Hey everyone! My wife is a freelance graphic designer, and she's due for a new workstation PC (not Mac). She currently works on a MSI gaming laptop (a few years old, i7, 16gig ram, ssd, GTX760m) - her main programs are Adobe Illustrator CC, Photoshop and InDesign. The big question - would it be worth the money to get something like a Quadro P2000 for her new pc instead of a Geforce card? We're in South Africa, and the cost of a P2000 is around ZAR8000 to ZAR9500 ($620 - $735 based on current exchange rates). I could get for the same amount a GTX1070 or even a 1080. It's gonna be coupled with at least 32gigs of RAM, and the CPU will either be a i7 7700K (4 core), or the i7 7800X (6 core). Question time: 1. For what she does (no gaming, just designing) P2000 vs GTX1070/1080 - which will give her better performance in Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign? 2. I don't plan on overclocking, and for only about (ZAR500 / $40) more I can get the 7800X cpu which is a six core vs the 7700k which is the quad core - which would serve her better - from what I can tell the 7700k will give better single core performance, but only just? Thanks so much in advance for your feedback! Cheers from South Africa Rudi

buying soon Making a trip to the US to buy some goodies.
Beats posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
So, i'm planning to make a trip to either NY or Miami for some goodies as my country (Argentina, where i'm flying from) doesn't import them and it's a pain in the "duck" to pay the overly expensive prices some cheeky sellers have in here. I'm certainly a newbie when it comes to PCs (With few exceptions) and i couldn't make my mind with how many and how much stuff has been changing and progressing, that's when i decided to stop by here and ask for some advice as i'm completely lost. The purpose this machine will have is basically Youtube/Multi Tasking/Gaming (Some Web Development but that doesn't require much juice) and the few things i'm trying to fit inside this components are the following: EDIT: Forgot to mention that i'm going for a ATX Motherboard so clearance on the top is vital for the x62/x52 NZXT Kraken x62 NZXT H440 Red or Green and Black (If possible to keep components within the same color scheme) [Not buying this on the US just for the sake of transporting it being a PITA] NZXT RGB Fans (For the sake of colors) NZXT HUE+ Corsair Vengeance Memories (RGB Ones) I7 6700k GTX 1080 SSD x2 (Looked at the Corsair Force ones but open to suggestions) In terms of Peripherals i'm also looking for a good Wireless Headset (Recommendations are more than appreciated as i've seen a bunch of them and can't make my mind). Also, i'm adding to all the above a few Corsair goodies such as: Corsair Polaris RGB Mouse Pad Corsair Saber RGB Corsair K70 RGB Budget of $2000 USD (Might extend up to $3000 for extra performance but i think $2000 is a good price) Any suggestions, Builds and all of that will be much appreciated as i don't want to just travel to the US for some goodies and come back empty handed just because i've no idea of how some stuff works haha Feel free to ask any questions, i'll be more than glad to answer anything you might need to know. Thanks in advance and have a nice day!- 5 replies

So I've been looking for a new monitor for my next PC I'll be building here in the next couple of weeks. The CPU on my build will be a i7 6700k and GPU will be a GTX 1070. My current monitor is an old Asus VH236H. I will be gaming, but also doing design work. The most competitive game I play is probably Overwatch, so I don't think I'm going to need a 144hz monitor (unless the price is right). I work on just about all the adobe programs, Photoshop, illustrator, after effects etc. (CS6 versions). I would say I spend just a small amount more time working in adobe than I do gaming. I have been looking at these two monitors (Benq GW2765HT and Asus PB278Q) as they seem to be a good compromise between gaming and professional monitors. So here are my questions: The Benq claims to be 10 bit and have over 1 bil. colors. With my CPU and GPU both supporting 10 bit, will this give the Benq an edge over the Asus PB278Q for design work? Or is 10 bit and 1 bil. colors not significant enough from Asus' 8 bit 16 mil colors? (I do use adobe programs that should support 10 bit) When it comes to gaming it seems as if most people seem to prefer the PB278Q, as it has less input lag. DisplayLag.com shows the Asus at 26ms and the Benq at 34ms (both end up in their great catagory). Is this going to be a noticeable difference, or no? (My current Asus VH236H is around 10ms) Or maybe I just don't worry about input lag and keep my VH236H for when gaming. And lastly, are there any other monitors in the sub $500 price range you would recommend similar to these? I'm looking for an IPS panel at 1440p. I know there are already tons of forums with threads comparing these two monitors, so I'm sorry for that. But I couldn't find many talking about the 10 bit 1 bil. colors on the Benq vs Asus' 8 bit, and wanted some more clarity on the input lag. Plus, many of these threads are years old, as are the monitors themselves, so I wanted to see if there is anything new out there I don't know about. Thanks in advance everyone!

