The purpouse of this post is to organize my upgrading plans and if possible recieve feedback. I'm planing to upgrade my pc. The main reasons are that it makes a lot of noise (PSU and CPU), it heats my room way to much and ... because it's 32 bits and I think it's about time I get a 64 bit Desktop. The problem is that lately I've been building HTPC or low-end PC.so I'm a bit lost in the mid-range options. The PC will be used for general programning, some simple 3D modeling, browsing, as HTPC and casual gaming. What I currently have and may re-use 120gb SSD 3 TB HD 2 TB HD 1 TB HD 1 DVD reader/burner Fractal Define R4 with aditional white fans (will use) AMD HD 6870 I don't know If keeping it or buying another one Displays I'm using and will use 1920x1080 Packard bell (used daily) 1920x1200 Acer (main one) 1280x1024 Acer (used when programing) What I'm looking to upgrade CPU: ... PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650 GS: +like the color Corsair RM650 : ... RAM: prob 16 gb, I know it's overkill but I'm a "chrome tab lover" and I just want to have all equal and nice 2X Kingston HX FURY - Memoria RAM (8 GB 1866MHZ DDR3), white ... Motherboard: prob ATX, as I like the extra I/O pci-lanes to allow possible future raid card or other random stuff (I may need to attach some serial ports in the future) MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition Asus Z97-AR Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 CPU Heatsink: ... Budget (not fixed, may be increased and decreased depending on random factors): 400-600 + graphic card if needed Notes -black and white theme is prefered. If I'va to pay a bit more in order to follow this theme I'm gona pay it gladly -Silence it's worth every penny -Electrical efficiency -I use Ubuntu mainly and windows in a secondary partition Edit 1: Added possible PSUs (thanks to DarkBlade2117) Edit 2: Added possible RAM Kingston HX Fury X

HI Guys ! I Could use some help with my Nvidia Drivers problem here.. So long story short, i decided to upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) to Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) from windows media tools, the windows installation was smooth as butter! No problem whatsoever and also I disable the automatic driver update from windows, cause many users says that it could make some issue with Nvidia Drivers. But the good news stop there, after booting to windows 10 i realized the resolution was on 1024 x 768 and i cant change it from the display option (I assume there is no graphic driver was installed). So i go to to the Nvidia Website to search the latest driver for my Graphic Card (which was GTX 660TI) and i download the 361.91 Nvidia Driver. After Install it i noticed that the bar for changing the resolution was still gray, and Try to restart my computer (cause in some cases restarting the PC could work) Then the resolution got better, but i notice that the resolution was not the resolution of my screen (which is 1920 x 1080), but it was instead 1280 x 1024 (hmm thats odd i thought ). I Decided to get to the Device Manager and my graphic card shows an error, Code 19 (Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damage... But before the update to windows 10 my graphic card was fine and i was playing GTA V too (I think my graphics card was not the problem.). So. i decide too uninstalling the Nvidia Driver Using the DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to make sure everything was completely uninstalled. Then i download the 361.75 Nvidia Driver and this time i option for the Clean Install Hope everything gonna work. The Driver Installation was a breeze but not the same for the result, at the Device Manager it shown another error code for my graphic card. Code 43 (Windows has stopped this device because it has report problems). But My Journey Continue.. I Tried Almost all Nvidia Drivers which compatible with Windows 10 (Even as go far The BETA Driver 352.63) but the results are the same Either Code 19 or Code 43 Error and for Some NOTE on this back and forth installing and unistalling the Driver, I always use the DDU Application. But I also tried a few times without with and the Result not good. Sometimes the Display Adaptor Shown on Device Manager is Only Microsoft Basic Adaptor. I Also Tried By Using The Nvidia Geforce Experience but no results in the end and Also Browsing many tricks on Forums but non of it Worked. After 8 Hours or so I Thought maybe Windows 10 Just wasn't for me, and Decided to Revert to Windows 7, BUT WINDOWS DOESN'T LET ME REVERT TO WINDOWS 7!!! It says The Files We Need To Revert To Previous Windows was Removed on This PC. I Could do a Clean Installation of windows, but come on... I decided to Upgrade my windows from the updater because i don't want to RE-Installing all my software and games in The First Place. So Yeah... I Very Could Use Some Help From You Guys ! Anyhelp will be very Appreciated It! Anyway! Thanks Before...!

