I am 24. I live in my Mothers backyard. In an RV. I am a low budget, low rent gamer. An enthusiast at heart. Buying PC parts at the thrift store I am simply looking for peeps to game, learn, and advance with. PC building has become a passion of mine. Something I always thought I knew about until I finally got my hands dirty. System: Corsair 230T (Rebel Orange) Asrock z170 Fatality Gaming K4 Mobo i3 6100 (OC'd to 4.1 Ghz via BCLK method) Powercolor RX460 2gb (Slight OC via TRIXX) 8GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR4 (1066 mhz) Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD 3TB HDD Note: I realize that this is a very "unbalanced" rig. This rig is intended as my "Future Proof" or "Future-Ready" machine. I currently play everything at 1080p. I plan to upgrade to a "k" Series cpu to fully utilize my z170 board once they drop in price a bit around Zen time. (Fingers crossed) I am currently saving up for a legit GPU, this one is getting me by just fine for now. Also looking for some decent BF1/BF4 players to hook up with. (US WEST SERVERS) Anyway... i was just stopping in to say Hi. Let me know if you have any question about living in a RV in the dead of winter in your mother backyard. Or Let me know if you have any ideas for my setup (See Pictures). I am working with very limited space and built this desk into the bathroom of the RV. Happy gaming yall!

Ok, so I've been looking to replace my current laptop (Dell Inspiron 11 3147...would NOT recommend) with an Acer Aspire ES1 laptop (i3-6100u, Intel HD Graphics 520, 1366x768 15.6" screen). First...do Acer Aspire ES1 laptops have SATA III 6Gb/s? I want to know if it's worth it to stick an SSD in it at some point. Wanted to put an SSD in my Inspiron at one point, but I found out that it has an old SATA II port (YUCK) instead of SATA III. I don't want to run into that problem again. Second, what games will the Acer machine be able to run? I know that it has integrated graphics...I'm not expecting anything spectacular. But how will it do on games like Civ V and Portal 2? Can it run Civ VI or Rocket League on minimum settings? As far as gaming goes, all I'm looking for in this laptop is being able to game while I'm on the go. I have an awesome gaming desktop at home, but I obviously can't use that when I'm not at home. Third, do you guys have any PC game recommendations? The Steam Winter Sale is coming up, and I would like to take advantage for some of the deals. I like shooters, RPGs, action/adventure games, strategy games, and arcade-style games. Thanks! --TechStorm

Hey Guys, I run my i3 6100 at 4.5Ghz (1.375v) (BLCK method) and my Crucial Ballistix (rated at 2400Mhz) at 2595Mhz (1.25v) on a Asrock Z170 Pro4 motherboard. I wanted to overclock my ram further as an i3 really benefits from it, but my system then became unstable. I assumed this instability came from the fact that my ram was only rated at 2400Mhz, and it couldn't overclock any further. Standing by this assumption, I went out and bought 16GB of Corsair Vengeance rated at 3000Mhz (1.35v) Problem is, I still can't take my ram past 2666Mhz, even with the new Vengeance sticks rated at 3000mhz. I went around and did some searching online and discovered my motherboard can handle up to 3866+mhz ram (wtf who needs that). I also read about IMC (Internal Memory Controllers) in Skylake chips. I am now at the conclusion that I got really unlucky and got an i3 with a bad IMC. (Can only handle up to 2666Mhz) I know Skylake is only officially listed to handle up to 2133mhz, but i've never heard of anyone being stuck at 2666 max before... Am I screwed until I get an i5/i7? Or is there anything I can try to make this work. All replies are appreciated! Cheers! UPDATE #1 At stock speeds, (3.7Ghz) I can discovered I can run the ram at around 2800Mhz max. But when I try to run the same speed at 4.5Ghz I don't even POST. Maybe this info is helpful?

Hi! Do you think an i3 2100T would be OK passively cooled in a mini itx case (front intake and rear exhaust), under mostly medium load with a larger cooler? I've got a cooler master 212 evo style cooler without a fan. Cheers.

Hello all, So I was wondering, how is it possible that the i3 is debated as the best budget gaming pc CPU at around $117 USD when just around the corner there is the AMD FX 8350 for $30 extra. The FX is quad core with 4.0 ghz vs the i3 which is dual core and clocks at 3.7 so how the heck is intel better???? Thanks so much!