Like the title says I need a good IPS monitor for digital art and graphic design. I need really good color accuracy and good viewing angles. I would consider 1440p if it was an amazing deal but I'm really hoping for 4k. I'm not going to use it for gaming much, if at all, so high refresh rates and low response times really don't matter. I also don't care about G-Sync or Freesync for the same reason. I'm looking for something that's 27 inches or more. The bigger the monitor, the more detail I can work with. I have a really small monitor and borrowing my friend's huge one for a bit changed my life. I found a 43 inch one by AOC (u4308v) which tempted me but it only has one review and I didn't want to take such a big risk. I won't complain about bezels if the panel is good. I'm hoping to spend 500 USD or less, but if something is just right I'm willing to spend a little more. I would really appreciate any advice. I've been trying to find a good monitor for days and I'm feeling pretty lost.

It's time to upgrade the monitor, though I'm not informed well enough on the matter. In short, I'm looking for a new monitor, mainly needed for doing graphic work (graphic design, illustration/sketching etc.) as well as 3D modelling. So far I figured I need a monitor with an IPS panel to get a better color quality, with that I've also learned that IPS panels tend to have a slightly slower response time and refresh rate as well as the common light bleed. Now to mention that I'm looking at more "budget" oriented options (let's say 200-300 euros, though prices here tend to be higher than their standard in most of Europe/N.America) and along with doing graphic/3D work there's also gaming, though graphic/3D work taking priority. The biggest question here is the resolution, 1080p or 1440p? Of course, 1080p would surely be fine at a 23.8/24inch display and going higher would be quite nice there are also current hardware limitations to have in mind. I was thinking that getting a 24inch 1440p monitor (27inch would be fine though my preference goes to 24in due to workspace and possibly pixel density) would be a good idea, I assume a higher resolution wouldn't negatively impact the performance in programs (such as photoshop, illustrator, 3D max etc.) but surely would have a noticeable impact on the gaming aspect. I have tested a number of games I usually play to see how the PC would handle 1440p (using AMD's super resolution, rendering 2K) and it pushes a solid 60fps in most more demanding titles and beyond 60fps in less demanding ones. Also, how much would an 8-5ms response time be noticeable coming from a 5ms display? But here's what I'm thinking, would it be a better option to get a nice IPS 24in 1080p display (60hz, 8-5ms etc.) or having "future proofing" in mind would it be a better choice to get a 1440p IPS display (24 or 27in, 60hz, 8-5ms) to keep for years to come? (Since I am planning on upgrading my system in the next 2 years, possibly stepping up at least the GPU to a higher class in the future). (And just to be safe in case I do get a 1440p display I'll be keeping my current 1080p one by it's side for multitasking and in case something like a video game is too demanding at 2K.) And as far as actual monitors go, I currently have an Asus VH222 1080p, though I've heard that among some great brands Dell stands out as far as graphic work oriented displays go. After looking around a bit at the not-extremely-wide choice of monitors these are some that caught my eye: Dell P2419HC 1080p 24in Dell P2418D 1440p 24in AOC Q2577PWQ 1440p 25in Dell U2419H 1080p 24in Since most of these and other displays within this price range share similar specs I assume the deciding factor for color quality would be the panel manufacturer and it's quality. Though I am leaning more towards the 1440p option. I'm open to suggestions, but as I mentioned sadly the choice although not that restricted isn't much given the budget, but in general how is the panel quality that Dell and AOC use and are there some other brands with good quality panels (such as these or better if these aren't much?) (PC specs: Strix RX480 8GB, i5 6600 (non K) and 8GB of RAM, I'm most likely also getting another 8GB stick with the display so in theory 16GB of RAM) Thanks in advance ?

Hi, Read the laptop RTX edition guide but I'm still stuck on a laptop choice. I was set on getting the Asus Strix Hero III 15 inch laptop but I didn't see it on the list and Asus told me the i9 isn't available in the US so I started doubting myself. I'm looking for a laptop that light (I travel a Lot), and Powerfull enough to do some like graphic design and then game on the side. Games I play are Wow, Destiny, and borderlands 3 soon ? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Guys, I need a bit of help choosing a laptop for travelling while doing graphic design (Adobe Cloud). I have increased my budget and have pinpointed towards these two laptops. ASUS ZenBook 14 - More RAM 16g price €1200 Not a great charger port no thunderbolt CPU i7-8565U no touch screen Matebook Pro X 13.9 - Less RAM 8g Price 1399 Thunderbolt CPU i7-8550U Touch Screen Good Screen *Both have the same GPU MX150. I want to go for the Zenbook because of the price and extra RAM... but am afraid the quality isn't great on them compared to the Matebook. If you have any advice or any other laptop I would much appreciate it.

