Hey! I wonder if someone has a good lifehack or trick or some good tips for making my pc more dust resistant. Are there good working ways to collect less more dust even with dustfilter on? And how often do you guys a clean up for your PC? once a week? every second week? I clean my PC once a month but i think that's not enough.

Hello. I have been looking at the Corsair Air 740 and noticed that there are no dust filters in the bottom at fan slots. I have been looking around and noticed Demcifilter has some filters for 28cmx14cm but I don't know how to install them from what I have seen. Do you guys have any ideas on what I can do with the filter problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

So my NAS server has been having some slowdown lately, and I traced it back to overheating and HDD issues. I haven't touched the system in 2 years (it was running 24/7 in my basement closet). This is what greeted me: Lesson of the day: Don't forget to clean your NAS server. P.S. The fact that it has a Pentium 4 also contributed to the overheating.

Hi All, I run the following configuration in a NZXT S340Elite case. I7 7700K Kraken X62 Asus GTX1080Ti OC Samsung Evo 850 500GB 2*HDD WD 3TB I use the original fans from the Kraken as intake in the front, a Corsair ML 140mm as top exhaust and Corsair Silent 120mm as rear exhaust. What I noticed using some smoke is that when the GPU is working harder like Gaming or Graphical editing, the fans of the GPU start to spin and they begin to suck air through the rear of the case. Dust (smoke) enters the case through the small holes from the perforated backside. What I would like to do is getting more Positive airpressure by using the topfan as intake also. But missing a filter in the top makes this a big nono. Also wander if there are other people who have this issue and how they deal with this. thanks.

Lost the link, what's the site that makes the custom case filters. I only saved one site so idk of there are multiple reputable places. US based preferably. Computer has a nice layer of dust in and on it. Taken as many measures as I can aside from putting the black bag over it that it can with. My air 540 is the case in question. Pfa, don't actually have any of the dirt.

I recently bought a can of compressed air and it turned out to be flammable. Is this dangerous? Are there precautions I should take? This is my first post here because tom's hardware is down, I'm sorry if I did something wrong when posting this.

Hello, I would like to know if dust can affect the image quality of a LED TV. My wife and I were reforming our living room and it got a lot of dust all over the furniture and the TV. In the night when we turned on the TV I realized that the image was not so clear and was a bit blurry, so i turned off the TV and cleaned the screen as it is in the instruction manual but it didn't work. Is it possible that my TV image was affected by the dust and now it's going to go on like this? Thank you for your attention.

So I decided to clean out my PC today and reapply some fresh thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU, and I decided to do some stress testing and bench marking before and after the maintenance to show just what kind of benefits you can see from properly maintaining your PC So the PC hasn't had its dust blown out in about 9 months, and the Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut both in use on both the CPU and GPU has been there for about 18 months. The system is a Ryzen 5 1600X paired with a MSI Twin Frozer GTX 980 and 16GB RAM. For more details, my build is listed in my profile. I did my best to eliminate all possible variables in testing. The system was reinstalled right back into its usual spot after cleaning, and the room has its own dedicated air conditioning set to 68F during both tests. All OC setting, fan curve settings, and all other settings remain the same in each and every test. I also used the same Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut from the same tube that has been in its resealable package for 18 months. NOTE: Unfortunately I forgot to take CPU temps before cleaning so this will be strictly a GPU showing BEFORE CLEANING (Max Boost Clock Achieved VIA Small Resolution Stress Test, value does not change due to maintenance) (Max GPU Temp after 30 minutes of stress testing) (During TimeSpy Stress Test, loop #10) (TimeSpy BenchMark Results) AFTER CLEANING (Max GPU Temp after 30 minutes of stress testing) (During TimeSpy Stress Test, loop #10) (TimeSpy BenchMark Results) RESULTS Well, it should be fairly obvious that yes, cleaning and application of fresh thermal paste will help your system's thermals. What is surprising to me is just how much of a difference it makes. Im actually seeing slightly improved scores and gaming performance. I believe this is due to the cooler temperatures because lower temps means a more stable overclock. Im VERY surprised at just how much affect this has had on the MSI GTX 980. 5 deg C is actually a fairly massive change for just maintenance. You may be wondering about why TimeSpy stress testing only dropped 2 deg C and at first I wondered the same, but then I realized it was because of my custom fan curve. I have it set to ramp up from 75% fan speed to 100% fan speed at 70 deg C, so not only did the clean lower the temps, but it actually improved temps so much that the GPU didn't even have to ramp its fans up to 100% for the entire TimeSpy Stress Test, unlike before.

