that at stock clock, the cores would be about 98-100 degrees celcius. I know that the stock cooler isn't good at all, but even then, is it normal to reach those temperatures at stock clock?

hey guys, I'm really not active in this community, but i'm askin for help so i'm calling out to those goodhearted netizens of this community. Here's the problem I'm building another pc for gaming so that my brother can also join in the fun without any issues due to his laptop being overheating and stuff. I'm planning on having a Maxmus VII formula for the mobo and a i7-4790k for the cpu, then 2xgtx 980. Since the 4790 can only have a maximum of x16 then my two gpu's would be both running in sli at x8-x8. I have an extra Creative SBX ZxR card since i recieved one as a gift but i already had one. And now i'm planning to use it on this build. So what i'm asking is if the extra Soundcard would work? and then why would it? sorry for the why i'm not to savvy on hardware stuff just software  thank you in advance

Hello all. I just rebuilt my computer (about a week ago) and I have been monitoring it for a while. I put an Intel Core i7-4790K in it, and it's starting to concern me because the temperatures seem a bit high. I am using the stock cooler, but I am not planning on overclocking, so I thought that would be fine, at least for the time being... Unfortunately, according to Core Temp, my CPU temperature seems a bit high... The current temperatures and load of each core are listed below. Core 0: 2% - 46° C Core 1: 1% - 40° C Core 2: 0% - 38° C Core 3: 0% - 39° C And that's with almost no load... That seems a bit high to me... Currently I am not at my computer, I am connecting to it via Remote Desktop Connection. When I am at the computer, they are about 10 degrees hotter under approximately the same load. Additionally, it seems as though Intel Turbo Boost is active almost all the time, again, even when there is almost no load, which seems abnormal for a 4.0 GHz CPU... When my computer is under load, (playing games, around 20-40% load on each core) I am seeing temperatures of 70°-90° C, which seems really high. I am currently running Windows 8.1 x86_64, but I see similar results under Mac OS X 10.9. Any advice or explanation as to what is happening here would be greatly appreciated.

I am struggling to pick between the I7-4820k and the I7-4790k. So i would like your opinion on which is better with gaming.

Hi everyone. This post is so I could maybe get some feedback from "hopefully" advanced builders. This is my planned config.Disclaimer: Right now, the I7-4770k is selected; I plan on using an I7-4790k! This build will be used for gaming; video editing and general workloads. I composed my parts with reliability and stability in mind. This is the reason why i went the Sabertooth Series and the AX760i; They both have stability, reliability and nice looks. You've got to admit: Sabertooth just looks so good ! What would be the recommended and maximum amount of voltage for an i7-4790k? I am planning to OC it as much as possible without frying it under 4 years.

I have an i7-4790K and a Cooler Master Hyper 212X in a push-pull config. CPU and here are the temps: Idle temps are at: 35-40C (95-104F) Prime95 temps: Ave.: 65C (149F) Max: 72C (162F) Ambient temps here are at 27C-30C (81-86F)

Hey all. So I'm planing on Upgrading soon and thought it was best to ask some pros on what they think of the products I intend to buy. A second opinion never hurt( and a smarter opinion) I plan on playing Games, games and games. I love my games I have 2 monitors. One at 24 inch and the other at 23 inch. Both are 1920x1080. My current build is this: CPU: Intel Core i7-3770k GPU: EVGA GTX 690 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Memory: 16BG G.SKILL Value Series SSD: 256BG Samsung 840 PRO Series HDD: 2TB Western Digital Some would say that the GTX 690 it's worth it, but I saved for sometime to get the best and I'm happy with it. Now I plan on upgrading the CPU, Motherboard and Memory to CPU: i7-4790k RAM: just increasing to 32GB Motherboard: Asus Z97-A I'm also planing on picking up the Corsair Obsidian 750D case to house all of this. I'm just wondering if it's worth waiting for DDR4 and then get a new CPU and motherboard or if not wait, should I get better RAM over just getting more?? Are these parts good? will they bottleneck my GPU?? Cheers Guys!

So these are the components: - Intel i7-4790k - Corsair H80i w/ 2 Corsair SP120 Fans or NZXT Kraken X40 w/ 2 Corsair SP140 Fans - NZXT H440 case Note: No shop is selling the Kraken X41 if you'll be wondering why X40 is my choice. I'd like to keep the rads' size 120mm/140mm. I'll be overclocking and my target clock is 4.4/4.5GHz. I'm also planning to place the rad on the rear exhaust of the case and the fans in a push/pull configuration. Questions: 1. Can it do the target clock(4.4/4.5) without worrying about the temperatures even when under heavy load? 2. Which do you think should I go for? Corsair H80i or Kraken X40? 3. What do you think about my temperatures in idle for Corsair H80i or Kraken X40? Other suggestions are welcome. If you'll be suggesting another CPU Cooler, like I said I'd like to keep the rads' size 120mm/140mm but I'll consider the 240/280mm if I can't hit the target at safe temps. The bigger rads I've found in my area are: 1. NZXT Kraken X60 2. Swiftech H220 3. Corsair H100i 4. Corsair H110 Edit: Added a poll