Hello everyone!i'm new on the forum, nice to meet you! i'm searching for a new laptop for graphic design and 3d modelling work after my loyal Asus X555 started dying on me, hope you can help me! My budget is around 2000€, i'll be purchasing from France I'm looking for a thin and light 15.6" laptop, as i would be taking it with me to college very often Full HD (1920x1080) with good sRGB coverage (min 90%) 512GB of storage or more 16GB of Ram or more I mostly use the adobe suite (PS/AI/ID/XD/AE) and cinema 4d (sometimes 3ds max too) I also plan to use it for some casual gaming (say AAA rpgs like witcher, assassin creed or the upcoming cyberpunk 2077 at med-high settings with decent fps) Can last at least 4h on casual web surf / writing text on MS Word and streaming netflix on say 75% brightness i did some research on thin and light gaming laptops on my side, and managed to narrowed it more or less to the Razer blade 2019 and MSI P65/GS65 8RF , i found both at a local re seller for ≈2000€ (for the Razer blade 15 Rtx2070 Max-q,16GBRAM,512GB) and 1730€ (for the P65 8rf (Gtx2070 Max-q,16GBRAM,512GB), but i read some pretty terrible thing about both on reddit and such (poor build quality for the msi, and poor QC that may lead to random failure and pretty high temps for the razer).i would be really grateful if you helped me choose between the two or if you can suggest to me another recommandations that would fit my needsThanks!

Budget Build for Casual Design and Recording
tylorstandley posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
My HP notebook recently crashed and HP decided to hang me out to dry (I'm not bitter at all...). As I started looking for a replacement I realized that it would be stupid to spend $1,500 for a notebook. A friend convinced me to build my own pc. This is my first build and I'm a complete novice, so cut me some slack. I mostly use my pc for casual graphic design and would like to do some light recording (with a 2 channel audio interface at most). I don't really do any pc gaming, so I'm happy with an integrated GPU (but with the option to get a dedicated GPU later, if I ever start casual gaming). 16gb RAM is plenty, I think. I'd like to stay under $600 if possible and I don't really care about aesthetics. After a little research and price comparison, a created this parts list. The design software I use recommends something like Intel Core i7 3/4 GHz. I went with Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz because it has integrated graphics and a cooler for a fair price. Any advice would be super appreciated!- 15 replies

Hi, My wife is starting out in graphics design and her current laptop is too slow to work well. I found this one on amazon and I want some second opinions on whether it is worth while investing in. ASUS VivoBook 15.6" FHD Business Laptop, AMD A12-9720P Quad-Core Upto 3.6GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Fingerprint Reader, AMD Radeon R7 Graphics, USB-C, WiFi, HDMI, Windows 10 $547.95 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W89D9KB/?coliid=I1Y5N1PUBQ35QR&colid=1IZ8OA0D1WWZ0&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it#HLCXComparisonWidget_feature_div She is going to be using it to create designs to cut vinyl for shirts (Cameo) and also print using an OKI Pro8432WT White Toner Printer to Forever Flex transfer material. At the moment she just uses the Cameo's native software for her designs but we have Adobe Illustrator (older versions CS5) and Adobe Photoshop as well. Will this laptop get the job done on a budget?

Situation: I work information and content that made me want two monitors. My passion involves art(not commercially yet) and gaming(not very competitive but likes 60hz and above along with good response time). The main monitor would be the gaming one but also view most content and good color production is nice to have. The second monitor would be used of course to view additional information but also be used for the art hobby. i need help to narrow down choices and the budget would be $300-$325 USD all together(of course lower price and better product is appreciated). A 32in and above 250 brightness would be holly grail things for me. I just don't want regrets and return stuff back and forth. Hello! I'd like to find a laptop for 3D content creation (modeling, animation, rendering as well) while I travel. What should I take into account? So far I've learned that it should contain: i7 or Ryzen and up - do threads matter, which generation is best? 1050Ti and up - what other graphic card's parameters I should look for? 16GB ram and up Thanks in advance for any tips

Hi. I'm a graphic designer by trade, and have noticed a significant drop in performance recently when working in InDesign files and viewing PDFs that contain numerous large graphics. My PC is a Windows 10 machine with a 7700k (OC'd to 4.5ghz), 32GB DDR4 Ram, a GTX1080, a Samsung 970 Evo boot drive, Samsung 850 Pro drive for files and 850 Evo drive for cache. I also use a 2014 i5 iMac when working from certain locations, and my Windows machine has always demolished this. However, recently the Windows machine's ability to cope with these files seems a lot closer to the iMacs. I've monitored Task Manager and HWMonitor while working in these files and it doesn't seem like anything in the system is being overloaded or driven very hard, with the exception of a CPU utilisation spike to 96% on one thread while InDesign was attempting to load a page full of assets. Is this simply poor multi-threaded support from Adobe or is there something I can do to improve performance in this area? Help is greatly appreciated!

