I've been an android modder since 2013, started with a Samsung S4 Mini, and every android phone I had since was rooted / modded in some form. Last year I modded a Motorola Moto Z2 Play, with all the problems that now root and other mods causes, safetynet issues, netflix doesn't work, games like pokemon go doesn't work neither. Now I am with a Xiaomi Mi 9 everything left on stock, being my first phone without a mod, making me out of the picture of the Android Modding world. What's your opinion about Android Modding today in general? Do you still mod your device in 2019 with all the problems that causes? That was only a problem of mine or do you encountered similar problems?

Hi, my name is Noah and I'm a very inexperienced mobile modder trying to install a custom ROM to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950U) and I'm stuck at one part of the process. I've read that you can flash a custom ROM using TWRP, so I'm trying to get TWRP installed to my device but I'm having a very stressful issue. I'm around the point where you use Windows command prompt to run adb and fastboot to flash TWRP to the device, but I'm stuck halfway through the process. My device is powered on and connected. I have enabled USB debugging. After running the command "adb devices" my device is listed. I then run "adb reboot bootloader", and that works just fine. My phone successfully boots to download mode. Here's where I'm stuck. I run "fastboot devices" to make sure my device is still connected properly, and nothing shows up. I try running the fastboot flash recovery command anyways and it unsurprisingly does nothing. I researched far and wide across the internet for a solution and so far the consensus is that I'm missing a USB driver that allows fastboot to connect to my device properly, and installing drivers is no big deal to me, but I'm lost as to what to install them to? My device doesn't show up as a "mobile phone" or under the "other devices" dropdown of my Windows device manager, so I don't know where to install the USB driver (which I received from Google's Android developers page.) All I see is some nonsense that doesn't seem to help. If there are any experienced Android modders willing to provide any help or advice, that would be greatly appreciated! I'm really stuck Thanks, Noah

So after finding out that you can change a network locked phone to the carrier of your choice, I've made the decision to buy a T-Mobile LG G5 because it has an unlocked bootloader which will allow me to install a custom recovery and such for rooting. The Verizon version of the G5 simply doesn't allow such things. Bootloader issues and such. My concern is will flashing a custom recovery once the T-Mobile G5 is network unlocked revert those settings? Will it stay unlocked for me to use my Verizon SIM or once flashed will it only accept a T-Mobile SIM?

Hi, I have a problem with installing LineageOS on Huawei Y560-L01. I'm stuck in the bootloader unlocking stage. When I enter the command to unlock the bootloader, the error "OEM unlock is not allowed" pops up even though it is enabled in the programming options. I have read that this is done by the system version named B046. I am now trying to downgrade the android to B040 via update from external sdcard, but I get the error "Can not install this package. Error (Status 7)). What should I do now? neither can I try to android or upload twrp. Im giving links to what I'm using: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-twrp-huawei-y5-t3279477 Android file: (if you click it will download rom, name of it is HUAWEI_Y560-L01_Firmware_V100R001C577B040_Europe) http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=56623&version=179931&siteCode=at

Hi, I am considering buying the latest Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet (7th gen, 2017). Unfortunately, this Amazon tablet comes with a stupid OS from Amazon. I figured that I would flash a custom ROM on the device. But I haven't found any custom ROMs for this specific device. Has anybody flashed a custom ROM on this tablet? Has it been done?

So I recently installed a custom ROM on my Zuk Z2 and looking back it felt like it was a huge pain in the rear. Here are some of the steps I had to go through: - I had to create an account with Lenovo. - I had to request a zip file required to unlock the bootloader. - I had to install Minimal ADB and Fastboot - My phone wasn't recognized by Minimal ADB and Fastboot so I had to mess around with drivers and security settings just so that my phone would be authorized in Minimal ADB and Fastboot. - Then I easily unlocked the bootloader - Then I had to enter a few command lines to flash TWRP on my phone - Then I had to find a decent custom ROM and with the compatible Gapps (Google Apps), since the ROMs never come with Google Play Store installed. That was a super annoying ordeal in itself because I had to guess between different Gapp versions looking at ARM Vs. ARM 64 and different versions of Android. Nobody seems to explain this in any tutorial. They just glance over it and say "just flash the Gapps". Oh yeah, and you have to flash the ROM and the Gapps simultaneously. Because if you don't, the Gapps won't work! - Then Netflix doesn't show up anywhere in the Playstore so you have to find the .APK file for Netflix somewhere and install it using an .APK installer app. Surely, it can't be harder than this! I am speculating that it's easier with other phones because you can just use Kingroot to root your phone and then install TWRP from the Playstore? Is that correct? I didn't have that option with my Zuk Z2 because Kingroot just didn't work for whatever reason. So I had to use this bootloader unlock method. It just makes me wonder about these Chinese phones from Gearbest like the Zuk Z2. How easy are they to root if they don't show up anywhere in these one-click root programs like Kingroot? I wonder if I should just stick to brand phones from the likes of Samsung from now on.

