Hi, my name is Timothy, and I’ve been noticing some inconsistencies whenever I try to play Grand Theft Auto 5. I was hoping you guys could help me out as I’ve tried everything I could think of with almost no effect. I experience lag when running GTA 5 at max settings (except ULTRA grass for obvious reasons), yet I still lag. I’ve read a bunch of threads about things like this, however the people that tried helping the OP claimed to have a 1050ti and a core i5 of some sort and run it just fine. Let me cut to the chase... I have really high end hardware over locked as far as it will go, yet I can’t manage a stable 60fps. My specs: Ryzen 3900x (set to six cores and OC’d to ~4.6 ghz on all cores) ML360R RGB water cooler (Runs at a semi-stable 60C to 80C) RTX 2080 (three fans + MSI automatic OC) 64G DDR4-3000 RAM (Yes, the Xtreme Memory Profile is on) Aorus X570 Elite A 1T Samsung SSD (I will provide the specs if need be. As of right now I forget) A 750W Bronze rated power supply (I will provide specs if need be. As of right now I forget.) My friend has an RTX 2060 and a core i-7 7700k and his game looks flawless. Any ideas?

Ok so I built a computer last year, 400 bucks pretty cheap to fit my needs and I am using the AMD am3+ socket type (yeah yeah intel master race I just prefer AMD's performance and price personally) so when I went shopping to start I found a cheap gigabyte motherboard that supported my needs and a pcie 2.0x16 video card which happened to be a 2gb card from MSI which i THOUGHT would suit my gaming needs for a little while anyways... since im typing this you can cleary tell it didnt. So I started shopping for 4gb graphics cards preferably with Nvidia hardware around the 200-300 dollar range (im working off a very tight budget) for 2.0x16... I find litterally nothing, I find no cards I would trust inside my system with a 2.0x16 socket type let alone anything under 3.0 minimum so I change tactics and search for 3.0 socket motherboards and find a few but that was almost four months ago, coming back to my issue all my previous boards are just flat gone (links lead to nothing) and I can barely find mention of the 3.0x16 socket type on a motherboard for my cpu (which I do NOT have the money to replace [its an 8 core anyways and barely a year old so i shouldnt need to regardless]) and so I turn to you all's infinite wisdom. LTT is the group that inspired my first custom built system and now I ask for help, I need an AMD am3+ socket typed motherboard with pcie 3.0 - 3.0x16 and an nvidia card with 4gb of graphics (for 2.0x16 or 3.0x16, its really just what you find) for roughly three hundred dollars or less. And to round it off no Im not being stingy three hundred is litterally my entire budget for this upgrade, I have money going into better peripherals that I simply cant ignore any longer and if I dont upgrade to at least 4gb soon (2.0 or 3.0 I dont care at this point) im not going to get another chance until four years from now when I'll have once more saved up enough. Thats about it. sorry I was so long winded

So my first SSD was delivered today and I took it out of the box and was immediately confused about how light it was! I was thinking it would be at least as heavy as my wallet or iPhone 6s Plus but it feels like it is just an aluminum shell! Is that how they are supposed to be? Probably a dumb question but whatever...

Hey, anyone willing to help, would be greatly appreciated. I seem to be either overthinking or misunderstanding the results in a recent test done by Luke in 'The Workshop' series. I spent a good 2 hours looking in-depth into Hyperthreading, which was very interesting. But in the process, I seemed to have fried my brain. By that I mean I don't understand the results on the 7-Zip Benchmark... Why are the two VM's running simultaneously, getting way over half the score of one? (30% at least) I don't understand the scaling. Are the two VM's running at the same time forcing the CPU to utilize more resources and therefore yielding a better result? (in-ratio) For instance @ 4:29, that could represent the default 7-Zip benchmark running on one VM. And @ 4:32 could represent both VM's running simultaneously. This is probably blindingly obvious to someone, if so don't be afraid to point out! Cheers

I've been reading some of the posts made on the Linus Tech Facebook page and apparently there's something going on between LMG and Amazon. The posts on Facebook by Linus Tech don't give any context as to what actually happened... Does anyone actually know what happened or is it somewhat confidential?

Hello, I am new to PC building/upgrading. I've watched a ton of videos on how to build PCs, install new parts in PCs, etc. I recently got into PC gaming, but realized that my prebuilt "Office" PC was not up to the task. So, since I do not have the money to build a new system, I made the decision to upgrade. Of course, I started thinking of compatibility issues and stuff, but I figured out that I can install a 750 ti, a new power supply, and a new hard drive for extra space. But my RAM is only 4gbs so I figured if I really want to get into PC gaming I am going to need 8gbs (or more). Apparently, my CPU (Intel Pentium G640 2 Cores 2 Threads 2.80 GHz) only supports DDR3 1066 Memory? I have no idea what this means, which is why I am writing this story on here. It says it on Intel's website, link: http://ark.intel.com/products/53486/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G640-3M-Cache-2_80-GHz. Does this mean I can only install DDR3 1066 RAM? I don't want to blow $40 on RAM and find out I can't use it. Please enlighten me on this topic.