Hoi! Im thinking of buying a graphics card for my pc, I would need it to be around £100-£180 it dosent matter if its not amazing just as long its better than my Intel® Haswell Desktop and it would need to fit my MS-7869 ( https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ms-7869&client=ubuntu&hs=aq5&channel=fs&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwipr4TB-53KAhUHRhQKHcQNDL4Q_AUICCgC&biw=1855&bih=950 ) and my current specs are: CPU:Intel® Core™ i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz × 4, Motherboard: Acer MS-7869 Mobo, Ram: 2x4 Kingston Hyper Fury X, GPU: Intel® Haswell Desktop, Case: Raiden Elite White: http://www.tecwareph.com/#!raiden-elite/y8e9l Storage: 2TB Seagate HDD? PSU: Chicony D14-220P2A ( http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/psu_reports/CHICONY%20POWER%20TECHNOLOGY%20CO.,%20LTD._D14-220P2A_220W_EU-007_Report.pdf ) Sound: Logitech speakers but for gaming Sony MDRZX310 Headphones any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

Hi, First of all, i wish you all a happy new year. I'm new to this forum and I look forward to spend a lot of time here. I've been following Linus' videos for quite a while now and i told myself, why not visiting the forum? Anyway. I'll jump right in the topic so you guys can maybe help me: I need a new rig for around 2200$ -ish. This includes the monitor. PC-wise: I study in Graphic Designs so i need something that can run smooth with multiple-tasks like 200+ layers on photoshop and Illustrator and so on. I also have 3D classes so a nice rendering rig would be nice. Oh and i'm a heavy gamer, so there's that. Monitor-wise: I need something with the nice true colors for the Graphic Desing part but also convenient for my eyes (meaning 144z and Low Blue Light), with fast response time. In the first place, i went with this: http://www.topachat.com/pages/configomatic.php?c=0Ua65J7L7LS67GuIV6VzPw5P5oT9KyEYZu1MaZJyCEs%3D (without the monitor of course). Btw i'm from Belgium so we have € but i'll make the conversion for y'all. This is roughly about 1700$. And i wanted to buy this cracker : The BenQ XL2411Z. Which has low blue light, 1ms, 144Hz and 24", going for 300$. Then I thought that maybe this would be better (but more expensive of course) : http://www.topachat.com/pages/configomatic.php?c=I0SHqMbFyxW7gWNfJETQofl0%2FUKY3dMZqArXX7qgIew%3D It is way more expensive and I reach the budget limit and find myself tied with the monitor. Except the fact that we now run with a Skylake and DDR4, I kinda dont really like having a new-on-the-market cpu because there will be newer cpu's in the future that might go for cheaper and run better, but in the other hand i don't want to stay on an high-end cpu like the 4790k with the 1150 socket. I do not intend to OC, i repeat i do not intend to OC. (you can flame me for that if you want) My second concern is with the gpu. The GTX970 from EVGA, FTW with ACX 2.0+ running at 4gb goes for ~ 400$ and the GTX 980ti, SC with ACX 2.0+ running at 6gb goes for twice the price!! Looking at the Benchmarking scores of both the gpu's I remain skeptical. Is there such a huge difference? The monitor isn't available anywhere near me so if there is anything else going for the same price feel free to tell me. What do you guys think? Is there any way to improve my rig before it's too late? (money money) What do you recommend me ? I'm open to any suggestion. The only things that should remain on this build are : • a primary SSD with enough space to install w10, the whole Adobe serie and few drivers. • a 2nd HDD with at least 2tb • a NVIDIA gpu. (Me no like AMD, me have bad experience with it) • a 144hz Monitor with fast response time and why not G/Free - sync. (only if we dont go over the price) • The Fractal R5. I'm in love with silence and the design drives me crazy. Thanks a lot.

