This magnificent specimen was meant to be my new living room media-pc. Everything was going fine, upgraded to win10, setup speedfan, temps were nice 40-45 celsius considering how bad the ventilation is in the case. The processor in this thing is AMD Athlon X2 215. Decided to change that 10 year old thermal paste and after that everything went right down to the s*itter.. Speedfan couldnt keep up with the temps and fan couldn't bring them down, even at full blast cpu temp was climbing to 70c! Tried reapplying four more times with different amounts of paste and screw tensions, couldnt get to windows as pc did emergency shutdown, final bios reading was 68c, and continued rising. One of the heatsink screws finally stripped the mount hole because of the repeated attempts to get it to work, but i just dont understand what went wrong here in the first place? Is the cpu now broken? do i need a new heatsink? WTF!

I just got myself a T440p and learned I can fit an M.2 SATA SSD and can easily buy a Transcend one with a capacity up to 512GB on eBay. However, to ensure it doesn't throttle, I would need a good heatsink so I looked online for the best M.2 heatsinks which are, of course 2280s so I would have find a way or someone to saw them in half. I learnt all about it here. https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=dT_xevPwKjo Though I'm wondering if I really need to settle for an expensive high-performance one or if a cheap and cheerful heatsink off of eBay would do just as fine.

Hello i'm in need of help so recently i just got a new Air Cooler Deep cool Gammaxx 400 EX recently. 1st accident: When i manage to pull it off the stock cooler the CPU was still attach to my Heatsink. I was able to pull it out (with a tiny bit of force) the attach CPU went flying off and bending 4 pins but i was able to repair/straighten it using a very tin needle. Luckily the CPU is still in working condition and was able to post. 2nd Issue: When i was done installing my new air cooler making sure it's tight but not too tight all of a sudden all of my games started Crashing, Freezing and FPS are going up and down. I was able to fixed the FPS and Freezing but the Crashing issue is still there. all pretty much all of my games are unplayable. Since i was able to fixed the FPS and Freezing issue. I open my Afterburner to check the CPU and GPU temps and usage for the crashing and so far this is what i got. while playing Elden Ring and GTA 5 CPU: temp 40c - 55c usage around 50% to 60% GPU: temp 60c to 70c usage 60% to 80% Idk what other info that i need to post so just let me know what to do so that i can provide more info. Here are my Specs: Ryzen 5 2600 (Stock was planning to OC when this happen) RX 6600 8gb 2x8GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM Seagate 1tb 7,500 rpm HDD Ramsta 120GB SSD B450 mortar Titanium BIOS version AMI BIOS - 7B89vAD 2020-06-16 Cooler Master mve 550w gold non-modular (This was the only PSU during covid i can get at that time) age 9 months old

Finally Some Results!: Geil VRM sinks came this morning, only two days late... Anyway, these sinks are pretty small and with a fan ghetted on the card pretty poorly, they still hit 103 degrees with furmark. However, in regular gaming, I am seeing 95s on average which is on par to the reference cooler that was on here. This post isn't about the core temps but I'm really happy with them. So this higher VRM temp is worth the sacrifice. Can I Make It Better?: I can certanly get rid of the thermal pads that came with the VRM sinks, replaceing it with a nice dolop of MX-4. Which could help with the temeratures. Moreover, placing a fan closer to the sinks will be much better. The original schems for the drawer build had me using the flow directly from the rads to cool the MOSFET, VRAM, RAM and VRMs but I think I am looking at adding more smaller fans into the mix. I suppose the two 200mm NZXTs I have hanging arround would suffice but they would wreck my airflow. Since this is by no means the finnished design I will not be posting in depth test results. Photos!: Whats Next?: Tomorrow moring I will be uploading some core temp readings and tomorrow evening there will be proper bench results. Using furmark and Vally most likely. In addition, I have H60 CPU temps to post on the drawer blog. As well as some mounting test images and other odds and sods. I'd apologise for the lack of content over the past few days but it's not like I've been slacking off. My main systems motherboard died, GA-990FX-UD5. Flat out broke, PC shut down mid youtube video and would not post. So I'm suing an MATX GA-78LMT-USB3 I theived out of my sisters build. Some good news though? I am going to be splurging and grabbing an Asus Formula V. So look forward to that blog. Thank You :)