Hey! I'm looking into getting a surround sound system (finally) but its the first time I've done so. I've quickly become accustomed to the same questions that seemed to be asked, but never full answers. I was wondering if people could help. First off, LPCM vs Bitstream. I've read that PCM is better for individual tracks, but Bitstream is recommended for things like the PS4. So which is better? This brings me to my next question. I've only got a cheap budget as of now, so I'm looking at a relatively cheap system thats around $300, had good reviews, however, doesn't have HDMI in, so I have to turn to optical, and apparently optical only supports 2 channels of LPCM. (Its a 5.1 system). Is it possible to throw out the receiver in a system and buy a new one down the road, keeping the speakers, which, in theory, should allow to me then turn to HDMI later on? The reason for this post, I don't want to end up buying a system, that I soon realise wont meet my needs. I'll be using it for mostly movies, however some PS4 gaming will come into play (see what I did there?). The system I'm looking at is the BDV E2100 from Sony. I left this until last because, unless someone can recommend a system thats within my budget, I'd prefer people to not tell me that its not good enough. I've read reviews Any advice which you feel would be valuable to a newbie buyer would be appreciated! Thanks for all your help, means a lot! Chris

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to look at my topic. I am confused on what motherboard to buy for my skylake build. (Budget is under $170) Parts so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FgTCHx I'm using this computer for Video editing, Motion graphics, coding, gaming, etc. Possible MB to choose: Asus z170-a, Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5, or MSI (Don't really have one for MSI), Or anything you would recommed. Asus: Pros: Love the UEFI bios, Pretty much everything i need, I like Asus products, $140 Cons: I have been seeing alot of bad reviews on this motherboard, Appears cheap, that I/O shield is awful. Gigabyte: Pros: Alot of hardware features and future ports, Pcie shields for heavy graphics cards, two m.2 slots, $160, on board power button with ambient led and fast boot, over all amazing hardware. Nice I/O shield. Good amount of positive reviews. Cons: BIOS LOOKS AWFUL (Personal preference), but it probably still functions fine. XMP profiles for gigabyte MB supposedly having some problems (So i won't be running my ram at 3200 if the XMP profile doesn't work right). 3 fan headers. Msi: Not completly interested in MSI, but if you recommend me an MSI board that you think I'll like, then ill have a look. I do know i like my SATA ports in a 90 Degree angle lol. I can't really trust reviews online anymore so i need some help and suggestions. Thanks for your time.

Hi all, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to OCs, so I apologize for my ignorance in advance.Long story short, I've just finished building a computer for a friend, and, upon going into the BIOS to check out settings and such, I noticed some overclocking features were unlocked! The CPU is a Core 2 Duo E7500, mobo is a Gigabyte ga-g41mt-s2pt. I didn't end up touching any of those settings yet but I recall at one point I was able to get the CPU up to well over 4 GHz. My questions are, which settings should I be adjusting for a mild overclock, what consequences are there if I take it too far, and how can I confirm that the CPU is running at the new overclocked speed? It's not intended for anything super CPU intensive but it's an older Core 2 Duo and a little extra speed never hurt anyone

Hey guys, This is a bit of a long shot, but I'm curious so I'm asking either way. I'm a low level tech support employee for an electronics retailer, and I'm running into some confusing information. A customer who bought an Acer Predator G3-605 I8902 NL approached us and told us about the PC's GPU not corresponding with what's in the PC's formal specifications. The ones on the sticker, I mean. This PC is supposed to ship with an AMD R9 255 2GB, an OEM model. I opened up the machine and the card does indeed identify as an R9 255. It's an OEM card, and if I've done my homework correctly, this is a variant that can't really be bought seperately, it's just for OEM manufactuers. The problem that made the customer approach us in the first place, is that the card isn't recognised properly in Windows 10. It's labeled as an "AMD Radeon R7 Series / HD 9000 Series", everywhere, in Device Manager, GPU-Z, Speccy, etc. The rest of its tech specs, clock speeds, memory bus, etc, DOES correspond with an R9 255. It just labels it incorrectly. Updated the drivers to the most recent without any issue. No change. Performance-wise it's what you would expect from this card, which is to say, pretty mediocre. Reminds me on Linus' excellent rant on low-end cards... But I digress. What I'm really asking is, is this just a stupid software labeling error, that both I and the customer should totally ignore, or has there indeed been some kind of mix-up at Acer? Curious to know. Thanks in advance, guys!