I am in the market to buy a new case, of which I've narrowed down to NZXT's H500 and Fractal Design's Meshify C. I'd like to ask people who have been using NZXT's H500 regarding airflow and dust. Negative air pressure builds dust in the case. How fast does the dust buildup relative to your other cases experience? Is it an issue I should be worried about? How often do you clean the dust in your system? For reference, I will be running Ryzen 5 2600, with Cryorig H7 and a GTX 1070ti Zotac. Also, white H500 users, have your case experienced any form of yellowing? Thanks!

Hello All, I was wondering if you peoples had any tips and tricks for cleaning out a PC? I’ve pretty much only used compressed air maybe every 6 months or so to clean my system. I was wonder if there’s any general rule of thumb for how often you should be cleaining your PC and the best ways to do it.

Hiya guys. I just had a question, I recently replaced my fans and added 3 fans intake and 1 exhaust for my meshify c. I also ended up removing the front panels mesh material and replaced the aluminium part, because the fans I replaced were all RGB so it looked a lot better. I was just wondering is that ok dust wise if I clean it more regularly due to more dust build up?? Just was having second thoughts about it as I had thrown the mesh material away as I realised it was ripped. Any answers would be good. Thanks

Hi, I am looking for a mid-tower case with good airflow at around 100 euros or less (Netherlands) that is not too big (<= 50x50x20ish cm) or too heavy (<=10 Kg). I don't care about aesthetics, RGB, tempered glass, etc. I plan to install an i7-9700K and a nonblower RTX 2080 ti. The PSU will probably be the Corsair TX750M. I have kind of narrowed my options to: - Phanteks Eclipse P400A - Cooler Master MasterBox NR600 - Fractal Design Meshify C - SilverStone RL06 - Corsair Obsidian 450D All of them sport a mesh front panel, so my main concern is the amount of dust coming into the case through the intake fan(s) and if it could damage the components inside. The first two cases don't use a separate dust filter, the next two seem to use a fine meshed filter behind the front panel, and the last one seems to use a not-so-fine mesh filter. My second concern is how much noticeable noise they produce with their stock fans. I have checked several reviews already and while they do cover my second point to some extent, they do not address the first one, so I would like to have more opinions, especially from users of these cases. Alternatives are also welcome. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I would gladly appreciate your help on a matter that is about to drive me completely crazy! I just received the LG43WL500-B monitor. Now it's a pretty sweet monitor especially if you want a budget ultra wide! As I anxiously opened the package i was only thinking of one thing: If I encounter any dead pixels or not. I had pretty bad luck in the past to the point of getting 4 monitors in a row, all with dead pixels. Long story short, I fired up a test immediately, I wiped the screen with a microfiber cloth and after 3-4 dust spectacles i found something that I could not remove. I thought it was a dead pixel but upon closer examination, there are some weird things about this thingy. First of all, if you look it straight on, you cannot spot it. you can see it only if you look at it at angle. Second and most importantly, I don't think it is a whole pixel. I took some really close up photos using a tripod (for stability) and it seems like it's either something extremely tiny or a certain color of the pixel is not fully lit? Can you help me please find some peace of mind? Should I return the monitor? P.S: Here is the link to a set of images i uploaded, all in different colours with and without an angle. You can really see it at the third photo. also, you can right-click and open the image and fully zoom in to see the individual colours. Liquid Vs air cooling in dusty cities
Deuteronomy93 posted a topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Hi All So I've moved to Beijing and after getting settled and sorting the house, I thought it would be time to arrange a new PC build. I've been liquid cooling for quite a while now and lived in Barcelona for a couple of years which was a bit dusty (much more than the UK..) but Beijing is REALLY dusty. The build will be the typical FPS pushing as many frames as possible build (no streaming so no extra cores needed and want higher clocks) with likely a 3700x or 9700k in a mini ITX (might go with the mini DTX board if going with AMD). As with air, I've never doing anything smaller than a standard ATX and fancy a change (particularly as larger apartments are expensive here!) Listing parts so you know how much surface area I intend to use and would be affected by dust, particularly with fans on the pcie gen 4 boards. If going with water it would be 2x240 or 2x280 rads with 2 fans on each, probably 1x120 for exhaust. If going with air I'd go with a Noctua NH D15s as this is supposed to work with that DTX board, but was also thinking of getting another one and replacing the GPU heatsink after watching the DIY Perks video of this a while ago which was the reason I got interested in air again (really recommend the video). Aside from this I'll probably be putting in some fans to push some air to the coolers but these would likely be low rpm. Taking this into consideration, what are people's experiences with cooling high end hardware in dusty cities? Even though air cooling has more potential to coat your insides with dust, you'd still need airflow on water cooled systems for the chipset, m.2 etc. The air cooled system would be easier to take apart and maintain when the dust did build up enough but I imagine it would build up much faster whereas water would mostly be limited to the rads. Also interested in people's thoughts for the fan configuration and cases, I watched the video Linus and I think Luke did on the dust PCs but that was obviously an extreme test with too many confounding variables and didn't include a water cooled setup. I've seen some people use more unconventional cases that are completely open and resemble a test bench just because it's so much easier to clean.- 6 replies