Hi, hope you are doing good. I'm gonna first give a bit of context. I got an optiplex 3010 DT (2013 model) from used market at a relatively good price. It came with dell casing, dell motherboard, core i5 3570, 2*4 1600 mhz ddr3 ram, oem 260w psu, 250gb hdd and the kid I got it from probably added a gt 730 2GB ddr5 to it for some PowerPoint gaming (jk it's actually a good card it can run csgo and valorant pretty well at low) so anyways this costed me around 20,000 pkr which translates to around 100 usd. Now this is the first time I got a prebuilt so my happiness quickly faded when I realized that the motherboard is probably limited to only 50w of power because... Dell. When I booted it up it had linux installed which was a fresh installation and it started becoming... Weird. I thought maybe I don't really know how to use linux so I installed windows on it and then my suffering began. The computer randomly freezes and becomes paralyzed. Even during windows installation it just died and then I had to restart. First I thought maybe it's the hdd that's just getting slow because linux was warning about drive failure so I got an ssd. Fixed, right? No. It still continued to just randomly becoming paralyzed and what's weird was that when it "froze" I had to hard shutdown but then it would freeze while booting windows at the spinning circles. It would boot after I tried turning it off and on many times. I thought hey, it's gotta be the ram, right? Reseated the sticks same happened, cleaned them, same happened, tried putting them one by one each in different slots same thing happened replaced them entirely with working sticks the same thing still happened. Then my thought went to maybe the psu but it can't be. It doesn't "shut off" randomly it literally just dies and never recovers. I looked online and they suggested maybe unplugging every usb would do the trick but the same thing happened again and again. I finally thought well, it's definitely the motherboard then. I was randomly looking at the pc till I thought "huh, why is this die just bare? Shouldn't there be a heatsink and I touched the die, it was pretty freaking hot. I instantly knew this might be the culprit. I looked online and got to know it's called a southbridge chip. Now I don't know how long the person before ne used this pc as is with bare die. My only concern is if it has been permanently damaged. However I'm not sure if that is really the issue. Can anyone confirm if it's the southbridge that's causing the issue or is it something entirely else on the motherboard.

Hello everybody, Recently bought used 1080ti assembled by Zotac. Gpu looked fine, good old furmark ran fine and card was not overheating. Allegedly seller said it wasn’t disassembled. After returning home tried to play some games, they would crash. Some would work for a little. Cyberpunk never launched, always crash while loading benchmark. Most of benchmarks run fine. Tried drivers, DDU, bios flash, give case more air, stronger PSU, different systems. Card says it’s not overheating, decent 70 degrees. So I decided to disassemble it since I know I was scammed. Die and heatsink is wrecked. Is it beyond saving? What could be the issue with crashing? High temp pockets?

Recently I've been working on rebuilding a 780 TI that I got from one friend so I can give it to another friend, problem was the heat sink and shroud were detached without the original screws. I ordered a screw kit and eventually got M2.5"8 and that fit all of the holes. The problem is, for some reason the heat sink is not connecting directly, which can be told by the image below (note how the IHS has a square pattern where the heat sink has a smaller circular pattern). I'm not sure if it's just the screws not being long enough, as I screwed them in pretty tight to the point where I loosened them because it looked like the board was bending. I'm unsure what else it could be at this point so if anyone has any pointers or experience with something like this then that would be great!

