Hey, this is going to sound really weird but I've been trying to fix my cousins pc, at his house when it's plugged in every minute or so it will crash and get video tdr failure. The only thing that stops it in his house is if it's booted in safe mode of Uninstaller the drivers, I also used a different graphics card and it did the same thing. So I took it home to continue troubleshooting, as soon as I plugged it into my house nothing was wrong I played on it for hours, so I pinned it down to a faulty cable. This was not the case tried all new cables and no hope at his house, we tried different outlets and circuits too but all the same result, so I took it home and still absolutely no issue, so I took it to my friends house and it got the tdr failure I'm honestly stumped and wondering why the pc only likes working in my house. Please help me

I recently built a new gaming PC (Specs below) and am experiencing strange clouds of white dots when playing games. I have noticed this on RDR2, Far Cry 5 and Doom Eternal (it's especially bad in Doom). I've tried changing the graphics settings on each game but nothing seems to make a difference. Drivers are all up to date. Do I have a faulty card? http://imgur.com/gallery/73qgWMD Gigabyte Geforce RTX 2080 Super Gaming OC Ryzen 5 3600 16GB 3600Mhz MSI B450m Mortar Max Corsair TX650M Windows 10 Pro x64

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! I have been dealing with this for over 9 months with a BRAND NEW system I built following all of Linus Tech Tips videos. The system would just randomly crash from loading a game, all the way to being in the middle of a game and it crashes. I wasn't even playing graphically intensive games either! I had heard that it could be GPU, CPU, Motherboard, PSU, ... etc. I double checked everything in my PC... and I mean everything. I was 100% sure the GPU was fried and it was too late to return it. I had to swallow the pill of buying a new card in the middle of this bitcoin crap at the super high prices! It was about 2am my time and I was going to order the new card the next day when I decided to look for a fix. One. Last. Time. I found a very old thread, link below, that a guy was having the same issues. He did the exact same things I did and then some. He finally resorted to pulling the graphics card and taking apart and looking at it to see if there was anything noticeable. That's where the problem was!!!! The CHEAP way some of these cards are made, was causing this issue. More specifically, there was little to no thermal compound on the actual GPU, it was all on the board on the side of it. He cleaned it off, put it back together, and ..... Viola!! It ran fine! I did the same thing, also with the help of some of Linus' videos, and it fixed mine as well!! Just to note I'm running a Red Devil Radeon RX 480, so this is not a cheap card but also not a super high end card either. Hope this helps somebody save a little bit of money and not throw out their card when its just poor assembly. All credit goes to the guy that started the post in the link, without him I would not have figured it out. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/660409/screen-goes-black-and-gpu-fan-goes-to-max-speed-monitor-enters-powersaving-mode/

Hi, I am finishing my build but I’m stuck. I have put the GPU into PCIe x16 slot but I cant screw it in my Fractal Design Pop Air. Is there any way to put it out? The case is standing, should I lay it down? The card is Intel Arc A750 limited editon. I am almost crying because I think I ruined the build. Please help.

Hi, so I've upgraded my whole build except my GPU which is a 5-year-old 1070 ti. My old PSU was a terrible one in terms of the PSU tier list which is a 520 Watts Seasonic M12II EVO 80+ Bronze (Tier E), although I never had any problems with it. I have upgraded to a 650 Watts Seasonic Focus GX 80+ Gold which is Tier A and a very high quality PSU. My problem is my GPU suddenly had coil whine while it is under load/gaming which is weird since it did not have coil whine on my last build or even if it did, it is not noticeable. The past PCIe cable I've used on my old one is just a normal one-to-one 8-pin PCIe cable. While the new one that came with my new PSU is 1 8-pin to a 2x 8-pin. I have searched the internet that using a direct 8-pin to 8-pin can remove/lessen the coil whine compared to a PCIe cable with a splitter due to power delivery on the power rail or some stuff. I am also planning to upgrade to an RTX 4070 which also uses just 1 8pin so I'm just curious if using a direct 1 to 1 cable is better than the one I have. I'm not knowledgeable on these things so I would like some insights. Thanks! Attached is my current PCIe cable for reference

After owning the XFX 5700XT Thicc III for over 3 years nows, and with the warranty period over, I became curious on replacing the stock thermal paste which had probably outlived its use. This post is just a show of sorts to anyone who is interested, and I’m happy to report I have reduced thermals by 10-12 degrees when running tests like Unigine Heaven, 3D Mark etc. my junction temps before were around the 80-85, with the new thermal paste, maxing out at 72-73 on a 1800 under-clock with low noise fans. I’m still tweaking the settings and hope to increase my fps without sacrificing visuals. I also plan to watercool the XFX Thicc III at a later date, and try that for a change, as a search online looks like its a rare occurrence. It’ll be my first time watercooling but I’ve always wanted to try it.