Hey, so basically my gf is getting into uni in graphic design next year and they highly recommend getting a macbook or at least a laptop. Considering the price and performance, getting a macbook is kinda not ideal in my opinion. So what could be a good replacement if what's required is good color accuracy and some decent rendering times, don't need anything crazy. Thanks! ,

So I have a bit of extra money coming up for the holidays. I'm looking for a new monitor, mainly for work. I pretty much stare at my computer screen all day. My question is what is a good solution for a web developer who spends most of his time writing code? I do graphic design as well so I would like a monitor with good color. I'm not looking for a multiple monitor setup, although I do miss mine. I find myself multitasking quite a bit so and ultra-wide may be a solution. Two monitors just takes up too much space on my desk. I game, not competitively and not particularly FPSs. Do I focus on higher resolution and not worry about the refresh rate? Is there a "best of both worlds?" I have about $600 to $1000 USD to spend. Can you post links to good monitors? Thanks in advance. PC Setup Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 4-IB CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz Graphics: Nvidia RTX 2070 8GB GDDR6 RAM: 16GB DDR4

HI Every one. I am a student here at SouthEastern Oklahoma State University studying Computer information systems and Graphic designs. i was wanting to see if any one can recommend what kind of hardware would be good for designing graphic's for games, websites, and other programs. i also would like some suggestions on hardware for encoding software like java, c#, C++, Python, Unity. i am wanting to build a dual system if possible but will work with a single case if needed.

I looked through the forms and found some projects that had similar results, but I'm not sure if any of them actually do everything I'm needing. So here goes... I am an engineer, my wife is a graphic designer. We both need computers that can handle a pretty heavy load. The software that I use most is AutoDesk Inventor and she primarily uses Adobe Illustrator. I would like to build a tower that we can both use and have different accounts(we have different definitions of "clean desktop" and "file management"). The end result that I need is a single tower that we can log into our individual accounts from individual separate devices and run our programs without any major sacrifices. For example, she is in the living room designing something in Photoshop on her laptop while I'm in the garage working on something in Inventor but all the processing is being done by the tower in a closet. For right now I only need to be able to connect via LAN, but eventually a WAN connection would be cool. I don't know if this is possible or not. If so is it cost effective, do the client laptops have any specific hardware requirements(other than internet connection), and will peripherals(i.e. wacom tablet or 'gaming' mouse) work fine over the connection? Any help would be fantastic!

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out. University just started and I found out that I need a laptop capable of graphic design if I study game design. *surprised pikachu* My old Surface Pro 4 in the i5 configuration does not exactly do the trick and the battery is dead as well, so I'm looking for a replacement. I'm quite new to the design world so I cannot estimate how heavy the workloads are on the hardware so I'm asking for your advice. We will probably be doing some 3d modeling, texturing, video editing and rendering in After Effects, Blender, Photoshop and the whole Adobe Universe. I have no idea if an integrated chip would be enough (but I doubt it) or if i need a giant 10 kilo Laptop monster. My budget is about 1500€, if it's a little more I can handle that as well. Portability is somewhat important, since I will have to take it to university every day. Weight is not an issue though, I'm a big guy and can carry a 10 kilo laptop for the whole day without any problems. Only the Size matters somewhat. I hope you guys can help me out and recommend something good. Oh and btw, does anyone know of a good and not too pricy graphic tablet?

My girlfriend mentioned to me recently that she wanted to pick drawing back up again, and remembering I had an old monoprice tablet (model twa60), I dug it up out of the box I had it in and plugged it into her PC. Only then did I realize that the drivers required for it were on a disk somewhere in my parents basement hundreds of miles away from me. I've searched high and low online for downloadable drivers. The merchant's site has been entirely redone, to the point where they don't even have that model even listed, let alone driver support for it. The other sites claiming to have a download have been reported to most likely contain various nasty things that no one would ever want on their computer. I've contacted monoprice, only to get no response back. The tablet is usable, it just doesn't have pressure sensitivity, and that's really what I'm trying to fix here. Am I completely screwed? Or could there possibly be another way around this? We're working with windows 10 here. Not sure if system specs is actually needed for this one.