cooling Heatsink Sizes for GDDR5 Memory & VRAM on Titan X Maxwell
Timotheus865 posted a topic in Cooling
I recently picked up a NVIDIA Titan X (Maxwell) for $50 on eBay, which did not come with the stock cooling shroud or fan. As a learning exercise, I figured I'd try to put together my own cooling solution, and I am heavily considering a Kraken G12 with a 120mm AIO (though the Raijintek Morpheus II is another interesting option). My question is what size of heatsinks should I use to help cool the VRAM & Memory chips? Since I'm not worried about going back to stock, I'd also like to hear about suggestions for thermal adhesives/ cement. -
Hello, One day I launched HWinfo and saw that my m.2 ssd was showing red temperatures. I freaked out and bought a heat sink. After doing tons of research it seems people agree a heat sink is a good idea but only on the controller NOT the NAND. However cooling the controller could spoof the nand into thinking its not hot and in return get much hotter? I also read that if you put a heatsink on it it can reduce the life of your ssd and I don't want that. What I do want is for my ssd to stay alive for as long as possible and not to be hot as I feel that would reduce lifespan as well. I never want it to throttle but I dont want to kill it! lol Well I ended up moving my m.2 underneath my gpu and installed it's drivers.. my temps are as follows IDLE (Itunes, Firefox open): TEMP2 usually likes to hang around 65-70 ( just updated cod and it jumped up to 70 in seconds) Gaming for 2 hours: I would like to put my heatsink on my m.2 however the first temperature seems to be my NAND and I think 48~ degrees is healthy, is this correct? If so If I put my heat sink on will this damage my NAND? For some reason my temps seem to be okay now? I don't like that my max temp is 75 or currently near 70 but again is this normal? I am just unsure.. Your feedback is appreciated Thank you!

I'm curious if I can somewhat easily use this old, massive (and dirty) heatsink from a KnC Neptune bitcoin miner on an AM4 CPU. I believe I can easily attach a 120mm fan to the flat side of the radiator fins. As shown in the photos, the contact area looks be about 32mm x 37mm. Possible? My biggest concern is how I securely attach it to the MB while ensuring correct contact with the CPU. This is my first attempt at a DIY heatsink so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

so which one should i pick for my upgrade Cooler Master Hyper 212 led or the Hyper 212 turbo? so my main question is, does the turbo version actually perfom better than the led version and how much the temperature difference between the single fan led version and the dual fan turbo version

So I have an old Asus G73jh and I believe the ancient mobility hd 5870 has kicked the bucket. I would like to replace it but the prices for 5870s are still pretty high for their age. ~$60 from China. For that same price I could get a used Dell AMD firepro m6100, heatsink from a Dell Precision m6800 (the model the m6100 is from) and some thermal adhesive. This gpu swap has been successful before with a firepro m6000, hd 6970m and a few others. I assume it will work with the m6100. The issue is getting the heatsink to fit. In the past people have used the stock heatsink of the new gpu and swapped the heatpipes. I use a heatgun to remove the heatpipes. That's the easy part. My question is can I use thermal adhesive to reattach the heat pipes from the 5870 onto the heatsink of the m6100? Solder would be best but I'm not great at it. Would thermal adhesive be Able to transfer enough heat to the pipes? Tldr: Can thermal adhesive be used to attach heatpipes to a heatsink? And will it work well enough?

Hi there I was wondering what you guys think is going on with my heatsink, It started to leak tiny clear droplets but not frequently only about two that are around the inner rim where the fan is. Here is a picture I tried to capture it the best I can, and if anyone know what this is thank you for the help. In the picture under the edge of the green fan you can notice the long droplet.

ok so i really hop i didnt just destroy my motherboard and cpu. after using the stock cooler for ryzen 3600, i got my aftermarket cooler in the mail. after unscrewing the cooler from the motherboard, i attempted to remove the cooler from the heatsink only to have it rip out the cpu from the motherboard. after inspection it seems like the cpu is glued onto the heatsink for some reason, ive never had a cpu be this difficult to remove. the stock cooler came with what appeared to be pre applied paste that i had not seen before but i hope i did not screw this up somehow. and tips on how i should proceed would be helpful.

So, I got out of the idea to get a sexy X62 and decided that I rather go with an Air Cooler instead. And if I'm gonna get a cooler, it should be one of the best, and not $hit ugly. So, I did my research and end up with the decision to get a Noctua instead of a liquid AIO. But I got a problem with it, the silver color would definitely ruin colorschemes and the fans will definitely remind me of fresh and dried poop. Then I found out that back at Computex 2016, Noctua introduced Chromax Accessories and its totally not poopy at all. And I wondered when it was gonna release, checked their website, it says end of 2016. But 2016 already ended. http://noctua.at/en/noctua-at-computex-2016 I almost ruin my boner for these. But that won't falter until I ask them on twitter. They said Q3. Well, I'm gonna prepare for torches and pitchforks for now. You know, JUST IN CASE.