I'm new to Pc and everything, so I bought a pre-built gaming pc about half a year ago and so I'm very confused on how to dust a computer, how to reapply thermal paste, and basically maintain and take care of my pc. I've tried searching up things and forums but it just confuses me more. I just need help knowing about my pc and stuff.

Hello! I’m new so sorry if this is in the wrong section. Tomorrow I’m buying a new Power supply as you can see it’s ugly and it’s recently died probably because my pc was sat on the carpet as I have no room on my desk. IS this safe (picture) or will it still harm my new coming PSU, Many thanks

So, I might have made a dumb mistake. I opened my pc case cleaning for dust with a brush. I removed my CPU fan to remove any dust and connected the CPU fan again. Problem is I noticed I didn't have any thermal paste (forgot about it) and I noticed most of the thermal paste was gone anyway. That's because it's an old PC I got in late 2011 (it's an i5 2500) and I never removed the CPU fan since it was assembled 8-9 years ago. Now I noticed the CPU is significantly slower. So, what could be the reason? * I didn't reapply thermal paste. But it was running fine before I removed it and the thermal paste ran out * I didn't connect the fan properly. Also is there any reason to test if the CPU is indeed throttling because lack of cooling? Thanks.

Hey there! I recently got gifted 3 140mm fans for my pc and ive been having problems since. I have a pet cat and the cat hair combined with the dust is too much for my pc to handle , it doesnt have any dust filters or anything which means alot of them get sucked up inside . Also the Fans dont fit properly and i can only fit 2/3. I try my best to clean my pc every 2 days but thats too harsh on the connectors etc. Oh and to mention my case right now has a very poor ventilation system so i have to keep the side panel open.... I also have to go on a trip in a couple of weeks and my budget is on point. My question is : Should i opt for a case that has the ability to fit the fans properly and that has dust filters or wait some longer after the trip when im back home so i wont have to really be careful with what i spend and where. I myself think i could spend some money for the case now and be careful with my budget but people seem to disagree with me. Thanks for the help!

Hi guys. so i was cleaning dust from my PC, using compressed air and i saw that some part of the dust just did not go away, despite continuous air spray on them I would like to ask what would be the safest option to clean such dust spots ? can i use a soft tissue paper ? or alcohol swabs that are available from the pharmacy ? I am attaching some pics of my setup, so that you guys have a better look of my PC and suggest anything that would help me in cleaning the hard to reach spots. These are pictures of spots like PSU slot, which i have cleaned, ram slots, whose dust won't go away, dust on capacitors, CPU cooler and ICs. as well as dust on GPU. Let me know if a pic doesn't' make sense and i will explain. P.S : Should i remove my hard disk before cleaning? I have not cleaned the side of the PC where the HDD is as i am worried that the dust might damage the data in the HDD ? i know it sounds ridiculous, but please let me know if this is indeed a risk or not ?

Hello! I was just wondering is it ok to put my laptop on the carpet? Can it suck dust through the ventilation this way(I know desktop PCs have intakes but I don't know about laptops)? Or is that not a problem?

Hey everyone I just got a new lappy for school. So far the system has been amazing. Really like the new 8750h this thing is insane! This is the first time I've owned a gaming laptop and one of the things I noticed is that it tends to run the fans at around 40%-50% most of the time. This keeps the CPU and PCH at 45-50 degrees. In demanding games the CPU sits at around 80 degrees with 80% fan speed, which is pretty decent. But I'd like to have lower fan speeds for everyday use. I've tried different fan profiles to keep the fans from ramping up until the CPU hits 60 degrees. The problem this this is that the keyboard gets pretty warm because the fans are idle. I hate having a warm keyboard and I'm worried the heat will shorten the lifespan of the system. With the lower fan speeds, the PCH and CPU are sitting at 55 degrees at idle, which is a bit high. This might be because its summer right now. Room temp is at around 26 degrees. So my question is, will I get a lot of dust if the fans are at 50% during everyday use? Is it better to have 60 degree idle temps and lower fan speeds or would I be better off keeping the fans at the default profile to keep the temps down? BTW this is an Alienware 15 R4 if that makes a difference.