Hi, so the question is in the title. I cannot decide wheter I should install a custom rom (Lineage OS or Paranoid android) on my Xperia Z5 premium. I want to have additional customization and more system options. Why not? I worry about the phone getting laggy after few months with the rom (like my galaxy S3 did), I have no issues with Sony's stock rom so far. Is it worth flashing for more features?

My phone is Celkon AR4.0 rahmanishq (not popular) . It has gotten slow now (5 years old) so I want to overclock it but there are no custom roms available on the net for this phone so I wish to make it myself. Can someone guide me (I am a newbie to programming)?

I am looking for a list to compare some custom ROMs for the galaxy S II. Any suggestion for a list. I know about Cyanogenmod and some others but I am looking for a facts comparison. A specific question: Is XIAOMI's custom ROM available for other phones? (In addition: Never had anything to do with Android, flashing, custom-ROMs myself - only heard from friends. Anything to really be careful with?) Also it is for my mom and she is used to iOS. Don't ask about the whole why thing, please. It just is what it is.

hello, I know that the following problem isn't related to Computers at all... I have a LG Optimus 4x HD (p880) and I've rooted it last year, by following this tutorial: Since then it became slower and slower, despite I was uninstalling apps. Than, when I had uninstalled nearly all not preinstalled apps, I had enough. So I decided to do a factory reset. One or two days after I did the factory reset I realised that the phone was as slow as before if not slower. The only solution, I thought, was installing a custom ROM after a disk-wipe. I found a tutorial on the web, that told me that I need a custom recovery in order to install the custom ROM. And here all the problems began: I first tried to install the clockworkmod-recovery (following this tutorial: http://trueandroid.com/how-to-install-custom-recovery-in-most-android-devices/). when I rebooted it and entered the recovery (Power+VolumeDown), following message popped up: [LGE_SECURITY] ERROR: boot image signature [LGE_SECURITY] 5 seconds after Power is turned off for Battery saving Then I tried to install the TWRP-recovery, same scenario. By the way this message shows also up if I try to get in the menu(Power+VolumeUp). Today a colleague tried to fix this, but the result was a phone that is stuck at the boot animation: I turned the phone on about 30 min ago and it's still booting. I can't get into the recovery due to the before mentioned problem. I know that it's my fault. I would be very glad if someone could help me or give me some advice

So after breaking my third iPhone, I am stuck with a Motorola Droid 4 and it is slow as sh*t. And after finding out about roms and looking into it, I am came to ask- Is it worth the time to install CyanogenMod on my Droid 4, and if so, will it giving more any performance gain (or loss). (This by that way is the guide I will follow if I do install it) http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_maserati

I am ready to install CM11 snapshot on my half dead Sony Xperia Z2. I want to be able to restore the stock ROM, I did a backup with the native Sony PC Companion, but the 4gb backup size seems too small. What must I do before I install CM on my Z2. The warranty is already void, the touchscreen is half dead, and the stock ROM is so unstable, so I would assume that even the Lolipop snapshot would be more stable.

I have an inquiry about custom ROMs that goes as such: If I were to install a ROM, would it be feasible to reinstall the ROM that the OEM installed completely as if I never uninstalled it. This is not for warranty, as I already voided that by fixing my previously water damaged Xperia Z2 manually. I want to install and try out a CM12 nightly but I also want to potentially go back to the Sony ROM in future when they finally go to lollipop or if I find CM12 unsuitable for daily usage. I did not do anything yet, but if going back is possible, I will probably install the ROM after spending a good hour or two looking up and reading/watching tutorials on how to do it. (This is a repost of a comment that I made on the pinned official custom ROM discussion thread.)

I found everything needed for the rooting process + instructions, but it says I should wipe everything and install the .zip ROM and Gapps from the custom recovery menu, but I can't access it, because the operation requires rooted phone so in this case first my phone has to be rooted and then I install the Custom recovery image. But I can't install the ROM without custom recovery and I can't have install the custom recovery without root. The heck! Can someone explain me in a more different and easier way so it is understandable!