This problem only affects rust for some reason, all other games are fine. It crashes every time I play it, sometimes while loading into a server and other times randomly while playing. 1440p has increased the frequency of crashes but it was still happening beforehand. Average temps under full load (60-70 degrees). GPU usage is always maxed out while CPU sits around 40-60% usage. RAM normally sits at 15.5gb usage. Turning up the voltage into my CPU seems to only delay the crashing. My errors are different every time but recently it's been "UnityPlayer.dll". I've performed a stress test which revealed no problems and I can't replicate the crashing at all. I've reset overclocks and tried increasing voltage but nothing works. I haven't reset my PC in 4 years, could this be a differential? PC specs: CPU-I7 9700k GPU-1080 G1 16gb RAM- 16gb 3000mhz dual channel (2 and 4 bit) Motherboard:Z390 Aorus pro Power supply:650 watts 80 gold plus Corsair Any help would be appreciated :)

My GPU temps are high and I want to change the thermal paste to the Thermal grizzly Conductonaut. It wont stick nor spread on the bare copper heat pipe surface of the GPU heatsink. I have cleaned the surface multiple times with isopropyl alcohol with no change in result. I suspect the copper surface is too smooth so the LM wont stick. What grade of (grit) sandpaper(s) to use to sand down the copper surface? if this not the right place to ask this kind of question can you please direct me to the correct forum? Thank you.

Hello, so i know there is a similar post but with some differences on my specs. I'm thinking of buying the rx 6700xt for gaming and streaming on Twitch but i hear a lot of people say no because of the encoding that has problems with Twitch. Note that i cannot stream on 6000 bitrate because of my internet connection (even though i have 10mbps upload speed my bandwidth doesn't reach this mbps idk why) Do you think it's gonna be a good idea buying this one or should i go for a 3060 12GB? I know the performance is worse than the 6700xt but in terms of streaming i can go a bit lower on graphics since i dont play this much of a demanding games. Or you think going on lower GB of VRAM for the 4060 8GB is another solution?

I recently got a used 3060 Phoenix, works flawlessly except for how the fan runs very loud - it seems like 100% - all the time. However, no software is recognising the fan (all say 0 rpm) -- This problem occurs after startup, --The fan works regularly (not like a jet engine) in motherboard BIOS, Safe mode, and after uninstalling the graphics card drivers. -- the moment any Nvidia graphics drivers are installed the fan instantly goes to jet mode -- when none are on the system it works fine. -- no software can change the fan rpm from 0 ( when fan speed is changed from 30% nothing happens) -- GPU is chilled at 23-27 degrees at idle -- I deshrouded and reapplied thermal paste and disconnected and connected the fan from GPU - the problem still happens Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello , I have recently started having issues with my gtx 1660. Everytime i stay in a game continously for 10+ minutes it gives wierd artifacts and sound glitches on the entire screen and it either crashes completely restarting the system , freezes OR the screen comes back on like nothing even happened. Even my game doesn't disconnect from server when that third scenario happens. I ran DDU in safe mode twice uninstalling gpu and audio drivers. While i did this i unchecked the "auto windows update driver" checkbox at the very bottom. So after i did all that reinstalling and uninstalling gpu drivers and restarted , the computer seemed to work fine , i ran a cinebench benchmark for the entire 10 minutes and it scored 3000 something score so i know there is nothing wrong with the card performance. The issues started to happen again once i restarted my pc the next day and i ran cinebench again which crashed the pc , i have wiped drivers and reinstalled again in safe mode and currently running cinebench gpu test without any issues. Tried reseating card, tried different 6+2 connector. Nothing works , only thing i haven't done yet is try a fresh install of windows and different dvi cable. Any help would be appreciated.

My previous pc recently broke, Im unsure what parts work/dont all i know is that my motherboard is most likely the cause of the problem. currently building a new system, replacing the motherboard, cpu, psu and fans and am just wondering if plugging in the old GPU (Gigabyte 3060 OC) that MAY be fried kill the whole new rig and cause me to go into debt. also, is there any way i can test this gpu with only a psu?

Hello! i'm thinking of buying a new graphics card, i've been looking at some reviews and some specific models, i'm more inclined towards graphics cards with an amd chip. A brand that came up a lot in my research was xfx, I would like you to help me get to know this brand better, in terms of performance, reliability and aesthetics, what do you guys think of the brand's graphics and if you have had any experience with the brand, could you share your experiences? Thank you guys!