Hi there, I'm writing for a friend since he's PC is fucked up, yet we don't know what's going on, that's why we need help. So yesterday his PC start frozzing all the time, he turned his PC on and 2 or 3 minutes after the PC freeze and didn't allow him to do anything. He tried to do a system restore but the PC went black screen and he had to turned it off cause he could do anything with it. Today the PC actually turned on no problem and was running fine for about 50 mins, passed that 50 mins the PC froze and went like this: We don't know what's going on but we suspect that it's something related with the graphic card. His PC is kinda old but he brought this new graphic card like 3 months ago. We're looking forward to know what's going on so we can go to the store and replace the faulty part. Thanks in advance ! (Sorry for any derp English)

Sorry, if my question is kinda noob. But what are the options for upgrading old notebooks. I have an HP notebook from 2008. Upgraded ram and hard drive before. Everything is working fine except graphics. It's one of those nvidia crap chip of that generation(Nvidia 8600M GS). That has some faulty problem. However, it's working mostly fine for light usage when removed nvidia drivers. Not sure if it's still using the Nvidia graphic chip or if Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 has it's own graphic. I know replacing gpu are impossible and even the option replacing the nvidia chip with exact chip will most likely result in chip failing again. I'm just wonder if there are any other options for upgrades. This is not a daily device. But I'm just wondering if anyone has any solutions. I'm not interested in playing game on the device either. However, the capability to play hd video would be nice. Youtube works but the moment you jump over 360p, it gets choppy. Originally, it ran hd video fine before nvidia chip failed. Not sure about this but heard from some people that usb to HDMI external video adaptor work. Any one know about this or have used before? What do you guys do with your old laptop?

What is the point of overclocking you cpu?
liilMatt posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Why overclock your cpu? I understand that years ago there was a need to overclock to keep up with modern games. But in my case (no pun intended), I have an i5 2500k. at 3.3 ghz, with stock overclocking a bit higher. With speeds like that, I've heard that for nearly all games there is very little point to overclocking - is this true? If there are games out there that will higher clock speeds, what are they. Or are there just some applications that better utilize the processing power that I am just overlooking? There more thorough and technical the better! I only ask this because there do not seem to be many resources on the internet indicating why we do it, only that as gamers we do it. -
It seems that EVERY build request is some one looking to play games and "edit video"... Is everyone a video editor or is that just an easy way of saying, "I might do work on it", I mean if they're not a video editor they seem to be a Graphic Designer and I'm yet to meet a fellow LTT designer in real life, there must be millions of them! I guess with the ubiquity of YouTube maybe everyone is an editor? I can't be the only one seeing this trend? Maybe I'm just drawn to those build requests

I never build a pc myself and now that is saved up some cash I wanted to use this opportunity to build my own pc. The type of workload I want to do with that build is mostly video editing, graphics and maybe some 3D work all around the adobe software. So Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and maybe (Cinema 4d), so i think a good graphics card, 32 gb of ram, an i7 cpu and an SSD (paired with a mediadrive) are best. Also i want to run two full hd monitors on this build. Maybe two BenQ GL2450HM 61 cm (24") Gaming on this build would be optional, but i would like to play for example Far Cry 4, The Division (when released), Fallout 4 (when released), Battlefield 4 or Assassins Creed. But playing is not the major priority, although I think this rig would be suited for these games. I would like to get some opinions on this build! As well as some problems I could possibly run into using this system. Here are the parts that i choose: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D2G2wP Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D2G2wP/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.98 @ OutletPC) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($6.79 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($127.89 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($207.98 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($97.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($88.41 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card ($507.82 @ Amazon) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($62.98 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($54.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($86.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1717.69 Thank you, for your help!

Hi guys! I am looking for a laptop for my graphic design and 3d work. I narrowed it down to Asus rog gl 552 jx and Dell inspiron 15 7000... Both cost roughly the same. I want it to run Adobe suite comfortably and also work with auto desk 3ds max and z brush. I want it to be reliable. Both the laptops have their pros and cons. Dell has a weaker gpu whereas Asus has lower battery life and built and design is more polished in case of Dell. My plan was to get best cpu gpu combo and upgrade the ram later. Upgrade wise Asus also has the m. 2 slot which is missing in Dell. There is a third option of buying mac book pro 2012 and upgrading hell out of it ( Which I don't think is a good idea) My budget is around 1200 use. Avoid suggesting msi or any other brand that doest have good warranty support/service centres in India.