I am looking for a cheap (£350 ~ $430)laptop with an i3 and a 1080p display. It's use will be day to day stuff (Internet browsing....) and also to watch movies when on a plane so it also needs to have s good battery life and preferably with an ssd, but not vital that it has one. I have a looked at some from hp and lenovo but I can find anything. Thanks

Hi, I am looking to do a bit of upgrading of my PC that I built earlier in the year. This is it : https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/tassmeister/saved/GYxH...I am thinking of maybe getting an i5, or a cpu cooler or both? (is a cpu cooler necessary for an i3)I also only have a 1600x900 monitor and want to buy a 1080p monitor though am not sure when I should do that.Dont have the biggest budget as I am a student but I will save up i guess.Basically just looking for your opinions on the build. Also the games that I play are Watch Dogs, Rust, and The Forest. ( they all run perfectly fine atm, not on the highest settings though)Thanks in advance

Will a core i3 bottleneck a gtx 1060? I've been very curious about this for a long time and it has been recently brought up by cousins cause he was thinking of upgrading a to a 1060 considering he is running a i3.

This is my Christmas build, with photos. I am using an i3-6100 with a Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler, a GTX 645 from my old Dell Alienware X51 R2, a Micro Star SLI Plus Z170 motherboard, and a/an EVGA 500W PSU. It was all put in a Mastercase 5.I despise those colorful cables and plan to get an 850W Platinum PSU from EVGA. I plan to upgrade to an i5-6600k@4.2+ GHz and get a/an EVGA 1060 FTW.
-
Hello there! I have built a from parts that I received for Christmas. The parts are as follows: I3-6100@3.7GHz MSI Z170 SLI Plus EVGA 500W 2* Seagate 2TB HDD in Raid 0 Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 Cooler Master Masterbox 5 I have already ordered a Samsung 960 Evo 250 GB to use as my main drive, but for now I am stuck with my Raid HDDs. I hope to get a GTX 1050ti 4 GB or a GTX 1060 3/6GB from EVGA to use, until then I use the Intel HD 530. I know the cooler is overkill for an i3, but I plan to eventually get an i7-6700k. Under load I get about 40*C maximum temps with the fans at 500-900RPM. It's very quiet
-
So I was doing a very intensive task for around 5 minutes, rendering a video. But when I looked at HWMonitor's CPU temps, I was shocked? Is this safe? Take a look at those CPU temps! 100 degrees! The CPU didn't slow down at all during the process, consistently at ~85% usage. Is this safe? SOWORRIED :(:(:( Is there a way to speed up my Intel stock cooling fan to keep my CPU cool?

Welcome to the WCCF Salt mine tour, Please keep your arms & Legs & head inside the salt-mines ride at all times The Upcoming series of intel CPU's are promising real gems , the new line up for the first time is putting out one of its i-3 version of the mainstream entry level cpu with it's cores unlocked! The Intel Core i3 7350K benchmark scores have been leaked from a source & it looks promising , The new chip is aimed at a better gaming budget platform & looking at this results it is supposed to be as powerful as an unlocked i5 from previous years The Core i3 7350K is to run at 4.2GHz speed out of the box These scores when compared to the previous generation i5-6400 score of 9982 & i5-4670K score of 10036 promises a significant performance bump if it's true in a real world scenario http://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/1107343 i3-7350K has a dual-core with four threaded processor with a base clock of 4.0GHz that can be boost up to 4.2GHz, 4MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 91 watts. The CPU is allegedly going for a retail price of $177-$180 range according to some sites, expect to pay a minimum of that The i7 & i5 Lineup specs sheet Core i7-7700K Core i5-7600K Process 14nm Plus 14nm Plus cores: 4 4 Threads: 8 4 Base clock speed: 4.2GHz 3.8GHz Max clock speed: 4.5GHz 4.2GHz L3 cache: 8MB 6MB Max power draw: 91 watts 91 watts socket: LGA 1151 LGA 1151 Price: $350 $240 Something with a performance ticks like this was introduced back on the intels anniversary edition pentium processor G3258 Pentium Anniversary cpu which managed to be seriously budget friendly & delivered good enough gaming performance for budget users when it came to gaming , some alleged it to reach near AMD's thingamagig numbers like 5ghz This is the only leaked benchmark i could find on the site so far, will update soon , The AMD's beast of a CPU code named zen is to be out this January , would be interesting to see this going head to head with it, Thanks for visiting the salt mines , Leave Your thoughts, Comments & Concerns down there Source: http://wccftech.com/intel-preparing-unlocked-i3-7350k-42ghz-dual-core-cpu/