What it says in the title, what PSU and GPU should I pair with my 7950X3D (thinking on going AMD for GPU but haven't used one since my old RX580). Note that the case may be a limitation but I'm open to modifying this. Budget (including currency): However a GPU and PSU costs nowadays Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and general use Other details: (currently using a 7950X3D in an MSI X670-P Pro Wi-Fi with 64GB RAM, no peripherals are needed)

I’m currently in a state of indecision of which is a better card and which one will give me the most miles for my money. Currently I own a 2060 super and an amd 5 5500 and thinking of upgrading around Christmas time to a ryzen 7 and a better gpu. The choice of gpu is the question however especially with having prices basically $10 of each-other. Most resources online are made about a year or 8 months ago and says the 770 needs better drivers to surpass the 4060 and 6700xt. Now the drivers have been cooking for the 770 would it be a wise choice to go with the intel gpu over amd/nvidia for **1440p Gaming** (if not which is the better choice for ‘future proofing’ and performance). Cheers.

Hello! My first post here, so please forgive if I miss anything critical. Also, I've already gone through a LOT, so this post is quite a long one. Parts list is linked at the end. I've been having issues lately with most games crashing to desktop. I've done a lot of troubleshooting, but I want to see if I've missed anything. I'm pretty certain the issue is a bad GPU, however I've already RMA'd the card and gotten it back from the manufacturer (MSI), and the problem is still there. MSI's RMA process did say they "fixed" the card but the reporting from them seemed suspect to me, and comparing the card to photos I took before sending it in shows nothing was touched physically (tamper stickers are untouched and all screws are turned to the exact same angle as prior to the RMA). The problem: Issues with stability when playing games that rely on the 3D engine. The games will crash to desktop, but beyond that the system continues to run fine (no BSoD, no hang-ups requiring a forced restart, no unexpected shut-downs, no overheating, etc). Several of the games will display a general crash report, others won't. There is always an Event Viewer System error thrown that I outline below. Some days I can play for a couple hours with no issues, most times the games will repeatedly crash within minutes of starting up or as soon as I load into the game from the menu. My system is not using any custom over- or underclocking other than the stock XMP profile in the BIOS. replacing my MSI 3080 with an older EVGA 2080 Super seems to fix the issue HOWEVER, during the RMA process I did have two crashes with the 2080 Super that had the same Event Viewer warnings while playing games. I feel pretty certain that the issue is being caused by the GPU, but I want to make certain before I start fighting with MSI Support again. Could this be caused by the PSU being too small? Could it be a bad PCI-e slot? Could Windows be to blame? Games I've had issues with: Spider-Man Remastered (Steam) The Witcher 3 Next-gen Update, DX12 version (Steam) High on Life (Xbox Game Pass) Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (Steam) Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (Steam) Elden Ring (Steam) Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox Game Pass) Cyberpunk (Steam) Games/situations I do not have issues with: Graveyard Keeper (Steam) Dwarf Fortress (Steam Edition) Heroes of Hammerwatch (Steam) Vampire Survivors (Steam) Any kind of general usage outside of games, such as having many MS Edge tabs open, running Photoshop, watching YouTube videos, etc. Error messages observed in Event Viewer: Error - The description of Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found... (thrown every time a game crashes) Warning - The display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. (less common) Troubleshooting I've attempted since the card has been returned to me by MSI: 3dmark - I've tried running several of the benchmark programs Time Spy - Never successfully loads, throws error "DXGI call IDXGISwapChain::Present failed [0X887A0005]" when transitioning from the loading screen to the test. This happens on both fullscreen and custom windowed. Speed Way - Never successfully loads. Throws error "An error occurred. No result produced." when transitioning from the loading screen to the test. This happens on both fullscreen and custom windowed. Fire Strike Extreme - Has completed several times. It has also failed several times but only on the combined portion of the test. I have sent the reports into the 3Dmark team and they feel that it is a hardware issue. OCCT Prior to the RMA, running the GPU test returns numerous errors within the first minute. Since the RMA I was able to run the test for over an hour twice with no errors found. Running the CPU and Memory tests for prolonged periods of time come back clean (multiple hours used for each test). HCI Memtest I've admittedly not run this for longer than a few hours at a time, but I've maxed out memory usage with no errors reported. Memtest86 I've run the full compliment of tests twice with no issues found. Furmark I've left this one running for a while but have not encountered any artifacting issues. Temperature Monitoring (using HWiNFO64) Temps in the machine are on the high-side of acceptable under prolonged heavy load. The GPU reaches the mid-70's C with very small spikes to around 80 C. CPU stays in the mid-70's as well. Overall system temp stays around 56 C. Ambient room temp is around 20 C. Forced debug mode via the Nvidia Control Panel (Regardless, I don't do any custom over- or underclocking) Used DDU to uninstall and reinstall my graphics drivers Reverted to older compatible graphics drivers Made sure my PC is running in ultimate performance power mode Turned off Windows Hardware Acceleration Updated MoBo BIOS to latest version Swapped the MSI 3080 with an EVGA 2080 Super - this seems to fix the problem, but I did still have two crashes over about 50 hours of playtime while waiting for the 3080 RMA where as the 3080 would crash almost instantly without fail. Additional planned troubleshooting: Clean-installing Win11. The current install is less than a year old, but worth a try. Putting the 3080 into a different system with similar hardware - hopefully I can get this done some time this week, but trying to sync schedules can be rough! My system specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cVNkH2 CPU: i7-12700k GPU: MSI Gaming Z Trio RTX 3080 12GB RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 2x16 DDR4 3200 MoBo: MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk PSU: Super Flower Leadex III Gold 850W