Hello everyone! I have a Samsung S3 Mini for a year and a half now, it became really laggy so my friend told me to put custom ROM on it, it might help, so i did. Everything works perfect exept one thing. The problem doesnt appear if listen to music, but if i start sending SMS or start using more demanding apps like Facebook, Snapchat, etc., it appears. The problem is when i fully charge it to 100% then use it to like 70% or so it shuts down and reboots and it says that i have 1% battery and it will keep doing that. If i pull the battery out and back in and turn it on, the battery will come back to like 60%. If i start music at that time again, nothing will happen as soon as i start sending SMS and Facebook and that stuff, that will repeat. I need to fix that its becoming really annoying, cant even send messages normally... Thanks for help!

I tire of the xperia ui on my Xperia z2. I wish to install cyanogenmod on the device but fear for the state of warranty and repair. If I am to change the operating system, will I still be able to for example send it for repair if it drowns within the guidelines of the ip58 certifications. I purchased it unlocked from NCIX.com a few months ago.

Hey all, I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 7275R LTE and touch wiz is killing me. It's really lagging me and I wish to install a custom ROM, preferably Cyanogenmod . But there isn't any released yet. I would like to port it myself since there doesn't seem to be any progress with the development if any. I read somewhere that I need the sock ROM sources to make life easier, so I did. But I have no idea what to do next. I heard that a linux OS is needed to build the ROM. Do I need to install one? Can't I just run one in VitualBox? Also, how do you get files from the host to the VM? After building, is there some sort of emulator for me to test it before deploying to my Ace 3? I really do not want to brick it. My Ace 3 is not rooted yet. I can code Java but other than that, I'm quite lost in the building Android thingy. I'm also quite lost when bombarded with words like Repo, Forking, Committing. I read that with the source code, I've gotta head to the changes and see what the developer changed or something and I have to download the CM sources or something which is like 16GB? I need a lil advice. Thanks in advance, much love, Relations.

Which one do you think is the best custom rom for an LG optimus 2x? Currently the phone is running android 2.3 or 2.4 cause LG cant fcking move their ass and push an update for it so, since the UI is really laggy and all that nice stuff, i was thinking about putting a custom one to fix all the issues. I know i should probably post this on XDA dev. but i cant be arsed to make another account.

I will just cut to the chase. I am not responsible if your phone crashes, explodes or starts talking like James Bond after following this guide. Two things: 1) I cannot post a guide specific to every device out there. The methods outlined below will work for most Nexus device or HTC One series devices. 2) If you do however know specific methods on other devices post them below and I will add them here. Part 1: Nexus Devices Only Prep work To do anything you must. 1) Install Google USB drivers for Nexus devices. Get them here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#download 2) Download adb and fastboot utility. Here: ADB.zip 3) Use this guide to set them up properly. http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/ 4) Download a copy of official Nexus factory images from here. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images Step 1: Backup your data. I don't care how. Do it if you wish to do so. Step 2: Plug in your phone using USB cable. Preferably on the back of your desktop. Step 3: Enable USB debugging in developer options. I am assuming you know how to do this. Step 4: Download Clockwork mod for your device from here. http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager Step 5: Launch Command Prompt Step 6: Type: adb reboot bootloader Step 7: Type: fastboot oem unlock Select "accept" on your phone. This will VOID your warranty and erase everything off your device. Step 8: Reboot enable USB debugging again. Go to command prompt and type adb reboot bootloader Step 9: Type: fastboot flash recovery "name of recovery.img" Substitute "name of recovery" by the name of the image. After completion type: fastboot reboot Step 10: If you want root only! Skip to the end of step 12 for installing ROM's. Download SuperSU.zip from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/212 Step 11: With your phone plugged in type into command prompt: adb reboot recovery Step 12: Select "install zip" Select "install zip from sideload" Type: adb sideload "name of file.zip" Substitute "name of recovery" by the name of the image. Let the process complete. Reboot your phone. Done Your Phone is Now Rooted. For installing a custom ROM. In this case I will use Cyanogenmod. Download the latest cm for your Nexus device. Here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Devices Follow everything until step 11 Then, Wipe cache. and then go to, advanced>Wipe Dalvik Cache>Yes Select "install zip" Select "install zip from sideload" Type: adb sideload "name of file.zip" Let the process complete. After completion, wipe cache and dalvik cache again. Reboot and enjoy. To install Google apps aka Play Store Download the right zip from the table given on this page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps Reboot phone to recovery. Sideload the zip as given above. Wipe cache and dalvik cache. Reboot and Done! To return to factory settings: Grab the factory image. Extract it into a folder. CD to that folder on command prompt and with your phone plugged in type: adb reboot bootloader fastboot flash-all.bat On completion type: fastboot oem lock to restore your warranty. HTC is bit complicated due to S-Off and other stuff. Guide will be added soon! Alternatively, To install CM use the Cyanogenmod Installer, www.get.cm But remember device compatibility is limited. Thanks to @Puppet