So, I was attempting to export a video file, when all of a sudden, the progress just freezes. I restarted the program (Camtasia Studio 9) and tried, again. This time it froze at 0.1%. I restarted the computer, went into my BIOS and checked the temps for throttling. It was fine, 52 degrees on idle, just after restart. Opened up HWMonitor for temps and Task Manager. When I began the export, the CPU usage was at fine for a second, using around 80% and then dropped back down to 3%. It did not let the program access the CPU power. The CPU wasn't throttling either, a solid 65 degrees on CPU in HWMonitor. So what's happening? Why can't my video program access the CPU? It's almost as if it is restricting the program. Malware perhaps? I have a picture.

I'm building on a strict budget and they're both roughly the same price where I live. I've weighed out the pros and cons of the two processors (I'm leaning towards the i3 for a superior upgrade path and newer architecture, but the i5 3570k's 4 cores are just irresistible), but I'd like to know what you guys think! Thanks in advance.

hello, i am now thinking i want go intel. so i would need a board and cpu.i have ddr3 1866 ram already so the board would need to fit that. I need to find the best performance mobo cpu combo that will fit ddr3. any ideas? budget is 300.

So finally I am upgrading my sandy bridge build and got some cash selling it. I will be getting Asus H110D mobo and kingston 4gbx2 ddr4 and i already own the gtx 750ti OC however when it comes to the processor I'm confused as what to do. I know the best bet will be i5 6500 but that is $70 more than i5 6400 & 6402P in my country therefore out of my budget. i have to choose between i3 6100 @3.7 ghz OR i5 6400 at base clock 2.7ghz or i5 6402P at 2.8ghz... the only difference between the 6400 and 6402 is the 6402p is 100mhz faster and has 60% better integrated graphics(wont be using this now but who knows in the future i might). is the 100mhz really worth it over 6400? there's only $8 difference between the 6400 and 6402p. also the i3 6100 is dual core but clocked significantly higher. pls help. my primary uses are daily computing, GTA5, cities skylines , mafia 3 somewhat and occasional gameplay editing for when i kill dem noobs for youtube

Is the i3 6100 and nice upgrade for my Athlon x4 860k? I want to jump onto the Skylake platform. I basically only play Overwatch so I need a cpu that can run it on the higher settings.
-
Should I get an i5-6500 or an i3-6100? I've compared both CPUs at the link below and the i3 isn't very far from the i5 at 'desktop' while there's a pretty significant difference under 'gaming' and 'workstation' factors. Price is a HUGE factor as I am planning on a very tight budget build. Comparison link: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-6500-vs-Intel-Core-i3-6100/3513vs3511

Hi, would there be any scenarios where an i3-8100 be better than an i5-8400T in gaming? The i3 has a constant clock speed of 3.6GHz while the 8400T has a base clock of 1.7Ghz and a boost clock of only 3.3GHz. I play mainly Wahammer: Vermintide 2 and Apex Legends with an RX 580. PassMark here. What would you recommend? Thank you.

Hello guys, long time listener, first time poster.... I complained recently that my office PC was running slowly so asked for a little money to upgrade things. We're not talking anything fancy here, all basic cheap office PC equipment. I bought some extra RAM, added a Discrete GPU (GF GT730 - calm down fast boy!!), added in an SD to replace the old mechanical drive and finally, upgraded from the old 1st gen i3-530 to an i7-870. All in all it's made a massive difference, although I think the SSD was the main factor for my woes, naturally everything here helped. My question is, could I have added in a newer gen i7 processor for any further significant gain? Looking at intel's website, it's not really clear what I should be looking for to ensure compatability. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark.html#@PanelLabel122139 I'm only occasionally doing a little photoshopping work and the odd, very small video edit so any extra processing power would be useful, and since I will be upgrading a colleague's PC (the same model as mine) I could give them my i7 and buy a cheeky newer version for myself. ;) This is my PC. Don't get too excited clicking that. Chipset is intel Q57 https://www.support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c02030592 When I upgraded I essentially looked at at the highest rated i7 on that list of bundled processors on this page, played it safe and bought that one, it was nice and cheap but it has helped A LOT, but if it's possible to go newer/faster, I'm all ears.

so im building a new mini ITX system, and was wondering if the Stock Intel Cooler is powerful enough to take on the Intel Core i3 8100. This is meant to be budget as well, sub 500 preferably. Thanks