I recently have been upgrading an old HP Pavillion p7-1236s for a friend. I had a compatible Xeon laying around that was better than the i3 that was in it before, however the Xeon has no integrated graphics so I put an R7 250 in it just so it can get a display, however there is no signal from any of the ports. The fan on the card spins up, and the rest of the system posts and is responsive. I was afraid it was the card, but I tested it in several other systems and it displayed fine. Then I was afraid it was the motherboard PCIe slot, but I tested an RX 560 and it displayed fine. I believe it has to do with the fact the RX 560 has an additional 6 pin power connector, while the R7 250 uses just power from the PCIe slot. I think the PCIe slot is not providing enough power to the graphics card. Is there any way to fix this? I checked around the bios, but with it being a HP prebuilt, the settings were very limited. The motherboard is a Joshua H61 board, the link to it is here http://www.ascendtech.us/hp-pavilion-670960-001-motherboard_i_mbdthp670960001.aspx. I need to do more testing when I have time, but I am just hoping someone can think of something I can try by the time I can test again. Thank you, Matteo

I have a nvidia 1070 that i havent played a game on in 10 months. My buddy wanted me to get escape from tarkov. When i got it going my frames in the menu and game were super low. I then went to geforce experience and had it adjust my settings. No change. Then i went to a game that worked well in the past. Dying light. And it also has low frames. I updated the drivers from the geforce experience program. And used malwarebytes to clean up anything that may cause my issue. What else could the problem be?

Hello guys its been a long time since i play video games, i saw my friend playing world war z recently and it kinda ignite my love for gaming once more. I have a pre-built dell with surprisingly FSP ATX form factor PSU without gpu power pin and its 400 watt ish, and since i am on a tight budget, i can't afford to buy a new PSU that has gpu power pin. So please recommend me any GPU that doesn't require power pin that is powerful enough to run world war z at stable 50fps on full HD, i got my eyes on 1050 Ti 4GB cuz it doesn't seems to require power pin. My specs are 8GB of RAM and 4th gen intel core i3 2 Core 4 Threads. Thank you in advance.

Hey. Hope you can help. Powered up my pc today and noticed a vertical line going top to bottom on my screen. I can only describe it as a visual artifact. It flickers constantly. Only really noticeable on darker backgrounds. RTX 3090 connected to an LG C9 OLED via a HDMI 2.1 cable. I've updated the drivers in geforce experience. I've tried a different cable, and I've tried different hdmi port on the TV. The TV doesn't show the issue on anything other than the pc. There's only one hdmi port on the card so I tried a Display port to HDMI adapter and the issue has gone, but now it can only do 1080p 60hz. My guess is that the low res and refresh is a limitation of the adapter more than anything else, but it still allows HDR. What do you think? Broken hdmi port on the graphics card? Could I get a better display port to HDMI adapter to get 4k 120 VRR again?

Started a few days ago when every once in a while during gaming, my GPU would crash and go a black screen followed by a full PC crash. I thought might be my GPU cable so when I checked the cable I found the header to be a little burnt. I had no spare cables, so I just made sure the connection was solid and kept going for a while. Got advice from someone to replace my power supply but I wasn't convinced it was related to the power supply and maybe only the cable. Fast forward to today and the GPU is crashing like never before. At a point, it started crashing as soon as Windows loaded. Loading windows in safe mode disables my GPU and its drivers and everything works just fine. When I reenabled the GPU and restarted my pc it started crashing on start-up again. I suspected it might be a software issue instead and when my PC finally did manage to boot, trying to open the AMD software gave me a notice saying something along the lines of "AMD software is not compatible with the current version of AMD drivers." So I reinstalled the drivers but to no avail. It crashed after around 30 minutes again and has been crashing on start-up unless I boot into safe mode. Safe mode seems to show no trouble at all. The GPU fans seem to spin up from time to time to keep cool as well. I should note that this problem has occurred before. Popped up for the first time last year when the GPU started crashing during long gaming sessions. When I checked the cable, it was badly burned. I had a spare cable back then so changing it solved the problem temporarily until now. FYI the cable is a six pin cable and not all of the pins are getting burnt. Only 3 pins are getting burnt where one of the pins at the outer corner is getting burnt the most. So I need help identifying the real reason behind this issue and figuring out how to fix it. TIA