Hi! I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre M93p Tower which I have upgraded in terms of Graphics card and power supply. The CPU is i5 4570. My question is, because the motherboard is proprietary to Lenovo, is there a chance that so is the cpu cooler and thus can't fit in a regular motherboard? If there is that chance, how do I check? Thanks!

With Ryzen coming out in less than 2 days dependant on where you are in the world, what's everyone take on coolers? Obviously with this being such a hush hush project, there aren't a huge number of compatible coolers, especially for people wanting to get a new Ryzen build on release day, with their own CPU Coolers being pretty hush hush too (no where you can purchase them!) So what are people's take on the BEST AM4 cooler to get, or will they be sticking with AMD's stock attempt given that it looks much more solid compared to Intel's offering, as well as the fact they are making stock coolers for their 'X' range (intel equivalent 'K' range which has no cooler).

Hey, I'm going to buy a Ryzen 5 CPU (R5 1600). I'm a little bit concerned about the motherboar situation. I want to have the option to overclock my CPU later on (not now). But the best motherboard I have found (for this price) the AsRock B350m Pro4 isn't available across the world (WHY??). So I have to pay a little bit more and go with the MSI B350M Mortar. The problem is only one of it's two row's of Mosfets is passively cooled by an heatsink. Only two of the 6 Inductors don't have an heatsink but still. I don't want to pay more money for a more expensive board, I don't need these features they are useless in my opinion. (100$ is much money considering, I bought my last motherboard for 60$) So question is, could I overclock my Ryzen 1600 to let's say 3.6 GHZ on all cores without hurting my components? Or should I buy a few little heatsinks later on, when I'm overclocking, and stick them on the remaining mosfets? Or should I even wait for other mobo's to come around?

Hey guys! So, I'm trying to make a green themed build, and my motherboard has green heatsinks.. (It's the Asus 970 Pro Gaming Aura) So, the thing is, does painting it void my warranty? And also, does painting the silver part of the heatsink on the Corsair Vengeance Pro ram modules void it's warranty? I know it's a kinda stupid question, but thanks in advance!

basically i put a peltier cooler attach a big aftermarket cpu heatsink to it shove that into a jerry can to decipate *coldness* into the liquid and use a stock intel cooler to decipate *heat* away from it (heat rises) then have a tube connected to a pipe which connects to drink (shitty diagram incoming - im not joking) should i try it and could it work?

I recently noticed that my ATX Full Tower System had been overheating after around 1-2 hours of gaming, so i opened it up to see what the probnlem was. i noticed that my CPU heatsink (Arctic Pro Rev 2) had stopped working and was no longer spinning on boot. even though the pc was POSTing fine.So ultimately the system was running for an hour or 2 with games running on just the 5 case fans (including GPU fan), before getting too hot and turning off today i bought a new heatsink cooler, the Zalman CNPS5X, after cleaning the CPU and applying new artic silver thermal paste, i booted my theoretically fixed machine and opened up HW Monitor to monitor my new core temperatures, but just as i opened the software, it overheated again! i managed to just get a glimpse of "110 Degrees" for my Core ) temp, i have no idea why this happened i thouroughly cleaned my system and it is pretty much dust free, i am currently waiting for it to cool down before trying again Any help would be appreciated. -Jamie Specs : CPU:AMD phenom II x4 965 black editiuon 3.4Ghz RAM: 8GB(2x4) DDR3 Kingston HyperX 1333mhz Case : Inwin Maelstrom

Is there a way to mount a stock LGA 1136 heatsink to a LGA 775 board? I have a spare LGA 1366 heatsink lying around that i want to use it in my HTPC as it is on the whole time. Thank you.

Hey this might be a stretch but I thought I would ask before buying. I need a dell poweredge t410 heatsink. It is important that I have this exact one because it fits perfectly in the air director I have over my motherboard (I don't know what to call that, it directs the air through my computer). I've already found them on ebay but before I buy it I thought I would ask and see if anyone had one for some reason that they might want to sell Thanks for you time
